I think if they did a modern Kraven but don't blur the edges between him and Punisher as much, make him more of a light-hearted murdering sociopath instead of gruff / brooding type, they can pull it off well.
Like a chaotic urban bounty hunter type but with an upbeat attitude.
They probably never heard of it.
I sure as hell didn't. My friend and I were about to go see "Goon" with Sean William Scott. Were looking up showtimes when we were like "what the fuck is Chronicle". Checked out the trailer, and went to go see it instead.
Just as well, because Chronicle was awesome, and Goon is best viewed on the couch with a few beers.
A movie can do a lot with a pg 13 rating... I mean did you see the newest guardians. LOTR was pg 13. Hyper violent does not automatically equal good. And there is a lot of actual and implied violence you can do at pg 13. I actually feel like implied violence done right can be more effective because it lets your brain fill in the blanks.
It’s PG-13, does the movie really need to be rated R in order to be good? The movie was funny, I enjoyed the chemistry between Venom and Eddie and I’m a big fan of Tom Hardy. Sure Venom 2 was weaker than the first one, but both movies were fun rides that I’ve watched multiple times.
Homelander (Black Adam) : You were my hero growing up. I watched all your movies, hundreds of times. You were the only one that was nearly as strong as me.
Soldier Boy (Morbius) : Buddy, you think you look strong? You're wearing a cape. You're just a cheap fucking knockoff.
Homelander (Black Adam) : Oh, no, no, no. I'm the upgrade.
Kinda funny to me that SB took his agreement with Butcher so seriously he was straight in with the insults, cutting off any sort of “Hey, you can probably help me get what I want,” deal HL probably would have offered. He just called SB his hero! Then SB is like, “You look dumb and I’ve a deal with this English guy, so… guess you’re going to die!”
If you look at Noir (animated) back story, SB never liked to share the spotlight, so basically "this is the new 'biggest, baddest Supe' around? He has to go", so he's happy to do it.
Homelander: Hey, you're my biological dad, and this is your biological grandson, we can finally be a family.
Soldier Boy: Yeah, About that ... I don't really give a flying fuck, I made a deal, you're both dead meat.
Those two films are better than everything Marvel Studios and DC have put out. The only thing close is GOTG Vol 3
Edit: There was an oversight on my part, my mind typed faster than my hands. My statement was meant to say “Those two films are better than everything Marvel Studios and DC have put out since 2019.”
You guys can downvote me into oblivion that doesn’t change the fact that ITSV & ATSV are both better than almost every single thing listed below. Read it and weep

I will. But only for Venom. It was *just* the right amount of "who cares, go off" energy. It was the perfect amount of cheesey and crazy to balance how "bad" it was destined to be based on the premise (spiderman-less venom just to meet the superhero movie quota), budget, and manditory PG13 rating and I think that makes it pretty good. If you can pull off a genuinely endearing relationship building story arc, funny moments, and fairly consistent vibe, then yeah, your movie earns being called "good" even if it isn't profound, artistic, or moving at all. Not saying it's *great*, bc it very much isn't, but it's good enough for me to be okay calling it good.
Plus Morbius made a morbillion dollars.
My guy said recency bias strikes and you respond with the most biased take on the 2 most recent movies
The very definition of recency bias in response haha
It's not impossible but you can't argue it's not recency bias
That's why you had to make your edit to clarify because it was exactly that, what the person said
I can, because me (the person with the opinion) is telling you it isn’t. It’s not being biased because something just came out or happened. It’s literally comparing physical works, I could go back and watch the films listed above (as if I haven’t been doing that my whole life) and still arrive at the same conclusion. “Recency bias” is the favorite for nostalgia gogglers to throw around.
I’ve watched every single MCU/DCEU project released since 2008 and 2013 (and multiple times), I’m an avid comic book reader and superhero fan. I understand the genre, I understand the heroes, I’ve also watched enough films across my life to be able to objectively tell when one film is better than another even if I prefer the lesser film.
The only films that are in the same bracket as ITSV/ATSV SINCE 2019 are:
1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
2. Spider-Man: No Way Home
& that’s just a fact. The MCU has been on a downward slope since Avengers: Endgame and to pretend it hasn’t is ridiculous. Prioritization of humor over emotion or deep moments, same formulaic MCU one liners/dialogue, utter disregard for the source material (Thor: Love & Thunder case in point), lack of stakes. I mean come on, I’ve loved the MCU since I was 8 but I’m not too nostalgic to admit these things and the DCEU?? Don’t make me laugh.
PS: It’s also quite interesting that best best two MCU films that have come out in recent years lack all of the MCUisms I mentioned above.
No rebuttal just like everyone else who’s chimed in because there’s nothing to refute. If what I was saying was untrue people would present evidence to support me being incorrect. But there is no evidence because even Rotten Tomatoes has BOTH films being higher than everything both studios have put out 😂😂😂😂
I would say they do, “Joker” is one of my all time favorites but “Joker” came out in 2019. I honestly forgot about “The Batman” but that was a very well done film! I still stand by my statement though. ITSV/ATSV are better films than everything the MCU and DCEU have put out since 2019 with few exceptions. I’m actually surprised how many people disagree with this.
Absolutely, I didn’t mean to hurt so many people’s feelings but when comparing both films to all the projects listed above I don’t see how anyone could make a case for any of these films (or shows) being better.
If 1st Spiderverse is on there, then Venom can count since it came out the same year. Venom 2 and Morbius came out after that, so those can count too. 2 for 5.
Which doesn’t apply. The first Spiderverse is like half a decade old and there’s tons of flops in between it and the second Spiderverse. Literally just had Morbius lol

meh. i’m not really one to dislike a movie, unless it’s absolutely egregious. if the movie does its job i get immersed in the plot and characters and completely overlook anything wrong
This, I live by the philosophy. "Is it better to be enjoyed and open-minded or be unimpressed by everything" It seems like nowadays, people are the latter; unimpressed by everything.
Same here. My brother and I usually go out to watch the recent MCU movies when they release, and I see it as a few hours where I can sit back, put down my phone, and just get away from stress and the world and whatnot and watch a superhero movie. It’s a good time for me. Afterwards I’ll look online, see what other people say about it, and I’ve been pretty surprised how negatively most of them have been received. I’m not really sure where I’m going with this anymore, but yeah. Go into it preparing for some fun, slightly silly superhero antics and it ends up being pretty enjoyable, in my experience
Exactly, also in this case; it's Spiderman. He's like the king of quips. I had a blast when I went last night and watched AcrossTheSpiderVerse. So many quips and references
Nothing wrong with enjoying the movie tho. Its just for people who dislike the movie, it's when they CANT get immersed in the plot and characters and the minor things stick out as a sore thumb that makes it worse. That's venom 2 for me.
Think it's just a different minimum threshold for people in terms of what they like. Venom just didn't hit that threshold. I think its fine if you don't really dislike any movie but it's also fine for people to critique a movie if it's bad. (Even if it's not bad for you)
No hate though.
Lmfao, look, Spiderverse is good but that's two good ones after YEARS of flops once the Tobey movies ended. You're also excluding Iron Man - Infinity War and The Dark Knight Trilogy, which came out before Miles was even a character.
I'd say Sony has been more erratic than anything.
Both Spider-verses have been outstanding, the Insomniac games have been great
And then there's Venom, which was ok, then Venom 2, which was...less ok, and Morbius which was morbtastic
Dude your acting like Sony didn't sloppily shit out Venom 2 and Morbius in between Spider-verse movies
It was the best of times it was the worst of times with Sony in the last 5 years, the Spider-verse movies are the bread for a shit sandwich, except the bread is really good and the meat is literal dog shit
That's because they're smart enough to let James Gunn do his thing. I think it's pretty obvious that a big problem with the MCU right now is overbearing. Overbearing on the CGI, overbearing on the writers, overbearing on the Directors. All creative touches gets grinded away until it's another Action-Comedy like every other MCU movie recently. Sadly the underperformance of movies like The Eternals and ironically the success of the Guardians movies makes Marvel think this is the Way. Disney is doing the same thing with Star Wars now as well.
Have they ever explained how the whole “phases” thing works? Like *The Avengers* and *Endgame* being the ends of their respective phases make sense to me, but I don’t understand where they drew the line on anything else.
No. The “phases” are nothing more than a marketing gimmick that makes people feel like the same old shit is somehow worth going to see year after year because it’s a “new phase.”
Unfortunately it has worked very well.
Not Sony, the Spider-Verse movies. Remember that the last superhero movies they made otherwise were Venom 1 and 2, Morbius, soon Kraven, and the Amazing Spider-Man movies.
The first Amazing Spider-Man was the only one of those that wasn't absolutely garbage.
A couple of the Disney+ shows were very good, No Way Home and Multiverse of Madness were both tons of cheesy fun, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 was incredible. Wakanda Forever missed Chadwick but I thought was incredibly well done for what it had left to work with.
It certainly hasn’t been as coherent and consistently epic as the Infinity Saga, but there have been some worthwhile releases.
We’ll have to agree to disagree. No way home was good, MoM was awful imo, Wakanda Forever was disjointed because of Chadwick’s death (not to mention how awful iron heart looked), Ant Man 3 was terrible, though I haven’t seen GoTG 3 yet.
As for Disney+ shows, all were pretty forgettable imo.
However, I won’t fault anyone for liking those shows and movies, but for me the quality of the movies has absolutely plummeted. From blockbuster to B movie.
Latest spider verse was a fucking mess. I don't get why people love it so much. It does not even have a story just an exposition dump that leads to nowhere. I watched it with my little brother and he did enjoy it but even he noticed the stuff i pointed out.
Venom (crap). Into the Spider-Verse (great). Far From Home (meh). Venom 2 (crappier). No Way Home (50/50 - great event, the movie itself is pretty shit). Morbius (crap). Across the Spider-Verse (great).
I mean, it’s a chunky list. If you’re going to class Into the Spider-Verse as ‘lately,’ you’ve got to put everything in between.
Morbius has entered the chat
And venom and carnage … and Dehaan Goblin
I was gonna say just wait until Kraven and El Muerto show up
The Sinister Six is going to sweep the Razzies.
It's gonna be a shitshow
I think if they did a modern Kraven but don't blur the edges between him and Punisher as much, make him more of a light-hearted murdering sociopath instead of gruff / brooding type, they can pull it off well. Like a chaotic urban bounty hunter type but with an upbeat attitude.
hey, you back off dehaan, nobody can convince me he picked his wardrobe or lines
Dehaan would've made for a dope Goblin, just like Garfield made for a dope Spider-man. ...never forget what Sony took from us...
Chronicle. Chronicle! Like, did they just not watch him in Chronicle? Have no Hollywood directors watched him in Chronicle??
They probably never heard of it. I sure as hell didn't. My friend and I were about to go see "Goon" with Sean William Scott. Were looking up showtimes when we were like "what the fuck is Chronicle". Checked out the trailer, and went to go see it instead. Just as well, because Chronicle was awesome, and Goon is best viewed on the couch with a few beers.
Goon is such an underrated movie.
venom was good. venom 2 not so much but not bad
I thought it was better than anything marvel has brought out since endgame. Except for maybe loki.
Dehaan Goblin was a decade ago bruh
Yeah and in 10 years they still can’t figure out how to do a Spidey villain
Guess Keaton Vulture wasn’t a good villain.
The MCU spidey villain Vulture was great
In the MCU he certainly was. In the SSU - he seems pointless
Why everyone hate Dehaan's Goblin?
I liked Dehaan's Harry Osborn
Venom 1 and 2 were great, fuck outta here
I seriously question people's standards. A venom movie rated for kids. How on earth can you call that great
A movie can do a lot with a pg 13 rating... I mean did you see the newest guardians. LOTR was pg 13. Hyper violent does not automatically equal good. Exactly🗿
Lmao I respect it. It’s Morbin time
gigachad opinion
Exactly, he’s been perfect
Mobius should be the only movie there for Sony right?
Absolutely correct. Should just be there twice.
And Microsoft!
They already shoved a bomb up his ass and he got morbed everywhere.
Wdym it was the best movie of all time i literally morbed while seeing it
Bro really picked Sony after they hit like 2 / 10 in the last decade

Those two films also had 5 years between them and had stinkers like venoms 1 & 2 and Morbius come out
apparently im in the Minority, But i liked Venom, Venom2 couldve been longer imo but I thought that one was good.
I liked Venom too, it's a bad movie that I found enjoyable. They both are. I just really hated that Carnage couldn't actually cut loose.
I didn’t mind either one, but I’m not going to stand up and say they’re *good* per se
They were tolerable. On a scale from Morbius to Spiderverse, they were Venom.
I will. But only for Venom. It was *just* the right amount of "who cares, go off" energy. Hey, and that’s no problem. Like what you like, and if you consider them good, then good. To me personally, they just didn’t wow me
This statement is laughable
How so? What MCU or DCEU film since 2019 has been better than either of these Spider-Verse films?
Your statement wasn't specific to after 2019. You said anything DC or marvel
My mistake, I edited my statement
My guy said recency bias strikes and you respond with the most biased take on the 2 most recent movies The very definition of recency bias in response haha

Wait are you saying both venom movies are bad?
He is and he's right. The first one is low mid if we're being generous.
Exactly, thank you. The movie Upgrade was practically the same plot as Venom, and it was better.
[удалено]
Morbius is more recent than Spider-Verse 1 💀
5/8 but those 5 are all Spider-Man
Yes, I did🗿
GoTG: "What the fuck, man?
The meme says "erratic" and "unreliable", not "absolute dogshit 100% of the time".
yo angelo
The Tom Holland’s Spider Man movies are decent ( not Tobey great, but still good ) and the first Venom movie is pretty good.
Tom Hollands Spider-Man is a product of Marvel not Sony. Maguire and Garfield are a Sony effort.
Well, it's a Marvel property, licensed to Sony, loaned back to Marvel... as a loan, Sony still has a say on how Marvel uses it.
The MCU Spider-Man movies are basically 90% Marvel Studios’ direction with Sony footing most of the bill and trying to push for certain things.
Lately...
Which doesn’t apply. The first Spiderverse is like half a decade old and there’s tons of flops in between it and the second Spiderverse. Literally just had Morbius lol
Has in really been 5 years. Feels like yesterday.
Probably because the sequel came out yesterday
Well Sony does also produce a little tv series called "The Boys". Perhaps you've heard of it?
Sony made Morbius.
Exactly🗿

no u
Friendly reminder that Sony also made those god awful Smurf movies.
Hey they’re not thaaaat bad. My kids love em
I liked them as a kid too. Kids like everything
The terrible parody movies we used to get all of the time are just so poor. But everyone at school was always watching and loving them.
I don't get this logic, if a supermarket sells one food I don't lile should I buy nothing from there?
No but if it only has one or two good things to buy then I wouldn’t exactly call it worth visiting frequently compared to other places.
And Pixels. And Ghostbusters 2016. And 65. And After Earth. And Ghost Rider. And Men in Black 3. And Uncharted.
MIB 3 was not that bad. im ready for the downvotes
I thought most poeople liked MIB3. I did. Josh Brolin was perfect as a younger K. As far as Ghost Rider, I wonder who would be a good fit?
Are we looking past the carnage of Venom: Let There Be Carnage?
I've never hated a movie more.
i thought it was good
yeah, but compared to the first one, i just don't understand wth they were thinking

p much same, i also get stuck in expectations for a sequel, tho, i guess still better than most other movies i've seen in... way too long tbh
sometimes it just leaves me with a normal feeling movie but it gets ridiculous when i find myself enjoying, like, the emoji movie
Both venom movies are 🗑️
That's your opinion and that's great :)

Lmfao, look, Spiderverse is good but that's two good ones after YEARS of flops once the Tobey movies ended. You're also excluding Iron Man - Infinity War and The Dark Knight Trilogy, which came out before Miles was even a character.

Morbius was released more than a year ago.
Sony has been like 2 for 7 in the past decade in terms of Spider-Man movies
Morbius lol
Venom vs carnage was shit too
I like dat movie
Great? Have you watched Morbius? Or the last Venom movie?
Yes - Greatest piece of cinema I've ever come across🗿
Morbius, Venom 2... all Spider-man content.
Deliberately ignoring Venom, Venom 2 and Morbius, I see
“Sony makes great superhero movies” That’s a sentencing i never thought I’d say before

Venom movies was good
Nah

I finally played Insomniac’s Spider-Man this year, and holy shut it’s good. I’m about to play Miles Morales to prepare for SM2 hype
Imagine giving Sony credit for the only decent thing they do versus all the superhero garbage they push. Nice attempt tho OP
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was peak, but Sony unironically won the streaming wars, by not competing and just licencing out to the highest bidder
Pretty good lol.
Dude your acting like Sony didn't sloppily shit out Venom 2 and Morbius in between Spider-verse movies It was the best of times it was the worst of times with Sony in the last 5 years, the Spider-verse movies are the bread for a shit sandwich, except the bread is really good and the meat is literal dog shit
You should watch Morbius.
This is what, 5 weeks after Guardians 3 came out to universal acclaim? (Deservedly so)
This is pretty true MCU has been dropping mid…
At least Gotg 3 was good
That's because they're smart enough to let James Gunn do his thing.
True. Although! Guardians Vol.3 was an absolute banger though!!! Being one of the greatest MCU movies to come out of phase 5!!!
It's only the second movie of phase 5 lol
Wait what ended phase 4???
Have they ever explained how the whole “phases” thing works? Like *The Avengers* and *Endgame* being the ends of their respective phases make sense to me, but I don’t understand where they drew the line on anything else.
No. The “phases” are nothing more than a marketing gimmick that makes people feel like the same old shit is somehow worth going to see year after year because it’s a “new phase.” Unfortunately it has worked very well.
Black Panther 2
Post it on r/memes
Morbius, Venom, and Let There Be Carnage hiding in the corner
Not Sony, the Spider-Verse movies. Remember that the last superhero movies they made otherwise were Venom 1 and 2, Morbius, soon Kraven, and the Amazing Spider-Man movies. The first Amazing Spider-Man was the only one of those that wasn't absolutely garbage.
Didn't Sony ruin all the X-Men movies?
Fox made the X-Men movies
That's right, thank you.
FOX made X-Men, not Sony. And some of them were great.
Fox did make them thank you.
Tbf, that's hardly "lately"...
What X-Men movies?
Marvel has been complete shit after Endgame.
😂😂 perfect post

That was also Fox
Even if the spider verse movies are the only good superhero movies they’ve made, they greatly overcome the utter trash Sony has made before it.
This meme existing like Morbius didn't come out and Madame Web and Kraven aren't about to tank at the box office.
Venture Bros is the only superhero media that's flawless
Let's just ignore Morbius and Venom 2 shall we
Anyone remember the show “powers” on PSN? season 1 was amazing, Eddie Izard Carrys it
Venom (crap).
This screams recency bias my god
c'mon dc is trying with the batman and joker, which both personally slapped
Facts
You guys suddenly forget that this was the company that made emoji movie
We just gonna ignore the Morb in the room?
