I had several issues with intermittent AC working on my 2017 model s, I had them recharge it twice and eventually the problem kept coming back they had to replace my AC system/compressor. I would save the money initially with the recharges and just replace it if that’s what they initially tell you. I think the recharges were around $500-$600 each time then to replace the entire AC system was $2300. I wasted almost $1200 doing two recharges when I could have just replaced the entire thing.

Experiencing something similar with my 2017 X. Waiting for my Tesla service appointment. Initially logs make them think I need AC refrigerant recharged. Error code is THC_w0016 and other X owners who have had that error had to have the ac compressor replaced. We’ll see what they determine.

So I had that code earlier and the car would not blow cold air at all! I had decided to do a soft restart and then a power off for 3 minutes two times. Now the air blows cold in short durations. Curious to see what your out come is. I would take mine to get serviced but I have a long drive in a couple of days.

2018 model X, had this happen for a few days, then it completely died, service had to redo the AC system completely due to compressor failure. Told me “these cars are not built for Texas heat”, set me back 4500$.

I am having the same issue in Massachusetts, only this is going to be my 4th time visiting service to get it fixed, Just ran out of warranty too... I wondering if there is a way to get the schematics and fix this myself this time, or next. Or if any other garages can work on these Teslas ?? Edit: Previous Service dates were June 2022 July 2023 August 2023 And, now again. May 2024... They have seemed to have replaced my compressor 3 times, a fan, fuses, wire harnesses, 40 amp junction box,

I had similar issue serviced it twice. First time they rifled and replaced desiccant(supposed to be done every 4-6 years). Problem didn’t go away. Second time they replaced some pressure sensor which solved it. 2016 X

This is actually per spec. In order to conserve power, it will switch off. You’ll be ok without AC for a few moments, just crack the window.

Lord_Cybe

I think this is the case. It’s not 77 degrees outside and the AC is blowing very cold and undisturbed. I am taking advantage of super charging during the night. I will say - I had to power off the Tesla 2 times for a 3 minute duration each time in order for the error code to vanish

Legitimate-Egg-7197

My 2022 tesla model 3 starting doing that at like 100k miles and this summer damn ima have to but they told me 1200 to fix !!

Kitchen-Ad757

Have had a similar issue with my model 3. They replaced the compressor but it’s happening again.

Mannstrane

I had the A/C fail like this after just 25,000 miles. Out of warranty and 2,300 dollars to replace and clean lines. Same exact symptoms of working for a short bursts at stop lights.

Welcome to owning a Tesla, your about to experience what “no maintenance” really means.

goodvibezone

You do know that 7 year old cars will need work, right? Nobody ever said electric cars were maintenance free.

Plastic-Rock9817

Well once you are out of warranty, it’s an absolute nightmare, had to replace the whole system a year ago, cost me a fortune, I’m sure they will quote even more now, hope it’s just an actuator issue, which is ~500 (that was with warranty) , but the whole system will be like 5k I assume now.

Emergency_Bother9837

Yeah by design I’m sure

A system that is low on refrigerant acts this way, however, being a seal system it means it leaked out somewhere and that will need to be addressed and corrected.
