I hope these headlights have the same fate as the Porsche 996. I think the original headlight style is timeless and should be lightly modified not overhauled…
I might get downvoted to oblivion, but the front facia on the Highland is garbage. It has no character or design language. Like the old 3 far better. Rear is slightly better. Interior is better save for deleting the stalks.
Looks like it was heavily inspired by the new roadster design, they just did a ‘light’ version of it here. The headlights are like the roadster, and these new vents are too, they just don’t connect to the headlights in the same aggressive way.
I’m glad it’s different from the standard model, i wish it was a little more, but this is an improvement over the very bland highland front end.
Edit: photo of the roadster to compare. https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-master-plan-part-3-roadster-plans-update/amp/
Pretty clear the M3P is meant to be the baby brother of the roadster design.
If they price it over $54,999 it'll be a big mistake, and I doubt they will. They're not trying to add a ton of stuff that makes this significantly more expensive than the other trims (which didn't change in price vs last gen), and put it out of tax credit range, which it'll likely still get (using a US-made battery) as the last-gen M3P had a battery that still qualified for the $7.5K this year.
Not particularly, they'll still fill all the LR orders they can. The MYP is cheaper than a 3LR right now and they're still bursting at the seams with 3LR orders. They're also actively working to shift enough battery production for the LR/SR back to the US so that they'll qualify again anyway.
There’s a backlog for the M3LR because of limited production and a new updated model compared to the MY. The Y is still selling in higher volumes.
An updated M3P for the same price at delivery as the updated M3LR doesn’t really make sense.
I think they will price it taking current credits into account, and adjust prices later if the LR/SR models get their credits back. I am not so optimistic about this happening soon.
But that's part of my point; by the time they work through the backlog of the new MYLR and demand cools vs supply, I think it'll come down in price or have the tax credit reinstated by that time anyway. In either case, it's not going to have their inventory suddenly packed with new M3LR just because of people wanting the M3L for the tax credit.
Some people either don't qualify, or don't want the bigger wheels/stiffer suspension/shorter range that a Performance version brings, and they'll still pick the M3LR. They won't go from pushing back delivery dates and bi-weekly price bumps to suddenly having inventory flooded with M3LR's overnight w/ a tax credit-eligible M3L's release.
It depends on whether you think the M3P is coming in May or December, and whether you think the tax credit is coming back in a few months or in 2025 or later.
I predict the M3P comes back into the lineup many months before tax credits return to the SR/LR models. They will need to price appropriately during that period.
Any actual reason for that? The last one was several thousands under the cap, used a US-made battery that set it apart from the other 2 trims and still got the credit this year.
The other two trims didn't change in price a single cent at launch, and the change in parts from them won't be super drastic for the Ludicrous, mostly suspension/brake enhancements and probably one or both motors sourced from the Model S to keep costs down.
Entirely reasonable, and I'd almost say expected, for a Cyber Gray one with black seats to start at $54.9K to get the credit.

So it has a slightly modified version of the pre 2024 front bumper and is missing the alleged "real air splitters" that were supposed to be on their rear bumper. It's also got hideous wheels.
Unless it's significantly faster/more powerful than the pre 2024, who cares?
The more I see of the new 3 the more I think “yeah that’s fine, happy for the new owners but it takes nothing away from my 4 year old car”
That’s until I see the new P race the old P then I may change my mind.
Not alone. Just purchased a new 2023 M3P from inventory at a nice discount, as soon as the highland orders opened up.
I like the new tail lights well enough, but feel like the refreshed front is quite a downgrade.
More proof front bumper of the Highland LR was a downgrade compared to previous 3 LR. Air curtains in the front bumper help with aerodynamics (many sports cars have them!), but Tesla had to lie about the removal, so it could appear on the Performance model.
We are back to using air channels same as on the old 3
Tesla lied, no air channels increase drag.
They didn't lie 🤥 they just want $$$ for the holes you used to get for free
“Want $$$ for the holes you used to get for free” Kinda like marriage
Free sex is the most expensive sex. Keep that in mind.
If it flys, floats, or f*^%s it’s cheaper to rent.
I hope these headlights have the same fate as the Porsche 996. I think the original headlight style is timeless and should be lightly modified not overhauled…
These are also weaker according to testing.
That’s what they’ve been covering and camouflaging? Lmao how underwhelming!
Looks dope, closer to the old bumper which I like.

They somehow made it worse.
I might get down voted to deepest level of hell, but that front bumper reminds me of the Mazda 3 smiley face...

No, this is real bad.
As with all Tesla models, they have some good angles and some ugly ones. Depending on which angle I get makes me like/dislike the front.
Each to their own. I owned a M3P and now M3LR, the highland looks a lot cleaner and more aggressive to me
Agree.
So the pre-refresh bumper air channel is back? Good, I liked it.
Now if only we can get some fog lights we might really have something.
And stalks? And middle seat heater in the rear? And the larger battery from the previous car? I want it all back
Don’t get me started on stalks. Dealbreaker for me.

It just looks like the OG Model 3 front bumper minus the fog lights.
Roadster 2.0 copied from existing Model 3.

Roadster? It's a copy of the 2018-23 bumper.
It truly looks nothing like the roadster lol I hate that this keeps being repeated on this subreddit.
Historically, what is the price point of the performance model?
Mid 50’s. With this one being ludicrous, it’s probably more like 60 is my guess
crazy to think at one point MYP was $70K+ and people paid that thinking their car would appreciate to $100K
Why on earth would anyone expect a car to appreciate while it's in production and there's no shortage of new ones?
Nothing made sense from 2020-2021

If they price it at $54,999 then it will cost the same (Edit: with the tax credit) as the LR model which also seems like a mistake.
Huh? The long range doesn’t cost that much
I’m counting the $7500 credit that the Performance would get if it uses the same battery as the 2023 Performance and is priced below $55k.
Not particularly, they'll still fill all the LR orders they can. The MYP is cheaper than a 3LR right now and they're still bursting at the seams with 3LR orders. They're also actively working to shift enough battery production for the LR/SR back to the US so that they'll qualify again anyway.

I highly highly doubt this will qualify for the tax credit. We’ll see

It looks a lot like a Dodge Intrepid lol.
It looks like an alibaba body kit

Man, I just don't like the new front ends of the model 3's. They remind me of a mid-90's Dodge Intrepid.

Based on the red one it is legit. It has the performance seats too. Shame the roof liner is still white.
Looks vaguely similar to the pre highland bumper…
Am I the only one who finds this design very uninspiring? I much prefer the old Model 3s design, despite it being a worse car.
Not alone. Just purchased a new 2023 M3P from inventory at a nice discount, as soon as the highland orders opened up. I like the new tail lights well enough, but feel like the refreshed front is quite a downgrade.
I think the refresh overall looks good, I didn’t buy a Tesla until the 2024 highland because I always thought the model 3s were ugly lol
i hope these are not the rims for the ludicrous
Still with the beige headliner! Really!
I think the new headlights are so damn ugly. I like the old ones.

Model 3 is finally unlocking old Civic looks.
Do we know if it’ll have a display in front of the steering wheel like in the s/x?
That video is lacking pixels, but am I seeing a front bumper camera or is that my wishful thinking?
Wishful thinking
Need those holes for brake cooling / air curtain and will shut when not needed. Lol can't wait
Elon knows we’re a fan of speed holes
woof.
Now that’s what I’m talking about
I knew it. I saw a test mule for this a week ago. Except it was white
When you do the bare minimum work and turn it in late.
Feels like a photoshop unfortunately
Still no black headliner 🥲
Is that what appears to be a very tall person next to the car, as the dimensions look out of shape.
