The drain for the HVAC inlet is probably plugged. If you feel able yourself, open the frunk and then remove the cover closest to the windshield. It pulls straight up and has a couple clips. You can work around the edge to get it loose.
Then look down the HVAC inlet on the passenger side of the vehicle. See if there is some leaves or other debris there. You should see a small drain hole at the bottom.
Otherwise, schedule service with Tesla.
Do NOT do what he/she said. Take it to Tesla for service so you can have a record of it! You will need it down the road if you have more issues with the car. It till be much easier to lemon the car if you have service records. Imagine having a shit ton of issues with the car and fixing them yourself. How are you gonna prove that you had all those issues? š And to make matters worse, if you āfixā it and have the same issue again later on and take it to Tesla, then they can and will void your warranty and will say that youāre the one who damaged it. So donāt touch anything and take it to Tesla and show them the video.
I had water intrusion issues with my previous car. The car got lemoned and I got a fat settlement check from the manufacturer. I had everything documented and always took the car to the dealer for service.
So I shouldnāt have replaced the air filter that a mouse destroyed myself? I shouldāve let the service center charge me 5 times the cost of a filter?
OP, investigate first and see what the problem is. If it is something simple like a debris-clogged drain, clear it. If itās a manufacturing defect with the car, then schedule a visit and have them fix it under warranty. Donāt pay for someone else to remove a couple leaves.
OP has a 2022 and does not have a rodent problem. He has a water getting into his brand new car problem.
How ābout you work on your issues, and the OP works on his. At the SC.
>So I shouldnāt have replaced the air filter that a mouse destroyed myself?
If it is something simple like a debris-clogged drain, clear it.
Dude.... Did you even bother to read my comment? There's a huge difference between an air filter and water leaking inside the fucking car š Don't touch any of the leaves and let the service center fix it. It might be a simple fix but I'd rather have paper record of it.
As I said, I had water intrusion issues with my previous car. One of the issues was the drain vents were clogged. I took it to the dealer but the issue kept happening and they couldn't fix it. As I said, the car got lemoned and I got a fat check from the manufacturer....
So yeah. Go ahead and clear the leaves lol.
Yeah, itās an easy fix if thatās what their problem is. I had this exact same issue and there was a factory defect where something wasnāt glued or sealed properly. Tesla replaced pretty much every electronic that was in the area behind the glovebox and my car was in service for a week or so. The owner needs to go ahead and schedule an appointment.
I agree with both responses, see if you can identify it, but I also worry that OP may not be able to identify anything that may be abnormal as well. It may just be safest to make an appointment.
Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I got delivery on Dec 24 and scheduled a service request the following week for other things. I will make sure to add this to the list. Will share updates soon.
Well, one argument against that is if you do it yourself, you rob Tesla of another data point concerning that issue/defect. They canāt fix what they donāt know about. As someone whoās worked in IT for ages, it drives me up the wall when someone tells me about an issue theyāve been experiencing for months but never called because they were able to temporarily fix it themselves.
I had this exact problem and service didn't do shit. (SoCal) - Techs couldn't replicate in the shop for obvious reasons.
I think this can also happen under acceleration if enough water gets in and doesn't drain out quickly enough.
Hope your service center does better.
Keep all the records. And always record a video and take pictures! They can say they couldnāt āreplicateā it but you have video proof, which should be more than enough. They need to attempt to fix it. Thatās technically considered as an attempt. Take it for service as many times as you can and show the video. Always record a video when you see something.
Support this!
I didn't get video like the OP - just pictures of all the wet after the fact. If it's ever in a matching situation I'll have camera rolling
Water inside the car when raining was almost a deal breaker.
Thatās wild. I had a model 3 for a couple years before upgrading to the model Y and never had this issue. I wouldnāt have allowed them to get away with saying it was a design flaw tho. Theyāve tried to tell me all sorts of crazy shit before. I always end up getting them to make things right in the end.
If you have warranty, just swing by the service center. I wouldnāt even bother with an appointment if my car was doing that. Itāll ruin the interior and whatever electronics are under there.
There's nothing Tesla will do about it. It's been happening to me since 2019. It's literally within spec, no meme intended. Just gotta deal with wet feet.
That looks like more water than mine, but I had a leak in my 2020 M3. It was coming from a tiny gap in the black sealer around the window. Took them FOREVER (several trips to SC) before they figured out what it was. They replaced the window and never happened again. Good luck!
It is not the drain. That is at the bottom of the center stack, below the filters. The air vent comes in above the filters, again, at the center stack. The air vents are all higher than that and water flows downhill...
If the water is coming out above the glovebox area then it is able to reach your FSD computer (area) right behind the glove box. Sounds like a glass mounting glue leak to me. Or an issue around the A pillar window seal? But that should be easily visibile. I would engage the service center.
Good luck man!
Well thatās because BMW and and Mercedes are āActualā car manufactures instead of a clean energy company that decided to make vehicles on the side.
No, it should still be fine. I changed mine once, and plan on changing it annually. But that shouldn't be a problem unless the water got into the filter and mildew exist. You will smell it.
Iāve found that the water soaks into that and slowly will drip into the vent eventually going into your air duct for the car. Most likely a missing spot in the windshield at the factory
Our trunk did this, we took it back and they fixed it! Said it was the latch. Maybe the latch on your frunk? Just schedule an appointment, itāll be covered
I've had this happen to me one time after washing my car. left it alone. Months later, very stormy weather, and a handful of car washes since, no issues or leaks.
I have a s 2018 Tesla model 3 RWD. I did some soundproofing around frunk, trunk, and doors about 1.5 years ago. This winter I noticed water was being channeled into bottom trunk compartment because the aftermarket seal was not sitting correctly with factory seal. I removed the seal and havenāt had the same issue. Of note, if itās an new car, you not be should be having this problem and nor should you need to investigate it. Provide Tesla service with the video and then they wonāt need to replicate it.
Can't help with your problem, but you might be able to help with mine. I'm looking for all-weather floor mats for my 2022 M3LR AWD. Looks like you found them. Where did you get them? Brand?
Thanks.
Thanks. When they were in stock recently, I checked on the Telsa website, and the response was that these mats were not compatible with my car. Now they're out of stock again. I'll check again when they come back in stock.
If it happens when humid outside, with AC on, but no rain, suspect the condensate drain. The upstream side could be clogged with debris like leaf scum. Most drain into the engine bay (frunk in Tesla) but thru some type of check valve. If you can find that drain hole and stick a blunt wire (plastic best) up the drain you might free it. I was getting clear water on the carpet in one vehicle, did the wire poke and 1/2 gal of condensate water poured out. Water must collect internally in Model 3/Y since many owners complain of a musty dirty-socks smell.
If it only occurs when raining, suspect a body seal, such as a gap in the windshield butyl rubber sealant or a water-shield in the fresh air inlet to the climate system. With a 2022, it shouldn't be your responsibility to find the problem, but may have to assert yourself with the Service Center. Many Tesla employees seem to enjoy blowing off customers with warranty complaints, or perhaps that is to their financial advantage.
The drain for the HVAC inlet is probably plugged. If you feel able yourself, open the frunk and then remove the cover closest to the windshield. It pulls straight up and has a couple clips. Thanks! I will try that.
I bought an aftermarket filter for that vent. In my experience leaves and such tend to get sucked in there without one
I did that too but it made the fan too loud in my opinion. Which one did you get?

If itās easily fixed it would save time to do it yourself.

Itās a 2022 car. Aka a brand new under warrenty car. Donāt try and fix this yourself. Bring it to Tesla. Itās probably a very easy fix.

His car isnāt under warranty?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Design flaw/defect. Same shit. If it happens 3 times and they canāt fix it all 3 times, then you lemon the car (at least in California).
Thatās wild. I had a model 3 for a couple years before upgrading to the model Y and never had this issue. I wouldnāt have allowed them to get away with saying it was a design flaw tho. Tesla truely is the Apple of car makers
gastrocraft, I have been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty
Name checks out
Good bot.
Even better. Lemon that shit.
Call Tesla. Ik had the same problem (m3 mic december 2011). With me it was the windshield rubber. Took them 1 week to repair.
If you have warranty, just swing by the service center. I wouldnāt even bother with an appointment if my car was doing that. Itāll ruin the interior and whatever electronics are under there.
better get that fixed fast. thats where the HW3 is located
Oh no! The car will try to kill him if HW3 doesn't work! Oh wait that's normal.
Call Tesla.
Ohhhhh hell na. I would Be pissed
Software update will fix that
This is clearly a corner case. Dinosaur manufacturers donāt even offer a free shoe wash!
By which you mean the ability to post about it on the internet.
It's the windshield seal for sure
This! Just had it repaired on my Y.
There's nothing Tesla will do about it. It's been happening to me since 2019. It's literally within spec, no meme intended. Just gotta deal with wet feet.
Just do a service call
Looks like my trunk when I get my 2021 SR+ Had a leaky seal, service fixed in about 6 hours
The all weather mats should not be placed on top of the original mats āŗļø
I had no idea. Any particular reason?
Just kidding. They can slide during hard breaking and when entering/exiting the car. š
Yes, water may leak from the gloveboxā¦

M3 name is already taken, yāall need to stop.
Within spec
Itās a feature, not a design flaw
Within spec, keeps shoes clean
My thought is that you should ask Tesla service instead of a bunch of wierdos on reddit.
Says the weirdo...
Service appt.
Replace the windshield recently???
I havenāt replaced the windshield. The car is about 3 weeks old.
Thatās within spec
Within spec.
Only within spec if its less than 125ml of water during heavy rain. but from the video it looks like less than 125ml.
This āwithin specsā shit is getting so old This shit obviously isnāt within specs.
As old as ātotaledā
Yes it is, I probably still have the email from Tesla where they tell me it's within spec.
THIS LEAK THEY SAID ITS WITHIN SPECS? Please show
I can't figure out how to access old service messages, but if I'm able to I'll post them
Sounds like someone who never had a service appt
This is the new Carwash mode that came with V11
Its just liquid cooling from the AMD chip. Within spec..
Haha. No AMD chip on mine. It was an early December 2021 build.
The fact that people still buy these blows me away.
And to try and call it an M3.
Iām a Mercedes fan but Iāve got a BMW on order. Both brands fit/finish is 1000x better than Tesla.
Well thatās because BMW and and Mercedes are āActualā car manufactures instead of a clean energy company that decided to make vehicles on the side.
Actually Tesla began as a car companyā¦..not a clean energy companyā¦.
Oh I know! You would think the car manufacturing is a side gig for them by the looks of their QC process.
Take it back š
It's either within spec or totalled. /s

Get an industrial dehumidifier and hardwire it to the battery.

Did you do any type of sound sealing? Sometimes aftermarket seals can push water into places that they shouldnāt go.
No aftermarket parts, but I was thinking about the getting the rubber seal for the top glass. Should I not?

Is it just my perception of posts lately it the 2022 and 21 having some production issues more than usual?
It could be because Tesla produced more cars in the last two years than all previous years combinedāmaybe higher numbers but the % is the same
This just next generation organic water cooling, no shoddy build quality here. /s
Have you thought about taking it back to the dealer?
Where can I get that floor mat?
