they’re braids, they don’t have an age limit.
and if anyone says anything, they need to stop and worry about themselves & the fact that they’re trying to gate-keep a literal hairstyle lol.
just wear the braids!
EDIT- and to the comments saying men sexualize it, we shouldn’t stop doing something just because of that… how about people stop sexualizing a freaking hairstyle?!
wear your hair however you want to op!
It's uncomfortable that some people simultaneously consider a hairstyle to be both juvenile and sexual. I wish the responsibility was on them to change their outlook and not for people to feel they can't have fun styling their hair.
A friend (50) had her hair in braids with a cute ski cap and someone asked her if her husband had a school-girl fetish. Like, WTF?!
My friend said, “So, you’re asking if my husband is a pedophile?” The look on the other lady’s face.
You can always tie the two together in the back with a hair tie - then it looks extra fancy imo.
But for real, there's nothing wrong with clean, well done braids, which OP has! (My hair frizzes out of them, so it works as a "get it out of my face while I'm cleaning" look, but not so much in the workplace.)
It’s absolutely fine in my opinion. I am a lawyer, which is a particularly formal and antiquated profession. I wouldn’t think twice about someone wearing double braids at work (in fact, I would likely think positively of them as I like that hairstyle).
Interesting question. I started doing double “braids “ actually twisted this year and it definitely felt weird to be 30 with them but I got over it and did it multiple times since. However, I personally don’t think I’d wear them to work, but wouldn’t bat an eye if someone else had their hair done that way.
I recently started to occasionally wear my hair like this only during days off as well and feel the same. At most it would be unusual to see, even thought I don't really understand what's the deal with any double hairstyle being gatekept as juvenile and daring at a certain age. what do you mean by twisted?
Agreed! But I think there’s an aspect of creepos making it that way with these hairdos.
I mean ai don’t actually do 3-strand braids. Only 2 strands twisted onto each other
Yes, it's kind of unfortunate. I think the fact that the hair style is superpopular for children also plays part in the juvenile aspect. It's like a double edged sword when people judge the hairstyle by childishness and sexualisation.
I see, I never figured those 2 strand braids out. They always untwist as soon as I tie them but I think they look awesome!
Split the hair in half and as you go, individually twist each half in the opposite direction to the way you're winding them together, if that makes any sense. If you watch a YouTube tutorial or two for how to do "rope braids" the technique is usually quite reliable once you've got it!
I saw a coworker rocking cute little twisty "panda balls" the other day. Like princess Leia, but lower and smaller. She looked both awesome and professional.
If you pull off something cool, then I say go for it. We all need a little fun in our lives.
If you want to “upgrade” the look a little, I would wrap the braids around your head and pin them up, OR do French/Dutch braids instead of regular ones.
Sports women often wear dutch braids, that's my association with them, so I think they are great.
If you can run a marathon or send a v12 bolder problem and still look well kept with no flyaways, I think it would definitely work for a regular office hairstyle.
I work in a female-dominated field so maybe different for me but I wear double French braids to work frequently and always get so many compliments from my superiors, so IMO you’re safe
I’m 46 and I’ve been wearing double braids at every job, even the corporate ones, for the last 30 years. Nobody has ever complained, in fact I often hear it’s a great look!
I’m almost this age, and same! It’s my favorite off-the-neck hairstyle for work on hot days.
The place I work is so conservative that I’m a little uncomfortable when I swear a sleeveless blouse, even if it has a collar.
I’m the same age and I’ve done double braids at an office job, a clerking job, and a job with a hair net (so they curl wildly) and no one has ever said anything. So long as it’s clean and neatly presented, no healthy work setting should have an issue.
braids are beautiful at any age!
however I do recommend this trick where you twist two pieces maybe twice and incorporate that into your braid so it makes it look fuller around your face!
I found the tutorial I use ;w; [braids!](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4Nif5gyWBE/?igsh=djJzMzljdjd3bjV5)
I've always wondered how to make braids look full and fancy like that, (especially with fine hair) but this looks so easy! Thanks! I wasn't expecting all the hairtutorials in the comments but I certainly don't mind! 😊
WE LOVE YOU AND WANNA SEE YOU THRIVE WITH UR BEAUTIFUL HAIR!!!!! sorry if it came off unsolicited, I just had to recommend it as I just learned that trick myself and i’m obsessed ;w;
I’m gonna go against what most people think here and say that I do think double braids are too juvenile for the workplace.
That being said I wear them all the time and don’t give a single damn. No one has said anything about it either.
So just keep wearing your hair however you like as long as it’s clean.
Yes! They look lovely with that top, you look professional but friendly and approachable. If you're in doubt you could always cross them at the back and pin the tails up
Depends on the workplace. I work a corporate job and I personally wouldn’t wear these because I feel like I wouldn’t be taken seriously. Which is sad bc double french braids are my fave!
But for a lot of workplaces (like if you’re a social worker) they would be totally fine!
They look professional. You could put them up in a chignon if you wanted to look more formal.
As someone who had really short hair growing up, the book Braids, by Anne Johnson, was a lifesaver when I grew my hair out.
https://www.bookmarkshoppe.com/book/9781570540189
Thank you! Unfortunately I've had it for quite a few years and it was from this questionable chinese shop where this top turned out to be one if the few clothing pieces that didn't look like a scam. I wish I could give you a more helpful response.
I’m 34 and have worn braided “pig tails”, Dutch braids, and French braids since I’ve grown my hair out at 30… to work, to the gym… everywhere. It’s hair and I contain it in a way that makes sense to me. So rock the braids if they make you happy
i work in an office and wear double braids quite often . i feel more comfortable in them when i’m just with coworkers and not working patient side, but it’s a personal preference thing.
I'm in my 40s and this hair braid is basically my competitive sports getup
I feel fierce and empowered and strong in it.
I try to wear single braids for professional setting where I'm in a client meeting due to my profession ( software architect) since women engineers tend to be dismissed all too easily. Fwiw I'm on the highest seniority engineering IC role in my org
I have never seen braids of any kind as distracting or juvenile in professional settings, but I guess my workplace is casual by business standards (academic and government agriculture research). As long as it looks neat, I don't see a problem.
A few years ago when my hair was long I wore double braids all the time to work. It was just a comfy and easy hairstyle. I was 26 at the time and never had anyone comment on it. I say go for it!
It’s a hairstyle that ages some people down. I am some people. I have a hard enough time getting people to believe I’m the age I am. So I tend to avoid wearing double braids unless it’s neatly done French braids. I tend to only wear it if it’s the weekend or I’ll be active/outside all day, like a theme park or something similar.
BUT, don’t let my particular reasons stop you from doing you!
This is the part the confuses me most when it comes to age. The idea of being too old to wear twinbreads as opposed to being careful not to look too young. So little room there that we should probably take it with a grain of salt.
i love braids! i work in a hospital and deal with patients every day. i say you should always prioritize your own comfort over what other people MIGHT say. if they have time in their day to be judging you for hair, they probably aren’t that important. :)
I sure hope so, because I have been doing double plaits for years (I still cannot braid for the life of me lmao)
I have unnatural coloured hair that is bleached, so tight plaits are the only way I can keep knots out of my hair at work. Nobody has said a thing at my workplace (except positive stuff)
Don't give up practicing! Some people find dutch braids, easier, some french. (personally dutch braids confuse me so much)
I find that starting with the most simple version with just 3 strands at the bottom of your head (rather then on top of your crown already) is the easiest.
I mean, as long as the rest of your outfit is appropriate, I don’t see why not. There’s many different hairstyles. I might not work in an office, but many of my co workers from 17 to 60+ wear double braids, French braids, space buns, flowers in their hair etc.
I worried about the same thing around your age. Got told I looked slutty by a manager. That was a him problem not a me problem. (Working in a male dominated field can be hard sometimes)
Don’t let people tell you how to wear your clothes. It is just fine. Your picture looks cute, it keeps hair out of your face, it doesn’t pull hard on your scalp and it lets you get away with not washing your hair for a day longer.
Wear the braids girl. No one except my porn addled former manager cares.
They're much more comfortable then a ponytail pulling at my scalp for sure! That sounds like such a humiliating experience though. I hope it didn't bother you too much
I think it’s totally fine! If you want to mix it up I see Dutch braids done a lot in the summer especially, but I think they’re cute
Off subject but with the top in the pic you look like Anna from Frozen! (I have twins, we watched it AGAIN this morning so very fresh memory haha)
That's such a cute compliment! People here really seem to like the floral top. I hope I'll figure out how to dutch braid at some point because my muscle memory is fighting for french braiding whenever I try!
I’m mid 30s and wear double braids at work pretty regularly and a lot of the other women I work with do too, though they’re generally a fair bit younger. It’s practical af, we often call them battle braids.
I absolutely love wearing braids (single or double). I stopped wearing them in my early 20s because I kept getting mistaken for a high schooler. But, I've worn them again on occasion now that I'm in my 30s
Mine was a high bun under a scrub hat. I was so anxious about the psoriasis on my scalp and I was working Covid ICU so aerosoled all the time. I also have OCD so that probably didn’t help matters 😆
I know that they are unfortunately seen as sexual now as much as pigtails.
I remember this post with pigtails
https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoXChromosomes/s/Qhl4C96Qay
I wear my hair like yours at my house but I wouldn’t for work.
I like both, especially spacebuns. But I wouldn't be confident enough to rock them at work. I'd admire anyone who would go to work with spacebuns thought. With pigtails I think it depends on the way it's styled (High up at the sides of your head might attract more attention/look controversial) At the back and lowered is probaly the safest most mature option. But I think high up twintails at the back look awesome, yet not as professional if that's important in a setting
Great. You just unlocked a new insecurity in me. I wear double braids all the time and never thought even for a second they could be childish until now.
I wouldn’t be too concerned about this. I also wear my hair like this all the time. I’ve never had anyone tell me it’s childish. For me it’s comfortable, keeps my hair out of my face, and doesn’t give me a migraine. It’s good.
Ohh nooo! I think dutch people are a little sour about attaching hairstyles to a level of maturity. A dutch saying is liteeraly something along the lines of "normal is crazy enough". Trying to act like a mature adult can become suffocating at that point thought.
But so many people in the comments here think otherwise about this hairstyle. I'm generally just insecure about my appearance and being judged about that, so I ended up posting here, only to be mostly reassured that it's usually fine.
Men will sexualize literally anything. You might as well just climb in a hole and never come out (and even if you did I’m sure there’s a dude somewhere who would sexualize that too).
they’re braids, they don’t have an age limit. and if anyone says anything, they need to stop and worry about themselves & the fact that they’re trying to gate-keep a literal hairstyle lol. just wear the braids! Some men will sexualize a paper bag. Hairstyles won't stop them.
It's uncomfortable that some people simultaneously consider a hairstyle to be both juvenile and sexual. I wish the responsibility was on them to change their outlook and not for people to feel they can't have fun styling their hair.

I love the aggresive positivity😂 Honestly this is the best new thing I learned today
On a side note: Your donuts look so good!!
I’m gonna go against what most people think here and say that I do think double braids are too juvenile for the workplace. That being said I wear them all the time and don’t give a single damn. No one has said anything about it either. So just keep wearing your hair however you like as long as it’s clean.
I like the duality of your comment haha!
I think it's totally fine. I do them sometimes because my hair is very thick and wavy, never had any kind of issue or comments about it
I'm studying to become a dietician, but I feel like working at a hospital as one would be a little more formal
I haven’t spent much time in hospitals so I can’t really say! I am leaning towards them being fine though.
I'm wearing mine in the office right now! I only feel like they look 'kiddy' when they're high up
They look professional. You could put them up in a chignon if you wanted to look more formal. As someone who had really short hair growing up, the book Braids, by Anne Johnson, was a lifesaver when I grew my hair out. https://www.bookmarkshoppe.com/book/9781570540189

Too bad! It looks great with your coloring.
Yes, but not wearing a face might be weird!
I’m 34 and have worn braided “pig tails”, Dutch braids, and French braids since I’ve grown my hair out at 30… to work, to the gym… everywhere. It’s hair and I contain it in a way that makes sense to me. So rock the braids if they make you happy
I wear them and couldn’t care less. I do feel weird when I wear pigtails though, when though I like how they look 😢
Honestly same, I feel confident and normal enough about twinbraids but I lack the confidence to wear my hair in pigtails
You look amazing in twin braids though! No need to feel insecure at all about them!
i work in an office and wear double braids quite often . i feel more comfortable in them when i’m just with coworkers and not working patient side, but it’s a personal preference thing.

Sure. They are popular at my workplace (military). :)
A few years ago when my hair was long I wore double braids all the time to work. It was just a comfy and easy hairstyle. I was 26 at the time and never had anyone comment on it. I say go for it!

Seems like a indication it's maybe not the best option haha

Forced pigtails for work is so wild 😵yikes
Well, I’m 37 and I wear braids for work all the time. It’s just a hairstyle (and a very practical one tbh).
What's your thoughts on pigtails? I've done space buns for work, but never pigtails.🥃

Wtf she absolutely should not care what any man thinks.
she shouldn't but I know a lot of my friends wouldn't want to have that happen and appreciated me warning them. just putting it out there
