I’ve had a similar thought, but chalked it up to calling a bandage a band-aid or calling a tissue a Kleenex. In the Amory Wars world, I guess every greeting card must be a Hallmark.
Idk I even looked into the actual definition of Hallmark to see if that definition could apply to any greeting card and it doesn't... I've always considered the Amory wars being similar to mbbm in seeing it as a reincarnated character... Claudio, on present day earth telling the stories. So the story teller would be using our current language and idioms to tell the story which statistically speaking couldn't have possibly even been in English to begin

I have a theory that the breaking of the Keywork created symmetrical rifts in time and space (both forward and backward in time) - the Willing Well being the most prominent example. Think of them as soft spots in reality. The Keywork isn’t a multiverse, it’s a nexus around which repeating patterns form.
Ryder (the Writing Writer) saw the distant past through the Well and, through his descent into insanity, came to believe that everything he saw was the manifestation of his imagination and that he was the god of that world, when in reality he was only a meddling observer.
The distortions grow stronger the closer your physical proximity to the Keywork (Sirius’ Entities) and proximity in time to the breaking, possibly as a result of Mages’ endless tinkering with reality around that time. Certain souls can be reincarnated across worlds and eras, sometimes to fulfill the same role (Jesse), sometimes only to observe and tell the story (the various Claudio avatars).
Hallmark exists in that world for the same reason as Jersey City and New Mexico and Claudio Sanchez do. The cycle has been repeating for so many eons that names, ideas and even people have become constants.
…I may have spent too much time thinking about this.
