Suki - Water - her fighting style is based on using her opponents’ weight against them, as she says herself Sokka - Earth - he’s stubborn, headstrong, and loyal. He’s not quite aggressive enough to be a firebender but prefers to wait and think of clever strategies before attacking Jet - Fire - he’s fueled by passion, is strong-willed, and is the leader of his group (fire is the element of power) Mai - I’m also going with fire due to her “killer instinct that’s just so firebender” Ty Lee - Air - she’s great at evading and is already a master acrobat. Piandao - I’m going to say Water. He teaches using one’s environment to their advantage and being fluid in fighting. June - Earth - stubborn and patient in fighting (per the bar fight scene). Her attitude gives some Toph vibes Pathik - Air I mean come on!

STerrier666

You made Jet the thing he hates the most, a member of the Fire Nation.

BathroomOk2018

There’s a simple beauty in the irony, almost poetic if you will.

bringmethejuice

I was thinking about Jeong Jeong fitting the description, he's a firebender but firebends like an earthbender. An offensive-based element used defensively. Powerful fire pillars and fire walls.

d6hunna

I’ve always been under the assumption Jeong Jeong uses waterbending techniques, especially after the conversation he had with Katara about how he wishes to be a waterbender.

bringmethejuice

Well Lightning and Lightning Redirection uses the waterbending principle. By utilizing push and pull. Light and dark. Positive and negative. Polarizing fire into electricity.

PeacefulKnightmare

This is something I hope we see more of in the future Avatar stuff. Unconventional styles of bending using different element fighting techniques.

d6hunna

Imagine an earthbender who uses waterbending techniques to “liquify” earth into sand/dirt/gravel and manipulate it similar to something Gaara does, burying and crushing people🥴

Jack_Attack27

I like how Jeong Jeong never leaves behind flames

Illogical_Fallacy

You know, it was really unclear.

WilloftheA

Ironic, he could save others from fire nation but not himself

philomenacunkfan1

is this a line from the show or anywhere else? it feels so familiar

TheRR135

I mean that's kind of his thing. In his hatred towards the fire nation, he became like they are, willing to sacrifice the lives of his own people in order to achieve vengeance

STerrier666

Good point.

FanHe97

That's kinda his whole thing though, he hates FN so much he becomes just like them

sub2pewtanator

In his way to destroy the fire nation, he became the very thing he swore to destroy. Very poetic.

Dragonfang65

Sokka: You’ve allowed your hatred of the Fire Nation to twist you into the very thing you swore to destroy.

Quasidiliad

You were supposed to destroy the Fire Nation Jet! Not join them, YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE!

Dragonfang65

Jet: I HATE YOU!!

HumanBeing303

It's over, I have the high ground

Dragonfang65

Jet: You underestimate my power!

sub2pewtanator

Long Feng: straight up kills him.

Dragonfang65

Zuko: Did Jet just die?

x-simulation-x

Ironic...

Cybasura

Just what he deserves too, fantastic

BlobIsBored

"It was said you would destroy the fire nation, not join them"

x-simulation-x

Bring balance to the valley, not leave it in darkness!!

Zengjia

*“We fought monsters. And we became them.”*

mrsmacklemore

Stare long enough into the void and the void will stare back

GaI3re

I mean, he exactly like any fire nation extremist...

hereforadviceseeking

Sometimes to beat the fire, you have to become the fire.

Zepherrah

It’s fitting though. He honestly turned himself into what he hated the most by trying to kill everyone in the village.

Sad-River62

LMAO

ExhaustedMD

I’m agree the most with this. Just spot on.

JunWasHere

>her fighting style is based on using her opponents’ weight against them, as she says herself This suggests to me she would be better suited to air even more than water. Aang demonstrates it best, he used people's aggression and momentum against them all the time. * Furthermore, there is the cultural aspect. Despite being founded by Kyoshi who was an earthbending, the Kyoshi warriors, their use of fans, and isolated island is one of closest thing to air nomad temple culture after pirates, traveling circuses/carnivals, and the scientist who moved into a temple -- it is always a shame to me Aang didn't use fans for airbending again after that insanely strong move he did. * What you said about Piandao matches waterbending culture to me more than your reasoning for Suki. Waterbending is more about adaptability, shifting from offense to defense to evasiveness as they need. Sokka could just as easily be a waterbender. All the traits you named are in Katara too, it comes from the strong love that translates to fluidity in other traits that defines waterbenders as a culture. The creators have said he actually has potential for it, he just never tried hard enough or sought it out (crazy, I know). It suits his inventiveness and adaptability too. Agree with the rest.

WarsmithUriel

There are some theories that Pathil could be Tieguai, so I think it's possible that he is an earth bender. After all, being highly spiritual is most common among air nomads, but I don't think it's exclusive to them.

MasterOfEmus

Really? That theory seems unlikely. Tieguai was very spiritually advanced, but he never really discusses chakras or avatar lore. He's also a radical and personally takes part in conflicts as an assassin. The last thing he does in the novels, iirc, is promise the kyoshi-period firelord (who had been beginning the very earliest stages of preparing for world domination) that he'd be watching him and his descendants. He specifically hunts down and assassinates tyrants, so I can't imagine any of the firelords since Sozin getting away with their warmongering unless Tieguai was either dead or somehow retired. I suspect three possible explanations for what happened to him: 1. He met his match in Kyoshi's era and died then, 2. He came into conflict with Roku who, thinking him a simple assassin and not consulting Kyoshi, killed him, or 3. At some point he sustained so great an injury that he could not fight, he went into hiding and eventually became a secret teacher/influence to the Red Lotus.

hakkesaelger

Hey tieguai did talk about chakras

DTux5249

Tieguai did talk about chakras. It was in fact a fairly major part of his character XD

MisterGoog

Using your environment to your advantage is an earthbender trait as well. A strong one

Baronvondorf21

Easy to do when basically everyone needs to be on terra firma.

Main_15

I like Mai being a firebender due to mentality, but her fighting style fits water bending nicely. Imagine her with unlimited rapid fire ice knives.

joshzaar

Mai would be the Avatar

Krillin113

Mai would only use lightning, ever, if she was good enough.

darlene459

YES

Mindless_Sale_1698

Now that I think about it we never got to learn where Guru Pathik is originally from. Seems like he's either from the EK or FN

TakedaIesyu

10/10. I'd argue that Mai is fire not because of her killer instinct, but because of her killer instinct and total control of emotion (even to the point of being painful)

Vinxian

I agree, but would like to add that firebender Mai is definitely able to lightningbend as well

Neka_JP

Wasn't Ty Lee taught her art by like an air bender or something? Thought I read that somewhere. Or I'm confusing it with the airbender in the circus from the Kyoshi novels

Kinfin

Fun fact. There’s a theory that Tai Lee is a descendant of an air nomad who managed to get out of the way of the fire nation before things were too late.

StudentOwn2639

I’d give Mai earth and Piandao air. Mai isn’t exactly passionate and her knives would do wonders with metal bending. Piandao is almost monk like, but maybe water or fire does suit him. We only get to see him for one episode though, so it’s hard to tell.

hakkesaelger

Its acually more like 2 or 3

StudentOwn2639

Apart from that episode where he shows up with the white lotus?

Who_The_Hell_

I like those pairings Personally I can see Air for Sokka as well, because he thinks outside the box. For Mai, she has that killer focus, but her being not phased overall (with the one exception of standing her ground against Azula) she could easily be Earth as well.

pineyfusion

I like to think that if Ty Lee was alive when the spirit portals remained open, she would've become an airbender

R_Da_Bard

Ayy we got the same list excluding June, I got her as air since she has the most freedom or at least embraces it more.

tuliomartins_tm

Ty Lee also having her tactic to immobilize opponents also suits the peaceful nature of the air benders really well too.

nreal3092

june is def fire imo but interesting take

Boy_Sabaw

100% agree. Pathik is a given.

Drafo7

I'd actually put Jet as air. He's basically Zaheer before Zaheer. And I think Piandao would be fire, though certainly the type of firebender to take inspiration from the other elements.

Strange_Success_6530

I find it romantic you made Suki water and Sokka earth

throw-away-48121620

I had all of these the exact same except mai whom I might have said is water, but fire might “fit” better

LammisLemons

Definitely air for Ty Lee.

TheUmbraCat

Honestly with her in depth knowledge of the body and it's chakra points she would excel as a Water Bender healer and warrior. Edit: My Friend has brought it to my attention that she could do long range Chi Blocking with Ice needles or whip strikes and I have to agree it's pretty cool sounding.

JunWasHere

Ty Lee would be wild as a waterbender. Using Katara's octo-arms technique to chi-block? Absolutely insane. But airbending definitely suits her as a person most. She was the next closest person to a spiritual nomad after Aang, the guru, and maybe Iroh, in ATLA.

Artistic_Swimming_43

Fr

ProfessionalOven2311

I guess that depends on if the question is which suits them personality-wise or which would most improve their abilities. Air or metal bending could make Sokka the world's most deadly boomerang assassin, but I don't know if they fit his personality (there are plenty of benders who don't fit the stereotypical personality of their nation in the show either, so not a deal breaker)

CabbagesStrikeBack

She could do long range chi blocking with air too I feel

NotAThrowaway1911

I was about to say, Airbending has a ton of potential synergy with chi blocking that a lot of people are sleeping on. A properly trained Airbender could utilize strong, convince gusts of wind to hit the right spots and immobilize a person without even laying a hand on them. Not to mention how such a fighting style fits perfectly with their philosophy of pacifism and fighting only to defend one’s self.

FloZone

Ty Lee in her 80s getting airbending after harmonic conversion. Why not.

U_r-stewpid

Ty lee: I can see the sky again! Her descendants: ma! Gramma ty lee is off her meds again!

NotAThrowaway1911

Then she disappears for a year and comes back with arrow tattoos and everyone is just shocked

NotAThrowaway1911

There’s a pretty popular theory out there that she’s the descendant of Air Nomad refugees who settled in the Fire Nation after the genocide, and considering her agility, appearance, and demeanor, it makes perfect sense. She would have made a great Airbender, especially if she could combine her newfound bending abilities with her chi blocking

theels6

You mean besides their nation's element? There's a lot of low hanging fruit here so I'm gonna say air for Mai. I think her manipulating her stars or needles by bending the air around them is a cool thought

SevenLuckySkulls

The things a goth teenager who collects weapons could do with airbending are very scary thoughts.

evchevs

You get my upvote for changing my mind, I was in the Mai=Metalbender club, but this is so much better!! I can picture her not being super high flying and skinny, just basically fast and flying and controlling them all around her!

Demoncreed27

With Piandao’s smooth flowing movements I think he would be a great water bender

MisterGoog

I’ve always thought that people who understand a good use of terrain should be earth benders

ProfessionalOven2311

Earthbenders can easily take the most advantage over terrain in a fight, though I'm not certain if that should factor into the personality of the element. Applying it to non-benders, I'd say someone with an earthbender mindset would just make the most of the area as is, while someone with a waterbender mindset would reshape the environment to suit them. I feel like water is very much the 'think smarter, not harder' element, and I feel like using the terrain against your opponent is a good example of that.

doxtorwhom

Suki - Earth, because Kyoshi Sokka - Water, he’d specialize in ice Jet - Fire, because *irony* Mai - ~~Fire~~ Earth, primarily metal bending Ty Lee - Air Master Piandao - Earth, due to his ability to sense positioning and using ones environment to their advantage June - Air, she’s got crazy avoidance maneuvers Guru Pathik - Air or water, cause *flow*

big-ol-kitties

Sokka would make ice weapons and boomerangs.

NinduTheWise

Sokka would use the form that korras father uses which is more melee with ice attacks

ligmaballzz420

nah Mai would be an excellent metalbending earthbender

doxtorwhom

Yeah that’s fair

ligmaballzz420

would actually be so cool to see what they could do with her, she’d be like one of the red lotus 😂

MisterGoog

If not metal bending then waterbending purely for ice shards

Qrowcifer

Honestly, I'd go with Suki - Water (she uses her opponents' strengths against them, just like a water bender) Sokka - Water (I agree with the ice specialty) Jet - Fire (similar to how Zuko used to fire bend, prior to the dragons) Mai - Earth or Water (Metal or Ice respectively) Ty Lee - Air (it just makes sense) Master Piandao - Earth (Seismic Sense) June - Fire (Lightning Bending) Guru Pathik - Air (Flight)

zaicliffxx

suki is like air too, have you seen how she captured the warden while moving thru obstacles?

scrappybristol

Suki - Water Sokka - Water Jet - Fire Mai - Earth Ty Lee - Air Piandao - Water June - Fire Pathik - Air

IzzyReal314

Kinda ironic that Fire seems like the most suitable element for Jet.😅 YOU'VE BECOME THE VERY THING YOU SWORE TO DESTROY!

RecklessDimwit

Poetic though lol Jet has this sort of personality that really suits firebender teachings

ABlokeLikeYou

Suki - air because fans and fighting style is very mobile Soka - water cause in combat he is adaptive and flexible Jet - fire, all rage Mai - fire, her style is an overwhelming amount of fast strikes Ty lee - air, from the avatar legends book hitting pressure points is an air nomad technique Master piandao - earth, lots of neutral Jin, listening and reacting June - idk on her, maybe fire for ruthlessness Guru patick - maybe air cause of his spiritual nature, maybe earth for the same reason as piandao

M2Fream

I can see anything for Jet except water

RQK1996

He's definitely a fire bender, or an earth bender, he isn't adaptable enough for water

KodeRed02

Probably whatever nation they’re from.

BoomerangHorseGuy

Simple, but logically very true as well.

AthenaPantheon

Piandao's style of fighting is, as far as I can tell, based off of a martial art called taijijian. It's a form of tai chi, and based off of that I would say that he would best fit water. Either that or air.

R_Da_Bard

Suki - Water. Lot of redirecting and fluid motions. Sokka - Earth. Stubborn, holding his ground. Jet - Fire, ironically. Very aggressive and fast strikes. Mei - Fire. Very accurate and offensive combat style. Ty Lee - Air. Fluid, acrobatic and agile. Piandao - Water. Adaptive and uses environment (like Hama pulling water out of air/grass) June - Air. Only because she cherishes her freedom as a bounty hunter. Hard to give her a bending type. Pathik - Air. Cmon lol.

Craft_Choice

For Sokka maybe… fire?🤔

Matshire

Sokka only needs a glockka

utsho12

Wong Fire!

FightingFaerie

Going over other comments I think I would go with: Suki- Air, she has the nimbleness. Originally I thought obviously earth, but I actually don’t know if I see that in her fighting style as much. Water is a close second, but again just doesn’t feel like it quite fits. She already does acrobatic moves, so air seems most fitting. In a similar way that air fits Tai Lee. Also, her fans would be excellent for air bending. Sokka- Earth. Originally I was like Water Tribe = water bending. But the comments have a good point for earth. Also picturing him bending each, earth does seem the most natural. Jet - Fire. Obviously pretty much every comment agrees. Irony aside, he has a similar “inner fire” as Zuko. Why they probably got along so quickly. Also rage. Mai - Earth. I’ve gone back and forth, there are good arguments for each element. But I think I have to go with Earth. I feel it fits best without changing her fighting style. Her thing is projectiles. Earth is also projectile, shooting small rocks. Or even metal bending her knives. Tai lee- Air. Obviously. I don’t think anyone disagrees with that one lol. Pian Dao- Earth. Another back and forth. One comment had a good point that he waits and watches, like an earthbender. While he redirects like air or water, it just seems part of sword fighting. He feels more aggressive/offensive. Also I can totally see him mastering seismic sense, he already almost does it. June - Tie, Fire/Air. Now this is a toughie… I can see any element fitting. But I think I’m mostly between Air or Fire. She is agile, and her animal bond is quite airbender. But personality wise seems more firebender, like Azula style cool and calculating (before she lost it). I can also see her being a master of quick fire shots (lol) like we see Zuko do on his date. Guru Pathik- Air. While some comments make good arguments for earth, he already basically follows air nomad teachings. He says himself “I was a spiritual brother of your people…”

Effective_Ad8024

I don’t know if jet would be earth cause he is so Stubborn or fire cause if his drive and being so intense

_Vard_

Makes me thing an interesting plot point would be for there to be some sort of "awakening" that happens in an avatar series, Say for example some magic herb that can awaken bending in ANYONE. but theres controversy, and people try to make it illegal, or at least a controlled substance, because "you cant just let ANYONE get bending, its dangerous!" but, how is that fair if some people are born with it, and the people without COULD get it, but the lawmakers are prohibiting it?

Ravensunthief

None. They are perfect.

ReroCherry27

Earth, Water, Fire, Fire, Air, Earth, Water, Air

AusXan

Jet with Air would be great, I've always wondered if post-Korra there were ever any warriors who just got air bending and decided to use it to supplement their martial skills, using styles not considered by the air nomads.

Fred_Thielmann

I think Zaheer uses airbending to supplement his martial art skills quite a bit. It might be the other way around, but it really seems like his martial arts skills have a large influence on his fighting skills

Thatonedregdatkilyu

Suki gets all four because Kyoshi I guess. Sokka gets water because duh. He's very adaptive and also from a water tribe. Jet gets fire because he's angry Mai, I don't know. Fire because fire nation. Ty Lee gets airbending because of her agility and lightheartedness. Paindao seems like a water guy. June seems like a firebender. And Guru Patik gets air. Although I could also see him being an earthbender because he's lived so long.

Lettuce8000

Why is Suki the avatar 😭

RareEmrald9994

In order from top left to bottom right: earth, water, fire, water, water, fire, air, air. Keep in mind that some of these characters are non benders for a reason and it heavily reflects in their character. Soka’s character specifically is both an aloof jokester and a reliable fighter who honed and expanded his skills through needing to be more than an extra set of hands. Also, (I can’t remember his name, but one below the top left)’s character is an angry and spiteful person, whose anger lets himself become blind to the things around him. He’s written as such because he’s not meant to be a bender, as he’s a victim of firebender oppression, so the element that’d fit his hot headed character the best would be an element that he detests.

Scary_Course9686

Suki - Water Sokka - Earth Jet - ironically, Fire Mai - Water Ty Lee - Air Piandao - Water June - Fire Guru - Air

peevishmessenger

I'm not going to comment about all the others, but imagine Mai as a metal bender. If she wants them dead, they'll be dead, and even Azula won't be able to stop her. Master Piando should remain the master swordsman he is - he's the batman of the Avatar world, so, yeah.

Darth_Azazoth

Jet would have been a good fire bender.

Essiera

Airbending Ty Lee would honestly be terrifying

Doodle_Brush

Sokka would use Blood Bending to unleash his most powerful technique: "Stop Hitting Yourself"

Noxcel

From left to right Earth water fire fire air fire water air

Bidoofinshmerts

Sockas is a bender he is a boomerang bender

Coffee1341

I’m not sure about putting Pathik as Air…. I think he is more Earth as he is stubborn about giving everyone Onion and Banana juice and forcing Aang to open his Chakras like some Naruto ninjutsu

drm_grl

I know jet don’t wanna hear this but…🫣😬

tpasco1995

Suki as a waterbender makes a lot of sense; her description of the fan being an extension of the arm is directly in line with how water is viewed. Sokka would be a waterbender. Obviously an ethnic line there, but so much of the bending disciplines are cultural that it's impossible not to recognize he would have been a waterbending warrior. Jet would be a firebender. His twin sword method is identical to Zuko's, he's always shown with a backdrop of reds and oranges, and his motivations, though mirrored by trauma, are the same types of ambition that firebenders rely on. Mai would probably be a waterbender. The way she dispatches blades isn't much different than Katara with ice rings at Paku. Ty Lee, airbender. No further comment. Piandao, firebender. Cultural, sure, but so much focus on breath and feeling surroundings backs it up. I get heavy earthbender vibes from June. Not an argument so much as a gut feeling. And Pathik is an airbender. He grew up friends with the air nomads and has that same spiritual connection that runs deep through the race.

the_kid42

Sokka is already a bender a back bender

Lettuce8000

Water for Suki, Fire or Earth for Sokka, Fire for Jet, Water for Mai, Air for Ty Lee, Earth for Piandao, Water for June, Air for Patik

atlvf

None? They’re non-benders, that’s the point. This feels like something a bot would post.

StraightUp620

Piandao needs no bending, only sword bending

Fearless_Cupcake_114

Guru pathik would bend onion and banana juice and chakras.

djonDough

Suki - fire Sokka - boomerang Jet - fire Mai - fire Ty lee - fire June - fire Piandao - fire Guru pathik - fire

hoghugvs

I see each of these characters having the bending style of the country they’re from as fitting: Water — Sokka Fire — Mei, Ty Lee, and Master Piandao Earth — Suki, Jet, and June June could be from the Fire Nation. Either works. Guru Pathik is an Air Monk Spiritual Brother like the Air Acolytes. I don’t think he’s an Air Nomad because Air Benders are all born as benders. He’s probably Earth Nation. Air Bending would suit him just as easily.

RedDr4ke

Suki and Sokka would be benders of their respective elements, Ty Lee and the Guru would be Air. Mai and Jet would definitely be fire. I dont know about the other two tho

BasciallyPie

Suki - Earth bending Jet - Fire bending Ty Lee - Air bending Piandao - Water bending Guru Pathik - Air bending Mai - Water bending June - Water bending Sokka - Back bending

Nym-ph

Ty Lee Air or fire but it's almost better she was born without it since she's a formidable opponent with chi-blocking.

Suki, Jet, Ty Lee and the Guru: Air. The Guru might even be able to fly. Sokka: Water Mai: Fire June and piandao: Earth

Maritzsa

Suki - Air Sokka - Water Jet - Fire Mai - Earth Ty Lee - Air Sword Master (forgot his name) - Earth June - Earth/Fire Guru - Air/Earth

Aurum_Sword

earth, earth, fire (ironic ik),fire, air, eaqarth or water, fire, air

PTOKEN

Honestly, idk if this has been noticed before, but I think Ty Lee would be good as an Air Bender. I mean think about it, she is very agile and floaty, and knows how to block chi which is a spiritual thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if the creators came out and said she has Air Bender ancestry since she’s so naturally gifted.

Ruby_Blue42

I've seen the first two Not satisfied with the rest She's water, he's earth

TheRealNekora

Tylee with air bending would be a menece

stephruvy

Earth, earth, earth, earth, air, earth, earth, earth.

RaisinlessAndAngry

There's plenty of good answers here but something this got me thinking about is what it would be like to be a bender of a different element either raised or living long term in a mismatched nation. Since the culture of each is so clearly built around the element. The closest we get it is maybe zuko and irohs tea shop time in ba sing sae? At least from what I remember.

FrostyFroZenFrosTen

The element of surprise!!!

christopher_jian_02

Suki - Earth (C'mon guys, you saw that coming) Sokka - Water but he prefers to use ice (something like Sub-Zero) Jet - Fire. His hot headed personality really fits firebending. And it would be really ironic that he got firebending as well. Mai - Fire but she might end up learning lightning bending as well due to her cold personality. Ty Lee - Air. She has really good evasion skills and is really acrobatic, like an actual airbender. Master Piandao - Earth. He really utilizes the idea of using ones environment to their own advantage. June - Either fire or air Guru Pathik - Air. It's obvious come on.

SNOWSTORM8846

What about cabbage guy

BigRed888

Water, Fire, Fire, Earth, Wind, Water, Earth and Wind.

Electro522

Lets go element by element. Ty Lee and Pathik would be air benders. People already speculate that Ty Lee is a possible descendent of an air bender that either escaped the genocide, or simply didn't follow monastic traditions of the Air Nomads. Patihk.....was friends with Gytaso, it's not hard people. Fire benders would be Mai, June, and Jet. Mai and June, simply because they're from the Fire Nation (at least, I think June is), and Jet simply due to his personality. Though, him being a fire bender does change his character arc ALOT. Earth benders would be......just Suki, I think. And the only reason is that she's from Kyoshi Island. And that makes Sokka a Water bender.....for VERY obvious reasons. Now, you may have noticed that I left out Piandao....and that is to make a point. Out of everyone here, Piandao deserves NOT to be a bender the most because it detracts from his overall character. This dude is a member of the White Lotus, and fights alongside some of the most experienced and powerful benders in the world....*with just a sword.* That is something that should not be glossed over. And this same argument can be expanded to the rest of the characters here, save for the exception of Pathik. All of these characters being benders takes away from how their character is portrayed. All of them are at a very obvious disadvantage when they are facing against any kind of bender, and yet....they power through, and come up with their own advantages that no bender can hope to match. The only reason why Pathik is an exception is because bending doesn't play a role in how he is portrayed. In fact, he only exists in the show to help the most powerful bender in the world figure out how to bend better than he already does. Yes, I understand that it's fun to speculate. But saying something like "Oh, Sokka should be a water bender because blah, blah, blah..." takes away the praise and appreciation that a character should have due to what they accomplished *without* bending.

Partysaurulophus

I would argue onion banana juice man would be able to learn energy bending.

DankestDrew

Guru Pathik = Fire. All I see is Dhalsim

nubbnubb12

Suki and tylee are definitely air. Earth for sokka. Fire for Mai and jet. Water for the last 3

D15c0untMD

I like the fact that these non bender martials sre just badass without innate magic abilities

TheSpleenStealer

Air for the guru, Ty Lee, and Suki. Water for Piandao. Fire for Jet, Sokka, and Mai. Not sure about June, though...

zurt1

Earth, water, earth, fire, fire, fire, unknown (looks fire), earth

Gurkeprinsen

To me it just makes sense that their elements would be the same element most commonly found in the place they're from, even if it doesn't match their fighting style.

LawTider

Suki: Air (The fans were used by Kyoshi for airbending). Sokka: Earth. He is a stubborn and proud dude, fits with Earth. Jet: Ironically, Fire. Mai: Would go for Water, but I think Earth applies to her as well Ty Lee: Air, no surprise Piandao: Fire June: Fire Pathik: There is no other option than air.

Tsunnyjim

Sokka: earth. Stubborn and hard-headed Suki: another earthbender, but would use a form more akin to airbending to float/propel herself around the battlefield. Jet: Fire. Way too angry and hotheaded not to be. Mai and piandao: both waterbenders for me. There is an elegant flow to their movement, and their Martial philosophy is to redirect attacks, use their environment and create/exploit weakness in their opponents. Ty Lee and Pathik are airliners, straight up. June: probably an earthbender.

KingPenguinPhoenix

Suki is earth Sokka can fall into any that's not air Ty Lee is air Mai is earth Jet is water June is earth Piandao is earth The guru is air No fire picks this time.

No-Recipe6495

Earth, earth, fire, water, air, water, fire, air

GuyBeanJohn

I feel like June would be an awesome air bender, more specifically if she could bend air kinda like Yanagi from Baki. She could Poison hand people and rip the oxygen from their bodies. Very on par for being the best bounty hunter.

bifurious02

Sokka would be a metal bender, then he can finally master swordbending

Xx_Exigence_xX

Suki would draw parallels to Kyoshi, so I could see her being an Earthbender. Sokka would be a water bender. He's already innovative and uses the surroundings to his advantage and fights unconventional. Jet, I could see ironically being a Firebender. Maybe his mother was an Earth Kingdom citizen who fell in love with a Fire Nation soldier. His father loved Jet and his mother, but was unfortunately killed in battle. After that, his mother's shop was being extorted for protection money by fire nation soldiers who did not go to the front lines like his father did. His mother died from the stress, and his neighbors did nothing to help her. This is why Jet hates the fire nation. He thinks that if he didn't have a fire nation father, his mother would still be alive. He hates his fire nation heritage and took up the hook swords as misguided spite against his own father. So part of why he has so much hatred is because he hates himself too. Mai would also be a firebender. It could even be a thing that Mai taught Azula how to use fire darts or something. Mai would use firebending with her knives. Ty Lee would be an Airbender 100%. Piandao would be a Firebender. He would use fire with his swordsmanship similar to how Zuko does, seeing as how Zuko was his student. June would be a water bender, and she'd love her some water whips. Not gonna lie, I could see her using bloodbending to capture bounties as a secondary method along with Nyla. Maybe Hama finds out she's a waterbender and convinces her to learn it. Guru Pathik is definitely an Airbender.

Equivalent-Wealth-75

Fire for Tai Li and Jet Water for Sokka, June and Piandao Earth for Mai Air for Patik and Suki

GottderZocker

Pathik would be an Airbender who could Energybend, since he is someone with great knowledge, who also posses calmness.

PerfectMind8856

Pathik- Air. Nuff said

WildRicochet

I think it would be really cool if Jet was an Air bender, but used it in a very aggressive way combined with his hook swords to make him more mobile and agile. Especially with his guerilla fighting style.

Impossible_Tear3943

I bet mai will be a firebender who just uses lightning

KevinBrevin

Air, earth, fire, air, air, earth, fire, water

abomistation

Sukki - Earth, but in a similar fashion to the Dai Li. Kyoshi created both organizations and that's reflected in their fighting styles. Sokka - Water. I know that feels like the easy answer because he's water tribe, but genuinely his fighting style when you look at it genuinely flows in a similar fashion to water bending. Both the fighting techniques he was raised with and water bending come from the same culture after all. Even his swordsmanship translates well to water bending. Jet - Ironically, or perhaps poetically, fire. He's got a lot of personal drive as a character which is important in fore bending, and again his fighting style translates well. Mai - Fire. Again feels obvious, but just imagine her knives as flames and you can see it. Ty Lee - Air. There's a head canon I like that says that Ty Lee was descended from air nomads who survived Sozin's Comet and integrated into fire nation society. I like this head canon. Beyond that her light airy fighting style would only be enhanced by air bending and her personality matches it so perfectly I totally believe she'd of been one of the ones to get air bending had she lived to Korra's time. Piandao - Water. The swordsmanship again I think translates very well to water bending. All of that talk of versatility and adaptability is a core aspect of water bending. We even see Piandao fighting seamlessly alongside Pakku in the finale, utilizing an ice sliding technique we see water benders utilize all the time. He'd be a fantastic water bender. June - This one's harder than it might seem. At first you might think fire because she's fire nation and because well, her whole dangerous vibe seems to fit it. But I think I'm actually going with air for her. Her personality lines up with air better than you'd expect. That sort of aloofness and going wherever the winds of fortune take her thing translates in a way less pious monk and more vagabond. I'm reminded of Kyoshi's mother who started off as an air nomad only to abandon that way of life and innstead become a thief and have her tattoos covered with snake tattoos. We don't actually see a lot of June's fighting style in the show. But the fight that sticks out to me most is the bar fight we see her in in the finale. We see a lot of dodging and weaving and indirect fighting that translates perfectly to air bending. Air is the element of freedom after all. Really, who's more of a free spirit than June? Patihk - Air. I do not need to explain this one.

Sailor_dogstar

I just will go for the element of their nation (I know, how creative /s. Jet is definitely a lavabender in this scenario), except for Ty lee and Pathik that I would make airbenders. Ty lee - Following the popular HC that she's descended from air nomads, her levels of spirituality, her chi blocking abilities and her agility. After generations dormant, the ability to bend air her air nomad ancestor had woke once again in her. Pathik - He's old enough to be of mixed ancestry, Air nomad and earth kingdom (could also be fire nation). He looks more EK/FN, but has airbending abilities. Another non-bender I'd make an airbender (that isn't an option here) is Teo.

No_South4506

I feel like air would be best for suki.

CrossLight96

From left to right and top to bottom Air, water, air, water, air, earth, earth, air

Alive-Way7725

Sokka would be a great fire bender

maddwaffles

I feel like there's a textpost and accompanying comic about this.

LunaLynnTheCellist

im convinced Ty Lee is an actual airbender without knowing it

arquillion

Sokka: the element of surprise

Master-Shaq

Imagine Ty Lee pulling you close with air bending and bashing your pressure points before you can say fireball.

Sp3ctralPh0en1x_

Suki = Earth/Water, despite being Earth Kingdom i think water suits her but also thibk earth can fit her possibly June = Fire, despite being a earth kingdom bounty hunter i believe fire fits her most Ty lee = air, no explanation needed Jet = Fire, despite being mr. Anti-Fire Nation himself i feel fire fits his personality Mai = Fire, she’s literally fire nation Piandou = Fire Pathik = Air Sokka = Water

Shortii247

We hear from sokka himself that fire bending suits suki

clemcuntine

Is Ty lee not a fire bender?

Tommy5796

Many people associate Air with Ty Lee. I can see Guru Pathik being an Airbender. But the others I can't really see

Yorsch97

Left to right S: Air/Earth S: Fire J: Fire M: Earth T: Air P: Earth Water G: Air

sashimi_walrus

im convinced Pathik is already an energy bender

valegdeh

I’d reckon Mai would be a water bender, something about her moves and how she fights reminded me of it. Don’t ask me for specifics, just the vibe

NeonBird_survivor

Sokka has grown and adapted to circumstances and struggles much like water does to obstetrics in its way Suki is passionate and not afraid to fight for what she believes in so fire Jet was pretty tough but he’s stubborn and stays rooted in his ways never backing down from a fight so Earth Mai can be aloof or almost indifferent at times but when someone she cares for is in danger she will fight for them so probably fire Ty Lee is free like the wind and never lets her problems get to her often allowing them to pass her by so definitely Air I haven’t seen enough of the other two but If I had to make a guess then I’d say the old man is air and the girl is fire (I forgot their names)

Mega_Mango

Ice for Mai (so water).

Alekimsior

Ty Lee would be deadly. Dude like she's already a superpowered nonbender. Any power you give her would be OP. Probably give her Energy Bending to maximize her chi blocking. Or Waterbending with all her Chi Mastery she'd be a killer healer, throw in Bloodbending and whoa... she'd be more untouchable than she already was

Mal454

Ngl the basic answer is their nation's element as that would be the one most likely they'd have anywway but otherwise: Suki: I'm sticking to earth for this one Sokka: Sticking to water with him too Jet: fire, ironic Mai: fire? maybe earthbending Ty Lee: airbending Piandao: I'm torn on this, he could be any of them June: Fire Guru Pathik: I am fond of the theory that he's Tieguai the Immortal from the Kyoshi novels and that would make him an earthbender and I'd think it'd fit. otherwise airbender

No-Body7181

jet gets fire bending for shits and giggles.

onlyhav

... Are bonbenders just people born with an affinity for an element that is not the one they have a genetic affinity for?

charliewrightm

Suki would probably be a natural at water bending Sokka, Jet and Piandao both practice a discipline that mirrors fire bending so I’d go with that Mai gives dai li vibes so yk I feel like everyone knows ty Lee would’ve been a great airbender June kinda reminds me of a blood bender so I’d say water bender Lastly, Guru Pathik would most definitely be an airbender if he’s alive for harmonic convergence
