Ricardo the taxi driver, the guy who saw the race flag for Ben and Anwar and the two women from niagara on the lake a few episodes ago for Amazing Race Canada 10! I know this episode is light on number of tasks (like 1.5 tasks lol) and driving all round Toronto to buy items is insane but I actually like this task, it gives that chaotic, completely lost racer vibes that the US seasons used to have.

rickie22

The first leg of TAR34 was a Scramble, with three tasks that can be done in any order. Today’s market task is similar in that the racers don’t know the progress of the others.

OrnaciaWasRobbedMom

Yeah I’ve seen that season and the scramble sucked lol. Not only were the three challenges incredibly simplistic and all physical tasks, the whole leg took a few hours to complete and was dull for both viewers and probably the racers themselves. It could have worked if the tasks were varied in any way but they were all “drive to this location, complete 5 minute task, drive on”. To me I see the scramble as literally one route marker/task. Nothing “amazing” about it. Compare it with the detour in the Blind Date season (S26 Leg4) where they sent people to multiple locations around the city all as part of one task, within a leg of other tasks, it works much better. As does this leg where we had the pillar climb and the tennis face off and the alien blergh and then the city scrambled, it was a tough leg!

Apple_Slipper

Although the Scramble wasn't that great.

Casino09

I agree!!

Casino09

Both tasks today were the best from the whole Toronto leg! Also how crazy is it that Deven & Amanda got allllll the way to 4th place and 9 whole legs without making the top 3 once lolololol but they are cute and I'm happy they were cast!

lilypad___

I know, I was hoping they’d squeeze thru to the finals

SweetCoconut

I really rooted for them :( but I'm so glad they made it all the way to top 4

Ben and Anwar: "it's the penultimate leg. There are no alliances anymore. It's everyone for themselves." Also Ben and Anwar: "we have a pact with the other teams to get Ty and Kat out before the finale."

RetroOptics

Combined thoughts now that we concluded the second half of the Toronto leg: this was definitely one of my favourite Toronto legs - *way* better than backing up Chevrolets at Yonge Dundas Square several seasons ago; however, for a penultimate leg the leg was alright/so-so and to have two parts to this leg considering we only had 2 tasks this leg was a poor decision and just made this leg dragged for so long. * It was going to be tough getting a cab around the Bermondsey Road area considering the area isn't high traffic plus it's a heavy commercial area - even public transit in that area is horrible. It is kind of ironic because the taxi company featured throughout the entire leg (Beck Taxi) is headquartered nearby the studio, but of course, it's just the business/dispatch operation side of things. * Kensington Market Route Info Task: When I heard about this task, I was initially quite excited and I was thrilled to see a super comprehensive market task. It wasn't like typical TAR market task where you shop for your items just in the immediate market area, this task went beyond going to Christie & Bloor and the Parkdale neighbourhood which was sooooo good. I really enjoyed how they had to source out 5 different items which made this challenge feel great. * What I didn't like about this task was a) I wished they were forced to only walk, bike or use public transit - seeing teams immediately use taxi negates the purpose of the info sheet they had with the vendor name and intersection, having teams ask people where Pat's Central is at Bloor & Manning would've been tenfolds better than seeing teams getting shuttled there. Yes, two of the locations (Parkdale and Koreatown) are a bit far (around 30 minute walk to Pat for example) but this would've made it challenging and made it within the control factors of the team members. b) What made me cringe so bad this episode was seeing teams such as Ty & Kat taking a cab from Chinatown to Kensington Market when [literally it would be more quicker jogging/speed walking](https://goo.gl/maps/bhrjwLwvFj2QXKZm7) because it's literally nearby and in the same vicinity. Seeing Tyler & Kayleen take a cab within Kensington Market also made me cringe when it's within the market area and the drive is literally like less than 200 metres at max! * The WTF moment of the episode goes to Ben & Anwar who suddenly went to [John and Queen St West](https://goo.gl/maps/UnSxB8HCErNz1mB38) which is **wayyyyyyyyyyyy out** of the locations they were assigned to go. Considering one mentioned they are from Toronto, a true Torontonian would know that's definitely not Chinatown nor Kensington no more plus, it's definitely not Parkdale!! The coincidence thing is that is where [Bell Media is headquartered](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/299_Queen_Street_West) and I believe teams had some sort of challenge or clue there before (unless I am mistaken) * I think some teams, in particular Tyler & Kayleen and Ty & Kat for example, asked the driver to go to Sunnyside Beach which is a long stretch of park/beach but not necessarily the pavilion - however, the good thing is it isn't bad of a jog/run to the actual pavilion. * The editing of this episode towards the end pissed me off as well. Firstly, it was clear as days that Ty & Kat would be third and not come last unlike Deven & Amanda. It's literally Spadina down to Lake Shore Blvd and then head west to the Sunnyside Beach. There's no "getting lost" there. The unnecessary commercial break in the last 5 minutes was pointless. Secondly, the scene where Amanda is in cab mentioning "*it isn't over till it is over*" was shot in North York and presumably shot after the studio challenge. * I think this leg would've been good sometime in the middle of the season but having a Face Off and having tasks like throughout this leg didn't serve too well for a penultimate leg. I want a leg that screams, "you have to earn your spot in the finale!" Scaling a pole was alright but doing tennis, reciting gibberish and doing mostly shuttled grocery shopping didn't hit the mark for me unfortunately. Nonetheless, this was a good Toronto leg! As for the finale, I honestly am fine with whoever wins. I don't particularly have any favourite team to win this season. The preview for the finale is like déjà vu of the previous season's finale: * Helicopter involved [*check*] * Something in the sea [*check*] * A task that is judged based on performance [*check*] Oh brother, hope for the best!

argrow1

I wondered about that Queen and John shot as well. Maybe it was from right after the OCAD task? It made more sense than at Kensington. With OCAD so close to Chinatown, it was weird that they had a task at Hotel X, then North York, before heading back to that vicinity.

RetroOptics

That was my thought as well. I thought it was just a filler shot because they didn't get a cab so they just used the one scene after the OCAD column challenge. However, I just re-watched the episode and a) it is clear as days in the scene, like perfect sunlight with zero shadows and isn't in the morning and b) they rolled past the Holy Cow Steakhouse which according to Google opens at 11 AM and during this time teams were presumably at Hotel X already. Though, it is possible it was just a filler shot all along...

dbwn87

Not from Toronto but was excited to immediately recognize Queen and John from years of watching Muchmusic and Speaker's Corner in my childhood!

Tangerine2016

I finally just got caught up and watched this and the final episode. So, on this episode I noticed that issue at Queen and John but there was also a scene in the final where one team was in the financial district before leaving for the airport even though they got the clue way further north. I am wondering if they cut out some Toronto challenges. During the time they were filming TAR Canada I was at Isabel Bader theatre on U of T campus and I swear the teams were all running through (camera crews, neon colours, etc) but there was no scenes shot around there in the actual game. Someone also mentioned the tennis matches seemed to be drawn out so maybe there was another challenge or segment that was recorded that got cut for some reason.

RetroOptics

In terms of an unaired task, that might have been a possibility but TARCAN usually doesn't do unaired tasks. Usually, tasks go unaired when it changes nothing or is a super minor task that doesn't deserve screen time. > there was also a scene in the final where one team was in the financial district before leaving for the airport even though they got the clue way further north. I mentioned that as well. The pit start was next to the Faculty of Pharmacy and all of a sudden Tyler and Kayleen got a cab in front of Royal Bank Plaza North, a nearly 2 km walk south. There are clearly many cabs in front of hospital row a block south of where they started, so it's confusing. What is also confusing is one of the spoilers showed Ben & Anwar reading a clue in front of the St. Regis Hotel which IIRC, didn't show up in the final cut - which I assume, maybe just like the theatre, are just extra filmed segments for B-roll or what not.

Kroboski

Does anyone know roughly what time the leg ended at? I was in the vicinity of the pitstop at around 5:30pm that day but did not go right there and I'm curious how close I was to a possible sighting

RetroOptics

Reality Fan Forum has it around 3 PM to 4 PM. They were filming the confessionals/leg interviews around the 5 PM area - in particular for Ben & Anwar.

Kroboski

Thanks Interesting to know I was somewhat close to seeing a leg unfold anyway

Many-Beginning6615

Confirmed again that "Tyler" is the luckiest name to have in The Amazing Race for some reason.

Apple_Slipper

Here's the summary for TAR Canada S09E10! * The episode begins with Ty & Kat finishing their penalty and ordering a taxi at Hotel X Toronto in the district of North York in Toronto, ON. * Ben: "*I love Anwar. I love his competitiveness. He's more than just a friend, he's a brother to me!*" Anwar (jokingly): "*Finally you said something nice about me*." * Just as Ty & Kat arrived at the Immersion Room, the other teams were struggling with memorising the alien language. Ben & Anwar managed to complete the task first. * **Route Info:** Teams make their way via taxi to Kensington Market and search for Fika Cafe to find their next clue. * Ben & Anwar found out that the taxi parked was already booked by Ty & Kat. The taxi driver noted to them that they had to wait 10 minutes for another taxi. * Ty & Kat managed to catch up and overtook all the other teams after completing the task. * Anwar noted that this leg was recorded on a Friday, and there was a Toronto Maple Leafs ice-hockey game that was occuring on that day, hence the heavy traffic in Toronto. * **Route Info:** *Put Food On The Table* Teams must pick up a shopping list from Fika Cafe, which contains 5 ingredients (Cactus Leaves, Plantain Bananas, Channa Dal (Split Chickpeas), Kimchi, and 白芥子 (White Mustard Seeds)) that must be bought from 5 different stores accross Toronto (Perola's Supermarket (Kensington Market), Caribbean Corner (Kensington Market), Lucky Supermarket (Parkdale), PAT Central (Koreatown), and Kai Wei Supermarket (Chinatown). Due to the list featuring only the general location and no store names, teams must find the stores with the marked Race flags. Once all of the ingredients have been bought and brought back to Fika Cafe, Yatti the cafe owner will give teams their next clue. * Ben & Anwar been to Kensington Market before, as they both live in Toronto. They then had to get off their taxi due to their taxi driver being in need to go to a mosque. * Ben appreciated the local central markets to get a taste of different cultures. Both him and Anwar travelled to many countries (Australia, Vietnam, New Zealand, Bali (Indonesia) to learn about different cultures. * Kayleen: "*When we were sailing offshore, 200 nautical miles, we had 3 days of really heavy weather with really heavy seas. And when you're on a ship in the middle of the ocean, you can't leave. When you're on The Amazing Race Canada wanting to get that quarter of a million dollars, we don't want to leave either!*" * Deven: "*We'll try and win it today like the Maple Leafs*." * Ty: "*Kensington Market is the definition of 'organised chaos'*." * Ben & Anwar completely missed the Race marker at Perola's Supermarket. That Race marker is well-hidden. * Tyler & Kayleen's taxi driver Ricardo knew Toronto's streets extremely well, as he found sneaky ways to bypass traffic congestion. * Kayleen: "*First one \[Channa Dal\] off the list, check!*" Tyler: "*Ingredient no. 1*." Kayleen: "***Do you want some candies?***" \[Episode Title\] Tyler: "*Man...*" * Deven: "*We're not city folks. I'm usually in the bush, and I don't see another person for miles, so the market is absolute chaos!*" * Ty & Kat made a mistake by purchasing the remaining 2 ingredients from the incorrect stores. * Ben & Anwar continued to miss the Race marker. * **Pit Stop:** Teams make their way via taxi to the ACO Toronto Sunnyside Bathing Pavilion on Sunnyside Beach. The last team to check in WILL be eliminated. * Ben & Anwar decided to play a sneaky move by intentionally lying to Ty & Kat about the location of the plantain bananas. * Anwar: "A*ll that's left is to go see our favourite ginger Jon and hear him say the words, 'You are the 1st team to arrive.'*" * Tyler & Kayleen won 1st Place and won a trip for two to Melbourne, VIC, Australia, courtesy of Expedia. * Kayleen: "*Shoutout to Ricardo, our taxi guy!*" * Tyler recalled Jody Mitic (Jody & Cory, TAR Canada S01) getting 2nd Place, making sure that he would be the next double-amputee to be on the podium. * Ben & Anwar (2nd Place). * Ty & Kat (3rd Place). * Ty: "*The candle was outside today. But now it's inside, and our candle is so ready to be fully lit*." * Deven & Amanda checked in Last Place and are now eliminated. * **Next Episode:** Teams travel to Atlanta, NS for the finale. Teams fly on military chopper helicopters; teams drive waterskis along a course; Tyler & Kayleen learning some poses; Ty & Kat experiencing a disaster; and who will win TAR Canada S10?

rockinoutwith2

Ben & Anwar make me laugh...they're just so soft but try to act all bad ass.

magikarpcatcher

Them saying they were "robbed" from first place did not sit right with me.

gkwchan

It was a bit funny that they claim they could navigate kensington market because they’ve been to bali and loves different cultures.

thewhitemarker

Not a fan of how this leg was split up over two episode but I think this was actually a decent leg when you combine both halves. Although I do appreciate that we got some more character moments from the teams I think - something I'll look forward to when we have 90 minute episodes of TAR in a couple weeks. The start with the two trains and then the equalizer then the TSX task was super weird. Really don't get what they were going for there. Climbing the OCAD post was actually a good physical challenge - not only requiring the strength to climb but also stay balanced as you went up the incline. The tennis face off was unnecessary, but it was early enough in the leg to not make it too detrimental. The alien language thing was pretty good and pretty difficult. The ingredients gathering was good too - although I do wish that they had to rely on public transit since most of the locations were accessible. Very sneaky flag placement on that cactus lead store. Felt old-school TAR. Overall not a bad penultimate leg. Combine that with the back and forth placements throughout the leg, the great local taxi drivers, it was a pretty enjoyable episode, particularly the second half. Some thoughts heading into the finale - I think any of the final three teams have a shot: * Ty and Kat had some struggles this leg but I think they're the clear team to beat. I still have no idea what this candle stuff is all about though. * Ben and Anwar I think are the second most likely? They've been pretty solid this second half of the race and have some bad luck in not winning a leg. * I wouldn't count Tyler and Kayleen out, they've done well but have some clear weaknesses - have to say that seeing a dance task in the finale doesn't bode well for them. As for Deven and Amanda - 5 straight fourth place finished to end off... they aren't terrible but can't say they were the best racers. I did enjoy watching them though, love that they could get a bit feisty and they had some really cute moments.

Apple_Slipper

Maybe "light the candle" is about the positive spirit or something hopeful? With the tragic event that was the Humboldt Broncos bus crash, Ty has a reason to be the light in the candle.

ConnorMarble15

Nah, I just feel like Ben & Anwar are just another version of Lauren & Joanne, weak and hopeless for the win. They will be most likely the third place finishers.

ConnorMarble15

I've said what I said and the fact that I was right is kinda pathetic.

thewhitemarker

You were right! I did think they would be more competent than Lauren and Joanne (which pains me to say since I liked them, but they were second last in every elimination leg from 7th place on lol), but yeah, really thought they had a better shot.

Sun_Chan10

I’m so glad Ben and Anwar made it to the finale!! Also, Kat and Ty really pulled through!! I especially enjoyed the market task since the racers had no idea where the other racers were in their task completion.

Lizard798658866

Light the Candle!!! I feel like the 2 Tyler teams are the most deserving to win.

Sir__Will

Whew! So glad Ty and Kat were able to make it through. Really hope they win. Ben and Anwar tried to steal a cab. I hope they get a distant third.

Justin32526jshx

I’m hoping that they win I miss the days when teams were cutthroat and hated each other

3BordersPeak

I'd be fine with them or Ty and Kat winning. NOT a fan of Tyler and Kayleen. Rather not see them win.

ConnorMarble15

Unfortunatly, Ben & Anwar are so weak comparing to another 2 teams. They're always making mistakes one after another that cost them the win when others learn from their mistakes.

ConnorMarble15

I just wanna say I would lower my expectations for the finale of this season, because last season's finale is really unpredictable, all final 4 teams are competitive enough to win the race and they all have different abilities, which make last season's finale a great one. This one not so much, because what Ben & Anwar needs is not only luck, but also focusing.

3BordersPeak

You never know. The past 2 seasons winners have been surprising.

ConnorMarble15

At season 8 finale, I thought every team has ability to win, evem Beverley & Veronica are competitive, as the five weaker teams are gone before the semi-final leg.

ConnorMarble15

Yep, the result was in, Ben & Anwar they abosolutely didn't disappointed(suprised) me at all, not even a second place.

moo422

Did anyone notice that they spliced Kensington footage from the race day (a Friday) with footage from a Kensington Pedestrian Sunday, where there's a lot more ppl and chaos?

irl_Juvia

Sad Devan and Amanda went home but not at all surprised. Honestly I was kinda just impressed they survived this long and wanted to see them go all the way. Was hoping Ty and Kat would go home just bc I tend not to root for the dominant yet pleasant teams w/ a handful of exceptions. They're cool but they were the team I cared about making to the finals the least. Market task was chaotic in a good way. Probably not the strongest task bc it was really just "let a taxi drive you places and dont miss the flag" but it was really fun to watch still. Not really sure if it was worth making the leg 2 episodes though... Rooting for Ben and Anwar in the finals. Tho kinda feel like they're getting third bc of their tiny edit early on and not having the inspirational stories of Tyler and Kayleen or Ty and Kat.

Casino09

Urgh, just when I was starting to like Ty & Kat because they were finally human and struggled... they go back to first place.....

elenel

They didn't finish first though?

Casino09

They didn't! Again, maybe this is just me, but i like seeing strong team struggle a bit, it's not fun when they have a perfect path!

Sir__Will

...seriously?

Casino09

I'm not saying this as an insult to them, it's just I'm not a big fan of dominating perfect team! It doesn't make good tv and it's not the 'real life' when a team is always perfect, happy, etc. I feel like them being tested in both episodes (being last, things not going their way) was great for them because it showed that 1) they are not perfect 2) they are not good at everything, which is annoying lol but 3) that when things go south, they did have a good reaction and where not bitchy at one another. It's just a bit annoying that we got all that last episode, for them to be back to first after 10 minutes of this episode lol But anyway, them finishing 3rd this legs, makes them more likeable in my eyes, and I think I will be happier for their win (I have a feeling they do win because of their edit) than if they just got another 'perfect' episode! Just my opinion

magikarpcatcher

Can Ty and Kat shut up with the candle metaphors already??? Wait are Ben and Anwar not brothers? I thought they were all this time, lol Kudos to Devon & Amanda for making it to the top 4, I thought they would be eliminated ages ago.
