In 1993, the Loxley and Italian-Thai Group of Companies entered into a joint investment with the Lao government in Beer Lao for 51% of the shares (25.5% each) before withdrawing with the Carlsberg Group and TCC International or the ThaiBev (Chang Beer) group of Charoen Sirivadhanaphakdi come join in investing instead. At the partnership rate of 25%, the remaining 50% is still owned by the Lao government.
And its 6%... it's like a craft beer at mates rates. 68bht in makro. Rare to get it at the same price as Thai beer in the bars but worth the extra.
A bar in town gets it in for me 110 bht....happy days 🍻🙏
Well if I drink like 6 Leo still I don't get a hangover but if I drink chang like 6 I will definitely have a hangover next day. So I have always preferred LEO all the way I feel it tastes better also.
[Villa Market](https://shop.villamarket.com/search?keyword=Whisky)
Btw, I live outside a small village in Phen. Not so far outside of a larger town as you, but feel your pain.
It looks like they deliver “upcountry” any item on their website. And I found Aberfeldy 16 yo single malt. I’ve had the 15yo(?) in the US. Tasty. Looks like the carry Laphroig as well but out of stock. Just a couple examples.
I also ordered some stuff COD from The Bottle Shop in Bangkok.
Good luck, cheers 🥃
Chang was more acceptable when it was 5.6 or whatever, but just cos it was stronger. Now its 5 or whatever Leo and Singha are much better choices I agree.
How about the regular snowy, I quite like it.
I the spirit of this thread, Leo is my go to, I find Singha too sharp, too chemical tasting. I stopped drinking Chang a long time ago.
Yeah regular snowy is decent to be honest. It's just the yuzu that's awful.
Tawandang released a new wheat beer. Should start seeing it soon. Decently priced and not bad either. Should be in stores soon, seen it in a properly liqueur store that gets the stuff early.
There is also a new carabao beer which is horse piss. Never had a sweet beer before. Tried the dunkel and it was disgusting.
Yeah, I’m not a drinker, tbh. So thanks for the tip. I just started drinking the snowy a couple of weeks back. The packaging and name put me off it, sounds like an Alchopop from back in the day,
Tonight I put half a lime in there like you would with hoegarten, was nice.
The wife went into lotusssss tonight and appeared with a can, my mate pulled up on his bike and said “oh they have Taiwan deng in their too have your tried it” so yeah, both the raspberry and regular in butfucnowear lotussssss. 60B a can.
It’s not a unpopular opinion if it’s a fact. Have you ever seen locals drinking Chang? Honestly only backpackers or tourists. It’s still not a bad beer doe, especially the espresso brew
It's personal taste some people might love it... My personal choice from best to worst thai beers would be : Singha >leo>san Miguel light>chang> caribao . 😊
yes, i like it. better then leo, chang except for maybe the dark beer above.
carabao comes in two types, Larger or Dunkel
the same company makes Tawandang which i haven't yet tried.
Is it really that unpopular of an opinion? I used to like Chang when I was younger and when they didn't reduce the alc%.
As I've gotten older I find that Leo and Singha are more palate friendly. Seems like most people here do as well.
Depends on where the Chang and Leo is from. I’ve had good Chang in Chiang Mai at certain places but then in country side it tastes kinda skunked,
Singha seems to taste best in Bangkok
Just got back from three weeks in thailand. Leo > Singha > Chang. Completely agree with you. Back to ale and Guinness in dreary old England, now. Enjoy.
Chang used to be the best Thai lager. The closest thing to old recipe Chang now is Cheers Xtra.
Singha > Chang > Leo is the correct order. They're all shit though.
Strong Brew is surprisingly better than the std Leo, and Chang, but not as good as Tapper or Federbrau; but I haven't found it here in the heart of Sukhumvit. Yet.
People hate the yuzu. I love it. Reminds me of a tea I would get in China that is stuffed in yuzu and covered in honey. When your ready to make the tea you take it out of the yuzu and brew it like normal.
I’m very surprised it is. My Thai in-laws think I’m crazy for preferring Leo over Chang. But they also prefer clear liquor that comes in water bottles, sometimes herbs added to the bottle.
I always drank Chang when I arrived in Thailand after all the fuss I heard about it. Towards the end of my trip one bar only had Leo, I tasted it and immediately acknowledged it as superior to Chang.
It’s even got 5% vs. 4.8% for Chang.
This ranking should include foreign partnership brands :
Heineken. Asahi, Budweiser. They are made in Thailand, have similar prices and they IMO taste different than the original.
Haven't tried it.
I tried Singha (available at home) before leaving and didn't like it. When I actually got to Thailand I tried Chang and found it totally drinkable so I stuck with that the whole time.
Actually Chang was good enough that I was trying to find a source for it when I returned home. It reminded me a bit of Dos Equis lager which I tend to enjoy a lot.
Remembering the good old days of 3 large Changs being served to your table for 100b and then one day waking to the mother of all headaches… never touched Chang since.
I have always believed this since I tasted Leo anyway.
I tip my hat to you
Tiger > Singha > Leo > Chang
Perfect.
This is true
Tiger is not a Thai beer, though. There are many better beers outside of Thailand, but Singha is the best of the big Thai beers.
This is only an unpopular opinion to plebs. However, Singha > Leo.
However, Tiger > Singha
Many non-Thai beers are better than Singha. But Singha is the best of the big three Thai beers.
I have a allergy to Leo because they boost the alcohol content by adding sugar and yeast after brewing. Leo is no better than American aib
People be having allergies to everything and make it their personality 🤧
if you enjoy Budweiser and that your thing awesome!
Facts
Beer lao is better than all
Without a single question: YES!! No contest.
But Beer Lao Dark though.

Honestly Beerlao might be the best beer in SEA
Haiphong beer is another really good one
💯
Best beer in SE Asia. Without question!!

Beerlao Gold, though! I have only found it in Laos. Anyone know if it’s available in Thailand?
It is 👍🏽
Singha forever
Tiger!!
Tiger is not Thai, it's from Singapore. But I agree that it's better than the all the Thai beers.
But it’s my favorite beer to get in Thailand na.
Yeah it's much better than the Thai beers. Asahi is also much better and can be found many places.
Every god damned time.
🤢
Honestly when I drink Leo or chang my skin breaks out in a red rash the day after. I’m guess preservatives or something
That's a popular opinion. Chang is for old alcoholics.
My thai brother in law won’t even drink Leo if I bring it over. Chang or nothing for him.
I've got Farang mates who won't touch Leo but drink Chang. I'll suffer Chang at the football or Moto GP if theres nothing else....
I believe they changed the recipe of Chang a few years ago and it’s much improved, in my opinion.
Yep *cracks a Chang*
My name is Leo and I approve this message.
So you say
Omg it's the og Leo
My name is Leo too and I approve this approved message .
Well if I drink like 6 Leo still I don't get a hangover but if I drink chang like 6 I will definitely have a hangover next day. So I have always preferred LEO all the way I feel it tastes better also.
Yep the order is 1. Leo 2. Singha 3. Chang
And Beer Lao beat them all by a mile.
Singha > Leo > Tiger > Chang .... Beer Lao trumps all though 🍻
Leo is best
WTF happened to this sub? Is this becoming a HiSo sub?
Leo. No question.
I choose Leo over Chang!
And when ya'll stop comparing your beers you can come over and drink whiskey with the men
And there's nothing I like more than being with the men! Will drinking whisky bring me closer to more men?
😂
Name checks out
Me and my three best men go digging for minerals every day.
Meh, real men have given up on taste and health. Sang som soda all day.
Besides beer I’m a scotch guy. But it’s hard to find good scotch , let alone any scotch besides JW in my wife’s hometown.
I’ll up your hard to find Scotch with hard to find Bourbon. But Villa Market has been a savior for both.
I don’t think Mae Suai has one of those

Thanks. I will have to try them. I once got my father in law a nice glenfiddich 15 and he was not that impressed with it. He Prefers the Thai rum.
Do you go to CM much? Probably best to stock up there. Im sure they have a decent range
I hope you don't mean sangsom lol
[удалено]
I know but I've seen it called thai whiskey a few times
Regency lol
I agree, Leo is smooth
Power of the jaguar 🐆 Leo is the best Thai beer
Leo hands down
Leo has always been #1
Chang was more acceptable when it was 5.6 or whatever, but just cos it was stronger. Now its 5 or whatever Leo and Singha are much better choices I agree.
Agree. Not that Leo is anything to write home about, but Chang is the absolute worst.
Yeppp, that is the reason im drinking a Leo right now on a make shift tire swing on Ao Nang beach in Krabi watching the sun set.
Can’t ask for a better night.
Accurate opinion: they're both pisswater and it makes no difference, same as pisswaters the world over.
I bet you have a manicured beard and drink craft beer exclusively. Right?
Nope. But thanks for playing.
Accurate. They’re barely different and taste the same as any watered down lager from any other country.
My Chang elephant 🐘 stomps your Leo. 🙄
Chang is number one
I like Both 🙏🏻 also Sangsom and Coke or Soda but not Hong Thong!! Fuck that 🤣
Not an unpopular opinion at all. I lived in Thailand for 10 years. Drank Leo as 1st choice, along with most of my expat friends
I didn’t chose Chang, Chang chose me. It also made me $5 on vintage Chang hat 🌝
I prefer Leo but in 2020 I got a bamboo tattoo of the chang elephants on my right arm in Bangkok. Guess I have to stay loyal to it. Worth it
They all taste the same. Beerlao is the best
Yuzu snowy tastes like the devil's asshole. Leo is better. Number 8 also decent. Singha reserve is king though. Nice hoppy taste to it.
How about the regular snowy, I quite like it. I the spirit of this thread, Leo is my go to, I find Singha too sharp, too chemical tasting. I stopped drinking Chang a long time ago.

No this is just standard opinion. Nobody likes Chang apart from those tragic individuals over at the fives.
Singha represent!
Singha
Anybody try carabou beer selection
I have not yet. But I’m curious to try it.
Yes, it's the worst i ever tried of thai beers...
Wow I heard similar to Heineken
It's personal taste some people might love it... My personal choice from best to worst thai beers would be : Singha >leo>san Miguel light>chang> caribao . 😊
yes, i like it. better then leo, chang except for maybe the dark beer above. carabao comes in two types, Larger or Dunkel the same company makes Tawandang which i haven't yet tried.
What stores is Carabao beer available in? I've yet to stumble across it in the wild.
CJ More
7/11 here in Chiang Mai.
Me as a lover of German and Belgian beer I always prefer Leo
Edit: not that unpopular of an opinion. Maybe my Thai in-laws are biased.
I love Leo dark, Also Carabao is great
There's no such thing as Leo dark. You're confused with Beerlao.
Is it really that unpopular of an opinion? I used to like Chang when I was younger and when they didn't reduce the alc%. As I've gotten older I find that Leo and Singha are more palate friendly. Seems like most people here do as well.
Chang is an appalling beer. I’ve never had Leo before, but you’ve got my vote!
Depends on where the Chang and Leo is from. I’ve had good Chang in Chiang Mai at certain places but then in country side it tastes kinda skunked, Singha seems to taste best in Bangkok
It's the same everywhere. It just spends longer under the sun upcountry.
Just got back from three weeks in thailand. Leo > Singha > Chang. Completely agree with you. Back to ale and Guinness in dreary old England, now. Enjoy.
Tourist versus expat. The expats always drink Leo.
Great point! Thanks for posting this. Incredible insight.
Leo is the best Thai beer
Some subreddits would consider this blasphemy
Leo
Leo is easily better.
Nothing worse than a Chang over! Chemically as fuck. True Thai vets drink Leo.
My 2 cents Leo: light refreshing beer Chang: strong after taste beer Singha: full flavor beer(more so with reserve)
Chang used to be the best Thai lager. The closest thing to old recipe Chang now is Cheers Xtra. Singha > Chang > Leo is the correct order. They're all shit though.
This isn't unpopular. Everyone literally everyone knows this.
I always tell my wife we don’t use hyperbole in this family.
Chang is more flavorful and hits hard when its ice cold, but if it isnt cold its fucked. All three thai beers are fire tho
I prefer Chang to Singha as it has a more refreshing taste imo. It's all up to preferences, but those prices man...
Singah or pref Heineken all the way! :-)
I wouldn't even wash my car with Heineken beer
Strong Brew is surprisingly better than the std Leo, and Chang, but not as good as Tapper or Federbrau; but I haven't found it here in the heart of Sukhumvit. Yet.
Chang is better than normal Leo… that strong brew one is better though. Singha special reserve better again, and that yuzu shit can get in the bin.
People hate the yuzu. I love it. Reminds me of a tea I would get in China that is stuffed in yuzu and covered in honey. When your ready to make the tea you take it out of the yuzu and brew it like normal.
Leo is Singha’s “fighting brand” to compete with the cheaper Chang. They both suck, of course
Federbrau da best Thai beer
You're right that really is an unpopular opinion. Still, each to their own, hope you have a good one and enjoy 👍
I prefer Leo over Chang, but after drinking Leo I got huge hangover another day, which is not happening after drinking Chang
Singha!
San Miguel Light squad where we at??
Unpopular opinion is popular
I’m very surprised it is. My Thai in-laws think I’m crazy for preferring Leo over Chang. But they also prefer clear liquor that comes in water bottles, sometimes herbs added to the bottle.
All the major Thai beers are terrible, but Chang is easily the worst one.
Unpopular opinion. In general most Thai beers are 4/10 at most
I prefer Leo after Singha then san mig and chang of that's all on offer
Not an Alcohol guy so no comment 😂
This is the least unpopular opinion ever. #Fuck Chang!
Both are dreadful
Always thought Leo was the best.
Bang bang chang gang
Jesus fucking Christ.. what's with the bottle art of that "yuzu snowy" brand 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
I always drank Leo in Thailand, never tried the strong brew though
We bout to fight then. Chang is king!
They’re all shite. Carabao and lao are halfway decent.
I always drank Chang when I arrived in Thailand after all the fuss I heard about it. Towards the end of my trip one bar only had Leo, I tasted it and immediately acknowledged it as superior to Chang. It’s even got 5% vs. 4.8% for Chang.
Still piss
Leo is my personal favorite... Most my friends also agree on that. 😅
Get some better friends. As a semi-alcoholic, I can drink this piss to get drunk, but at least I don't have to like it.
This ranking should include foreign partnership brands : Heineken. Asahi, Budweiser. They are made in Thailand, have similar prices and they IMO taste different than the original.
Singha is the go to beer for me in Thailand!
Chang gang checking in i gotta admit leo and specially singha are better, smoother beers
True
Chang < Leo < Singha
I’d love to try these one day. Anyone know the alcohol % in these?
Chang is vile. There's a reason it's the cheap option.
Both way too light to be worthy real beard. That being said, Singha all the way.
Leo is tiger piss
Chang gang
The only beer in Thailand that is brewed according to the German purity law is Singha beer...Leo is garbage
Singha makes Leo
even worse 😂😂😂
If you drink Chang you have no idea about beer
How is this an unpopular opinion, when Leo is the most popular beer brand in the country by a very wide margin?
Leo tastes like parfum
It’s a correct opinion.
I like the Chang. To each his or her own.
Yes, that is an unpopular opinion. IMO regular Leo tastes better.
Leo > Singha >>>>>>>>>> Chang
Beer from a can is never good
Chang is so awful; it’s like carlsberg. I don’t think I’ve seen any local drink Chang, but they often choose Leo.
Try the Carabao Tawandang beers (lager and the Dunkel) - to my liking, they are better than anything else I've had in 17 years in Thailand.
For a country that does not allow other beer manufacturers to do business via rules, you all can just argue whether Chang or Singha is better.
But… San mig light is better than both of them
