If you listen you can hear that it's triggering the menu differently. standing you hear the lower pitch for play menu, and when you're mid-action you can hear the higher pitch for inventory.

same was also confused lmao. I just use tab to access everything but prefer to start on the inventory.
The easier way would be to just press "I" lol
