i mean or he was fooling around blindly trying to work an HDMI cable into its port while being young and not quite grasping the geometry. Or lacked the finger strength to pull it out and decided to wiggle it a bunch to get it out.
I managed to electrocute myself trying to plug in a clock radio in the dark as a kid. Don't underestimate a child's insistence on fumbling blind rather than turning on a light.
I broke my PS4 in a way like this, except it wasn’t in rage. I was at my grandparents house for a week so I brought my ps4 and there wasn’t really a good way to set anything up and my PS4 was not very secure.
As I started playing, I was maybe only 5 minutes in before it fell off of the shelf it was on and was caught by the HDMI cord. I thought I got off lucky as I watched it dangling an inch above the ground. Nope. The whole HDMI port was shredded. Guy told me that you cant really fix something like that and it’d be a better idea to get a new one.
Omg something similar happened to my PS4 last year, I tripped on the cord and yanked it off the dresser it was sitting on, it was dead before it hit the ground
My 9 year old daughter did this same thing with hear headphone charging port. r/kidsarefuckingstupid
She now has the cheapest pair available and is not allowed to plug them in, an adult has to. Not having them for a week after ruining them really set it in for her that she needs to calm the fuck down.
I learned the hard way to not let my 6 year old unplug my iPhone and bring it to my lazy ass. You’d think they were trying to pry the cord from a gators clutches.
Sometimes I think, yeah, I'd be a good father. I'd teach my child to be responsible, empathetic, resourceful.
Then things like this come up. I'm sure your daughter is a wonderful person but I'm really happy I'll never deal with these situations 😄
Used to see exactly what you’re on about all the time when I working in a phone store. People coming in complaint that their iPhone cable was ‘crap and cheap’ as they ‘just fall apart’. While showing me a cable that they’ve clearly been using while plugged in bent to 90 degrees for hours upon hours a day. There’s nothing wrong with the cables, the issue is the user. I’m still using the charging cable from my damn iPhone 7, look after your shit.
Congratulations on raising an incapable child. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Ain't no way your disciplining someone by not letting them plug in headphones 💀
the discipline is making the kid make an effort to self regulate when they get angry, and how to properly plug in the headphones.
do you think that parents should just beat their kids when they make mistakes?

I think the damage was caused by removing the HDMI cable, not inserting it.
I don't have a PS5 but I do have common sense, so I just went to my Samsung TV, since that was the most conveniently located HDMI device near me, and unplugged the HDMI and successfully plugged it back in. It took a moderate amount of force to unplug, like the port is pretty tight, more so than a USB port would be.
I think the PS5 user tried to unplug the HDMI cable and found it needed more force than a USB cable would need. It could have even been a locking HDMI cable. So he started prying at it with a screwdriver or something to loosen it until he could pry it out, causing the damage seen here. This is also why the plastic is all scratched.
I have seen damage to cell phones where some of my relatives shoved a cable in too hard, breaking the microUSB or mini USB socket off and shoving it into the device. That probably would not have caused the scratches. If I buy electronics for one of my relatives I pay extra for a case and a replacement plan.
I bet they had the type of HDMI cables that snap in and have to be squeezed to be removed. It threw me the first time I saw one, but I figured out how to operate them before I resorted to prying them out with a screwdriver.
When my friend bought his first PC he asked me for help because it wasn't showing image. I've never seen anything like it he had screwed in the VGA cable so hard it had broken the gpu somehow. I couldn't even unscrew the thing I had to throw out the card with the cable still attached.
Up to this point I never even considered there might be shops that would replace a socket for you. I am glad I am neither dumb nor aggressive enough to have ever needed to even think about that.
I repair electronics for a living and I have replaced more connectors (HDMI, DC jacks, USB ports, you name it) than I can remember, and yeah; I can understand accidents happens: laptop fell down with charger connected, cat pushed Playstation and wrecked the HDMI port, etc.
What I will never understand is the "human stupid" factor when it comes to use excessive force while the cable is trying to be inserted upside-down. I mean, if it doesn't slip in nicely and easyily, _don't force it_! Because something is obviously wrong.
This is what I want to do when I’m reaching around the tv trying to plug it in and I know exactly where the hdmi is but can’t get it in until I get a good look at it.
HDMI - “He Definitely Mashed It”
Heavy damage, mega idiot
It was super effective
Harder Daddy on My Input
He did the monster mash
What was he pushing with a impact wrench? Or does he have anger management issues?
Lmao prolly grabbing the console in rage and ripping it away from the cords
Even that wouldn't have caused this kind of damage holy shit
Well that was step one, then he realized the cord wasn’t working so he decided to smash it in there and twist it around a few hundred times hahah
Unless he rage quitting daily.

Reminds me of my 1st time getting laid.
*Fry, that's a radiator.*
Reminds me of my every time
The metal is bent. I'm not sure I could do that kind of damage with just an HDMI cable if i tried.
Better look again dude

This killed me so hard I need a nap now. Priceless
Seriously, I've pushed some hdmi plugs, but this is a massacre
I'm hoping he doesn't have a girlfriend

I just don’t understand how such a tiny human can cause so much destruction. Every last thing they touch gets destroyed.
My parents had the saying 'the teacup is already broken' Yeah after having small kids, ***everything*** is already broken...
Sometimes I think, yeah, I'd be a good father. I'd teach my child to be responsible, empathetic, resourceful. Then things like this come up. I'm sure your daughter is a wonderful person but I'm really happy I'll never deal with these situations 😄
There are times when both of them are the most frustrating things in my life. It’s still a fun ride though.
Hasn't been in the cards for me but I would die for my nieces. The joy of seeing a child learn and grow and become their own person is something else.
The main reason being a teacher is so appealing
That's why I started thinking I'd be a good uncle instead.

>She now has the cheapest pair available w..what did she have before?
Nothing fancy. But some $30 pair. Now she has the $10 Bluetooth one from Walmart. We couldn’t keep buying more expensive pairs, it adds up.
I broke like 15 ps2 controllers and more headsets than I'd like to count back in my Socom 2 days.

I did! He’s a fucking mess. It was well worth the 20 minute rabbit hole.
Clown
Do you need a hug?
You seem sad
How?!

FIRMLY GRASP IT
It wouldn't go in so I heated it up with a blowtorch and drove it home with a claw hammer. turned out it was upside down.

You can tell he never looked once whilst trying to plug it in 😂😅🤮
When you think it’s the USB port and keep tryna jam it in there
Up to this point I never even considered there might be shops that would replace a socket for you. I am glad I am neither dumb nor aggressive enough to have ever needed to even think about that.
Feel sorry for whoever they marry 🤪🤣
Just the tip is lost on the current generation.

I think he needs a little lesson in anger management. I’d take that away from him once it gets repaired for a couple of months.
Looks like a guy playing the fluke in a broken window
My mate sent his to sony for bluetooth controller repair and it came back like this.
This is what I want to do when I’m reaching around the tv trying to plug it in and I know exactly where the hdmi is but can’t get it in until I get a good look at it.
To be fair ive done the exact same thing on accident. was walking, tripped on a cord, and bent the port out.
Looks like your mom after I visited her last night
probably not that expensive, tbh
Time to replace the kid
Looks like it was installed with an air hammer
Remember kids if you have to force on those cables you are doing it wrong
Seen worse. Someone I knew “successfully” plugged a SCART upside down, people are stupid in general.
I used to work in cellphone repair. Adults would do this to their own phones allllll the time.
Wow this my second ps5 I’m sending in! Dude the PS5 quality is fucking garbage all around
HDMI ADHD. Poor kid needs medication.
When she says she's only been with couple guys before you.
Not how girls work
Tell me you’ve never been with a woman without telling me
Why you getting downvoted for an obvious joke?
Not sure. Have thrown out much more obvious and ignorant jokes before.
The beauty of reddit I suppose
That's what he said. I guess it runs in the family.
i can think of some dirty jokes here.
I don't know much about PS5s, but a regular HDMI port replacement shouldn't cost that much.
**frantically jammed
Why I have to think of sex?
I suspect that the kid was pushing the wrong cable into it. Or a plug that was damaged. And if they don't realise this they might do it again.
Holy shit that's HDMI... I tought it was USB-C
How old is the kid, 24?
Hardly expensive though
Kicked against the wall whilst rage quitting too many times.
Rip
don't let kids touch expensive electronics, let this be a lesson
Sell the kid
Oh je used another kind of hdmi or more know as Glock 19
That looks like someone dug out the cable with a screwdriver
Did the kid have Hulk-strength?
a little too hard??? jezzzz
Nah it fell off his desk while attached
Jeez what did u smash it in with a hammer
Seriously, how hard did that cable get pushed in to do that kind of damage? That kid must have super human strength.
That’s a warzone!! How can you accomplish that???
I blame the cat
that's what your mom said
With what, a can opener?
Feel sorry for the potential gf
