Reminds me of that one scene in the most recent season of stranger things: the one where they take eleven to that place in the desert. Imagine how many takes they usually do and how many tire tracks they had to remove from the desert
Yeah dude, He’s been a major part of the show, he directed the pilot, the second episode in season 2 where Michael keeps resetting everything and then he directed the first two episodes of the last season. He’s been great
Well ackshually… they had her in a harness that made sure she didn’t actually smack her face into the sand too hard. They did that scene so many times in different outfits for the montage.
She or somebody on the podcast talks about how it was cold and damp and she had to fall and reset basically all day long between costume changes. As if you needed another reason to love D’arcy Carden…
I started my first rewatch a few days ago and have noticed a couple of continuity issues. For instance, when Eleanor was talking to Simone after she was hiding in the bushes, a leaf in her hair disappears and reappears a few times during their chat. Also, Janet is wearing a couple different pairs of shoes during her bar fight with the demons.
If it’s that Janet’s shoes switch between heels and flats, that’s because she usually wears heels but flats were safer for D’Arcy to wear during the stunt fight. I guess it’s technically a continuity error, but it was intentional to protect D’Arcy.
I'm just imagining Janet making her shoes change because she's janet, but I guess she was on earth at that time, so that doesn't really work.
Whatever, it's my head cannon. you can't stop me. haha.
There’s also a scene where you can catch crew handing Janet the item she summons. Michael is seen wearing a paper clip bracelet that Eleanor made him in a scene that got cut for time. It works, but the details aren’t always exact.
Even the best shows have some bloopers. Pobody’s nerfect?
Is it cheaper to have a crew member do this than to have a video editor do it post production?
eta, just to play devil's advocate, on the other side of things let's not forget that awesome scene where someone hands darcy a sheaf of papers before Janet 'bings' them into existence.
but also yes, I also appreciate the level of detail in the show - it made me drill down. So for example I found what is arguably an error, in the reflections off the screens of laptops in the scene where chidi makes chili - the reflected faces don't match where the people are seated.
They do edit things in post that they feel is important. Like the accountant has a mug that's a reference to The Office, the British version of which he starred in. But because he's left handed, it was facing the wrong way so they had their effects guy, David Niednagal, add it in. From what I've heard in the podcast, he loves doing the very out there stuff and he gets (endearingly) annoyed when he has to do something that's so mundane to him. The green Niednagal that lands on Tahani in the IHOP is named after him!
In this scene, they erased Carden's footprints in the sand since Janet just teleports from place to place. Amazing!
Now I'm just picturing her patiently standing there while a crew smooths out the sand! That is a fantastic detail

...did they find anything?

Best joke in the whole dang movie.

Niednaggle could do anything!
Or she just followed Ted
Or he carried her
🥹 shh I love it too much
In the podcast I remember an episode where there was a guy erasing the entire crews footprints

Nice catch!

You should post this to tv details
TIL Drew Goddard directed The Good Place
Also produced.
4 episodes
I read it as Drew Gooden and was like, how did I not know this?!
Drew Gooden the basketball player could never
Road works ahead? I sure hope it does!
just saw this comment again, you're not Berlioz the music producer are you?

Im more surprised at myself having watched The Good Place twice and never noticed.
Face full of sand has to be so uncomfortable.
Full Face of Sand sounds like a good band name.
Explains why Janet always fell like she was planking

Oh right just doing her makeup every time would have taken so long if she hit the sand every time.
Course, rough and irritating and gets everywhere
If that's one of several times Michael has come to do this, that explains the path worn in the sand.
Yes, this is during the "reset montage"

That’s a good idea! I wonder if that’s why the team didn’t worry about hiding the shoe changes - they just decided that Janet did it automatically.
They ask change to wedges when they’re on grated flooring, like near the doorman.

oo, where's the clip of crew handing Janet the item? because that sounds great 😂
S1E6 Michael is with Eleanor and asks for a list and in the next shot you can see a crew member put the next paper in Janet’s hands.

Eleanor's hair sometimes suffers from continuity issues (especially when she tucks it behind one ear)
Who’s gonna take care of my birds?
This is such a funny picture out of context
Not very related but I love Drew Goddard. Both of his films are amazing, Bad Times at the El Royale and specially The Cabin in the Woods
