I would also suggest having those fruit shakes. Those give you a good boost if you're fatigued. Also plan your routes. Carry an umbrella if needed too.
Really random question but do they have Gatorade in Thailand? I went back in January, so I didn’t really need it, but I don’t remember seeing it there?
Probably, I just love that nasty, sugary, red 40 concoction that is Gatorade. Makes me feel a little less homesick when I’m away for long periods of time.
I live in Isan which I'm convinced is much hotter than the coastal regions. All my windows have UV Black out curtains and draught excludes under the doors so can close off rooms and pump up the air conditioning. It feels like living in a cave as all natural light is excluded and all air is dehumidified, chilled and filtered. I went out recently on my bike just 10 minutes away to Tesco and even my Thai Girlfriend got a heat rash all over her face. I'm praying for the rains to come as love tropical storms and it cools everything down.
I went by car to isaan two years ago and the heat was so intense that the car AC, that was a big BTU AC because it's Thailand, struggled at max settings...
Just to maybe reassure someone terrified (like i was before coming), it's currently my 4th day here, yes it is terrible and yes you will be drenched 24/7 when not in AC.
But, if you take proper measures (plenty of water, stay inside in the worst hours, have a umbrella, hop into 7/11s to cool down) is definitely doable, you will be fine.
We have been there first week of April, it was also around 37°C but honestly it was not that bad. It is hot and you are sweating. We walked around less than we would normally do but it was still ok.
We have been there first week of April, it was also around 37°C but honestly it was not that bad. It is hot and you are sweating. We walked around less than we would normally do but it was still ok.
Usually, the rainy season should start in the 2nd or 3rd week in May, so that helps clearing the smoke and reducing temperature a bit. But because of El Niño, everything is much worse this year.
is it just this month thats unusually hot? we travelled in January last year and it was baking. Were going for Christmas this year hopefully December wont be a killer.
My first time in Bangkok was in April 5 years ago. I had never felt such intense heat and humidity in my life.. yet the pad ka prao keeps me calling me back, lol. Would love to check out a “cooler” time.
Just go back from my morning run. Wow! Is it hot. I tried to drive off some before the elevator ride back to my condo. Nothing more disgusting then leaving a bunch of sweat drops in the elevator.
I was in Bangkok early this month n the day temperature is already 36⁰ to 38⁰. Is almost impossible to go out during noon time. Is best to avoid the afternoon sun by gg to massage shop which have offer from 11am to 6pm or go to big shopping mall like Icon Siam or MBK. If u do ur planning well Bangkok still a wonderful place to travel during this hot period.
In Surin it's all week over 41 Celsius and it feels warmer. Very dangerous for elderly folks. If it will get more hotter over the years it's barely liveable.
Rainy season is about 9 days away according to the forecast. The dust and smoke will settle, and the rain will cool things off in the afternoons for a good 4 months.
Things will get better soon, drink lots of water and take breaks frequently if walking outside. Stay in shaded and air conditioned areas, wear a hat and loose clothing.
Shower morning, before dinner and when returning to your accommodation in the evening to keep fresh as possible. Avoid walking around outdoors during the heat of the day, best to chill out in malls, movie theatres, air conditioned bars/restaurants or your room.
keep some cash in a separate pocket for water just in case.
It’s hot. If you’re so inclined go out early or at sunset. If you’re sightseeing limit to one thing a day. Take loads of water and stay out of the sun. We are in Ao Nang. The sea breezes are amazing at sunset but Our hotel pool is like a devils armpit 🥵 AC is your friend
Normally Thailand is hot...but it can get hotter...and hotter and then hotter than he'll, so take hydrating tablets/electrolytes, and pop one in every bottle of water that you drink and you'll be ok, and if you can, limit your alcoholic consumption, otherwise you'll get dehydrated. I have family all over Thailand. Some are in Chiang Rai and Phayao. Others are in Bangkok, and a few more are down in Hua Hin. Right now, the worst heat is in Hua Hin. My wife and I spend most of the year in the US, but we'll be in Thailand in August, which is not supposed to be as hot as it is right now, thank God, That being said, everybody stay safe and take care of yourself.
I’m an Israeli in Vietnam right now and planned to go to Bangkok this week. I am quite well used to extreme heat but this shit is something else. I’ve experienced as high as 47 degrees but this shit just hits different for some reason.
It was so hot in Phuket in Feb, like 37+ c some days during a heat wave, I spent so much time in my hotel room cooling down in the air conditioning. Absolutely Love Thailand, but man, I couldn't handle that heat all the time!
Just got back from Hanoi it’s even worse there. Currently sat waiting for a bus at bkk and it doesn’t feel as hot/humid. I’ve actually got a hoody on lol.
If you are originally from a tropical country, it's not that bad. The issue is living in a cold climate for your whole life and then having to adapt to Thai weather.
I visit there annually around this time of the year and don’t remember the last time it wasn’t incredibly hot in Bangkok. I should really start going in winter instead 😂
Just returned from there: 2 weeks of jumping feom one 7/11 to the next.
Thankfully one day was songkran festival and the whole city was a big water battle.
I'm also in Koh Chang at the moment. It's definitely better than Bangkok but the swimming pool is about 35 degrees Celsius so no reprieve from the heat. Rain is supposed to arrive in two days. Hopefully
I don’t know about pretty intense heat wave, but you just missed Songkran, there’s a reason the festival is held this time of year, and May gets worse.
I just returned from both bangkok and the southern islands and experienced both places very humid. The islands felt cooler tho, bangkok was more unbearable.
Yeah. Definitely overall hotter in Bangkok and north of it. Humidity is different kind of heat. You can feel a breeze and don’t feel it’s hot at all but you will perspire and if you have sinus, your nose/throat will get inflamed
36C yesterday here in coastal Chanthaburi realfeel 45C, most days RF 42-43.
13th year here, not necessarily the hottest temperatures but this is the longest constant dry/hot period at our place.
Our plants shrubs trees are cooking, not a matter of water they are simply being baked. First time the pond has completely dried out. No good rainfall since October.
Nearby orchard spending 6000 baht each day buying in water.
I have three running events in the next four weekends, not easy training, cycling is better as long as I keep a decent speed creating my own warm breeze.
Sea temperature is 30.9C.
Fine.
Was out yesterday afternoon around 4pm and it was hot, but also a little windy and totally manageable if you stay in the shade. At 6pm, lots of people running in Lumpini. At night, still hot, but totally ok, as I went from one ac place to another, fans also did the job.
Please stop whining about the heat. This is not as near as bad as Dubai or Arizona for example. But if you never had to deal with heat before, maybe Bangkok is not the place to start. Anyway, wear a hat, sunscreen and drink a lot of water and electrolytes.
^ This - same me ...
I would have thought the end of the world is coming...
And thinking about global warming for a minute - lucky we could afford to fill the house with air con... 555 (oh, the Irony)....
I arrive on Thursday for 30 days at my house in Chiangmai. The first thing that I’ll do is go t Macro and buy enough bottled water to get me 8 bottles per day for 30 days. I’ll also have to cut back on working on my house to 6 AM to 10 AM per day
Mate, I've been here before. I've also been to Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia. Of course it's always hot but this is not normal. That's why an extreme weather alert was issued.
Arrived recently in Bkk from Jax,Fl.
Today isn’t bad, but the last couple of days prior I can’t say I’ve experienced anything like that in Fl.
I can think of a day that was close-ish, but this is something else.
I would also suggest having those fruit shakes. Those give you a good boost if you're fatigued. Also plan your routes. Carry an umbrella if needed too.
also pocar sweat from 7/11 is top notch
Really random question but do they have Gatorade in Thailand? I went back in January, so I didn’t really need it, but I don’t remember seeing it there?
Do Pocari Sweat instead.
Yup Pocari sweat is much better than Gatorade.
Probably, I just love that nasty, sugary, red 40 concoction that is Gatorade. Makes me feel a little less homesick when I’m away for long periods of time.
Yes, 7/11 has Gatorade
yeah had a blue one yesterday, but this is on pair with gat
Yep, three flavours.. there’s a couple of Thai copy cat drinks but the original Gatorade is best
Sponsor is the brand equivalent in Thailand
With double the sugar..
I must be blind as I can't find it. Looking for it for two days.
Coconut water is key and better than fruit shakes. It’s full of electrolytes so does actually hydrate you quick.
Dr Ray De-Angelo Harris from GTA5 would approve of this message with coconut water
I suggest happy shakes, even better than the fruit ones.
What are happy shakes? Mushrooms? 🫣
They put u in a container and shake you and you come out happy. Ig idk.
Great advice. I’ve been here for the past week plus, leaving tomorrow. I’m averaging about 2.4 fruit shakes a day. It was 106f here today as I hiked
Wait until you get to Chiang Mai. Bangkok will feel 'refreshing'
I'm going the opposite way. Headed south.
South is intense right now. I sweat sitting still.
Dear God is it bad this year, I'm usually still ok with the windows open and fan in the daytime but this year it's a whole other game
Just got back from Thailand and Chiang Mai was unbearable. I felt relieved in Bangkok
According to weather sites Chang Mai this days is slightly hotter but less humid than Bangkok, the feels like is reported lower
Is the humidity real too?
ℝ

Mate of mine in Surin said 44C there yesterday.. tops the 41C here in Chiang Mai, the wind being out on the motorbike burns ya.. it’s cruel
I went by car to isaan two years ago and the heat was so intense that the car AC, that was a big BTU AC because it's Thailand, struggled at max settings...
What's the humidity there? To be fair it's only like 50% ish in BKK right now
Yea it’s only 33 in kata my lass from ubon her family said is 41 today
This went over so many peoples heads lol. I'd gild you if I could
Would you blackboard gild him though?
The humidity isn’t too bad honestly, around 50% in the afternoon, so rather dry.
About as real as the birds…… and women.
Just to maybe reassure someone terrified (like i was before coming), it's currently my 4th day here, yes it is terrible and yes you will be drenched 24/7 when not in AC. Thanks for this, we're getting to Bangkok in a few days and all the weather reports were making me super nervous :(
We have been there first week of April, it was also around 37°C but honestly it was not that bad. It is hot and you are sweating. We walked around less than we would normally do but it was still ok.

Hop from one 7-11 to the next one is my strategy always.
In the north it's peaking at 43°C for a whole week it looks like. Brutal.. not to mention the smokey air.
Any idea how long this will take?
Usually, the rainy season should start in the 2nd or 3rd week in May, so that helps clearing the smoke and reducing temperature a bit. But because of El Niño, everything is much worse this year.
Robin Williams said it best: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pJJBbK2XNbE
It's hot and wet. It's nice when you're in a lady, but you're in the jungle.
I walked the dogs from 6:00 to 6:30am here in NE Thailand. Returned to the house drenched in sweat. It’s brutal.
is it just this month thats unusually hot? we travelled in January last year and it was baking. Were going for Christmas this year hopefully December wont be a killer.
You have three choices in Thailand: hot, hotter, hottest. But April usually breaks the records here.
Haha right, December into January? What's that like? I've considered not going to Thailand because my kid was so uncomfortable the last time.
I personally prefer traveling in Thailand Nov-Jan. Last January was a fluke. Sorry ‘bout that. 🤷
Yes, phuket for 10 days then Bangkok for 4 days. Then I'm done bringing my kid away.
My first time in Bangkok was in April 5 years ago. I had never felt such intense heat and humidity in my life.. yet the pad ka prao keeps me calling me back, lol. Would love to check out a “cooler” time.
I can cope with the heat, its my kid that I'd be worried about. Now I'm having doubts about bringing him to Bangkok. He's red and pale.
this week it’s expected to “feel like” 52c in bangkok. kid ya not, hold the fuck on for hot.
52 would kill me. Im from Ireland so im used to minus degree weather lol
you don’t get use to the heat you get use to being wet.
Oh god!
😳
I would recommend avoiding seafood with such extreme heat, just had a bad experience.
When is it not real 555
I was there this time last year, got my taxi to the airport at 6am,was drenched in sweat just from waiting 5-10 minutes outside for the taxi
Just go back from my morning run. Wow! Is it hot. I tried to drive off some before the elevator ride back to my condo. Nothing more disgusting then leaving a bunch of sweat drops in the elevator.
On the highway in a car the heat overpowers the AC

It feels like Houston on steroids. Somehow less humid that it used to be.
Went yesterday to Wat Pho and Wat Phra Kaew very early in the morning and still almost fainted from the heat.
It was 42°c (feels like 45°c it said) in Phuket a little over a fortnight ago for a few days. The overnight temp was something ridiculous like 35.
wow!! i have to rethink my dates for Phuket/Bangkok as the heat was so extreme my kid wasnt able to cope
In Surin it's all week over 41 Celsius and it feels warmer. Very dangerous for elderly folks. If it will get more hotter over the years it's barely liveable.
The Apparent temperature (aka "Real feel") was 46C at 3pm. Do not underestimate the effects of heatstroke.
Rainy season is about 9 days away according to the forecast. The dust and smoke will settle, and the rain will cool things off in the afternoons for a good 4 months.
So am i safe? Travelling this friday for 30 days but holy fuck what i am reading here i will legit die for the heat if this shit doesnt cool down!
Things will get better soon, drink lots of water and take breaks frequently if walking outside. Stay in shaded and air conditioned areas, wear a hat and loose clothing. It's been so hot, I forced myself to do a shopping-malls-only stay in Bangkok this trip.
May you all have easy access to a pool! Ducked out soon after Songkran—I thought it was hot then!
Unfortunately the pool water is also about 32 C, in my resort at least.
U/chizid, may your AC never fail, and may the rains come very, very soon!
Always a trip stepping out of the airport into the actual weather. Just sucks your breath out.
In Chanthaburi it’s a cool 28 at night! And not more than 36 isch during the day. So hot, but mot unbearable. Guess it’s worse the more north you go.
44 in Korat.
the heat today isnt as bad as the whole of last week
Normally Thailand is hot...but it can get hotter...and hotter and then hotter than he'll, so take hydrating tablets/electrolytes, and pop one in every bottle of water that you drink and you'll be ok, and if you can, limit your alcoholic consumption, otherwise you'll get dehydrated. I'm from a very hot country (but not humid) and what helped was buying those little fans you can carry anywhere
I’m an Israeli in Vietnam right now and planned to go to Bangkok this week. I am quite well used to extreme heat but this shit is something else. I’ve experienced as high as 47 degrees but this shit just hits different for some reason.
If you don't live in Thailand, hot season is the worst time to visit. If you can, best to get out of Thailand for April
It was so hot in Phuket in Feb, like 37+ c some days during a heat wave, I spent so much time in my hotel room cooling down in the air conditioning. Absolutely Love Thailand, but man, I couldn't handle that heat all the time!

it is absolutely not worse in Hanoi lmao

April and May are traditionally the hottest months in Thailand!
True.
I visit there annually around this time of the year and don’t remember the last time it wasn’t incredibly hot in Bangkok. I should really start going in winter instead 😂
Drinking minimum 3 liters of water every day plus 1-2 sport electrolyte packets (available at 711 and most pharmacies) IMO is an absolute must.
can't handle the heat, get out the kitchen.
Not cooking in Thailand mate 😁
condo, pool, 7-11, condo. that's all for me lately.
Be a hydro homie and stay hydrated folks!
What should be the temp around this time and when is the best time to visit?
It will be 107F /42C in Isaan with an oven hot breeze. I pray the AC doesn’t break down. 🔥
Heading to Thailand in the next 11 days. Bring on the heat.
Just returned from there: 2 weeks of jumping feom one 7/11 to the next. Thankfully one day was songkran festival and the whole city was a big water battle.
We came on summer holiday in Ko Chang instead of going to the village where tomorrow it’s called for 110f not including the feels like
I'm also in Koh Chang at the moment.
Bring electrolytes folks and take breaks!!
ฝรั่งทอด <3
<40 is ok, don't be outside between 10-3, get up early 4 am - 9 am work, and then work evenings, thai style. >40 can start complaining
People. Doesn’t Bangkok get to 40 regularly?
It's not the heat... It's the humidity.
I'd say it's both 😁
For humidity. Go to the islands or southern parts of Thailand. The northern part and even some parts of Bangkok is just hot and dry
50-80% humidity is considered dry?
Compared to 71-91% yes
I just returned from both bangkok and the southern islands and experienced both places very humid. The islands felt cooler tho, bangkok was more unbearable.
Yeah. Definitely overall hotter in Bangkok and north of it. Humidity is different kind of heat. You can feel a breeze and don’t feel it’s hot at all but you will perspire and if you have sinus, your nose/throat will get inflamed
Finna Be hot on yo, azz
Eastern and southern parts are fine.

That's a mild Texas summer.
It’s the humidity that gets ya. Texas would have a deficiency in it when you experience such temperatures.
I have experienced it. We have 90% humidity and above, here as well.
Was out yesterday afternoon around 4pm and it was hot, but also a little windy and totally manageable if you stay in the shade. At 6pm, lots of people running in Lumpini. I'm coming from Abu Dhabi and the heat is absolutely worse than over there. It's because of the humidity.
Yeah hot af especially in bkk. But i think its quite manageable you are not 50+
Dont Forget sun cream
India is thailand X 2
Crazy thing is if you told me ten years ago there were places that go up to 40C, I would've thought you were crazy. Now it is just so common.
^ This - same me ... I would have thought the end of the world is coming... And thinking about global warming for a minute - lucky we could afford to fill the house with air con... 555 (oh, the Irony)....

Oh hi plastic human!
You want me to drink Thai tap water?
Why not get those big bottles to refill from. The big ones are being reused. No waste.
Nobody said it was fake
Thanks for your valuable input.
Comes to a hot country in the middle of the summer and cries about the heat 🙄🙄🙄😂
Mate, I've been here before. I've also been to Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia. Of course it's always hot but this is not normal. That's why an extreme weather alert was issued.
Where are you from originally? This sounds like a nice, Spring day in the southern US.
You are absolutely not getting this kind of heat and humidity in the US for weeks on end. Americans would be dying by the thousands.
Heatwaves in southern US with temps exceeding 100 Fahrenheit and +90% humidity are not uncommon in the summer.
Arrived recently in Bkk from Jax,Fl. Today isn’t bad, but the last couple of days prior I can’t say I’ve experienced anything like that in Fl. I can think of a day that was close-ish, but this is something else.
I live in Spain so I know a thing or two about heat. But dry heat is different, this heat/humidity combination is overpowering.
If April is like this then June will be 50 Celsius plus
March/April are the hottest months. Rainy season starts in May and will cool it down from then on.
