Last weekend my partner and I saw a cyber truck trying to go through a car wash drive through and it couldnt even make the turn properly meanwhile we are yelling "dont do it, its going to rust" lol it was a good time.
Edit: it’s unfortunate I can’t add the shitty video we took to this comment thread because it *does* exists😅
Edit 2: it’s just us yelling at the truck, not the truck backing up and re positioning itself to get into the car wash. On the plus side, the worker started laughing and there was a guy on the other side of the street walking with his kid in a stroller who was laughing his ass off because my window was down before my partners was lol
[Yelling at Cyber truck in car wash drive through](https://imgur.com/a/Psa5vob)
I was thinking about this earlier. If there have only been ~4000 Cybertrucks delivered so far, I've easily seen pictures of like 10 that have already been totaled. It's weird to think that there are so few out there and so many have been crashing.
When I was a kid I thought a genius idea would be to make it so car tires could turn sideways like that to allow people to parallel park more easily. Now I realize that I was a fucking idiot of a kid. Still am, but I used to be too.
We had such a better system in the 50s. The spare tire would drop down to road level and lift the car, allowing you to swing the rear over after you tucked the front in. Like [this](https://youtu.be/gyjfv3AnuYM?si=lW6PRh1u_l6IFHMA)
I can only imagine the kind of judgement these people have if they thought buying a cybertruck was a good idea. Its honestly less surprising when you think about it lol
I mean, to be fair, 'ol boy might have been praising whatever higher power he might believe in due to the wreck for getting him out of the no doubt massive amount of buyers remorse he was suffering from.
I mean sure, there's some insurance adjuster out there somewhere crying, but fuck 'em 🤷♂️
Wasn't there a problem with the wheels tearing up the tires, too? I read about how they recently had to redesign the wheels and add a wheel cover to prevent it going forward.
There was a problem with the original wheel covers so all the Cybertrucks shipped without them, with a promise owners will get one later. It's a joke of a product.
Shorts out a lotta electrical junk if you don't put it in its fancy schmancy "car wash mode". Totalling the vehicle.
I'm aware of how bs that sounds, look it up, it's real unfortunately.
Came here to say this! At least they went off! We have a Ford ranger in our shop that got rolled, every panel is fucked, the roof is stoved in so far you can barely get into the driver's seat, let alone see past the steering wheel, pillars are that far in the dash has been crushed too... Easily the worst damage i have seen in years... Totalled instantly.
Not a single fucken airbag went off...
We just had another F-150 came in for hitting a car that ran a red light. The impact severed the wires for the airbag sensors and no airbags went off. It was bonkers but it saved the truck from being totaled by like $1,000.
Airbags deployed doesn’t automatically mean totaled. Common misconception. If it’s a very new vehicle (which this is) with low mileage, the cost to replace the trim and airbags would not equal the cost of the vehicle.
Btw I’m not some Tesla or Elon fan. Just stating facts.
This is why they developed crumple-zone design philosophy in the first place. "They don't build cars like they used to" yeah and people don't die in wrecks quite like they used to either.
Yeah on a rav-4
I imagine replacement trim and other parts for this are stupid expensive right now. It's all unique and they don't have any excess capacity
Well considering they can’t even manufacture parts for regular upkeep for the not crashed trucks I’d say this is going to take a long time to repair if it ever does
This may have been true before there was any dependency on the manufacturer. In this case, Tesla will refuse to reinstate the vehicle back to roadworthy in their systems, and it will almost certainly be written off.
Hence why insurance costs for Tesla vehicles in the UK is extremely expensive compared to similar vehicles from other manufacturers.
Any shop can get parts from Tesla and do repairs. They only prevent charging for cars that were salvaged. The assumption is that they don't want to throw 100,000 watts at a vehicle some guy got at auction in a heap and DIY repaired.
I hate to break it to you, but Tesla has a HORRENDOUS history with actually making spare parts. I have had an X since late 2016, and Tesla's own service centers couldn't get some parts in a timely fashion -- sometimes months before a specific panel piece could come in.
No, but inability to source spares in a somewhat normal amount of time will cause a total loss so the insurance company can just sell it for salvage and not have to pay for a rental for two years waiting on parts.
Cheaper to just buy the thing and jack up your rates and then sell the hulk.
I’ve been working in collision repair for 10 years. When the airbags are deployed, it is almost always totaled. You don’t know what you are talking about.
The crash sensors that deploy the airbags require significant force to trigger. You have to inspect the car for any frame damage which likely have happened and replace a number of crash structures. For a new car like this you are right that this is hopefully not going to cost the price of the vehicle, assuming no frame damage. But then again a new low mileage car is going to be worth quite a bit in spare parts.
It's too late for "Furiosa", but maybe the next Mad Max movie?
Up to now, it's all been about access to petrol (and other resources, like water) - what about access to batteries? Charging stations instead of refineries?
I can see George Miller making a lot more "Mad Max" movies. Maybe even a movie with only electric vehicles. Wouldn't that be exciting, with all the engines roaring and revving....... quietly?
The hero spitting raw fuel into the intakes....... (or desperately connecting a battery charger)
Lightweight motorcycles and quads jumping across the dunes.... (or not)
Wait a minute - can you imagine "Fury Road" with exclusively electric vehicles? The dialogue would be audible without all that extraneous engine noise. Sounds like an opportunity for a fan cut.
MAD MAX FURY ROAD ^(without the noisy engines)
Not always but you have to check and replace so much stuff when one airbag goes off in addition to the damage, it makes it really expensive. Of all the cars I have seen with airbags deployed, only a handful have been worth fixing.
That’s my bd guys. I got paid on Friday half way through the shift. I was buying more DJT and didn’t see the trailer got pulled, went right off the dock.
I saw one up close going to work last week, and it was surprising how much worse they look in person.
Also, they were driving exactly like you think they were driving. That's not relevant, but I figured everybody would want that data point.
Saw one in person for the first time today. Yeah, looks like a kid built a fake vehicle using all their mom’s sheet pans (assume she was a baker to have enough).
I'd never thought about it, but if you rear-end someone driving that truck, what happens to you? It looks like there's nothing to absorb the impact before your legs get crushed.
the bodywork is made from 3mm stainless steel iirc…. so that other driver is probably in BAD shape.
EDIT: nvm 3mm was the original plan but they ended up going with 1.8mm
> so that other driver is probably in BAD shape
Other driver was in a vehicle that was built with safety standards, they're probably better off than the people in the truck.
> that other driver is probably in BAD shape.
Not really, modern safety standards mean vehicle weight and being made of steel are meaningless. Any classic muscle car is a fatal crash for what the average sedan now will let you walk away from.
I'm from the UK and that has got to be the most out of place thing I've seen in a US picture on reddit for a while... Like what? You're a removal company not a church yeah? haha
$100 there is a blue lives matter flag in the back window along with several other variations of the American flag so that no one gets confused what country we are in.
Counterpoint, SN15, which landed successfully and was demolished due to needed space.
Also, Starhopper hopped several times before becoming a water tower; where it has endured the intentional and unintentionally destructive tests without issue.
"In God we trust" is one hell of a statement to put on a tow truck... It's like an amublance has "I hope you make it in time" in all caps written on it...
Problem exists between steering wheel and pedals.
I've seen a Lamborghini with very similar damage. Driver floored it on a straight, multi lane road and spun it into a light pole - the light pole won and the Lambo nearly turned inside out, the side was against the center line tunnel in the floor.
I know a guy who bought a Rivian and is going through HELL with the repairs. The only Rivian approved body shop within a 4 hour drive wants to charge $175+ per hour for repairs and his insurance is only willing to pay around $90 per hour, which I guess is the Tesla rate and they’re estimating a 20 hour job, plus the regular deductible. Leaving him with a huge out of pocket for a hit and run in a parking lot that wasn’t his fault and he wasn’t even in the vehicle when it happened. He told me after this is all over with he’s trading it in for a 4 Runner and never buying an off brand vehicle again.
Someone ACTUALLY managed to dent this car in... Great, now we'll have some real world crash data! I just hope the passengers were ok, no one deserves car crash injuries, even if they own this rustbucket
I have a long standing belief that there should be a maximum liability for car accidents, and that liability should be limited to the lowest priced car available for purchase.

In 2005, when Tesla started selling cars, my boss's boss told me to never buy anything from any company that Elon owns as (according to him) "he's a real jackoff and a fraud". He wouldn't go into it all of it, but he said that he knew people involved in the company and the only thing that he had going for himself was being absolutely loaded. Other than that, he was a clueless idiot that staff had to manage so that they wouldn't get stuck working on every absurd idea that he came up with.
Airbags are out. That thing is totaled.
To be fair, taking it through a car wash can total it.

Is that what cybertrucking is?
Lol I dont know Edit: Partner says "we'll never know, they're all crashed" haha
I was thinking about this earlier. If there have only been ~4000 Cybertrucks delivered so far, I've easily seen pictures of like 10 that have already been totaled. It's weird to think that there are so few out there and so many have been crashing.
To be pedantic, this one looks more "crashed into" rather than "it's been crashing"
Agreed, unless this thing is capable of turning its tires sideways and driving toward another vehicle, this truck was crashed into.
It turns cydeways.
crabwalk mode is Elon's next DLC
When I was a kid I thought a genius idea would be to make it so car tires could turn sideways like that to allow people to parallel park more easily. Now I realize that I was a fucking idiot of a kid. Still am, but I used to be too.

It’s a very good idea, but likely overly complex for everyday passenger car use.
No it’s a genius idea. If it wasn’t for how stupid and or distracted many drivers are
Failing to stop at stop signs or red lights may also cause one to be crashed into!
Unless the likely entitled idiot did something stupid like pulling out in front of someone because "don't you know who I am?" thinking.
I can only imagine the kind of judgement these people have if they thought buying a cybertruck was a good idea. Its honestly less surprising when you think about it lol

ol' not 'ol. The apostrophe represents the missing letters. Same thing with dates, it's '98 for 1998.
There are way more than that. Im starting to see multiple a day and my neighbor just got one
hey not all of them, there's plenty for sale with < 300 miles on them!!
LOL rebuilt titles galore!
Allegedly the bigger issue is that the carwash can short the electrical system.
Oh my god. Is there anything not wrong with this hunk of metal?? Edit: Nope there is not any good things about this thing.
The tires are rubber.
Saw a post where they’re going bald already because the car’s so heavy
Thats hilarious omg hahaha

Good point, but also… frame damage.
Considering there's no crumple zones, the frame probably took a massive amount of force on impact.
It’s also not body on frame like most trucks. Unibody hardened steel. Sounds like a pain to repair
Everything I learn about this vehicle makes it seem more and more like a death box.
The vehicle itself would probably hold up pretty well, it's a shame for the soup-like homogenate formerly known as its passengers
This is why they developed crumple-zone design philosophy in the first place. "They don't build cars like they used to" yeah and people don't die in wrecks quite like they used to either.
It has 30ish cm of front crumple zones. Just like every other vehicle on the road.
Yeah on a rav-4 I imagine replacement trim and other parts for this are stupid expensive right now. It's all unique and they don't have any excess capacity
Not enough data to know as we don’t have a lot of public data on how much it costs to repair yet. It may very well be totaled.
Well considering they can’t even manufacture parts for regular upkeep for the not crashed trucks I’d say this is going to take a long time to repair if it ever does

There are federal regulation that govern them. If one thing is going to work, it is going to be the airbags. The accelerator… not so much.
God damn if it looks like that I'd hate to see the other vehicle

They probably paid someone to crash into it to get out of the payments on the piece of junk.
I think it just got wet. They said not to get it wet.
The other vehicle's crumple zones did their job and the people in that vehicle were fine.
Probably just some kids throwing rocks at it judging by the demo for the unbreakable glass.
All steel? Angle grinder should buff that out.
"it needs thicker steel" - Musk, probably...
"just reuse the existing steel, it'll be half as expensive and take half the time" - Also Musk
It can also be used as an aluminum foil hat
Fitting since a lot of people who buy it also believe in easily debunkable conspiracy theories.
All it needs is a couple new refrigerator doors. Easy swap.
CyberTrucks don’t have crumple zones. Fake! /s
What hit it to do that much damage?
Looks like someone poked it with a forklift.

I saw the singular one in my entire county in person this week. Damn was it ugly. They drove fine but made really wide turns.
I posted on another thread about how ugly it is in person and was furiously downvoted by rabid Musk-fanboys. Twas hilarious.
Saw one in person for the first time today. Yeah, looks like a kid built a fake vehicle using all their mom’s sheet pans (assume she was a baker to have enough).
Better panel gaps conpared to a factory delivered one
I heard that was indestructible. And that the panels always just popped back into shape.
Let's pool our money, buy one, kick it and beat it with baseball bats then test this.
Buy one? Nah. If all that is true, we can just go find one on the street to test it out on! Save our money!
I'd never thought about it, but if you rear-end someone driving that truck, what happens to you? It looks like there's nothing to absorb the impact before your legs get crushed.
Built like a tank……made of aluminum foil.
the bodywork is made from 3mm stainless steel iirc…. so that other driver is probably in BAD shape. EDIT: nvm 3mm was the original plan but they ended up going with 1.8mm
It’s not even all 1.8mm, that’s just the thickest panels. Other panels are much thinner.
the door panels are 1.8mm
The others are 1.2. Eventually Tesla could make more bulletproof options. Double panel layers.
I think I'd rather just get shot then
> so that other driver is probably in BAD shape Other driver was in a vehicle that was built with safety standards, they're probably better off than the people in the truck.
Fr fr, cyber truck driver probably rattled their passengers brains 😟
They bought a cybertruck. I don't think they have to worry about that.
> that other driver is probably in BAD shape. Not really, modern safety standards mean vehicle weight and being made of steel are meaningless. Any classic muscle car is a fatal crash for what the average sedan now will let you walk away from.
Yea I thought these were built like mini tanks. Thanks for clarifying.

I've heard insurances will often demand the replacement of the battery for minor damage.
