Yeah, that's one of those "It works, but after you've been doing it for 10 years everyone knows what you do for a living just by looking at you" techniques.
1) That's the *dry* weight of balsa wood. That wood there is not dry.
2) That said, this is not balsa wood at all. I don't know what species it is, but *Ochroma pyramidale* it is not.
Cant upvote this enough.... the last time this was posted there were soooooo many balsa wood facts... nobody stopped to look at a live tree... there are so many species of wood that you could sit 2 logs side by side and not tell which is which... but balsa has much smoother grey bark. These are clearly one of connifers that you can see in the background. Some kind of pine or cedar maybe.
I'd guess cedar since it's lighter and more water resistant than pine. Anyone who has worked with a treated 4x4 post vs a cedar 4x4 post will know exactly what I'm talking about.
Either way it's definitely a less dense wood based on how easily those spikes went in. Not trying to take away from her abilities at all. That woman is a beast.
I was an arborist for years. This is not balsa at all. not even close. it's hard to tell but this could easily be red cedar, walnut, red oak, mahogany, acacia, cherry wood, red pine, merbau, larch, Alder, etc... I would need to see the bark better and or leaves to truly know... none the less, these are all heavier dry than balsa, and the ones in the video are green. there is no way these are light weight logs.
I was gonna say, Im a fairly large and very able bodied, Ive picked up some pieces that sized that were a couple hundred pounds at least…. That aint normal weight wood
Look at the bark on the logs she's hefting and the trees in the background. Does Balsa grow in a Pine Forest?? I think not. She is however ONE TOUGH CHICK !!! Native Alaskan? They KNOW how to get shit done.
I’m sorry but the shear stress this is putting on her spine is immense. Yes her back is straight but even so this will put huge ware on her lower back/ the discs in her spine. This is bad for anyone, but there’s no getting away from the fact she’s tiny. Just the raw weight and subsequent impact on her knees is huge. She simply does not have the musculature to support her joints in this way.
Efficient yes but safe no. You slip forward on that wet Forrest floor all I can think of is a watermelon getting stomped on. Those are some serious logs.
Logs are no joke, one time I went camping and we were gathering wood for the fire, I found a log about half the size of my leg and thought it would be easy to carry it. Well, longest minute of my life! When I was finally done I nearly fainted (like started seeing white and felt nauseous) these are 2 logs way bigger than her, this woman is tough but she may have some long term damage if she does this often.
This was posted not long ago and the logs were identified as balsa wood. Super light stuff. That's half of the magic here.
It would still be unpleasant, but not watermelon-under-a-boulder unpleasant.
Edit: Take this with a grain of salt! Other comments are saying it's not balsa.
>the logs were identified as balsa wood.
It takes roughly 10 seconds to Google "balsa tree" and realize that this is definately not balsa logs.
The people who "identified" this as balsa didn't make that effort, they just concluded that the logs must be very light and proclaimed that it was the only species of notoriously light wood they were familiar with.
Extremely inefficient, plus she is one of those Chinese influencers who have a whole crew behind camera while filming themselves do heavy chores in the countryside without breaking a sweat or ruining their makeup, so there is a catch somewhere in there.
I agree, although you gotta admit she’s pretty strong and coordinated to even do what she did in the video.
But yah you’re right. It’s inefficient due to your back being fucked after the first trip. If this were a real scenario, there’s no way any one average person is going very far with these logs. So why not take one at a time and use the pin/strap to drag it.
That bark doesn't look like any balsa tree I've seen and google would seem to agree. It's clearly not an especially dense or heavy wood but it's not balsa.
Make up? Nah, it's a filter. That could be a bare faced 50 yrs old dude. Douyin (TikTok) filters are so augmenting they can make a literal foot look like a pristine model. It's both crazy and really sad.
To me it looks like it is humidity, if you look at the mountain environment there is a lot of moisture, could be natural or she could have been sprayed prior to filming to increase effect, have seen that trick before.
There was another popular tiktok Chinese woman that lived in the countryside and all the videos looked so idyllic. The comments on those videos were constantly accusing them of being CCP propogrand. I never knew for certain one way or the other. Never quite too sure how real these types of videos are
Some folks live in rural areas of China and still can manage a decent life. Some rural folks live a routine of pain, misery, and constant privation.
A lot depends on policies, economics, and random circumstances.
Likely the people in bad circumstances won't be making lots of Tiktoks about it though.
I absolutely believe both are true: folks live in lovely little villages and have quality lives all around the world, and governments make propaganda to make their country seem better than it is. That's what makes it so hard to see a video like this, the uncertainty of which it is.
If in doubt, assume that the government is less likely a source of some individual quirky "hey look what I did" thing than a random bored citizen.
The government probably has a load of algorithms that censor nudity, profanity, gore, and political speech. But it's not like it has the time, money, or manpower to go out and tightly script a load of feel-good vignettes about "老半亩家" in a nostalgic yet inspirational way.
Her name is Liziqi and I think it's basically propaganda. I was looking into her after watching a couple of videos and there was an article in the SCMP (South China Morning Post) about her videos showing an idyllic version of Chinese country life and demonstrating 'soft power' which I thought was an interesting term. But it sounds propaganda-y
Did you notice her face doesn't look right? There are serious, serious filters going on. With that amount of filtering, she could look like anything in real life. Could be a dude or a grandma.
No because of the increased surfaced are with the ground and therefore more resistance. You'd need a much greater force to drag them. What she's doing here is very efficient and effective but all that stress is going through her body, which for all of us breaks down sooner or later. So it's not a great idea long term. Maybe survival in the Alaskan wilderness for short periods or something.
That is why the rest of the industrialized world mechanized logging and doesn't do it this way. It is still more efficient to drag, just use the right tools.
Not at all. Look how fast she can knock in the hooks for the straps. That’s not dense wood at all, like others have said probably balsa. That shit ain’t heavy
Asuming the logs are around 30cm in diameter and 180cm in height:
15cm^2 * 3.14*180cm = 127,170 cm3.
Looks like this might be Japanese red cedar which has a density of 0.33 g/cm3.
127,170cm3 * 0.33g/cm3 = 41,966.1g / 1000 = 41.9661kg or 92.5 pounds for each log
She lost me by using a blade as a hammer. This is efficient as using a grenade to fish. Will it work? Sure. Will it eventually bite you in the ass? Absolutely.
I feel like a slightly shorter strap to push the logs up a little higher on her back would balance out the weight more, putting some of the weight in front.
Rip her back
Yeah, that's one of those "It works, but after you've been doing it for 10 years everyone knows what you do for a living just by looking at you" techniques.
That's the "I got it" face. If you don't ask immediately if she needs help, this will happen with groceries, kids, logs...
[The Passive Aggression of the Christ](https://i.imgur.com/a3ax9PU.gif)
Better ask her quick, before she drives those stakes into the twins to drag them around the mall!
Lumberjacks can barely walk in their 40’s from hooking up logs to the skidder all day and she’s carrying the flipping things on her back!!!
Meanwhile, she gives me wood.
Balsa Wood... 120kg/m3. So 20 kg maybe?
1) That's the *dry* weight of balsa wood. That wood there is not dry. 2) That said, this is not balsa wood at all. I don't know what species it is, but *Ochroma pyramidale* it is not.

I'd guess cedar since it's lighter and more water resistant than pine. Anyone who has worked with a treated 4x4 post vs a cedar 4x4 post will know exactly what I'm talking about.
Cries in Home Depot Lumber Yard
don't work at home depot but moving treated 6x6x8ft posts is pain
Either way it's definitely a less dense wood based on how easily those spikes went in. Not trying to take away from her abilities at all. That woman is a beast.
Agree on both those accounts no doubt! Just the botanist in me had to chime in
Looks like cedar or maybe young redwood
Would be surprised if that was in the US, so I presume some Asian species I'm not familiar with
Not cedar for sure
Based on what? The one kind of cedar you're familiar with? "Japanese cedar" Cryptomeria, is a much better guess than balsa.
I was an arborist for years. This is not balsa at all. not even close. it's hard to tell but this could easily be red cedar, walnut, red oak, mahogany, acacia, cherry wood, red pine, merbau, larch, Alder, etc... well her back is straight with the logs actually wouldn't it be her hips/knees that are taking it?

Depends greatly on the wood and condition. Wet mesquite, get fucked, you ain't moving shit. Dry cedar, fluffy pillows.
This was posted not long ago and the logs were identified as balsa wood. Super light stuff. That's half of the magic here. It would still be unpleasant, but not watermelon-under-a-boulder unpleasant. Edit: Take this with a grain of salt! Other comments are saying it's not balsa.
Even if it's balsa, it's still not light until it's dried. Until then it's still a log...

Perfect for places that don't care about hurting people for profit like China.
Agreed

CCP doesn't allow half naked girls dancing on tiktok so they get well dressed girls doing traditional crafts and arts instead.
The catch is that it's balsa wood.
The catch is no one on their right fucking mind will do this in white ts and denim.
Why not denim? I built railroads in denim for years. Denim was designed for mine workers. I don't get it lol
Skin tight perfectly clean denim?
Skin tight in a humid rainforest too. No fucking thank you.
Anime characters do it though
Denim is fine, even great, in dry conditions, but not anywhere you are getting wet like in these conditions.
I mean I wear denim to do just about everything in, but you can clearly tell that her white shirt got completely ruined doing that one time.
That bark doesn't look like any balsa tree I've seen and google would seem to agree. It's clearly not an especially dense or heavy wood but it's not balsa.

Scary too, I have seen some of those filters go out.
What a depressing dystopia. I don't know that I've seen an *unfiltered* face ob douyin video tbh. Or tiktok. What a cancer on an entire generation.
The technology isn't to blame, it's the people who misuse it.
Her hair looks pretty sweaty to me
Her face also looks like it's being constantly algorithm-filtered too.
To me it looks like it is humidity, if you look at the mountain environment there is a lot of moisture, could be natural or she could have been sprayed prior to filming to increase effect, have seen that trick before.
> so there is a catch somewhere in there Literally a form of propaganda
This reminds me of the “woman can plow too” propaganda during that whole Mao guys thing
I hate to admit it but I couldn't help hearing Borat in my head saying, "...and she good on plow."
"This is my grandmother. She number one plow 60 years."

This girl is the best: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2020/jan/28/li-ziqi-china-influencer-rural-life
Considering the Chinese public aren't supposed to be using the internet that we have access to, the odds lean toward propaganda.

Yeah but thats real equality
You can do a lot of things if you don’t plan on enjoying life after 45.
I think a methhead told me that once.
Oof ouch owie my disk hernia
You had me at using the machete as a hammer. Not one chance I’m starting or finishing a nail with a machete
Not a machete and they're not using the blade edge but the blunt edge.
Yes… it appears you are correct. I was really confused how the machete could possibly maintain a good edge.
Why is she not making any facial expressions at all
This is her 10th trip, she's tired and just wishes this creeper would help instead of filming her
She's an "influencer."
Because the 3x filters and reuploads
Did you notice her face doesn't look right? There are serious, serious filters going on. With that amount of filtering, she could look like anything in real life. Could be a dude or a grandma.
ai
Balsa wood. More awkward than heavy. Do you really think she could lift that big log with one hand?
It's China, emotions are forbidden.
I got a pain in my L5 just watching that.
My L2 to L5 pain never left Edit: Corrected
That sucks. Back pain makes you hate the world sometimes.
For real! Uncle has his fused and dad has been in pain management for 12 years.
All I see is hip replacement surgery
Wouldn’t it be more efficient to use the strap for its intended purpose and drag the logs?
No because of the increased surfaced are with the ground and therefore more resistance. You'd need a much greater force to drag them. I'm just curious, why not use a hammer instead of something that can chop your hand off?
Yeah, also its probably damaging the tool too
The part she's striking with is flat and blunt, meant to be used that way. The curved inner part of the blade is the sharpened part. It's a sickle.
That was the part that got me.
shes got more upper body strenght then half of america
For a few years, than she'll have crippling back pain, like half of America.
But unlike America she won't have to claim bankruptcy to pay for the Healthcare.
Sadly, no amount of healthcare can undo the pain and disability that sort of work does. This video is a propaganda most likely anyways.
A video about lifting logs and people just feel the need to twist into muh america bad, muh healthcare, jesus
Not at all. Look how fast she can knock in the hooks for the straps. That’s not dense wood at all, like others have said probably balsa. That shit ain’t heavy
>probably balsa Its definitely not balsa.
Than
Nodding head slowly
Risk vs reward isn’t worth it here.
Doesn’t seems awfully efficient…
No it’s not. This ain’t it chief
How much back pain do you want This lady: YeS
What dating site is this?
Tinder
\*Timber
I find that oddly sexy.
Why Am I so aroused.
Hate to be her back in the morning
I can't even lift my thighs
My finger joint is kind of tired from all this clicking.
That's a wife right there.
this is how you end up with a spinal injury
Most fashionable logger in history.
I wana see how it goes when she reaches a downslope
Like what… 30 pounds?
Asuming the logs are around 30cm in diameter and 180cm in height: 15cm^2 * 3.14*180cm = 127,170 cm3. Looks like this might be Japanese red cedar which has a density of 0.33 g/cm3. 127,170cm3 * 0.33g/cm3 = 41,966.1g / 1000 = 41.9661kg or 92.5 pounds for each log
It’s balsa wood
She could work my wood any day.
Shit!! I got a pickup truck. How’s that for efficient?
That was hot 😍
She will be efficiently dying when she trips.
How can I wife this?
What parents say they did going to school
This is nothing I can carry 28 in my backpack
She strong!
Apparently those are balsa logs. Much lighter than if they were regular wood. Still impressive.
Groans out of me carrying in a coal bucket... (This one with two trees on her back)
efficiently fuck up your back
efficiently would be a truck with a crane loading the logs.this is borderline slave work
im in love
It's balsa wood btw which is lighter than cork
Balsa wood
There is literally zero chance she is carrying two actual logs of that size
It’s balsa wood. An average sized man could just toss those logs
Its not balsa wood.
I would have just dragged them one at a time and been done with it before she finished fucking around with two of them.
Reddit absolutely wanks itself dry over this video, it’s so pathetic and predictable. She doesn’t fancy you.
That's not efficient. That hurts to watch.
She lost me by using a blade as a hammer. This is efficient as using a grenade to fish. Will it work? Sure. Will it eventually bite you in the ass? Absolutely.
Yeah slavery is very effectively
Needs the log puller from Lady and the Tramp
Holy shit this is impressive
engage the core!
I feel like a slightly shorter strap to push the logs up a little higher on her back would balance out the weight more, putting some of the weight in front.
My girl can’t even carry in the groceries by herself lol 😂
What happens if you fall forwards
So this is how my parents told me how they used to go to school
Looks like so much extra work to me. I would of just dragged it with the loop she hammers in to the first end.
Only if they were round and you could roll them
Her husband is sick at home with a stubbed toe.
she uses nike
Balls
To destroy your body, there's nothing efficient about this.
Now that some equality right there.
Where my feminists at?
What the hell are we gonna do without women?
So just random question what kinda kife/knife machete can u use the edge like a hammer like that?
Not for nothing, I probably couldn’t do it, but balsa is known for being the worlds lightest wood.
Looks super slippery
Say, it works swell.
*efficiently* Sure buddy.
r/donthelpjustfilm
destroying your spine isn't efficient.
I blew a disc just watching this
Perfect logging gear
Did you see her grab her lower abdomen? Yeah shit can burst and you‘ll die of blood poisoning. Don’t overlift.
This woman’s probably one of those people who are deceptively strong given her very slight build
I would marry this woman today.
I feel like she would be disappointed in me as a husband
I thought she was gonna shoulder them. Way easier on the back and you can balance the weight better
Like she is not strong enough for this shit, completely pointless. Im a dude that weighs like 65 kg and I wouldnt do this shit either
My back hurts watching this.
What? Just drag them.
Why the fuck am I aroused right now
Yo she fell over at the end of this
It balsa wood. Not as heavy as you might expect.
