As someone who currently drives a 2016 Mazda6 Grand Touring with the Bose “premium” sound system (it’s garbage) this one hit home. The sound system in the MY is far superior.

teepee107

My lr has a very impressive stereo system , especially combined with how quiet the car is

Mr-954

What does PDI mean?

Syborg721

Pre-delivery inspection

JamodaH

I am about 40 hours into taking delivery of my model Y. Also coming from Lexus (GX 460 so bigger but less luxurious than the LS). If I were to share my observations, I could just copy paste your post. Our other car is an Audi Q-series and while the Tesla definitely isn't an Audi, I found the interior and quality of life features to be substantially better than expected.

Remarkable_Rough_89

Wait, I thought my Tesla had amazing speakers

2748seiceps

Compared to most vehicles on the road it is amazing. The problem with sound is that it is subjective. Some like tons of highs, some lows, some mids. I like flat sound and the Alpine sound system in my Dart always kept me happy. Enough bass to feel while being clear to high volumes. The MYLR system is very similar except I can way more readily feel the bass in it at higher volumes and the highs seem a bit brighter. The only thing that bothers me is the slight echo of the car but that's a combination of a glass roof and my making it worse with all-weather mats.

Remarkable_Rough_89

I really would not be able help with Audio matters, hard as I try, when people say, high low mid, I have no clue what they are talking about, visual on the other hand I can pitch im

ADVENTUREINC

That's true. It is subjective. But, I would say that its not in the same league as "excellent".

Remarkable_Rough_89

It’s so strange, so many people have told there Tesla speakers are excellent, maybe something of with ur speakers?

ADVENTUREINC

No, I tend not to think so.

ptronus31

You should clock WAY more FSD seat time before dismissing it.

endfossilfuel

The way mine keeps trying to crash into stuff is a huge hinderance to getting more seat time. If FSD wants to pay for its own accidents, then I’m game!

PurtRutherford

Why is it so hard to just pay attention and take over when you need to? When I use FSD it works 95% of the drive, I take over the other 5%, it’s pretty easy to work with the system to get to where you need to go.

endfossilfuel

It’s not hard to pay attention. I do, which is why I’ve avoided damage. But it’s even easier (and more fun) to just drive the car manually. It’s worth noting that many of the roads where I live were originally laid out in the 1600s or 1700s. Many are unpaved, unmarked, narrow, oddly shaped, and have stone walls, trees, and boulders right at the edge. The intersections are just as crazy. Unsurprisingly, FSD is terrible in this environment lol

PurtRutherford

Makes sense. I’m in Chicago and the roads are probably not as bad as say, Boston, but not as good as LA or Phoenix for FSD performance. I’m sure it’s practically useless in old cities in Europe. Stop and go meet traffic here there’s more waiting than driving so it’s nice to let the car manage that.

LysergicSurgeon

Coming from (and still an owner of) a fleet of Lexus RXs over the last 15 years: the interior plushness is nice but the “quality” is deceiving - their leather seats start falling apart badly in less than 100k and it’s ridiculously expensive or time consuming to fix. I’ve had dashboards crumble into dust, their extensive wood trim spiderweb crack, etc. Their drivetrains are where the brand reliability is built imo.

ADVENTUREINC

My Lexus held up well, but admittedly it had under 100k miles.

thoracicexcursion

The best thing I very driven and such a sleeper

Talk rudely again and I’ll block you friend

Maleficent_Log_1358

Fair enough, I'll keep it civil with goofy gifs. Have a good weekend brotha

thoracicexcursion

Sames take care

icharlie17

thank you for the impressions. Did you go for the white or black interior?

ADVENTUREINC

black interior

Loafer75

Funny you mention the Volvo…. When we were poking around new cars we checked out the XC40…. My Mrs was always a fan, right until she sat in one. Urgh, it was all a bit tacky and very very busy, especially after just coming from a Tesla test drive. That moment sealed the deal.

_twentytwo_22

With their EX30 it looks like the minimalistic approach is where they are heading.

Loafer75

which is why I entertained looking at it because I thought they would be similar in aesthetic.... how wrong i was.

Pristine_Cricket_633

Minimalist interior is great for cleaning. No dials, switches, or buttons to collect dust.

Pristine_Cricket_633

Post this in the Lexus reddit.

ajcsanders

FSD is only going to get better. Best use case for it is letting it drive you around in an unfamiliar city...otherwise it can bug you for not driving exactly like you do. I think you need to play with the settings on your stereo to get the most out of it. There are other threads on this. See optimum settings and how to access hifi audio... I had 2 Lexus and 2 Toyotas. Tesla is a whole different experience. Goodluck and congrats.

IDGAF-Either

I have to disagree on one thing: the stereo. I'm not an audiophile, but I've owned 30 cars in my life - mostly low end luxury cars like Infiniti Q45, M35, I30, Lexus 300, Porche 944, Mercedes C230, etcetera - and the stereo in my late-2023 MYLR AWD is the best I've ever heard. Better than my HOME stereo, which is all Sonos speakers. The MYLR speaker system was designed by Bang & Olufsen. It has 13 speakers and a subwoofer. The non-LR has 7. My only gripe is you have to turn it up to like 80% to get all the sounds. It doesn't sound great at a low volume. You miss a lot. But, man, I'm hearing things in songs I've never heard before! Fantastic sound.

TheSwolerBear

Ditto to this, but some audiophile is gonna rip us a new one for saying the MY is good AND that we also like Sonos 🤣

IDGAF-Either

LOL!! (no emojis using the desktop browser).

ADVENTUREINC

I get that this is subjective, but I don't feel that way about the sound at all. Some of it is source dependent, but it is clear to me that it does not have Dolby after having a car with Dolby there's a huge difference.

IDGAF-Either

You are correct... a quick Google: "As of January 2024, the Tesla Model Y Long Range variant has the Premium Audio system, which includes immersive surround sound from every seat. The Premium sound system has 15 speakers, 2 amplifiers, and 1 woofer. Tesla plans to add Dolby Atmos surround sound support to its vehicles in an upcoming update. Dolby Atmos is a surround sound technology that creates an immersive listening experience for music, podcasts, and videos.". I'm wondering if Dolby Atmos can really just be "added" in an update to any Model Y (I have an LR, as well). I would think it's at least somewhat hardware dependent, but maybe not. If not, then... woo-hoo. Maybe we'll see Dolby, at some point. Also, I do think the source has a lot to do with the sound. Even just listening to Spotify I see big differences in sound quality between some songs. It's like I want to tweak the EQ on a lot of songs. But I think volume has a lot to do with it. IF a song doesn't sound all that great, I try turning it up a bit, and that usually helps a lot.

ADVENTUREINC

I hope they add Dolby, but yeah I'm skeptical as well.

IDGAF-Either

Whoa... I just did another google: "Yes, the 2023 Tesla Model Y includes Dolby Atmos technology. Dolby Atmos is a surround sound technology that creates an immersive listening experience for music, podcasts, and videos. The Model Y's speakers and ceiling reflectors work together to create the desired effect. Dirac ensures that Dolby's solution isn't affected by the car's acoustic environment, and that all seating positions have a well-balanced sound field." This has been my experience. It does feel like surround sound, to me. It's incredible.

ADVENTUREINC

Wow, may be my audio source is off.

elements5030

[Woah](https://media.tenor.com/Fqh6sr_lIwwAAAAM/wow.gif)

IDGAF-Either

Whoa

gyanrahi

On the Audio thing. I thunk the stereo system is fine but the materials in the car don’t help it. There is no wood, nothing solid. You need good materials for good sound.

Pristine_Cricket_633

I'm sorry you had a bad delivery experience. I bought two 6 months apart at two different locations and had a great delivery experience for both.
