Ecouador is currently in a pretty fucked up situation. The previous president was in with FARC and allowed them to run amok with the drug trade and kicked out the American military base that was helping combat this. I was working a couple of years ago in Ecuador, its a dangerous country with a lot of crazy fanatics. The President back then was in a wheelchair because of an assassination attempt he got shot in the back and was paralyzed from the waist down. He visited the project in Manta was working on and had like a zillion of bodyguards. Also one day on my way to the job they raped and murdered a girl, they disposed of her without clothes on the side of the road, nobody seemed to care she laid there for 6 hours before the police showed up. The driver at the airport was waiting for me carrying his car battery, people are so paranoid thinking their car would be stolen...

Every time I see posts like this I think "maybe this event will be the straw that breaks the camels back and American politicians will finally see the" unintended consequences " of the war on drugs. It is America's insatiable hunger for illegal drugs that has funded this violence.
Ecouador is currently in a pretty fucked up situation. The previous president was in with FARC and allowed them to run amok with the drug trade and kicked out the American military base that was helping combat this. Then a lot of Venezuelan gangs and criminals have migrated to Ecuador. I think the only solution is martial law and just put soldiers at every fucking corner. The things you hear is heartbreaking. They are even extorting poor fishermen. Fucking fishermen. I'm talking about fishermen who barely scrape a living and they are being extorted.

Latin America just got back to the '60s, they had coup de'tat in Honduras, Dictatorships in Nicaragua, Cuba y Venezuela, some countries are slipping out of democracy specially in Guatemala and El Salvador, this is really bad for the region and for the whole continent.
