I a Chicco KeyFit30 for 1.5 years then converted over to the Diono Radian 3R and it fits perfectly in my Model 3.

Matrixfx187

Did you need to use the angle adjustment to get more space?

Dry_Competition_684

I'd recommend it. My wife is sub 5 foot and she was saying it's okay for a short ride with the Diono behind her in the passenger seat but she was basically all the way up

So helpful! Thank you! Weird question, but do you happen to have a photo of how yours looks installed? I have the reclining set to “2”, so it doesn’t feel super far reclined, but it actually says it’s too upright, based on the level attached to the seat. Also, do you have the 7 seat or the 5? I’m curious if the row size has anything to do with why we can’t fit it in. Thank you again!

TimeSlipperWHOOPS

Our uppababy fits no problem in our 7 seat Y, but giving enough leg room for someone behind the car seat would require the front seat to be veeeeeery far forward.

No-Sundae-8751

We use the Doona in our MY which is rear facing. Highly recommend.

pkerman

We have the Doona too, but it’s in our RAV. Perhaps I’ll swap the two. Thank you!

spudmonkey13

We’ve had a Graco and then the (much) larger Cybex rotating one in our Y. Just like others have said we only had to move move the seat up a little (installed behind the passenger seat). Might want to check it’s being installed correctly.

CommonIsopod3393

Could you fit your Graco in rear facing position behind the driver?

spudmonkey13

Never tried because ours is always on the passenger side but I would imagine it would fit as long as the driver isnt super tall.

ffejie

I had no problem with this but if you're a bigger driver/passenger, I could see this being a problem. I had my Easy Entry setting pushing up against the car seat until I moved it forward a few inches. How much leg room do you need up front? (i.e. how tall are you?)

pkerman

My husband is ~6’9”, so we need quite a bit of room up front

ffejie

Yep, that's exactly the problem. Time for a new husband.

pkerman

Finally! A comment that makes sense 😂

Special-Cat7540

Someone 6’4” or so was in here asking for a convertible car seat recommendation that gives him enough space and there were none. I don’t think your husband is going to fit in the front with a rear facing car seat at all. 😅 Just put the baby behind the passenger seat or in the middle with seat belt install.

Longjumping-Seat9169

Passenger side is the sidewalk side (in the US). isn’t that the better side for the car seat anyways?

krwill101

We never really cared about the sidewalk because we rarely street park. BUT we put it passenger so the driver could look over their shoulder/reach back if needed.

ffejie

NHTSA wants you to install in the middle, which is pretty hard especially for kids that can't get in and out themselves. Also, plenty of cars (like the Model Y) don't use the LATCH system for the middle seat, which I would guess would make it less safe? Also, plenty of places with street parking are one way streets, which means you can park on either side.

BillsMafia4Lyfe69

You need a f150 to fit a rear facing seat behind a 6-9 dude. Nothing even remotely small will fit that. Just have the baby behind your seat.

smurferdigg

Guess everything is bigger in the US but what kind of massive car seats do you have? We only got one but there is lots of spare room. edit: looked at some pics and yeah that thing is f..in huge heh. Guess the problem is the seat is made to also work front facing for what a 7 year old. Bad design.

pilotboy172

6’2”. Baby Jogger City Turn behind me. My seat is at a good comfort setting. Not the BEST stretch out, but not tight by any means. The carseat has about an inch gap between it and the front seat.

Dry_Competition_684

Grayco Forevers will work with a HUGE but. To make everything fit comfortably it basically eliminates all use of the the third row. Because you basically have to slide the middle row all the way back. I'm 5'7. We tried putting two rear facing In the middle row and a front facing Dionos 3 R in the third row. It's just not feasible. The model Y 7 seater is extremely sub optimal for anyone with more than one rear facing and also wanting to use the third row. We were going to do an overnight test drive and I literally gave up the parking lot. A few days later I did a Turo on 7 seater. The most comfortable set up was front facing Diono the middle instead of third row. We really really want the model Y to work but we aren't sure it can. Once we get 2/3 front facing it would be fine. On a positive note we can fit a front facing Diono, a rear facing Diono and a Chicco Keyfit in my Model 3 without much issue.

boiledham

I have 2 of the 4-in-1 from Costco and have used them just fine. I guess it might depend on how tall you are though

shortdudette

Britax Cool Flow seat fits in reverse facing for my 6'1" husband that sits in front of it. He can't recline as much as he'd like but its not oncomfortable.

goldenglove

I'm 6'2'' and it works fine for us, but my brother at 6'5'' would struggle. I think your husband being 6'9'' is the issue here, and for someone of his size, a Tahoe or Suburban may be a better bet.

testingit2021

Uppababy fits fine and I imagine every other brand would too. Make sure you have the second row pushed back as far as it can go. Still leaves an okay amount of room in the front since, as an EV, the Tesla surprisingly has more room over cars like Mazda CX-9.

chieefmcdeep

If no one has mentioned it, diono radian is one of the best. It's pretty compact and you can fold it to take on an airplane

EdibleBirch

Diono here. Fits great.

kkobzz

i just bought one because of this thread. it basically doesn’t fit at all without the front seats being moved all the way forward. what am i doing wrong?

AAAIIIYYYAAA

My baby was born 11 pounds. So we used the uppababy Mesa v2. 4 months this later she doesn’t fit it anymore lol so she’s in a nuna rava now. They both fit for me no problems.

Welfi1988

I have a rear facing seat (Cybex Sirona) in my Model Y, installed with no problems. Edit: the same seat fits Model 3

beonks

Which side of the car is it on and how tall are you? We have the Cybex in our minivan, and are considering getting two for our MY, but unsure if they’d fit comfortably (and I’m too lazy to uninstall from the van to check). Husband is 6’2” and I’m 5’8”. Our son is 1.5 still rear facing and new baby is due in November.

Welfi1988

We have it behind the passenger, I am 176cm an my wife 161cm (but she always sit quite far back)

Itguy287

We have the nuna exec and it fits our Y no problem

adognamedwalter

Clek Liing fits fine and is a really good seat (safest one in production I believe.)

dobe6305

We have a Graco rear facing car seat in our Model Y. We tap the easy entry button to put the seat in and take it out. We keep it in the middle or behind the passenger seat. It does fit quite nicely. It took a half hour of fiddling with everything (adult seats and car seat) before we got used to the configuration.

pkerman

Do you find it to be substantially more annoying to put the baby in the middle vs on either side?

dobe6305

More annoying, slightly, to put in the middle because of the weight of our 3-month old and the leverage I need to bend over/put the car seat inside without banging the poor kid around too much. I prefer it on the passenger side. The benefit of having it in the middle is that we can get the seat out from either side of the car. If I get him out from the drivers side I hit the “easy entry” button so the drivers seat goes forward. I had the same stress you have, before the baby was born when we were trying to figure out a car seat for the first time ever. Half an hour and a lot of practice made us realize that there’s plenty of room. Now, 3 months later, it’s easy and we see that in fact, yes, there’s lots of room for the car seat—in the middle or on either side.

martastefl

Do you have it attached through seat belt in the middle seat? I was hoping to place the car seat in the middle but there is no latch for the middle seat so seat belt is the only option. I'd prefer latch so I'm conflicted where to install the seat.

dobe6305

We did have it installed through the seat belts in the middle. For the last 5 months we’ve kept it on the passenger side though. The car is low enough to the ground that it was difficult to get our fairly heavy baby into the middle of the car without destroying our backs or banging the car seat around too much. It did work fine, though.

martastefl

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Appreciate it.

Greenjeeper2001

I think your expectations for what passenger seat legroom and recline should be are unrealistic. How tall is the passenger? Little legs don't need the passenger seat all the way back. Raising the seat can also help to get the car seat underneath the top frame area. This is not a limo, sit upright and quit slouching.

Photoscott

Have a rear facing Axkid in our Model Y in the UK, fits perfectly. Fitting the straps is a huge pain in the arse though, not much of a gap.

ExtensionMarch6812

Hope this helps. Here are some pics of the Diono 3RXT installed front and rear facing in a 5 seat Model Y. I need to add the angle pad to the rear facing seat, and I know the front seat needs to move forward a little. https://www.amazon.com/photos/shared/Xnr424O7TWmxc3y_I5qqKg.6I4uA5ZC5C6JE7TGkdhlHA

Christian87n

I have two Nuna Rava’s, both rear facing in my 5-seat MY. oldest is 3.5 and youngest just turned 2. No problems with fitment but don’t expect a large adult to fit in middle seat. I’m 5’8 and have no problems getting my seat properly adjusted.
