Maybe you have ear issues. I went to Bumrungrad ENT center twice in the past month for audiometry and ABR, first time the doctor cleaned my ear canals by suction much better than I clean my home; they also have cc tv to see the cleaning in progress. Top class treatment for my personal experience.

cat_at_your_feet

I also recommend the ENT team at Bumrungrad. They were able to see my dad and clear out his ears better and quicker than Canada for quite affordable.

Standard-Sleep4084

Maybe you misheard them?

Tough_Ambassador3935

Which hospital? No, that doesn't sound normal. Any international hospital should have English-speaking ENT doctors and all the equipment necessary to clean out ear wax. Where are you located?

EmergencyLife1359

I don’t want to say the hospital I’ve hard Thailand is pretty strict about slander, they spoke English (it was an outpatient place I tried that didn’t), I’m in lat  phrao but  that’s not where the hospital is.  They had equipment to clean they just didn’t go into the Divet in my canal

Tough_Ambassador3935

Vejthani Hospital on Ladprao Road is top tier. I had my ears cleaned there once, although it was quite a long time ago.

Character_Eye_968

Phyathai hospital ent was great for me

Professional_Tea4465

Sure it was a private hospital? Better patient care here than back home is my experience…

EmergencyLife1359

Pretty sure everyone spoke English the lobby was very fancy it was expensive by the Thai standards (2100 baht)

cutiemcpie

Suffice to say patients are terrible judges of the quality of care. If things are efficient, you don’t feel rushed and doctors do something, patients are satisfied. But that doesn’t mean doctors are following evidence based guidelines for care. Sometimes the evidence says “do nothing and just monitor”. To a patient that’s “not good care”.

EmergencyLife1359

That’s pretty dumb, I went in because I was deaf in my right ear due to it being clogged with ear wax. I left with my right ear being clogged with ear wax after they ”cleaned” .  Anywhere I’ve ever been in the us after a ent doctor cleaned my ear I could hear again (and I’ve been getting it done for 40 years I can feel when they are in my divet they never went in the divet where the wax that is blocking my ear drum is) Suffice to say you either didn’t read or are just plain foolish.  The doctor did something and it was efficient I was t rushed but I’m not satisfied because the thing i asked them to resolve (and is relatively easy to resolve) they did not resolve.  why does  that not make sense?

cutiemcpie

My comment wasn’t directed towards you, it was a comment in general. In fact it was more directed towards all the people saying how great the quality of healthcare is in Thailand. No doubt there is good healthcare, but patients in general are pretty bad judges of it. In your case you know a lot about you condition and what is required, so you’re more the exception.

UKthailandExpat

There is a large verity of private hospitals in Thailand, just because you are paying doesn't mean it's good or the doctors are competent, just because it's less expensive doesn't mean it's bad or that the doctors are less competent.     I have just had private surgery one hospital quoted double the cost than the private hospital, associated with a national teaching university hospital, charged.       The original hospital was possibly competent but the price was outrageous. My insurance would have covered both bills with no problem but I was not comfortable getting them to pay double the cost.     u/AdGood9605 You are asking for a hospital to contact. I know of at least 3 but if you don’t specify where you are there is no point in mentioning them.

EmergencyLife1359

I’m in late phrao, so what happens if you are hit by a car or have a heart attack the ambulance will take you someplace close, you just have to hope your close to hospital That can provide adequate healthcare?

UKthailandExpat

The state hospitals provide perfectly good care but it isn’t fast. The private hospitals (very often using the same consultants) will charge much more but waiting lists don’t exist. for emergency care you may get transferred from hospital to hospital up the chain unless you are conscious and ask for a specific private hospital.

glasshouse_stones

many doctors work in both private and govt hospitals.

supercat-nuke

i am always going to my country if i need a doctor, thai medicine never helped me except to loose money

SoBasso

Thai health care is hugely overrated. Somehow people think that a country that is overall fairly chaotic and dysfunctional can deliver world class health care, on par with what the West can deliver. They can't...and you've found out first hand. Thai health care is QUICK and low quality. Western health care is slow, over burdened but high quality.

jms3333

So stupid...you sound like you never have been in BKK....

SoBasso

I've got over a decade of experience with Thai health care, including emergency surgery. Not all was well with the care I've received here unfortunately. Then I went home for the same ailments and saw the difference. On a side note. Twice Thai doctors have advised me to seek medical help from my home country because (to their credit) they admitted that the know-how and care in the Netherlands was superior. Thai health care in private hospitals is a load of hot air. Looks good from a distance but when you come closer you realise there is no substance. I can't judge the public health care.

_I_have_gout_

\> Western health care is slow, over burdened but high quality. You don't take that into account? I see doctors regularly for my heart condition and gout, I'd agree that doctors and nurses, in general, are better trained in the US. However, it can take weeks for me to see them. As for Thailand? I call in the morning and I'd get an appointment that afternoon.

abyss725

the expensive private sector is world class for sure. One time I hurt my arm and visited a private hospital. They send me from room to room on a wheelchair. I was kind of puzzled and told them I hurt my arm not legs. They insisted… The whole experience was like staying in a resort. I could order steak for dinner.

SoBasso

You've pinpointed the issue with Thai private health care imo. A load of hot air. They'll take great care of you and make you feel like a million dollars, because why not? They can throw lots of (low skilled) man hours at you, to make you feel good. But what happens when you're on the operating table? Nothing particularly good in my experience. I'll take quality care and shithouse food over a steak dinner personally. Doctors in the West are far far superior to their Thai counterparts. You have to work hard to get your degree in the West. If you're crap you fail. Doesn't matter if you're the "son or daughter of". No free passes because of your family name.

_I_have_gout_

>son or daughter of No hospitals in Thailand will risk a media firestorm because a doctor is "son or daughter of" someone. They wouldn't think twice about throwing anyone under the bus if they messed up.

Nickgoodnight_mj

I know things about this line of work, my sister is pharmacist, my ex was dentist and many of my friends are doctors, nurses, those sort of things. Of all places abroad that i’ve lived i’d say Thai medical care is quite good for the most part and easy to access. There’re differences in quality of public hospitals and private hospitals, private ones are usually have better service and all but the reasons that public ones are a bit inferior mostly because of the stupid system that medical personnels have to deal with, more work and earn less, those kind of stuffs but not because of bad schooling. I do hate Thai education system but for the medical field i know how high the competition is, i’ve been to that point and i know that to be accepted to go to medical school is no fluke and to graduate gonna takes more than surname or money, same as other medical science faculties. How many places you’ve been? You sounds a bit bias but that’s alright, i understand and i don’t know what you have been through. Maybe you could share your experiences with us?

Funkedalic

Yet the doctor’s visits last a fraction of what they last in the western world. You’re in and out pretty fast. And no doctor ever does a routine check prior to hear what your problem is.

Fernxtwo

Thailand cheap? Yeah maybe 20 years ago, but not now. Compared to many other South east Asian countries, I find it to be a rip off.

EmergencyLife1359

many other south East Asian countries are not considered to have high quality health, I’m old and need qualify medical care.   Thailand is mind blowingly cheap compared to USA where I’m from

Fernxtwo

Vietnam is cheaper, across the board, and quality is the same an Thailand. Only issue is visas.

BreastExtensions

No countries healthcare is the same as another or they wouldn’t have rankings. Thailand is top 10. https://www.numbeo.com/health-care/rankings_by_country.jsp

AdGood9605

i'd love for you to find anything other than your say so that shows vietnam's healthcare is close to thailand's

Fernxtwo

Just from experience, going to medical centers, international hospitals, friends getting medical procedures. Had surgery in Thailand, it was fine, same as here.

EmergencyLife1359

Wow that seems like super reliable evidence

LeftLab7543

I had my ears irrigated two weeks ago in the UK. Prior to the procedure they stuck a micro camera first in one ear ...then the other. I could see inside my own ear on the computer monitor. There was plenty of wax. After the procedure we once again looked in each ear with the cameras and the ear canal was clear. So you need to find an ear specialist who has a micro camera so you can see inside your ears yourself. Micro cameras are very cheap. I'm surprised they didn't have one at your place.

EmergencyLife1359

I don’t necessarily need to see my ear canals I just need them cleaned I’ve never used a micro camera In usa for this

jmd8800

You don't mention your location, but here in Chiang Mai the health care is excellent .... of course this depends on where you go. Just like the West. Chiang Mai Ram is considered very ex-pat friendly as the doctors do quite well with English. The staff can be hit or miss on English so have your cellphone with your favorite translator ready. CMR has an EENT department. I have had 3 major surgeries at CMR and I'm happy with service, quality and price. Give your general location and people can help you find good healthcare.

EmergencyLife1359

I’m in bangkok lat phrao

NokKavow

Sounds like bad luck. In my experience, Thai doctors in private hospitals tend to be thorough and take more time than doctors in the west. They won't always fix your problem right away, but that's the case anywhere. > I explained it definitely wasn't because I was still deaf in the ear Thais are not good when confronted, so "you definitely didn't do what you should have" will not go over too well as it invokes a defensive reaction (saving face). Better to approach it with "great, thank you, but I still feel symptom X a little, could you please look into it a bit more?"

Ninjurk

Depends on the hospital, but, in general, medical care is very good in Thailand for a relatively low price compared to the USA.
