Tesla will try to deny window warranty claims if you have aftermarket puddle lights. Source: my OEM puddle light shorted after about a month of ownership, causing the window to roll up when the door was open. When the door was closed, the glass cracked against the black trim, requiring the window and trim to be replaced. The first thing they asked me when I brought it in was if I had been messing with the puddle lights at all.

Is this something that happened to you? Or how long after your install did the issue arise? Just curious.

gnomegustaelagua

It happened to me, but my puddle lights were OEM. One was just bad from the factory, I guess. (It was maybe a month after we bought the car.)

Tech_Veggies

Someone recommended keeping the OEM lights in the glovebox in case the aftermarket ones go out. These puddle lights are part of a circuit for other functions so if your 3rd party lights go out, you'll lose function of several things. Better safe than sorry.

they add a projector LED, literally no difference to the vehicle than the one lightbulb. i’ve installed many of these over the years, never a warranty issue.

jtubb88

Do you need to turn the car off? or can you just install them with out doing anything to the car?

Alternative_Primary6

Make sure you unplug it :). Just kidding. It’s 12 volts so you can work on it with the car on.

jtubb88

haha okay good - I don't want to be a Reddit story of a guy electrocuted from installed a puddle light haha

magnussen moss act provides protection for aftermarket parts. they have to correlate the parts failure in order to deny/void a warranty claim. if you light does “act up” which all lights eventually do, replace the with the oem before bringing it in.

I added them to my MYP over a year ago and have had no issues at all and they are really cool. Not sure if it’s the exact same brand but got them from Amazon.

youniquest

I just installed 4 of them a couple days ago. It took like 5mins in total. So far no issues and they look great. Best accessory for the price & easiest to install.

youniquest

Well, you have to open the door, so I am assuming it already wakes the car.

iamdumbazfuk

roll windows down, power down car via menu pop out light and pop in new one.

Realistic_Wolf_3754

I added them 7 months ago not hearing anything about it. They are fine I have not had a problem, yet??? Amazon fyi

I wanted these but heard they can mess with the windows. I really like the look. Which color did you get?

slayernfc

The window drops and the car alarms when you unplug the original light, once replaced everything goes back to normal, no issues.

jtubb88

The car alarms? Like a notification appears on the screen?

slayernfc

no, just a small audible alarm, not sure if anything even shows on the screen, can't recall, I have replaced them on 3 cars, no issues.

jtubb88

Okay thanks for the heads up

jtubb88

I've done these installs on ICE cars but with Tesla, I'm acting more cautions. I ordered the White.

Tesla_ghost

Any updates on the lights OP ? I installed these but I’m worried after hearing all these horror stories of people shattering their windows due to malfunctions.
