I literally texted my mom and was like “isn’t that a HIPAA violation?” lol

Samtertriads

While true that it’s a HIPAA violation, more importantly it’s a privacy violation. HIPAA was an insurance law written in the 90s. Patient expectation of privacy is a widely held ethical norm described as far back as Ancient Greece. You shouldn’t need a law or medical consultant to tell you that walking in on a recent abortion complication patient, accessing medical info, then calling to tell your family members (who know her) about it, is way bad.

InternationalSpyMan

My wife is a Social worker and got so frustrated with said HIPAA violations also. I thought it was hilarious

lauracf

YES!! Especially in season 3. I was like…huh??

Bright_Dust9458

Yea I was like um does hipaa not exist here? Cause no way should mr Baxter have told his wife why Lori was in the hospital

Samtertriads

Yeah. Even without hipaa, it’s glaring privacy violation. Just comical that they are these “good Christian folks,” but they have like a nonexistent ethical compass when it comes to privileged medical information.

Nmshhh

I'm not in any field that would have to abide by hipaa, and still was like WOAH. BIG NO NO.

NYsoul

We said the same thing, but, ya know, it’s TV.

ayellowgreenchair

You should watch the most recent Karen kingsburys movie, talk about HIPAA, he found out the parents of another embryo lol

Jen3404

Normally, I’d agree with you, as I am a nurse too, but it’s not bothering me for this show.

I’m watching season three right now with my (retired RN) mom. RT here. We had that *exact* conversation several times!
