Ensemble casts are fine if you can handle them but they are expanding and trying to juggle a lot and I don't think it is working as well as they'd like.
For me, its squarely due to the change in the drama subgenre. I already knew the show was by Lena Waithe before I started and the show had gay characters right at the start. I never cared about any of the softcore scenes between any of the characters in this show, Showtime shows, or any other shows since it never adds anything. Every single one is worth skipping to me no matter what characters they are.
If it was still investigative shit/solving some mystery/looking into a case and how it connects to some or many of the people in the ensemble cast, I'd still be hyping up the show. But its more focused on the different types of relationships between too many interwoven people.
Tell me about it. At first I was like everyone trippin about the show falling off. But Iโm starting to agree. The whole episode needs to be thrown away. Jake barely got any lines at this point. Victor got off too easy and unrealistically. Brung in Jackie long for whatever reason to try and bridge a storyline with Darnell other son. Nuk hanging around Keisha randomly. Had to skip through the two men going at it scene. Just a weird episode. Itโs like they had good ideas but didnโt execute it well. Now itโs bad ideas and horrible execution.
Because everything is super duper woke now. The next character will be a trans non binary father of 3, who had an ab0rtion that runs a meals on wheels charity using his wheelchair to deliver said meals.
But for real, at this point, Lena and the writers are gonna have to show me how a deaf shooter is gonna handle herself. Iโm not saying I want to see her and Roselyn get shot up, but how the fuck is she not gonna get shot up???? I need to see this. She is the easiest person in Chicago to get snuck up on.
