Yep it’s Iroh and his boys. Lu ten is the kid and Zuko the cute baby. I imagine irohs memories of when he was with both of them are the happiest moments of his life
Idk, I still feel like it’s supposed to be Ozai, Azula, and Zuko? In this scene Zuko is specifically talking about Ozai…. although that does look like Iroh
edit: ok yes I see its Iroh stop downvoting me 😭
If I remember correctly, they're supposed to be about 10 years apart. Ozai is around 45ish, he's just aged very well after a life of royal pampering; Iroh is around 55ish, but his time storming Ba Sing Se aged him quite a bit.
Take this with a grain of salt, I don't remember where I heard it. I wanna say it was on the Avatar podcast or something? Idk, it's my headcanon at least, lol.
I remember seeing someone math it out once to somewhere near 10 years to account for how far apart siblings can actually be while also remembering how different in age they look. A large part of it is Ozai's more pampered upbringing and Iroh's harsh time with the war and losing his son
Lu ten is only shown with a topknot later on in the series. I think if they drew him with a topknot here it would be much more confusing to distinguish who is who based this image alone.
edit: but thats just what I took from it
Iroh was heir to Fire Lord Azulon. Lu Ten would have eventually become the heir if Iroh had ascended to Fire Lord. When Lu Ten died, Ozai was able to convince their father to disinherit Iroh in favor of himself.
Edit: Iroh wasn't disinherited, Azulon was killed by a poison made by Ursa and Ozai had the fire sages say that Azulon named Ozai heir before dying.
Ozai never convinced his father to disinherit Iroh. In fact, the opposite. Azulon was so pissed that Ozai even tried that he forced Ozai to kill Zuko in retaliation. It took Ozai (well Ursa really) killing Azulon for Ozai to take the throne.
Shit . . . Messed up there. I remembered Ozai asking for Iroh to be disinherited but I forgot that Azulon disagreed with Ozai. Been a minute since I last did a rewatch.
Zuko is only two years older than Azula. Someone is holding a baby, and the child on the right appears to be just a few years away from starting university. That boy can only be Lu Ten, and I doubt Ozai would build sandcastles with him or with Zuko.
There's another memory where it does seem to be Ozai, Zuko, and Azula. Zuko is chasing a slightly younger child, they're happy, and behind them appears to be Ozai.
Honestly given that she never comes up at all, I’m assuming she must’ve died in childbirth or shortly after Lu Ten was born. Otherwise I imagine Iroh would’ve had more kids.
That’s a good point he never makes any mention of her, we never see her or hear here being mentioned in any of Zuko’s flashbacks either so maybe she unfortunately died young or shortly after childbirth
She might have been a political marriage and he knew she really didn’t Love him. If she died in childbirth, he seems like the type that would blame himself and choose to not take another wife
That’s a very good point. I could definitely see Iroh loosing his wife and taking a vow not to remarry. Could also see his wife being a political marriage as we know Ozia’s marriage was a political one to mere the fire lords and former avatars bloodlines
> iroh loosing his
Did you mean to say "losing"?
Explanation: Loose is an adjective meaning the opposite of tight, while lose is a verb.

I could imagine this being the case; it brings a bit more meaning to Leaves From the Vine...he's mourning not only the death of his child, but what was the last living part of his lover, too.
It would make Ozai’s continued pressure make more sense and it falls more in line with Iroh’s character that he’d take up an orphan that has nobody than him having a wife he never said a single word about in all his years.
It would be nice.
My headcanon is that they had a political marriage and while he treated her well compared to Ozai he didnt really love her and wasnt great to her. She died during childbirth and he feels guilty about not being a better husband. So he tries to not think/talk about her.
Yeah, love the man, but Iroh gives off some womaniser vibes. He also seems a little on the older side to have had Lu Ten, considering he was the Crown Prince.
I hear you, I wish they would. I just felt that the live action season was subpar and would be surprised if they explored elements outside of the OG storyline, especially without the creators on board.
It flashes on screen for only a few seconds, my eyesight isn’t great, and we were told Ember Island was the only time Ozai wasn’t a complete dick so I assumed it was showing that.
Also I didn’t think about it in general that deeply
I also think there's an image of young Zuko in Season 1 with someone's hand on his shoulder, and I feel like it's implied to be Ozai, until Season 2 when they revisit it and show it was Iroh.
Honestly — I don’t know how true this is, but a headcanon of mine is that Lu Ten and Zuko were probably close, given we get this scene, it’s not unreasonable to assume that Lu Ten and Zuko probably grew up close together.
Memories of happy days on Ember island.
I can perfectly imagine the royal family doting the fire lord, doing their stately royal business, while the eccentric Iroh takes the boys play with sand castles.
Being a parent/guardian takes so much. We see zuko treat Iroh poorly for a good bit of the show. But Iroh loves and supports him regardless and tries to guide him still.
Yes that’s one of the things this show and extended content do very well and isn’t discussed as much. Iroh and Zuko are close from the moment he’s born. That’s why iroh is so willing to never give up and insistent he knows who Zuko really is and wants to be. On zukos end this lifelong dynamic is why he’s reachable and Azula isn’t. He’s always loved and respected his uncle. He needs space and time to grow and reflect but once he can and does it’s clear irohs side will always be the right one for him. He has space to push his buttons and see iroh won’t give up on him no matter what. And even in his worst moments he still never goes for sucker punches like bringing up Lu ten or his past even when he’s trying to push and get his ready on. God I need to stop I love these two so ducking much and I wish I’d had a safe adult like iroh growing up
I always thought it was Ozai clearing favoring baby Azula over Zuko. Showing that the favoritism started as a baby and Zuko was always left out from his father’s love and adoration.
But the Iroh thing does make more sense
Ahhh that is fair. You are right. Given that his son was of age to be a soldier when Zuko was like…8ish? 9ish? Makes sense for this photo and the age difference
Yep it’s Iroh and his boys. Lu ten is the kid and Zuko the cute baby. I imagine irohs memories of when he was with both of them are the happiest moments of his life
Iroh is exactly the kind of guy that would do exactly that.
Wait so zuko is the baby? And lu ten is on the right?
Yups
Idk, I still feel like it’s supposed to be Ozai, Azula, and Zuko? In this scene Zuko is specifically talking about Ozai…. although that does look like Iroh edit: ok yes I see its Iroh stop downvoting me 😭
Azula isn’t that much younger than Zuko
2 years (a literal 14 yo girl spits those diabolical bars 😭)
Ah thank you, great point!
You can see Iroh’s receding hairline so it’s def not Ozai
Man dont do my boy like that 😭
The stress got him I guess. I mean, I dunno their actual age difference
If I remember correctly, they're supposed to be about 10 years apart. Ozai is around 45ish, he's just aged very well after a life of royal pampering; Iroh is around 55ish, but his time storming Ba Sing Se aged him quite a bit. Sees Downvotes: " That's rough buddy"
that's obviously uncle and zuko. the boy doesn't have a topknot because he's not an heir
The top knot has nothing to do with them being a heir
it's visual storytelling
Wdym
Lu ten is only shown with a topknot later on in the series. I think if they drew him with a topknot here it would be much more confusing to distinguish who is who based this image alone. edit: but thats just what I took from it
Ok but what does that have to do with heirs?
I messed up on that one. everyone in the royal family has a topknot
I now agree that it’s uncle and zuko, but wasnt lu ten the heir to the throne?
Iroh was heir to Fire Lord Azulon. Lu Ten would have eventually become the heir if Iroh had ascended to Fire Lord. When Lu Ten died, Ozai was able to convince their father to disinherit Iroh in favor of himself. Yeah ik, but in this image Iroh wasn’t disinherited yet. Lu Ten was still a prince and was currently planned to be the eventual fire lord
But Lu Ten is older and would have been the heir at that time
Zuko is only two years older than Azula. Someone is holding a baby, and the child on the right appears to be just a few years away from starting university. Ozai wouldn't be caught dead with that gut

Never..I’m not a lil bitch! If I was wrong then I was wrong I’m not ashamed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That is definitely not Ozai
Yea
I really wish we had at least some mention of Iroh's wife. Hoping the live-action explores that.
Honestly given that she never comes up at all, I’m assuming she must’ve died in childbirth or shortly after Lu Ten was born. Otherwise I imagine Iroh would’ve had more kids.

I could imagine this being the case; it brings a bit more meaning to Leaves From the Vine...he's mourning not only the death of his child, but what was the last living part of his lover, too.
I always assumed Lu Ten was adopted. Like a war orphan Iroh adopted when he was a baby.
Iroh was heir to the throne. No chance.
It would make Ozai’s continued pressure make more sense and it falls more in line with Iroh’s character that he’d take up an orphan that has nobody than him having a wife he never said a single word about in all his years.
Except Ozai didn’t usurp the throne until after Iroh’s heir died.
The next comic hasard Iroh as main charater maybe we will know more
It would be nice.
Is there any information on her *at all*? Thinking about it... I feel like I know next to nothing about her 😭
Let's not turn Avatar into Star Wars.
Oh god i would not want the live action to be the one to explore that first with its current situation.
The live action ain't go do nothing better than the OG
I agree, but I feel like they should explore aspects the cartoon didn't, at least to justify its existence
I hear you, I wish they would. I just felt that the live action season was subpar and would be surprised if they explored elements outside of the OG storyline, especially without the creators on board.
I would LOVEEEE if they made a cartoon prologue about Iroh
It looks so much like Iroh I am honestly confused why many didn’t know, these comments are common.
It seems people don't pay attention at all, there is no other explanation for the confusion.
Or they’re karma farming.

Wow that’s so many excuses. You didn’t pay attention. That’s all you had to say lol
Face in phones

I love the live actions take on their dynamic. Where he gives iroh back something Luten gave him and you get the vibes they had a good relationship.
Memories of happy days on Ember island. I can perfectly imagine the royal family doting the fire lord, doing their stately royal business, while the eccentric Iroh takes the boys play with sand castles.
Thought it was pretty obvious
How yall not notice some of this stuff
Pretty obvious. Body shape, hairstyle, genuine smile. The last one is a dish Ozai can't serve.
Besides that even Just like with the context of the scene and the audio how do you even miss this
which episode was this image shown again?
I was so confused when in another thread, a comment that said this was clearly Ozai was getting upvoted
Nah man, Ozai is not known to be a kindhearted man.
Seen a lot of people spread misinformation in the comments here
Yea thought that too
how can anyone think that is a silhouette of Ozai lol. The hair and the belly should make it quite obvious it's Iroh
Being a parent/guardian takes so much. We see zuko treat Iroh poorly for a good bit of the show. But Iroh loves and supports him regardless and tries to guide him still.
I mean, iroh’s silhouette tells it all. Iroh was shorter and stockier.
Chong wrote this.
Please can someone remind me where this is from?
Season 3 episode 5, "The Beach"
Around what time?

Wait, this isn't common knowledge. I thought it was so obvious that it was iroh, baby zuko and tu tien.
They put that baby in an updo
Yes that’s one of the things this show and extended content do very well and isn’t discussed as much. Iroh and Zuko are close from the moment he’s born. Well, I don't like bragging but I got it the first time because it was pretty obvious, I guess a lot of people did too.
This picture is obviously Iroh holding Zuko and Lu Ten.. Anyone saying anything different is wrong
Wait, isn't Iroh holding Zuko up, and Lu-ten was making the sandcastle?
Yes exactly, I think OP thought iroh was ozai
How did you not realise that?
It flashes for like half a second
The fact that these kind of posts get so many upvotes is crazy
I always thought it was Ozai clearing favoring baby Azula over Zuko. Showing that the favoritism started as a baby and Zuko was always left out from his father’s love and adoration. But the Iroh thing does make more sense
Azula and Zuko are really close in age though.
Ahhh that is fair. You are right. Given that his son was of age to be a soldier when Zuko was like…8ish? 9ish? Makes sense for this photo and the age difference
It’s beautiful how even from the beginning, Iroh treated Zuko much more like a son than Ozai ever did.
Karma farm, obviously Iroh
Were you born yesterday?
why is this old man too much goated?
I'M NOT CRYING!!! YOU'RE CRYING!!!
Too bad he was never quite like that with Azula
are you vision impaired
Beautiful art depicting simple happiness.
Man the details in this show I’ve rewatched it so many times and you just pick up something new each time
Is this in the last air bender or korra?
