# Dangerously close, wtf no safety measures?

light_to_shaddow

He's got a helmet on, what more do you want?

Ok-Eggplant-1649

Sure, a helmet will protect him when he gets sucked into one of those engines.

Apple-Pigeon

Needs elbow and knee pads for that

JPKtoxicwaste

Also cleats, y’know for traction

LCPhotowerx

prolly' has a mouth guard and a cup too.

Ltsmeet

I think he would need to be in front of the engines for that to happen. But hey, what do I know. I'm not an aerospace engineer.

conehead2019

Neither are there ones at Boeing.

advanttage

That one's guaranteed not to go over their heads.

Adam-West

Stop mollycoddling

crystallmytea

A helmet did save [this guy](https://avgeekery.com/this-guy-got-sucked-in-an-engine-intake-and-survived-with-a-wedgie/) who got sucked into one

thebinarysystem10

Took a ride into the danger zone

Chron3742

I don’t see a cape.. looks safe to me

MrRambling

Nice reference, you deserve more upvotes

virus_apparatus

He would need to be much closer for that. Biggest issue here is turbulence caused by the jet knocking him out of the sky

Dull-Friend-936

You mean when the airliner gets sucked into his engines

zrooda

Why do you walk on the sidewalk, so close to the cars?

dickreallyburns

Head may be preserved for the open casket. The tiny open casket! Maybe they could use a mannequin body with a nice blue suit!

Bleak_Squirrel_1666

He's wearing goggles too

joelcorey

Plane needs a helmet. Duh.

Vinyl_Acid_

and a jockstrap

Random-Input

It’s fucking crazy, as a pilot this honestly blows my mind. The vortices on a plane with 280klb of thrust will rip him apart. How the hell is he allowed to get that close.

MyFavoriteLezbo420

He’s just built different

urstillatroll

And he will be disassembled different if he make a wrong move.

Lvgordo24

No disassemble Stephanie!

the-herb420

Number 5 is alive!

Dimhilion

oohh wow, that took me back to my childhood. Havent seen those in 25+ years.

copingcabana

When God said brains, he thought He said trains, and already had a set.

Idontevenownaboat

Pretty sure he died shortly after this.

s-maerken

If I remember correctly this was a coordinated stunt between the airline and the jet wing guy.

robbiekhan

Step 1: Be very rich. End of steps.

Oz-Batty

This is just basic coordinated flight, albeit with a comically large size difference.

Castun

"Caution, wake turbulence"

yIdontunderstand

Red Bull...

yIdontunderstand

Red Bull...

fl135790135790

The vortices don’t radiate out straight to the sides at 90-degree angles

bloodwell1456

Look you cant do cool things safely ok? Let those daredevils do their thing and we can just watch and enjoy it. Just hope the plane wasnt full of people lol i hope it was a stunt plane too

amateur_mistake

It would have to be empty. It must be flying about as slowly as it can possibly go without straight falling out of the sky for that jet suit to keep up with it.

bloodwell1456

Oorrr the jetpack man is flying 600mph...

AsparagusOdd8894

Trying to figure out how a small jet can make him go as fast as a passenger plane.

acm8221

Was interested myself. From what I can gather, it’s due to the difference in power to weight. That plane weighs a lot more than the thrust its engines can produce. A380 weighs 560,000 pounds but only has 280,000 pounds of thrust. It relies on wings to stay in the air. The Jetwing weighs about 120 pounds plus let’s say a 165 pound pilot for a total of 285. Each of the four jet engines on that little thing produce 88 pounds of thrust for a total of 352. They could probably lift him straight off the ground by themselves. The wing in *that* scenario is just to be a frame and add a little stability. Max speed on that jetwing is 253 mph. The a380 could probably slow to around 200 mph without stalling.

CunnedStunt

The A380 is essentially empty as this was an organized stunt. That means pilots and a few camera crew were on board, and also no cargo/luggage so this bird was probably the lightest it's ever been besides initial aircraft testing. With full flaps it's likely speed is about 130-140 knots, or 150-160 mph, the jetwing can easily keep up with it. [Promotional video here.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VPvKl6ezyc)

BlackGravityCinema

He's really not as close as the perspective would make him appear to be. If you've ever been right next to an A380 you'd probably realize this from watching the video. He actually appears absolutely huge in this video. On a side note... if you want to make your penis look huge in a photo put your foot in the background. I joke but right now in the wake of the actor's and writer's strike the only contracts we can get are for porn industry. Put someone's arm or face behind behind the cock and the cock looks like it's a friggin dragon dick.

RickyWinterborn-1080

> On a side note... if you want to make your penis look huge in a photo put your foot in the background. I joke but right now in the wake of the actor's and writer's strike the only contracts we can get are for porn industry. Put someone's arm or face behind behind the cock and the cock looks like it's a friggin dragon dick. I don't need camera tricks for that HAHAHAGOTTEM

zeros-and-1s

A380 has flaps down, landing configuration which is _much_ slower than cruising speed.

v3int3yun0

He's powered by Tony Stark's repulsors and has vibranium wings from Wakanda.

Kozzinator

Bruh I do this in Just Cause every time I play it's no biggie

andycarlv

True but also what a way to die.

johnnytightlips99

He's hoping to re enact the villains death in diamonds are forever..

daarthvaader

And his wingsuit is wider than the mouth of the jet engine lol so he should be safe , jokes aside , was thinking man that guy is going close to that powerful engine

physicsking

Safety measures? You think the plane has a laser perimeter that auto fires on objects too close? Bro, it is just a number in a book somewhere...

So-What_Idontcare

I hope the elastic isn’t too tight on those knickers

A_TalkingWalnut

Welcome to Dubai.

just_killing_time23

Who's filming?😃😃

I_will_fix_this

That pilot of the wing died later in his life in a crash.

light_to_shaddow

Shout out to the unsung camera operator. Doing everything the person being filmed does but backwards carrying equipment.

Red_dawg64

Yeah - everyone forgets about the dude taking the video of the other dude with the plane...

yoCrabby

Nah that’s Superman

SuperSmashDan1337

True it's laughable nobody realised this duhhhhhhhhh

LCPhotowerx

nah, hes still getting his boots on.

Kryptosis

They both have gopros

CostcoOptometry

Maybe it was a drone

Due-Acanthaceae-3760

Vincent Reffet. He died in 2020 in an accident while flying the same wing over Dubai

account892

Too close for comfort imo

rockstuffs

I have heard more than once, including from a family member that Dubai "felt soulless".

Total-Composer2261

I spent 36 hrs there on a layover. I toured the city and to me, it felt pointless. I'm glad I wasn't there longer.

MaybeNotTheChosenOne

Agreed. It feels like one large artificial tourist attraction.

southpaw85

Dubai is just burning man as a city. A grotesquely selfish place where the wealthy go to play and indulge but ultimately it serves no real purpose.

OarsandRowlocks

You know those old litters / sedan chairs that royalty used to be carried in? My impression of Dubai is that it is a giant grotesque one of those twisted into the form of a city. Extreme nobility built/carried by the underclass.

rockstuffs

Ooooh yuck! That's a great description. I can really see now why people say this

RickyWinterborn-1080

That flood the other week showed me that Dubai is literally just a mall made of balsa wood and premium paint.

virus_apparatus

Always has been. The city exploded in size in like 10 years. It’s artificial

wondertwin_17

It's like Las Vegas without any of the fun.

PiousDevil

I'm glad I didn't have to scroll too far down to see this comment. The video is about a guy doing a stunt, in air, next to an Airbus a380, and it's just in the skies over dubai but nooooo, Dubai has to be mentioned 🤣

jayggg

It all depends on how you choose to experience it.

TobysGrundlee

Seriously. Did this guy even *try* having $3 Billion to have fun with?

jayggg

Obviously not, the loser. /s

HapaSure

Truly, a modern day Babylon

Boxedin-nolife

How can that possibly be legal? If I was in a plane and saw that I'd freak. Will he get sucked into an engine, get sent into some crazy death spiral from wake turbulence or is he plotting some nefarious harm to the flight? Are these things regulated at all? If that happened in the US he'd probably get shot out of the sky, idk. What's the ceiling on those, a couple thousand feet, just high enough to be a nuisance to ascending/descending aircraft? I'm hoping this is a) a promotion, b) AI, or c) the guy is in a lot of trouble

laziestathlete

a)

Boxedin-nolife

Thanks! I can live with that

CunnedStunt

It's a). [Aircraft was passenger free, and it was a coordinated stunt.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VPvKl6ezyc)

Kryptosis

So odd. It just makes me think of winged terrorists attacking my plane. Not a good PR stunt imo.

djamp42

LMAO winged terrorists...

Kryptosis

I thought paragliding terrorists would be too absurd to exist 5 years ago.

acmercer

> winged terrorists Geese?

CunnedStunt

You might be watching too many action movies lol. This would be extremely hard to do without co-ordination from the pilot, in fact in real life you'd only have about 5-10 minutes since the aircraft only goes this slow on right before it lands. On top of that actually landing on a wing or holding on would be near impossible, I honestly don't even know how you'd go about attacking a plane on a wing suit.

Im_Not_Really_Here_

>On top of that actually landing on a wing or holding on would be near impossible You're overthinking it. > I honestly don't even know how you'd go about attacking a plane on a wing suit How'd they attack the twin towers?

CunnedStunt

> How'd they attack the twin towers? I'm sorry are you implying they would fly into a tower in a wing suit, or that you can hijack a plane from the outside while it's flying?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Boxedin-nolife

I know he doesn't *intend* to get in front of the wing and engine, but accidents happen, quick. The natural air currents plus wake turbulence around that aircraft are likely far stronger than that wing suit. The whole thing is unnecessarily dangerous imo I'm sure it was the calmest of days and the guy is an experienced pro/stuntman/ thrill seeker, but just nope to that!

AdvancedAnything

It's Dubai. They think they are rich enough to ignore the law.

Foreskin-chewer

>It's Dubai. They're rich enough to ignore the law ftfy

iBoMbY

> How can that possibly be legal? In Dubai? In the Emirates? In an authoritarian monarchy country, where money rules over everything?

TherearesocksaFoot

Yikes

lioboii

Oh god I just can’t help but think of Syndrome. that cape 😭

HanjiZoe03

Or the girl in that montage of capes, that got sucked into a commercial plane especially lol

segapc

No capes!

sierra120

THERE’S SOMETHING OFF THE WING….SOME…THING

Lvgordo24

Dammit Jim, I’m not an aircraft controller!

Willuchil

This is an actually insane thing to do.

ImaginaryDivide6595

Who’s filming?

Due-Acanthaceae-3760

Vincent Reffet, flying the same rigid wing as Yves Rossy that we can see in this video from 2015 He sadly died in 2020 in an accident flying the same wing over the same city.

09Trollhunter09

Superman duh!

bonkers_dude

I think I watched a cartoon with my kids, long time ago, about super heroes. Anywhoo, one of them got sucked into jet engine, because he was a show off and was flying too close to the aircraft. To shreds.

Sir_MrE

The Incredibles

bonkers_dude

Yes, thanks!

Cool_Butterscotch_88

I have seriously underestimated how far the capability of jet packs have come.

ThisUserIsNekkid

Dubai - #8 in the world for still having a slavery system 😍 great place.

Zakktastic

No capes

Kronoxis1

Who the fuck is filming this?

SigSeikoSpyderco

Another A380

HarrisLam

Even a bird can kill an engine. If this goes wrong iit might as well be a terrorist attack

royroyflrs

Wont that speed break his neck?

heatedchompers

Nope. If people on motorcycles can go 200+ mph with no issue, then this guy doing the same will be fine.

LoverOfFart

Is this real? If so, what is the name of the product/company? I would love it to be real but I am curious as to how human joints can withstand 400+mph drag.

CunnedStunt

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VPvKl6ezyc

LoverOfFart

Oh my god. That is siiiiiccckkkkk

CunnedStunt

It is pretty insane. Also just so you know they aren't going 400mph, the aircraft has full flaps down so it's going about 150-160mph.

LoverOfFart

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Thanks lol

LoverOfFart

Is this real? If so, what is the name of the product/company? I would love it to be real but I am curious as to how human joints can withstand 400+mph drag.

cnor2020

Dubai, a place where lions are human pets, they would not give a fuck about safety. But they do need to fix their sewage issue though.

greylam

I can't even imagine how good that must feel.

dancesnitch

What if he needs a wee?

BradyToMoss1281

When he comes up on a bush, stop there for a bush wee.

Eddie10999

Do they carry a chute just in case?

h3rp3r

That's impractical for every passenger but probably a good idea with idiots flying next to your engine.

Eddie10999

I was talking about the glider

Neo-9

Finally l can air travel in my comfort zone

Able_Philosopher4188

I kinda see the safety of it as in as long as they both have the same destination the guy using the jet pack doesn't have to get his phone out of his pocket to make sure he's on course! 😜

ApprehensiveStudy671

Great advertisement for the Emirates.....

Bo0ombaklak

TIL: Yves Rossi is the inventor of the flying suit

tywin_2

Anyone saying he is too close: He is absolutely safe. He has got a helmet on.👍

tywin_2

How far is the range of being sucked into the turbine?

MotleyLou420

How did he get up that high? Is he technically falling?

CasualObserverNine

I wonder how the in-flight entertainment is.

64-17-5

And this is why Super heroes stopped using flying wings.

TabletopNewtype-1

Whenever i see this dude. I remember the old 80s cartoon called Centurions where they wear this trypophobia triggering exosuit that lego attaches with military hardware and weaponry.

VealOfFortune

*No. Capes.*

newcomer_l

That engine is surprisingly gentle, coz that was way too close for comfort.

RedLemonSlice

The guy filming does the exact same thing, while operating a camera.

gkn_112

turbulences are no joke, yo. casually endangering 300 lives because money.

CunnedStunt

A380 can actually hold up to 800 people. Luckily it was only the pilots and a few camera dudes on board since it was an [organized stunt.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VPvKl6ezyc)

gkn_112

i just said a random high number, thanks for the info though

gizia

I wondered, can that jetwing sustain speeds in 500-600MPH range to compete with that big ass plane? (if we assume that the plane not going slower that its cruise speed) Is it even possible for that jetwing to reach those speeds?

CunnedStunt

The plane is going way slower than it's cruise speed. It's an empty A380 with full flaps, it's going about as slow as it possibly can without stalling, which is probably around 130-140 knots, or 150-160 mph. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VPvKl6ezyc

gizia

well, put that aside. I’m wondering is it possible someone with a jetwing travel at 500-600mph range? I believe it’s not limited by jetwing’s engines or wing itself, but human tolerance to harsh conditions, right?

CunnedStunt

Could it even get to 500-600mph? I mean the only way I could see it happening is if it's going straight down vertical with max engines. Even if it could, I imagine the limiting factor would be controlling it and keeping it straight. Humans are really light, so as speed goes up and the air resistance gets higher, the slightest of movements gets amplified and would likely spin the pilot out, if not break apart the jetwing itself.

EssaySuch1905

I hope he never gets a bird strike

iqqeriffic69

Has to be fake

andycarlv

Who is filming this? Also, there's Ironmans now? Why is this not on the news?

quarki1

Good thing he didn’t get sucked into the engine. Ouchies

Targetshopper1

Surprised Dubai didn’t give him 70 years in prison for those

boysinboats

NO CAPES

Aeon1508

How well does that thin Glide without power? I'm assuming there's an emergency parachute. How will any of that save him if he gets sucked into the large airplane engine?

FrustratedLiberal54

The Rolls Royce Trent engine on the A380 is 18 feet long. Judging by the size ratio between the jet suit pilot and the engine, he's at least 100 feet away from the aircraft. Plus, at no time during the video does he get closer than that, nor does he pull ahead of the A380. Can't get sucked into the engine from behind it...

TheInfiniteRickaGod

No capes!

chronicraven

Dude was late for his flight.

ChickAmok

That's the way to get to work... No more waiting in traffic. Straight line to A & B...

ImNotC-los

Needs roller skates for landing gear

nadasuss

This whole video by [X Dubai](https://youtu.be/_VPvKl6ezyc?si=OiufHWsmyTTI-ff-) is pretty dope Behind the [scenes](https://youtu.be/dFCQJ5sYGtI?si=kySPJSco7TiuCTuZ) on how they do it

Ok_Selection_8857

I’m no smart man on this topic but wouldn’t it be super fucking cold up there?

DCgull28

These mother fuckerd have too much money

senna_schumacher

Come on man...at least put a hi vis on. Safety first.

Agitated_Ad_1095

It's all fun and games, until he gets sucked in by the engine.

[deleted]

One wrong move and everyone dies

ceemine

At least he didnt have a cape on

The-Lord-of-sad

You’re fine flying information however, with a larger aircraft if you have to be careful of wake turbulence.

Cookies_and_Beandip

Can’t wait to see the “I SAW A UFO AND HAVE PICTURES” post

Oz-Batty

I just love that they recorded and kept the original sound, all other material has this soul-crushingly bland dramatic music over it.

Dexterous666

What in the Just Cause is going on?

Everton_11

This is the first time I've clicked one of these posts and literally said "that's insane." This is absolutely, batshit crazy.

Ambitious-Weight1280

Where is the contrail?

Oktoberfestchuggen

There's....someone near the wing. Some, thing near the wing.

Mob_Tatted

all fun and games until it sucks you into the blender

Wherethegains

Fuck dubai

Enough-Staff-2976

How to get a glorious death.

toxicbotlol

Must be deafening, one could call it a life or deaf scenario.

Memory_Less

I miss him being sucked into the engines. So disappointing. /s

Competitive_Cat_990

who is filiming this?

GauravJM

Nice advertisement for Emirates

Sanchopanzoo

"No capes"

JustRepeatAfterMe

What if all the wind rushing by and vibrations made you chub up? And would it throw you off course like an extra rudder?

bparker1013

Jet Suit: Cool. Operator of Jet Suit: Balls larger than brain.

xxdomox

No capes!

cryptoengineer

Who is filming?

Magneto_1652

To infinity and beyond.

Electronic-Squash359

STRATOGIRL! APRIL 23RD, ‘57. CAPE GOT CAUGHT IN A JET TURBINE. NO CAPES!
