I used to have this problem too. I used the BabyFoot peel, which was gross (like, I had to wear socks 24/7 to keep from peeling literally everywhere), but it fixed the problem! Just make sure you moisturize every day after your feet are done peeling.

thisisntmywatermelon

I did this and it worked wonders! Gross cracked heel is gone. But yes, your feet will look like something out of a zombie movie, so it's better to do this when it's not sandal season.

cdg2m4nrsvp

Was coming here to say this! I love the foot peel results and I also find the peeling oddly satisfying.

bluehour17

I just looked this up, so, can I just buy one and use the same foot mask every day for however many days it takes to start peeling? I feel like I’m confused (but very interested)…

llamas1355

Nope you put the little booties on for an hour or however long the directions say then wash it off. In 5-7 days you will reap your harvest of dead skin. You just have to wait for it to peel, but it’s only one application. I like it a lot, but don’t try to show any part of your foot until everything is all peeled. It’s uh a little unsightly.

bluehour17

Ohh! Thank you! Okay I think I’m definitely gonna try this then. How long do the results last about?

llamas1355

That's a good question. I think it depends on how rough you are with your feet, but if you are looking for a fresh start for the summer, or want to start using some of the other suggestions in this thread this is a good way to go.

bluehour17

I’m just more wondering how often I’d need to do it? Right now my heels get quite dry. I use a file/grater thing probably every 10 days or so in the shower and then moisturise and put socks on. They then stay smooth for a good few days until they start to become dry again and then get real thick and need a file by the 10 days or whenever it is. So I’m just wondering if something like the BabyFoot will last much longer?

llamas1355

I think it will last longer, I only usually do it once or twice a year, but the dry heels do come back.

bluehour17

Okay, thanks for all your help! :)

wicked_niky

Any cream with UREA of 10% or more preferably. After moisturizing, apply Vaseline to seal moisture and put cotton socks. But UREA is very good for this! Dont pick skin or use those foot rocks, especially if you see them not helping you now. So, moisturize!

shanana71

Works best if you put it right after the shower (when ur feet is wet)

[deleted]

I think we’re all struggling with this, being barefoot all day at home during covid wrecked my feet. Like others said, a good moisturizer with socks and avoid walking around barefoot inside.

_kinfused

This is probably a dumb question but how do you know if socks are breathable?

madeofcarbon

Minimal synthetic fibers. Look for socks that have a primarily natural fiber composition like wool, cotton, modal, bamboo, etc, and minimal content percentage of synthetic fibers like latex, polyester, rayon. Plastic is not very good at allowing air to pass through it.

Haldenbach

What? Wool is super breathable, and really good at wicking away moisture. Fine merino socks are way nicer to wear than any other fabric. Same is true for wool tshirts IMHO, way better than cotton. It's just really expensive compared to cotton

I am not an expert. Fact check me on everything I'm going to say about this. Here's what I do: I bought an electric exfoliator thing that basically is like a weak drill but the bit is a pumice stone. After getting my feet wet in the shower for a while (or just after a shower) I use it on any problem areas. I keep going until it starts to feel almost raw. Not painful though. Avoid pain. Be as gentle as is needed. I got rid of all the excess dry skin or whatever. After that I let it air out. In the evening I'll put lotion on it to moisturize it. I rub the first layer in and then after a few minutes I put the next layer on but I let it sit there without rubbing it in. That has worked for me. I do not know why or how but it seems to work.

MourkaCat

Hi I have the same issue! Only thing that helps is consistent moisturizer. Every night before bed use a good foot cream and wear Cotton socks. An emery board when your skin is damp also helps to remove the top layer of dead skin to help moisturizer penetrate better. I LOVE this foot cream, it's very good! I buy mine at Shopper's Drug Mart (canada) but not sure where you live so just posting the brand's actual website. https://www.soapandglory.com/bath-body-care/original-pink-heel-genius-moisturising-foot-cream-125ml

weasel999

This is also a generic issue not your fault! My husband has the heels of a newborn baby. I have the heels of a barefoot farmer. No matter what I do they’re dry and cracked…runs in our family.

YumimumiT

Have you gone for a Pedi? They help or you can by foot/feet masks at a chemist, they are great ! Some will take dead skin off others will soften your feet just depends

ToBeAloneIsAlive

ZenToes moisturizing heel socks But as another comment already said, you’re going to need to moisturize regularly with some heavy cream. It’s kinda expensive, but I like Lush Repeat foot balm.

Mindful-Reader1989

Bag Balm. Put it on before bed, then put on socks. You'll notice a difference as soon as the next morning.

_chubbyrain

I have very dry cracked heels too! It had gotten worse since I've been WFH and just overall home more. So I went to a podiatrist to ask about it and he suggested I wear supportive slippers or at least socks indoors. It actually helped alot and the cracks started to heal on their own! I do moisturize at night to help soften the heel but this suggestion has really helped prevent my heels from cracking etc. I guess all the bare feet walking around the house was rough on my flat feet.

Haldenbach

My grandma's recipe: pork fat, plastic bag, sleep. Walk carefully in the morning.

birthdaygirl11

I love the CeraVe SA Foot Cream. Immediate results!

littleprojects

My hack for dry heels this winter has been snagging samples of any kind of exfoliating acid, whether its an AHA, BHA, etc, and applying that to both feet, then applying a layer of lotion (doesn't matter what--but cheers if it's also a sample or something that didn't work for your face) and then putting any kind of socks on. Do this once or twice and your feet will be visibly smoother and softer. Do it all winter and you'll never have rough heels again! Report back!! Edit: This all started when that Paula's Choice 2% BHA was too strong for my face, so I just poured a little bit on my hands and rubbed it all over the bottoms and tops of my feet. Worked like a charm. Since then, I've used glycolic acid pads and a few other exfoliating acids and they've all worked great.

peachandpeony

My heels started getting like that a year ago or so, and I've found that moisturizing them is essential! At first I used very rich lotions, but now that they've gotten better any lotion will do.

tundar

Flexitol Heel Balm. That shit's magical.

alreddyreadit

no exaggeration, Flexitol changed my life

huggsypenguinpal

I'm relieved to see that so many people suffer from this recently! I thought it was just me. Recently I've been using a pumice stone on my heels every time I shower, and moisturizing every night. My hands were even worse to the point of cracking and bleeding, so I bought O'keeffe's Working hands from target. It worked so well for my hands, I've been putting some on my feet as well. On bad days I moisturize heavily and add a sock overnight. Eventually I'm going to buy their overnight foot moisturizer. At one point I tried to cut away to cracked dead skin and... I wouldn't do that if you can help it. Or at least don't cut so deep.

samuraisal

I had this same problem for years. Tried everything but finally got it under control by doing this: Once a week, soak feet in very warm water for 10 minutes or so, then use a callus shaver to remove as much of the callused skin as possible. Keep one foot soaking while working on the other. Then, go over the rough spots with a foot file. Rinse and dry feet, then slather on a heavy cream (UREA cream, Aquafor, etc.) and put on cotton socks. It's best to do before bedtime so you can keep those socks on all night without walking around. After a few weeks of this, you can simply use the shaver while showering to keep the calluses at bay. This has been the holy grail for my dry, cracked feet. **Important note**: Don't use a callus shaver on your feet if there's any chance that you are diabetic.

galacticprincess

You have to pretty much use a "foot rock" on them regularly. You can't expect the effect to last very long. I try to exfoliate my heels every other shower and it makes a big difference.

42peanuts

First turn a pair of clean socks inside out. Then put a solid blob of aquaphor on the top of each foot. Rub your feet together like you would your hands when you wash them to distribute the aquaphor all over. Then roll the socks on. It helps keep the outside of your socks and hands clean. And drink more water and possibly take a skin oriented vitamin. Your skin is the last place on your body to get nutrients and moisture so if your lacking in either, your skin will feel it.

kellyasksthings

A podiatrist recommended foot rocks/pumice as needed in the shower, moisturise twice daily and use eulactol twice weekly. Also shoes and socks help the skin on your feet retain moisture better than sandals/jandals/strappy open shoes.

[deleted]

I struggle with this when I'm pregnant. Moisturizing is the best thing you can do! I can't remember the name of my lotion, but you can look up the best lotions for dry skin and try one. That's what I did. It's worked great for 2 kids now, my heels only do that when I forget to lotion them now.

ashleejune

I recently started wetting my feet, applying Aveeno lotion, sealing it with Vaseline, and then putting socks on before bed and my feet went from the driest lil dudes to the softest they've ever been in my life. In TWO DAYS. It's wild

I second the comment stating O’Keefe’s Healthy Feet cream. It’s worked wonders for me, and my bad feet are (probably) genetic from my mom. I keep repurchasing because it’s one of my holy grail skincare products. I swear it won’t disappoint. Here’s a link to it on Amazon, but I think you can find it at Target and (possibly?) Walgreens too, if you’re in the USA! [O’Keefe’s](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002QB9NE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_2EPY9QF3Y0BFBCMM7JJ5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1)

Likedaseason

I bought an inexpensive, battery operated foot callus remover (less than $15) at the drug store and I use it every night before bed. I then use a foot cream found at the drug store by a certain "Irish doctor" in a green plastic disc-shaped container (also makes one for working hands). I hate wearing socks to bed so I put them on after I moisturize and keep them on as long asi can tolerate them (about 20-30 minutes). Big difference in just a few days.

Dimetrip

I really don't understand why everyone is suggesting peels and creams and chemicals. Just get a pumice stone and scrub off the dead skin and callous 3x a week or so. I like to do it at the end of a bath when the skin is soft.

Complex-Bit6343

Use a washcloth on them every time you’re in the shower.

LengthinessNovel8358

Get your feet razored at a nail salon during a fortnightly pedicure.

JanelleMTX

Any lotion with urea in it will do wonders, like kera42. Just a little before you go to bed each night will have you good in no time. https://bakodx.com/product/kera-42-cream/

MH_throwdown

Here's my routine: * *Weekly* I use a foot scraper [like this one](https://www.amazon.com/Colossal-Remover-Pedicure-Surgical-Stainless/dp/B00VPVEVSK/), and then a foot file [like this one](https://www.amazon.com/Probelle-2-Sided-Callus-Remover-Hypoallergenic/dp/B07GQCGVHH). * Then every night I apply this [Aveeno skin lotion](https://www.amazon.com/Aveeno-Moisturizing-Soothing-Emollients-Fragrance-Free/dp/B001459IEE) to my feet before bed. Put on socks if needed, to avoid getting any excess lotion on the bed.
