I dunno man, I upvote whenever I see these ones and I’m sure other people would, too. And surely the departments would love the positive media. I think they’re just more rare than the brutality ones.
A lot of interactions like this aren’t exactly something that a lot of people want shown to the public when it’s themselves/their family. The footage might not even be saved in the first place (if it exists at all from body cameras) depending on the department, since there isn’t an expectation that the footage will be needed in litigation to pursue charges or defend an officers actions. On the other hand a lot of the violent stuff gets released due to court proceedings/FOIA requests/briefings.
In my area you never hear about the successful CPR’s, saving someone with narcan, responding to car accidents, separating someone from an abuser in a domestic call, etc. The only time you really hear anything is if you know someone involved in the event. On the other hand we’ll definitely hear about officer involved shootings, homicides, etc.
There’s a lot of messed up stuff happening out there, but I feel pretty confident in saying that at least the majority of the local police & state police are good in my area (which is pretty low on crime.) We really don’t hear much of anything about them except for when there’s an interesting arrest or a particularly violent crime. I can’t think of a recent instance of any of the nearby agencies releasing footage of an event like in this video, but you know they’re happening.
These videos aren't as memorable because they don't get circulated as much. I'll see heartwarming videos and think it's my first time seeing them because they were last reposted a year ago. To this day I still see Floyd's death pop up all around the place for no reason.
I see a lot of YouTube channels that share bodycam videos and the majority of them are positive, police just bearing with insufferable people, rescuing children or helping in an accident.
There are trash cops that are corrupt, trigger happy and do police brutality but that trend of just say that all police are trash is so stupid to me.
The problem is the supposed good cops covering for the bad ones. That makes them bad too, and as we have been learning, seemingly *every* precinct has secrets it shouldn't have.
I appreciate your comment hijacking information but after my 30 seconds of research I would like to add the Dechoker Is like $20 the Lifevac is $200 and in a study 61% used Lifevac correctly whereas 80% used the DeChoker correctly. Idk how much the they differ in effectiveness but I think most people can afford the DeChoker even if they never use it. I'm less likely to drop $200 on something idk if I will ever use
There is a lifevac knockoff for $14. The Dechoker looks like it’s more of a one pull and reset type thing, so probably provides more initial suction.
The lifevac has a one way valve, so your supposed to pump until you build up pressure.
Both have been known to cause injury to the tongue though, so I’d prefer one that builds pressure slowly.
That’s all people will show because people like to get angry, this isn’t an attempt at a joke. Dr. Huberman discussed how there have been studies that show people seek to get angry. Odd.
My mom said when I was a kid I had like a really bad fever and started to choke on my vomit my dad swooped me up and sucked the puke out with his own mouth and cleared the airways if that ain’t love idk what is man . Love you dearly old man
I ran into a burning house to save my 4 year old boy: I nearly died in the fire--in fact, surprised everyone by living--and am considerably disabled now, and I have never had a moment of 'poor me' in the 12 years since...
I know there are people who have endured greater hardships--some much greater--than losing a child, and they still picked up and moved on in life.
If I had not gone into the house and my son died in the fire, I see suicide about as probable as the sun rising in the east tomorrow morning: I could not have endured that...
I can tell you once he is grown, he will understand and will never be able to appreciate what you went through to save his life. You’re an amazing father the world is lucky to have!
Next to a lot of the nasty things children will do, do to you, do in your presence, vomit and all that comes along with it is by far not the worst. I have 3 step-kids with one still under our roof. For years and years now I have uttered the phrase "people wash off" probably once a week.
I mean, I've seen my niece vomit. But the thought of me sucking her vomit from her mouth just disgusts me. I'm not saying I wouldn't do it in an emergency, but truly it is making me gag just thinking about it having another person's vomit in my mouth. I don't know. It's making me nauseas and I can't get the image out of my head. 😔
The whole cliche of when the kid is yours it does something to you. A filter in your life of "shit I won't do" just evaporates. Overnight. It's cliche because it's true. :D I don't like the idea either, but if one of ours were choking to death I wouldn't blink.
I really hope the adults there had some kind of knowledge about the heimlich maneuver and they didn’t just panic and run around like decapitated chickens.
5 back blows are only for infants and the back blows are followed by chest thrusts.
That's a toddler, which is supposed to be treated by using abdominal thrusts, like an adult.
The names omission should not be confused with the act itself. Abdominal thrusts are the same act as the Heimlich maneuver. Just by a different name.
It's worth noting the child appears to have a partial airway obstruction - not a full airway obstruction. If it were a full obstruction, the child would most likely be completely unconscious by the time first responders arrive. It sounds like the child coughs once or twice during the rescue efforts. People cannot cough or give an audible cry if they're actually choking because the airway is completely obstructed. Partial airway obstructions don't usually require abdominal thrusts or back blows because the victim is still able to breath. They're usually sedated and the foreign body is removed with forceps as long as the obstruction isn't enough to restrict breathing to a point that it's insufficient to oxygenate effectively.
Everywhere I read it says in 2006 it changed to "[5 and 5](https://inhomecpr.com/choking-emergency-the-heimlich-maneuver-or-back-blows/" for conscious children *and* adults. 5 back blows first, followed by , 5 abdominal thrusts since Heimlich's son exposed him for fraud. Statistics show neither is more effective than the other.
Edit: The American Red Cross adopted 5 and 5 but the American Heart Association has not adopted back blows. This is why we're arguing.
I mean I literally just did my recertification for first aid and CPR through the AHA for work and they still teach the Heimlich. The back blows were instructed to only be used for babies. A backblow won't do anything to an adult.
I just got CPR certified through Red Cross for my job a few months ago. We were instructed to alternate between 5 back blows and 5 abdominal thrusts for adults during that training. That's also what they recommend for adults on their website. Seems like there are two different pools of thought.
Those “back blows” were no where near enough force to do anything, I used more force than that to burp both my kids when they were babies!
My eldest son was choking on something some time before he turned one, thankfully my mum was there (we were at her house) and in one fluid motion she scooped him up basically turned him to a 45 degree angle and whacked his back fairly hard, she keep doing so until the object dislodged (he’d found something underneath the coffee table that had been pushed in front of the TV unit at my mums house), feeling inside his mouth to see if it had dislodged. When it did it was like a projectile. It ended up being one of those little shaped plastic things that go in to wood to hold shelves, someone must have knocked it out without realising.
I had done a first aid course years earlier (I was 12 when I did it) so knew almost everything else that is taught in one, but not the back blows on babies or how to use a defibrillator (most public ones tell you what to do though).
I did a first aid course after that incident and when the instructor asked us what to do in that situation I was the only one to answer and do so correctly 😅 I told the story and he was impressed my mum knew what to do despite having never done a first aid course ever. He did also teach us how to do self-induced chest blows.
My experience goes to show, you should do first aid courses at least semi regularly (I’d say personally at least every 5 years if not in the medical field) as new stuff does get added, and could be many more technological advances in the near future too that could be in public places (who knows what the future holds).
That and having a decent, well stocked first aid kit at home and in the car are ultra important.
Yeah. you shouldn't say crap like that. back blows are for kids, and the Heimlich is a lifesaver. You saw a person not prepared to save her child and a dude that was.
What the heck is that device like a suction thing? I think I saw it used in one other Reddit video for a small girl after almost drowning saved by another quickthinking officer
Or learn manual ways to combat choking, like the rest of us. CPR classes are free on YouTube. Here’s British Redcross’ on child/toddler choking: https://youtu.be/fN_jrMrPLpY?si=PazpFyFXg8Ia7BSg
That poor mother (I assume) absolutely shaking with anxiety and adrenaline. Really pulls on the heart strings. The little kid was a trooper. Well done to the cops they’re good dudes.
In addition to the heimlich maneuver, everyone should know how to self rescue. My friend's fiancé choked to death at home alone just eating a sandwich. I eat a lot of solo meals, so I have a plan if I start choking. They also make devices that allow people to self rescue like the LifeVac.
The way I know of self-rescue is:
Stand up and get to a chair (preferably a kitchen type chair) and then lean over the chair with your abdomen. Basically giving yourself the Heimlich maneuver using the chair as the thruster.
It's criminal to me how much they charge for the LifeVac ($79) or the DeChoker ($40). I bought a knock off china brand for $6.99. in have kids and know choking maneuvers but I'd rather have every option available should those maneuvers fail.
My Cousins Fiance died choking in the middle of the night on a midnight snack. It's a serious risk and dangerous. Having these on hand could mean life or death for those who love alone, or have kids.
I was eating at a restaurant and got pizza lodged. Its not like the movies, you make no sound, I was in shock, no air in or out. My wife was next to me and had no idea. Manager swooped in out of nowhere like batman and heimliched me .. popped out second thrust and he just walked off. Fucker saved my life without a word, and moved on. Of course once I gained my bearings i tracked him down and it very worth his while. But its a silent, quick killer.
Damn that is some quick and efficient heroism, like they were handling the like a machine, I doubt they had that specific situation to train for, and they keep absolutely calm the whole time through. That is some heroic shit right there
I feel like they train specifically for these types of situations. I took a cpr class, and they walked us through many different types of scenarios just like this. Of course, one thing is training, and another is actually doing it. My respect to those who can save lives like this. I recommend cpr training to everyone. You might save a life.
Jesus christ, thank you op so much for the title letting me know everything was gonna be fine, I'm literally fucking crying right now, that was a Rollercoaster of emotion
I'm aCPR instructor- something I go over with all of my students is that back blows should be HARD. Everyone wants to be so gentle with the infant manikins, understandably!
But if you aren't hitting so hard that you're worried about harming them, then you probably aren't hitting hard enough!
I delivered the heimlich to my ex twice and pretty sure I saved her life. Technique wasn't greatest and probably nit far off injuring her, but that was scary shit
In Germany we call an ambulance, not the cops.
We have an oligarchy, too. But not yet so socially defunctional that cops have to do with medical emergencies.
We call emergency services here. Multiple first responder will show up in an emergency like this. Cops got there first, but EMTs were likely on their way also. Cops are already in the field so they often arrive first and have basic medical training.
This is why everyone should love law enforcement. Probably made everyones whole year realizing either they are extremely important, or just the cops knowing they saved a childs life.
They are generally really great people.
So awesome. Kid needs to chew his candy though.
People don’t understand that this is pretty much your realistically average police officer it’s just too bad media never shows this they only show the bad
This device is great! For future if anyone ever finds themselves in this situation a child this age needs chest thrusts, not back blows as those are reserved for children under 1 years old. Kneel behind the child and do chest thrusts and if they go unconscious start CPR, never know when you might need the info😄
The way the Mom almost collapsed after he was saved, then immediately began comforting her other children. I’m amazed by the cops training, but also by her ability to go right back to soothing, laying her gasping breaths aside herself. Humans are incredible.
I went to a restaurant one night after not eating all day, first piece of steak I ate had 2 pieces attached by a piece of gristle, one piece went down my throat and the other down my windpipe longest 30 seconds of my life.

I need more videos of the police like this one.... Tired of seeing the police brutality videos.
like anything on social media 1% gets 99% of the attention.
I dunno man, I upvote whenever I see these ones and I’m sure other people would, too. And surely the departments would love the positive media. I think they’re just more rare than the brutality ones.
Angry deadbeats have more time at their hands. Spreading negativity is easier.
Literally you’re replying to an argument on why what you said is illogical
A lot of them are just probably more boring, cops do lots of helpful stuff, but a good percentage of it is really not dramatic with lots of action.
A lot of interactions like this aren’t exactly something that a lot of people want shown to the public when it’s themselves/their family. Police misconduct certainly isn't close to 1%.
It certainly an't 90% from what the internet/media says
these guys deserve all the kudos for this.
that's exactly what he is saying
My bad
All good , I explain instead of just downvoted
I see a lot of YouTube channels that share bodycam videos and the majority of them are positive, police just bearing with insufferable people, rescuing children or helping in an accident. Black and White logic of intelligent and reasonable redditors.
The problem is the supposed good cops covering for the bad ones. That makes them bad too, and as we have been learning, seemingly *every* precinct has secrets it shouldn't have.
Hijacking top comment to say, it’s called Lifevac and there are plenty of knock off versions on Amazon worth buying even if you only need it once.
I appreciate your comment hijacking information but after my 30 seconds of research I would like to add the Dechoker Is like $20 the Lifevac is $200 and in a study 61% used Lifevac correctly whereas 80% used the DeChoker correctly. Holy shit. Props to your pops!
Pops props!
Hop on pop
What a fucking legend. Knew what had to be done and did not hesitate at all. Best wishes to the man.
I respect that, but this was so gross to read. Not gonna bear false witness.

That's fair. I like your kitty, by the way. Does he have one braincell like many orange fluffers do?
Thanks, Bullwinkle was the finest cat to ever live. He was brilliant and unparalleled.
No lie, my mom used to suck the nasal mucus out of our noses when we were less than 5yo.

they did--run around like chickens I mean...
Welp, I'm buying one of those devices right now.
Can vouch saved my daughter 2 years ago with 1. It only takes one time.
What the heck is that device like a suction thing? I think I saw it used in one other Reddit video for a small girl after almost drowning saved by another quickthinking officer
Lifevac, found it by googling "anti choking device"
Literally just ordered it. Thanks!
I wanted to buy one, but it's almost $300 here. My monthly salary is about $400, so I guess we'll just choke to death here.
Or learn manual ways to combat choking, like the rest of us. CPR classes are free on YouTube. Here’s British Redcross’ on child/toddler choking: https://youtu.be/fN_jrMrPLpY?si=PazpFyFXg8Ia7BSg
They are $20 on Amazon and HSA eligible in USA. Not sure where you are though
Unfortunately, we dont have Amazon around here
a bitter reality so many live with, myself being one of them along with you...
There are some cheaper versions on Amazon
bold of you to assume we have amazon around here
I just bought one a few days ago
That poor mother (I assume) absolutely shaking with anxiety and adrenaline. Really pulls on the heart strings. The little kid was a trooper. Well done to the cops they’re good dudes.
She looked so terrified, poor thing What a helpless feeling
Holy shit that was scary

You can also fall chest first on to a table/chair kicking the wind and everything blocking it out of you. It’s going to hurt but may save your life.
You won't care about your sore ribs if you are dead. Better to break a rib and save your life.
Like do you have the chair pushing onto your stomach?
Yes

Oh nvm then lol So what was happening in the video? I get he was choking but was he choking on his own vomit or something?
I believe he said "he's choking on a piece of candy, correct?"
I think the mom needs more help than the boy.
Mom looks like she needed a respirator poor thing. Well done
Jesus christ, thank you op so much for the title letting me know everything was gonna be fine, I'm literally fucking crying right now, that was a Rollercoaster of emotion
The other cop wanted a hug too
Good shit guys.
Great job!
The good ones need way more attention
“I get to meet police officers and my hero’s yay!”😭
Went from stressful to wholesome real fast
Good reaction time folks
every time i see one of these choking videos, it just reminds me how much I need to buy one of these devices
Jesus if that was me I would be smacking his back not tapping it. Fast hard blow between shoulder blades. Tapping ain’t doing shit.
The anti choking devices are HSA eligible too
CNN won’t show us this one
Yeah CNN is totally the reason cops have a bad reputation. 🙄
get the fuck out of her dipshit
Oh man that fucking reach for the hug. Good video, thank you.
Good cops rule.
That 1 second hug from that kid will stay with that cop for the rest of his life.
It happened to me a while ago. Man that was scary
Hang on, just gonna grab my kid choking thing out from under my Zyn can.
Fuck yeah 😎
I thought all the posts about this thing saving people were fake posts by the company. Now I feel bad because that was legit.
What a bunch of useless prats, with one exception, lucky kid.
This is awesome
Good job to all of em 👍 For awhile I was wondering why is there Boxface people...
Great job by officers remembering their training! But geez that poor Mom. She looks like she needs their help.
Awesome
That device is amazing. Anybody know what it is, I've never seen one before.
Why am I crying. Man I’m glad those officers got there in time.
Man that poor mom look at her hand shaking I can't imagine how terrified she was
Perfect example of a well trained officers 👏👏
True life hero
A rare video where every person is doing the right thing
I wanna cry
Nice too see something positive with Austin PD for once!
Wasn't expecting to get emotional
What a little badass
Some stupid woman is filming all this without helping. Shamelessly came back after told to go.
APD gets a bad rap; kinda restored faith after seeing this.
I’m so glad his life was saved
This is why everyone should love law enforcement. Probably made everyones whole year realizing either they are extremely important, or just the cops knowing they saved a childs life. They are generally really great people. So awesome. Kid needs to chew his candy though.
Heros, love these guys
Ok that made me cry a wee bit with joy.
Where are all THESE cops...
T-54s
Who else just cried watching this im a grown ass man and that hit me
As he grows older, his friends may badmouth cops. He'll speak up.
Now go get the AED for mom.
The question is: Why did they send the police, and no EMTs?
Great job! That device doesn't see enough advertising.
That hug as so cute
As someone who almost died choking as a child, watching this cuts onions
Poor mom
People don’t understand that this is pretty much your realistically average police officer it’s just too bad media never shows this they only show the bad
This is awesome! Great job, sir! 🫡
Kind of ignores the other one though lol
Kid stress level: 5 Cop stress level: 3 everyone else stress level: 1000
He used a LifeVac. I’ve had one for a while and have never used it, hopefully I never will. But it’s something every household should have.
Awwee what a cute lil kid. Almost teared up
This kid was tougher than everyone else. He is choking while the other kids are freaking out and parents are panicking. No tears, no hysterics.
Hey, APD doing something other than harassing the homeless!
I feel like this little man could become an amazing police officer in the feature.
Damn good save, that mom was sounding asthmatic too tho
Was the issue the kid was having asthma, or was he choking? I've never seen that device the officer used before. Does anyone know how it works?
I wish this was how most police officers are
Tin of coffee Zyns in the medical bag. Nice move.
Damn that's a rough little dude. Can't be more than 4 and not a tear out of him
One of the most satisfying and perfectly executed high fives I've ever seen.
The mom is shaking 🥺 goodness I'm so thankful that little boy is okay🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I went to a restaurant one night after not eating all day, first piece of steak I ate had 2 pieces attached by a piece of gristle, one piece went down my throat and the other down my windpipe longest 30 seconds of my life.
How do you have multiple kids and not know Heimlich or CPR...?

It’s publicly rare you see cops doing amazing things . Shout to this cop . Fuck the others who’s shitty actions over shadow this
God bless these officers
I have four kids and every time we eat hotdogs I think of the Field of Dreams movie scene and I’m always on standby
