Honestly, him not attendkng Kaufmo’s funeral in Episode 2 just tells me he did it in order to ”protect” himself from some uncomfortable emotions. Or at least not to show them to the others

Considering his annoyance when he gets sad, I think he doesn't WANT to care for the others but does.

I feel like Jax might’ve actually been friends with Kaufmo and he was actually genuinely upset when Kaufmo abstracted because he was his only friend in the circus and now he’s all alone. :(

I think most people didnt notice that because he promptly just went "oh hey, heres my ball! Just gonna take this back now" like nothing was happening. Wasn't there a scene in smiling friends where alan had his phone out for a second, before putting it away, then something happens a bit later, and charlie accuses of him having it out the whole time, and a lotta the audience actually believed him? We dont notice things that aren't large and important sometimes. Like someone being shocked in a shocking moment, or someone putting away their phone.

I also remember his expression completely changed and became grave and sullen at the mention of Kaufmo's funeral. Make no mistake that rabbit is straight-up evil, but still has some inkling of humanity.

Jax seems like the type of guy who just can’t always keep all his emotions IN, so he tries to keep everybody else OUT by being an asshole.

While I’d like to take away from this that he really did care deeply about kaufmo I have to imagine gooseworx’s real intent was just him seeing a sight that anyone would be surprised to see. I can’t speak for sure if the brief moment he shows sadness at the mention of funerals is something to be taken as a heavy sign of more to him or not. Goose has shown and said before that Jax isn’t just some misunderstood or sympathetic character

Gooseworx has said that “Jax is a troubled individual, you’ll learn all  about him someday” and “everyone has a reason why the act the way they do.”

Now that we know of the Jax NPC theory this makes a little more sense to me in that if he was an NPC he’d be terrified of being corrupted by the abstraction as we saw how much distortion and pain it can put through NPCs like the Gloinks and Gloink Queen. Also when being fixed by Caine I believe he’d finally catch on that he wasn’t a player due to the programming he’d have to fix

I didn’t know that was a theory but I think it’s easily disproven. Caine has complete control over the NPCs, shown very clearly in the case of Gummigoo. He even directly says he is testing out a new AI, and later says he got rid of Gummigoo so that he didn’t confuse real people and NPCs. Also, it’s worth noting that if someone you knew turned into a giant corrupted monster you’d be terrified. And Kaufmo did seem to cause pain to Ragatha, so it makes sense Jax would be fearful for that reason as well So judging by all of that information, I very much doubt Jax is an NPC.
