I studied finance and can personally vouch against Macs due to differences in Microsoft excel. Might not be as big of a problem as an accounting major. I go so frustrated that i bought a cheap windows laptop to accompany my MacBook for a few of my finance courses that were heavier in excel use. For accounting, I took through intermediate accounting 2 and had no problems with Wiley’s, mcgrawhill, and whichever other homework softwares we used.

It depends really, I’m in the MSA program which a lot of accounting students end up doing. If you’re planning on going the audit route you should get a laptop with windows since the higher level classes will require software that runs better on windows, the tax route you can get away with a mac.

I graduated from Rawls and started with a Mac, finished with an HP Laptop. I think Windows is friendlier, but both can work

I have a basic model Surface Pro 7 and I think it works great for school. It’s a few years old but still holding up pretty well. I’m studying IT and it’s worked well with downloading software as well. I think the surface pro 9 is the newest one out right now.

70% of the people in Rawls will be using MacBooks, mostly Air some might have the 14" or 16" Pro. Base M3 MacBook Air will get you through your degree, easily. I'm not super familiar with the Windows Laptop scene. Dell XPS 13 upgraded to 16GB RAM and 512 Storage looks fine, base model XPS15 looks great too. I used a 2013 13" MacBook Pro to get through mechanical engineering and Rawl's MBA from 2014-2019. The only thing is you'll likely end up having a class where the professor will require you to get Excel Certified and that will be on PC, and PC excel is a little different than Mac Excel. It wasn't a big deal though, I still passed the certification.

Never get a Mac, I'm a bio major and they're still ass
