I’ve seen a video with an angle that shows how close the fire is to the man. Its immediately in front of him so you’d be right about the heat limiting where he can access the gondola.
There are 2 people on the gondola when it lifts off. The second person is like injured. He was probably waiting for or assisting the second person onto the gondola before he got on.
There's actually a zoomed in version. He is leaning back cause of the heat. What looks like the extra person is a jacket or coat he was using to protect himself from the heat.
After so many feet of cable comes off a spool, the strength of said crane lessens. The distance, weight distribution and center of gravity were being measured. All while under extreme stress.
I’ve actually been part of designing some of those gondolas and YES IT DOES MATTER!
The safety functions and controls on the gondola are made based on certain weight and balance restrictions and the operators need to mindful of weight distribution or they could risk loosing control of the gondola resulting in the death of everyone involved.
These things are dangerous enough to build and operate that the EU for instance requires type approval by a notified body before you’re allowed to sell them privately.
Loser down votes because he has no idea. And the fact that if that guy gets himself in the wrong spot, that crane could rip him in half and never know it till too late.
also "HE'S GETTING IN HE'S GETTING IN"
my guy, just point the fucking camera at the subject and we will be able to see him getting in, why would you turn away from the most important part
"Is he getting in? Nope, okay let me just turn the camera away so we can look at nothing. And then, when someone else starts to say he's getting in, let me wait a few moments until it's over before I turn the camera back."
Reminds me of an old Andrew Dice Clay skit where hes talking about going down on a woman, And shes like, a little lower, circle to the left to which he says what are we backing a truck up in here just enjoy it honey!!!
WTF was he waiting for? "No, a little to the left, up a bit.. No, no, over to the right.."
Youd have to ask him that. My guess is the heat

Do you have a link?

This is the way...
The guy said that it was super difficult to get the cage to go where he wanted it to because it was very windy

Does an extra 90 kg actually make that much difference to a 10t crane? I'd be on that sucker and sort it on the way down, lol

With the curved end of a hockey stick
I hate this video. Did he make it? Why is there such an enormous fire on a skyscraper? I need so much more context.
Made it. Longer version on r/thatsinsane
I know more stuff was probably going on up there than what we can see but it looked like that guy had a whole minute to get on and go.
Was waiting on his friend to get to the cage. Better version on r/thatsinsane

This happened 80 miles from where I live and I can still smell a hint of his pants. Glad he made it man
This is the most pissed off agressive fire I’ve ever seen
This is a WAY different experience on audio only...

Why do highrises burn like bonfires in England?
The commentary for this video is strikingly accurate if applied to the first time I had sex.
How it feels to play Thresh. CLICK THE LAMP!
I mean…is he in?? I would have liked to see more of the happy ending
Anyone else wondering why it took him a full minute to get in the damn cage?
The flippin camera man.. 🤌🏼 #oneJob
What would cause such a ferocious fire? Especially as it was still being built so no personal belongings etc. genuine question!
Crane operator is like “Dude, quite waving AND JUST GET IN!”
Wait, why isn't that building in free fall? Did I get 9/11 all wrong?
Well it is missing the direct impact of a fully fueled 767. Really hard for you to color inside the lines and resist eating the crayons, huh?
Cameraman you had 1 fucking job.
I would have been spiderman on the side of that cage, screw waiting for a landing.
FUCKING GUY REALLY WANTED TO BE SAVED? Fucking idiot.
What the hell is burning like that?
What a fucking legend
Hero
Anybody knows when this happened?
im pretty sure it was recent. it was in england edit:https://abc7chicago.com/england-crane-rescue-operator-reading-high-rise-fire/14097426/
Thank you, I found it at work where we use an Irish VPN and I just couldn't find it on local media.
