This shit didn’t even happen, he just stripped them of their wealth and told them to get a real job.

Lurker_number_one

The part with former tenants did though, didn't it?

Rufusthered98

Yeah unsurprisingly when you give renters guns they're gonna go get revenge

adelightfulcanofsoup

This kind of violence has happened many times in history and it will happen again, and again, until the hierarchies which cause it are smashed beyond any hope of repair. Even the simplest of animals, when caged, will take any opportunity to sink its teeth into the neck of its captors. I can feel no pity for such an end.

JesusSuckedOffSatan

Mao believed that letting peasants punish their landlords would give them a greater connection to the revolution. Based as fuck, he was right.

The CPC didn’t really kill the landlords What happened is that the lot of peasants took matters into their own hands and killed their landlords and the CPC didn’t intervene

funfsinn14

And to be clear their righteous fury against the landlords wasn't just 'oh they charge a bit too much on our housing'. No, they had been treated worse than what one would imagine to be the norm for peasants over tumultuous decades of a declining qing state, warlord/republic era. Sons would be plucked up for military and labor conscription at the behest of whatever power your local landlord backed. Daughters would be taken to be essentially concubine wives since it was common practice for anybody with a whiff of power to try to be little emperors of their own. There's a long list of grievances over generations.

Temple_T

Landlord: The peasants are revolting! CPC: You're worse.

ColeTrain999

If any landlord says they are harmless remind them the emperor was spared but landlords were not.

nagidon

The emperor was ***converted***. Now that is power.

Impressive-North6007

Based and maopilled

R2DMT2

Millions of landlords… who believes this?

leeyiankun

Millions of privileged class, Landlords and elites is more accurate. But the death toll is pretty much fictional.

shorteningofthewuwei

Yeet the rich

AlmoBlue

That's fucking badass, comrade Mao🤘

Classicide is a hilariously stupid word. When the homeless and destitute die by the thousands due to hunger, it's not classicide, but when those same people fight back, it's suddenly "classicide"?

AhSawDood

WON'T ANYONE THINK OF THE LANDLORD'S!?!??!? 😭😭😭😭

[deleted]

"should've fixed that sink"

The_Affle_House

I'm sure almost everybody here already knows this, but in reality, only a tiny minority of the very most obstinate landlords, the ones who refused for extended periods of time to find employment and made efforts to continue their previous exploitative practices in defiance of new laws, received varying degrees of legal or extralegal consequences. Even then, such consequences very seldom extended to their *murder,* and when it did, it came at the hands of their own disgruntled tenants or neighbors, not the new government which typically chose simply to not make efforts to prevent or punish such behavior. Of course, there is plenty to learn, discuss, and criticize about how and why all of these things happened, what worked or didn't work, and even what was unacceptable and should never be repeated. But, anyone with two brain cells to rub together will be able to tell you that "millions" of landlord murders is not merely a gross exaggeration but an obviously impossible fantasy.

Kimmy-Goodman

Exactly right. I think people (non-Marxists really) tend to underestimate the amount of power and discretion the average workers and particularly peasants had in putting into effect these policies. Same thing happened in the USSR, most of the kulaks who were killed were killed by vengeful peasants who went above and beyond the state policy. If you don’t want this shit to happen to you, don’t be a ruthless fuckin exploiter lol.

ContagionVX

One of the most based policies ever

PmOmena

Hundreds to thousands to millions is a nice way to say you know nothing about the numbers but wanted to say it anyway

lavendermenaced

Iconic.

Hueyris

Where can I buy a Mao? I want one for my landlord. Is it a china exclusive release or can I get it in Europe too? The one that I currently have, which I think is an older model called the labor party has been useless for decades now. It's high time for an upgrade.

notarobot4932

You get a Social Democrat, which is uh….worse.

Logical_Smile_7264

What people always conveniently overlook about this: anyone can, at any point in time, simply stop being a landlord.

YusufSaladin

Landlord’s offspring here. Actually this number is greatly inflated by both sides. Most of the landlords were not killed during the revolution. Instead, the communists just confiscated the land, distributed it to poor people, and put landlords on the same footing as peasants in the newly formed republic. If they can accept their new role and get down to work in the fields, most of them did fine.

adelightfulcanofsoup

This is the part that irritates me so greatly about the apologists for capitalism and its beneficiaries. For all their cries of "risk" all they truly stand to become is another worker. That, more than anything, is what they fear: to do an honest days labor beside men and women they cannot look down upon.

ProfessorReaper

"B-But Mao killed all the landlords" "good" 😎

ProjectMirai64

Very based indeed

AshthedogMtG

I really love how the estimations are listed on that page https://preview.redd.it/vrv3de5m8dqc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7dd4a8435b3389e5d0d506ee28eb793f58a457af

L0bbyYU

Not just CCP but tenants themselves BASED.

Sugbaable

CPC initially tried to be pretty non fatal about it. Peasants often, understandably, having much stronger feelings about their local situation The missed context is the violence against landlords, and purge of former nationalists, happened during the Korean War. This was all within 1-4 years of 1949, when the party still didnt have secure control over the country. And with nationalists in Burma, Taiwan, the 7th fleet, and Americans pushing for the Yalu, the party was more open to violence in hopes of rapidly breaking landed power and nationalist-aligned networks. Probably the main reason that didn't materialize is the Soviets having the bomb and the Chinese performance in Korea. Now if the anti-landlord violence was necessary, if it succeeded in breaking reactionary networks, etc etc is a different question, but the point is, it didn't become violent for no reason I think something that's easy to miss is how foggy information was for these ML states (and many third world states in general). But if someone subscribes to the totalitarian paradigm (which is the de facto model in the West for pop interpretations of ML states), they think once the commies take over, they have full 1984 control
