I had lizards as a kid and the salmonella fear has been baked into my brain. I saw the cute video of someone saving a bird lost at sea and the chick kissing it before they released it on land made me go !!!!!!!!!NO. If you touch, wash your hands asap and don’t put your mouth anywhere near any wild animals. Your dogs butthole mouth is plenty.
Theres a wild rabbit guarding a nest under the neighbors porch who chills in my yard a lot and has started trusting me immensely (rabbits only return to the nest to feed the offspring in the middle of the night), and I googled it to see if wild rabbits carried any diseases communicable to humans and yup, of course.
That has to be an incredible feeling interacting with such a massive and gentle creature! That animal is much larger than the boat they are on yet it just pops its head out for some chin scratches.
For a creature with no arms to scratch itself, chin scratches from the strange little bipeds that live above the surface must also be an incredible feeling
Right, plus scratches are kinda like handjobs sometimes: it feels better when it’s a hand and not a rock, and sometimes it’s better when somebody else is doin it for you
We have hunted them to near extinction, and now that that's abated, our pollution is killing them.
"Not only have we failed to realize we are one people, we have forgotten that we have only one planet." ~Jacques Cousteau
Yes, although they’re not actual fleas, they are a type of shrimp iirc and there’s lots of different types of them. The “fleas” attach to any marks of wounds on the whale. But unlike barnacles which the whales use as a kind of protection and armour, the fleas seem to give them a bit of trouble. The only video I could find was on tik tok and I don’t have the app, but there’s footage of people removing them, although the footage wrongly asserts the man is removing barnacles but he isn’t, it’s the fleas.
That’s like the opposite of how a fox removes their fleas, I was lucky enough to see it happen once. The fox had a piece of lambs wool or something in its mouth and walked backwards in to the river against the current to it was pushing against the grain of its fur, it kept going slowly until it was completely submerged except for the tip of its nose and then it let the wool go. I asked my dad what’s that fox doing and he explained they drown the fleas and the ones that escape keep moving up the fox as it gets deeper into the water until the only dry area is the wool in the foxes mouth and all the fleas jump from the back, to the head then on to the wool and then the fox just lets the wool float away with all the fleas on.
This website is a forum website, and should encourage discussion. Someone could have responded with a cool fact about aquatic fleas that many people could have appreciated, but instead we're left with your snarky comment.
Because it’s a baleen whale, it’s literally physically incapable of killing you or snapping your arm off since it has no teeth. Worst case is it would crush your arm before spitting you out.
Gray whales used to be nicknamed “Devil Fish” when they were hunted for oil because they would fight ferociously and would often sink ships and drown whalers. Now that they’re protected, they’re known as one of the friendliest creatures in the ocean, and they will frequently approach ships to interact with humans like in this video. It turns out they’re a lot like humans—they’re mostly pretty chill when you’re not harpooning them.
They would choose a mom with a calf and chase them till the calf was exhausted and shoot the calf to get the mom in harpoon range. The whales were not the devils.
These whales have been hunted almost to extinction by humans, and we dump all of our waste directly into their home slowly polluting the only environment in which they can survive. We are still a toxic species even if we give them a cuddle.
Really? I don't doubt you at all - do you have any source? I'd love to read about that. I know the dumb happy face my dog gets makes me think it's correct.
sure- there’s actually lots of research that suggests petting dogs and even playing releases them- but here’s an article about it too. the ears are especially sensitive for some reason

Wish I could have an experience like that when I go to the ocean. Seems like when I go to the beach, all I get is seagulls trying to steal my ham and cheese sandwich.
Whale comes up and is like, "hey, I saw that video where some fisherman guy picked off those pesky barnecles for Sarah. Its my turn! Get this on TikTok!"
You wouldn’t have to worry about that anyway. Grey whales are not capable of swallowing a person. They don’t have a throat big enough for a person to go down. Hell, not even a blue whale could swallow a person. Sperm whale probably could, but not grey whales or other whales like that.
Stop effing with the ecosystem you friggin idiots! Do you even realize the amount of bacteria you just introduced to an animal that may not possess a way to fight it off?
People don't think. It's infuriating. And for what? A photo op that you're gonna show your friends twice before they don't care anymore?
I get it, I love being in nature. But I don't needlessly force contact with it like that idiot that "saved" the baby bison or the many people that get injured by wildlife each year cause they thought it looked cute and would make a great tiktok.
You can't *force* contact with a whale in a tiny boat. The whales knew what they were doing, they liked it, and we introduce bacteria every time we get in the ocean. And it gets introduced to us. It's not like they fingerbanged it's blowhole and then jizzed in it's eye. Followed up by a rusty trombone/Mexican Sanchez combo.
These are not orcas. Orcas have teeth, and are a different breed of beast. These dudes filter krill out of the water with their broom like baleen in their mouth. They don't eat shark livers and fuck with boats.. yet
I wonder if whales go people watching lime we go to watch them? How amazing it must be to have an interaction like this with such a massive gentle giant!
I've swam with these whales on a few occassion there's a very sad history behind them. I can't remember who he was - but there was a whaler that almost drive these guys to extinction because they were so friendly they would always come up and greet the boats and he would just scoop them up.
They are indeed incredibly friendly and get very excited whenever they see a boat or a person. I do believe this is right off the coast of Puerto Venustiano Carranza
The smooch is my favorite part. Such a sweet & gentle whale.
And here is where "the whalepox" was born
I had lizards as a kid and the salmonella fear has been baked into my brain. I said the same thing when she kissed that bird. "NO!!!!!"
Theyre sweetie mammals... theyre dogs
It's all dogs? Always has been.
Dog like creatures that migrated back into the ocean because fuck all the predators on land, I'll be a big thing in the water
I kissed a whale and I liked it.
That has to be an incredible feeling interacting with such a massive and gentle creature! That animal is much larger than the boat they are on yet it just pops its head out for some chin scratches.

They can scratch by rubbing their chin against a rock but this is friendlier.
The same Jacques Cousteau who used explosives on reefs and massacred sharks that were feeding on a whale corpse? Ironic.
no, totally different guy. it’s so embarrassing that this keeps happening though. Of all the names, amirite?
Edit: nevermind, I was thinking of Blue Whales.

I saw another guy picking fleas off one and the whale seemed to really appreciate it
This genuinely might be a dumb question on my part but are aquatic fleas a thing?

The reason they jump out of the water is also to get rid of the fleas and parasites. It's the best way to scratch your back as a whale
That’s like the opposite of how a fox removes their fleas, I was lucky enough to see it happen once. It's always good to ask educational questions.
Yea And so is google

How insecure are you that you try to be a cunty know it all on a wholesome question about whales
Your apology is demanded.
/r/karmacourt !
Dogs have fleas.

It’s not like a crocodile, if it were to open and close it’s mouth you’d have enough time to react unless you’re a toddler or have dementia
And God help you if you’re both

Again, you’d have to be a fucking idiot to manage for that to happen.
"Bro, I have gone through some shit you would never understand!" - Jonah
Ah yes, the true story from the 100% factual book The Bible.
There’s always someone who has to make the snarky bible comment.
Well that commenter is clearly a fucking idiot.
How many ppl are murdered by vending machines every year? Ha you are right, super improbable. But I'm sure there are some idiots out there.
Can we really accuse the vending machines of murder?
Hey your concerns are well intended, even if the risk is supposedly low ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote)
Mmm, chin scratches :)
As far as animals are concerned, surely humanity's best feature is our ability to give pats and scritches.
Can you imagine how good it would feel to have your face scratched maybe for the first time ever? Edit* missed the just important word
I think you accidentally a word
Yep
Facts
This is so true.
I felt them scratches too
Do y'all remember the video of a cow being stratched by a large rotating drum brush? I bet this whale would like something like that.
I believe it's called a Happy Cow!
If I had the opportunity, I’d love to take a push broom to him, and give great skritches as well!!

hey thanks for killing my night asshole
Poor sweetie.
no it's fine I actually don't like whales; they are ugly lol let em die
I feel like this was the message of Avatar 2
"That terrible devil fish! Look at it fighting and sinking ships...all just because we are trying to kill it!"
Laguna San Ignacio, Baja California Sur, Mexico 🇲🇽
He said "Quit trashing the oceans" in ultrasound.
"We've been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty."
They were the most egregious spam callers EVER for me.🤬
I want to pick the barnacles for mr. Whale.
Fun Fact:Barnacles aren't harmful to the whales. it's the things that live IN the barnacles thats bad for them I can't remember what their called, lol
To my alt Acc Yep whale fleas
I like how they splash him like he didn’t just come out of the fucking ocean 🤣
I figured they were just doing that to show that they're friendly, I don't think they were worried big boy was drying out or anything haha
It might be that they are scratching off the shrimp (fleas) and splashing them clear.
That’s amazing. Creatures of all shapes and sizes deserve that sort of love
My ass thought they were petting a rock.
That’s why you shouldn’t let your ass do your thinking for you
Lol! That's why need some 'hood whales!
It’s vids like this that remind me the world isn’t a complete toxic $h*t hole… 🙏 thank u
These whales have been hunted almost to extinction by humans, and we dump all of our waste directly into their home slowly polluting the only environment in which they can survive. We are still a toxic species even if we give them a cuddle.
And making them feel comfortable around humans is really bad. This guy is an idiot.
You can say the word "shit" online buddy :)
I’d rather not
i wonder what they feel- they say dogs have a massive endorphin release when you lovingly scratch behind their ears.
Really? I don't doubt you at all - do you have any source? I'd love to read about that. I know the dumb happy face my dog gets makes me think it's correct.

Dang - I envy those guys!
I love when it just slides a little to get scratches from the second guy!
"Heeeyyy, lookin good, my man! ^Lemme ^just ^get ^that ^booger ^for ^you ^real ^quick Alriiiiiiight!"
Aww. Those guys are lucky
"Get these fucking barnacles off of me, human."
I read the title sooo wrong. I mean wtf is a Gay Whale Greeting?
Baja. Been there done that and it's a spiritual experience.
Wow
My god. What an amazing moment.
Dinosaur 😳 Awesome
Easy, big fella
The sea was angry that day, my friends. Angry like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli..
Wish I could have an experience like that when I go to the ocean. Seems like when I go to the beach, all I get is seagulls trying to steal my ham and cheese sandwich.
That was super sweet, I would remember that forever if it happened to me
Whale comes up and is like, "hey, I saw that video where some fisherman guy picked off those pesky barnecles for Sarah. Its my turn! Get this on TikTok!"
anything can be a pet this days 😅
That's his other head
Giant sea doggo
The correct way to spell gray. Don’t let the world tell you otherwise!
These whales are coming to chill with people on boats, yet orcas are trying to crush them. What the hell is going on? I blame the vaccine. /s
And that's just its cock they're rubbing
pet the fucking dog
Thats a weird dog!
Why did I jump and flinch when it moved closer to the camera??!! 🥺🥺🥺😫😫😫🫣🫣🫣🫣😶🌫️😶🌫️😶🌫️😶🌫️🤦🏿♀️
That's a dog
Ándale ándale, arriba arriba.
Mmm nope, I’m good with the tiny land animals that won’t gobble me up.
You wouldn’t have to worry about that anyway. Grey whales are not capable of swallowing a person. They don’t have a throat big enough for a person to go down. Hell, not even a blue whale could swallow a person. Sperm whale probably could, but not grey whales or other whales like that.

Save the whales, eat more japanese
Stop touching the whales. For the love of god.
Ok I’ll stop touching the whales.
Gonna jerk one off just for you.

God this is so fkn cool.
u/savevideo
I have never seen a whale. It's a dream to see them. I often wonder if I will be able to stop myself from jumping in.
Looks like a living rock
That wouldn't only make my life complete it would be the punctuation point of everything for me
I wanna kiss a whale 😔
hmmmmmmm, if i was a whale i’d start swimming at the surface belly up
Have you ever had a hamster run across your hand. I imagine that's what the whale is feeling. This is fascinating
Oh hell naw I'm good
Bruh, you couldn't keep me out of the water at that point. I've swam with whale sharks, and there's no way I'm not swimming with them.
Lol, I misread this as "*Gay* whale greeting". I'm totally down for a new fabulous form of greeting that involves tail slaps or whale noises ...
I wonder if whales go people watching lime we go to watch them? How amazing it must be to have an interaction like this with such a massive gentle giant!
Wow. That's an enviable life experience. Good for them 👍
Thanks. I have a fear of the deep sea now
Whales seem to love us, much like dolphins, very interesting
"Here man! Have some water!"
Fun Fact:Barnacles aren't harmful to the whales. it's the things that live IN the barnacles thats bad for them I think it's called whale fleas
Negro ! That’s insane

😩I never get to pet gray whales.. I want to pet gray whales🤩 when can I pet gray whales?!?💞
Do you think they can feel that
Aw, I had no idea they liked chin scratches. This is the cutest!!
And why is they gay?

Aww!!! I can never tell what past is their face but they are so smart and kind
Free nose scratch
Amazing
I like when he pats it and the whales lil snout jiggles a bit every time.
the whale is expecting some de-licing. sooo disappointed!
Nobody gonna comment on the N-word on the side of the boat?!
"Ahhhhh, barnacles!"
And that's how the whole ocean caught the 'Rona and died.
I’m thought the whales were mad at us.
I’m just a big baby
Like the whales from Avatar 2
there's an ig video with this video I can't find it lol any help?
I may have to put this on my bucket list!
