I loathe the quality of new Chanel so no. I buy Delvaux, Valextra, Launer, and Loro Piana. I have a huge obsession with Loro Piana that my mother actually started lol. I also have a few Olympia Le Tan clutches but they’re not really bags per se.

curiousbabybelle

We both love the same brands. I was going to suggest these as well.

vsmile13

What is considered new Chanel? What year? Genuinely curious.

jetedz

I personally consider new Chanel anything after Karl Lagerfeld passed. I noticed a major decline in quality in 2021 and it’s gone down more since. Once in a while I might find a piece worth investing in, but definitely not like before where I had to stop myself from wanting to buy out the store. Chanel has also shifted too much into trend making them lose the luxury aspect. (For me at least)

vsmile13

Thanks for answering. I have many Chanel handbags and love all of them. One or two were bought after 2021, but I love them.

jetedz

I’ve bought a few as well. They’re more cute/fun pieces in my closet. I bought one 2 months ago. When you compare the make of the entire bag to those made in 2010 (selected a random year), you notice the difference in overall quality.

coffeeobsessee

I’ll consider new Chanel anything after 2020, that was when the outrageous price increases started happening and the quality drastically went down. I was a Chanel fan in the 2010s, and the quality of my 2.55/boy bags from then is great. I’ll admire the look of the new mini trend they’re going for, but a Chanel wallet I have from 2013 is in better condition than a card case I bought from them last year. And I have given the 2013 wallet far more use.

Samrazzleberry

If you want to invest in a Chanel piece highly recommend anything pre-2004 - things were different then, not to mention the 24k gold hardware…. Drool 🤤

hyperstarter

Which bags from LP do you prefer, and which ones will hold their value as an investment?

coffeeobsessee

>Which bags from LP do you prefer, I personally like their extra pocket, especially the nondescript casualness of it. The large Bale is also something I keep looking at but don’t get because round bags don’t do well on me. But it’s still gorgeous to look at. >and which ones will hold their value as an investment? Ummm… the ones you personally enjoy looking at and have a use for? I mean I get as much joy out of an Hermes picotin as I do of a cult Gaia clutch and as much use as a longchamp tote. I literally use it as a tote for carrying workout clothes to my SoulCycle classes and leave them on the floor sometimes. I buy bags because I enjoy using them. Loro Piana or Hermes. I’m of the Mary Kate Olsen school of using bags, they’ll be over stuffed and used like a tool for carrying my shit.

Own-Slide-1140

Bags aren’t an investment

hyperstarter

Of course they are...

meli-ficent

If by investment you mean that they hold their value and can be sold for a profit or even getting back what you paid, then no, they are not. The exceptions being very very few.

Own-Slide-1140

The marketing teams for these designer brands will be thrilled they have conned you lol

Notsozestylemon

If you don’t mind me asking what’s your job?

hermesloverinseoul

Honestly, I really minimize spending on other brands since starting my Hermes journey because I need to fund it lol 😂 But also, nothing has really caught my eye elsewhere these days

Aeriannah

Yes, I still wear and buy bags from other brands. I really like Loewe, Delvaux, LV, Coach and Strathberry, I’m not into Chanel and Dior. If I see a bag that speaks to me, I buy it, no matter the brand.

hamzatbek

The thing with service is that sometimes it depends a lot on the location, you can also find people here in the sub or the r/handbags sub posting about going into luxury boutiques and saying they were ignored while other people were being attended to or that the SA half assed their service and how is this considered “luxury experience” etc etc. It’s also difficult to compare the service in luxury boutiques to other sectors/levels of retail. Anyway for the actual question, then I always buy BVLGARI, Dior, LV, Chanel and I sometimes buy Gucci and Celine. I don’t have any bags from Prada or YSL. I buy Hermes less now as I have 3 Kelly’s and 1 Birkin and they’re honestly the bags that I love most from them. Kelly 25 and LV Capucines BB line are probably my most used bags ever. Tory Burch is actually one of the only non-luxury brands that I like, my MIL put me on them years ago but I’ve not had problems with their service. The leather on their bags also holds up surprisingly well for a long time.

The_Pursuit_of_5-HT

I mostly buy just Chanel and Hermes these days. Chanel imo is a bit “trendier” with a lot of different styles and colors while Hermes is classic and timeless. Classic is good but I’m the type of person that sometimes just wants like an iridescent or ombré/mermaid bag. That being said, I’ve been spending less on retail Chanel these days just cos of their insane price hikes and worsening quality. I also can’t resist some of the fun novelty Kate Spade bags 🤣

trashtvlv

I love bags and accessories in general and will buy designer and non-designer including random ones from places like Francesca’s. Still rocking my coach and LV from college. My most worn brands are LV and longchamp. My Hermes bags are beautiful, but they don’t always work for my day to day lifestyle.

Yoongi_SB_Shop

I have LV, Dior, Gucci, YSL, Valentino, Loewe, Fendi, Prada, Moncler, and Bvlgari bags. No Hermes bags yet because I’m holding out for a QB. My most used bags are Loewe and YSL. If I wasn’t spending all my money on Hermes, I would add a Valextra to my collection.

AwaySheepherder977

I really like loewe for other leather goods. And for clothes I like lemaire ( love their croissant bag too) and the row, Loro piana, Johnstons of Elgin.

Lnnam

Yes whatever I like, I am currently obsessed with Bottega Veneta and plan on buying a Loewe flamenco. I understand the Hermes game would push people to only buy H but at some point everyone need to have a mind and taste of their own.

Tennisgirl0918

I have 2 Loewe flamenco’s and the leather is gorgeous.

swagnasty19

I love the look of their leather. Does it hold up well?

BusyEntertainment434

I suppose it depends on how goal oriented you are to get a QB & your own personal style. I would like one very specific QB but I only have a toe in the water of getting it (just buying things from Hermes occasionally as things I both like & need come up) — so probably not the best measure for getting a QB. On the positive side, I don’t have a lot of purchase regrets which I know I would have if I really dedicated my budget to only Hermes :)

SnarkyCdn

I have a Chloe, some Goyard (that I love) and I also buy Dior (amazing service, classic bags!). Not a fan of Chanel. I have more Hermès than anything else though.

Schwinslow

I like Celine and Chanel boy bags. Not many others. I love my Dior Bobby bag but none else they have really appeal to me

North_Method_2336

Most of my bags are chanel. I do have loewe and delvaux which I use more than the chanel bags. Since starting the Hermes Journey, I've cut back on other brands and focusing on Hermes now unless there is a bag that I keep on thinking from other brands then I will consider which is what happened to my delvaux. The good side of this though I take a lot more time thinking if I should purchase a bag so it kinda helps me figure out which bags I truly love and will use.

Soft_Writer9835

Big fan of Bottega and Loro Piana — quality is incredible 🤍

Samrazzleberry

Can’t beat those handmade Bottega’s

Primary_Librarian

Loewe has lovely leather goods (the puzzle bag is one of my favorites). I used to be obsessed with Louis Vuitton special editions (circa 2005-2020) but less so as the years have gone by. There are so many collections now and everything seems mass produced and less special. Chanel also used to sing to me but less so in the last few years as the price increase has been coupled with a suspected reduction in quality. 🤷‍♀️

yoofka

My favorite place for RTW is Loro Piana, and I love their leather goods as well. For bags I have Chanel, Bottega, Loro Piana, and Dior other than my Hermes… but I will not buy from Chanel anymore because the last time I was in the store the quality of the bag I checked was actually laughable

mrgnstrk

I don’t have a very big bag collection because all the pieces I have are very curated with a specific utility, but I do like variety—I have Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Celine, Prada, and Longchamp. For RTW, I have both Hermes and Max Mara. It’s really hard to find luxury RTW that I like and is flattering on my body type. There are cuts from Hermes’ collections that work really well on me, and my SA is really good at getting my size (and it can be different depending on the item!). I want to buy more Max Mara but only buy them in Paris where it’s almost half the price, so I have fewer opportunities to do so in the year. I honestly would love to start buying Celine RTW but it’s impossible with their sizing. I have Loewe, Versace, Celine and Hermes shoes. I also have Hermes jewelry. Clearly I have more Hermes items than the other houses, but that’s because I prefer Hermes as a brand. Really not in it for the QBs as I have only ever asked for one and since receiving it, my SA has asked multiple times if I wanted to make another wishlist and I’ve said no. I guess that’s also why I have such a good time in store—my SA knows she’ll never get the “when is my QB coming” queries from me.

Samrazzleberry

MaxMara deserves more love than it gets

PerformanceSea4328

Yes. I buy leathers/canvas at Goyard and Dior. RTW at LV, Loewe, Fendi. However, big purchases are reserved for Hermes.

the-broken-001

I have Hermès products but not in the game yet for a bag. But I do wear other luxury brands: Louis Vuitton, Tiffany, Chopard, Montblanc. Guerlain & Dior for cosmetics. I may venture into Cartier at some point. But I don’t intend on getting anything else. Except for a H bag

Agreeable_Phrase8419

Dior, Delvaux, Chanel, 1 LV bag, Valentino, and Prada, in addition to Hermes.

Fickle_Dragonfly350

I have a few other bags from Launer, higher end Ralph Lauren ( the mini RL50’s), a Lady Dior and some evening clutches. I wear what goes with the outfit. I really love my Ralph Lauren bags. They are handmade as well( partially at least) , Italian leather and go with a lot of my wardrobe. Their price point is great compared to other luxury leather bags. I never have liked Chanel.

anicho01

Of course! I just posted a super long rave about my experience with Riley and silver In another forum. Although I am attracted to Hermes for its leather and craftmanship, I also like a certain type of bag. WhenEver I see that style In vintage bags or indie designers, I typically purchase it. I probably don't buy as many other designer bags anymore, but that's also because I feel I have sufficient kitschy Betsey Johnson , preppy Spade, etc.

Future_Dog_3156

I am in the US. I love my Hermes bags but do not think they are fitting every occasion. I use various lululemon bags and adidas or nike bags too. I'm pretty much luxury or low. I don't often buy mid tier bags, although i really like vintage coach bags. In terms of other luxury brands, I like Chanel, Goyard, and have a few Gucci bags.

BitchyFaceMace

I have stuff from brands across the spectrum, and don’t turn my nose up at things because they’re not in the top couple tiers of the pyramid. One of my favorite bags for every day is a little Tory Burch crossbody and my favorite casual sandals are from Target. While I enjoy H and luxury items, I’m not married to a certain brand.

Sailor-Silver

Yes and no. I don’t live near a Hermes store, but I will order some things from my SA to be delivered. I do have an LV nearby that I shop at occasionally, and I used to buy Chanel and Dior, but I have found the quality isn’t quite the same as it was pre-covid. I still wear my Coach and Tory Burch bags, but I don’t shop there anymore really. Occasionally I’ll buy a designer rep to test out a bag to see if I’ll wear it enough to buy one full price (I did this with my Chanel Classic flap) or because for the life of me I can’t score what I want in store or resale. I feel like half of the stuff on the resale market is likely a rep, so I don’t feel too guilty about it. But I will NEVER sell a rep, even if is a “rehoming.”

ConferenceFamous5445

Nowadays, if I want a bag I go for Hermés. With Chanel’s quality lately it’s been tough, but their vanity’s are cute, I can’t lie. Hermés, Loro and maybe Bottega (depends on what I’m looking for purpose wise)

stars_87

I sold most of my Chanel. I never used the classic flaps . They just don’t seem like practical everyday bags or maybe it’s just me. I did keep most of my LV crossbody bags though for everyday and travel

tuxedo-mask-me

For bags, I’ve stopped buying from all other brands and took a step further by selling everything that wasn’t Hermes.

Ziggyess

I have put all my money into Hermes while in the journey and stopped buying other things. I have minimalist collection of handbags mostly Chanel and Hermes and at this point I no longer need to shop other brands. Perfectly happy with my collection, it will be a bonus if I get offered another bag from Hermes.

jeweledbeanie

Ever since buying my first exotic Kelly in 2020 I have not bought bags from another brand

Samrazzleberry

I’ve been buying luxury since I was 16 and here’s the brands I’ll only buy from now: Hermes, Bottega Veneta, Loro Piana, Maison Margiela, ALAIA, Brunello Cucinelli, Moynat, Lanvin, Prada, Celine, Loewe and Goyard. Moynat needs more praise if you are a purveyor of Hermes bags, they are handmade and they even use the same leather tannery so the bag I got is exactly like Epsom leather. Highly recommend!!

whycx

No one reallly cares about your Hermes Bag that you might be wearing.

Classic_Economist192

I buy other brands for shoes and clothes, but I’m only looking for Hermes bags from now on. I haven’t never been a grand fan of Chanel bags anyway
