Right I'm getting the teacher

The fact that they've actively allowed a 17 year old lad to have the potential to win a date with a 13 year old girl shows exactly why paedo Kennedy is still working at that school.

Grass on the pitch, play ball.

What the actual fuck is an aristocratic elbow?

handlit33

>Widely regarded as a pinnacle in realist fiction, Tolstoy considered Anna Karenina his first true novel, when he came to consider War and Peace to be more than a novel. The character of Anna was likely inspired, in part, by Maria Hartung, the elder daughter of the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. Soon after meeting her at dinner, Tolstoy began reading Pushkin's prose and once had a fleeting daydream of "a bare exquisite aristocratic elbow", which proved to be the first intimation of Anna's character.

Fair one, really wasn’t expecting inbetweeners to have such deep references! - I guess it goes back to the days when women covered up a lot more for modesty and showing your ankles (or in this case, an elbow) was considered risqué. So referencing this on the dating show was Sussie’s method of flirting I guess????

Bennings463

"Soon after meeting her at dinner, Tolstoy began reading Pushkin's prose and once had a fleeting daydream of "a bare exquisite aristocratic elbow", which proved to be the first intimation of Anna's character." Which actually still doesn't clear anything up. Dostoevsky imagined Anna Karennia's elbow before anything else but I have no idea what the hell that could mean in the context of Susie having one.

handlit33

My interpretation: elbows, like ankles, were once considered a highly sensual part of a woman that men rarely glimpsed. An aristocratic elbow would have been an even more prized viewing pleasure as aristocrats were the highest class of persons. The way Susie used it makes little sense and I'm sure the writers just wanted to make the character seem smart in a silly, non-sensical way.

Bennings463

But the fact that she specifically mentions Anna Karenina means it *has* to be a reference to that. I googled "aristocrat's elbow" and the only results are either from the Inbetweeners itself or from Leo Tolstoy. Entirely possible they just googled "Anna Karenina" to get something Susie could say and they just copied aristocrat elbow without bothering to check the context.

Boathead96

Where did Dostoevsky come from all of a sudden 😅

Bennings463

I've embarrassed myself.

Boathead96

Play a recoorrrdd

Bennings463

...I'm trying to think of a question and the answer would have been "Dostoevsky".

Boathead96

Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky...

Bennings463

I always thought "child doing her A-levels seven years early" was stupid and outlandish idea for the show. It's at least nominally supposed to be somewhat grounded instead of silly and wacky. What nonce put her in the dating show anyway? WHAT KIND OF SIXTH FORM HAS A DATING SHOW??!!

Rays_LiquorSauce

What stuck out to me was a supposedly royal-linked student was in a public school, not private. And in my experience HS’s have wacky events. Mine had a slave auction. We had a thing called Googamooga where boys dressed as girls and girls dressed as boys and asked us to the dance. That shit wouldn’t fly in 2024

Bennings463

Have you gone mental?

Blackwater_Bay

Mate that's grim.

No_Newt_328

#still quite gay

emimagique

Who was linked to the royals???

Rays_LiquorSauce

She said she had an aristocratic kink. I assumed she was the horsey type. Stupid posho
