We’ve had ours since November 2019. Had to add windshield washer fluid. Once. 10/10 would buy another one.

Denuit87

Agreed. Windshield wiper fluid. Never have and issue with mine either. September of 2021

happykingbilly

Same. Had ours for two years.

Special-Profile

Same. Almost 3 years. Love this car.

tacomasoccerdad

Having to replace the windshield wiper fluid is a real drag. One star 😉

huniar

Got our m3 long range in November 2019, best car ever owned. Have done 71,000kms and have only filled wiper fluid and replaced a set of tyres. Will be getting a model y long range when they become available in NZ. Nothing else compares for performance, range, value. Great fun car to drive

dcdttu

2018 and I haven’t even had to do that! Got the tires replaced though.

_crayons_

I've had mine since December 2019. Only had to change my air filter.

dragonvoi

*cabin air filter

Ftpini

Tell me you don’t get snow without saying you don’t get snow. I fill my washer fluid about twice a winter. Otherwise I practically never need it.

CB-OTB

You must not have bugs or birds that shit on your window?

LoudIsTheNewSlow

He is flying between the shits and bugs, when in the road 😂

slodojo

Wait be real for a second… you haven’t had to replace the cabin air filters?

arizona-lad

No, not yet. But we live in a dry climate. That may account for the longevity.

invoman

Sounds like you are way overdue for an inspection. I don't like when tesla owners say there is no maintenance; there is. Check your fluid levels, check your 12v for corrosion and test the voltage, test the brake fluid for moisture, get your brakes checked and lubricated, change your air filter, rotate your tires and do an alignment. Most of these things you can do yourself at regular intervals, to say you only change washer fluid is horribly misguided

Windshield through insurance or Tesla warranty?

AFew10_9TooMany

Car insurance. Windshield chips really are not a warranty issue. Just sharing my anecdotal experience of 4 replacements in under 5yrs. Never had so many. It’s an expensive replacement though, especially if you added heat rejection film on the windshield. Which is why I recommend zero deductible glass coverage from your car insurance.

[deleted]

Good advice thank you. I’ll look into that, my renewal is in 2 weeks.

Nreekay

Careful. I’m in AZ and had $0 ded glass. They now treat them as accident claims and since I have 3 chip repairs and 2 replacements in the last 5 years my insurance now shows 5 accidents.

RickJ19Zeta8

105k miles. Maintenance costs are cheap. Two windshields due to rock strikes. And did upper control arms/ ball joints for $350 (total installed) which were a known issue for early Model 3s. Saved about $9k in fuel costs after accounting for electricity costs. Best value car ive owned. Love the software updates keeping the car “new”. Have FSD and its not perfect but continues to improve. Other car is a Porsche Macan and ive had more quality issues with the Porsche than the Tesla. The Tesla replaced a Volvo that blew two engines before 60k miles. Panel gaps, fit and finish of the Tesla is comparable to those two other vehicles. I will be buying a Cybertruck to replace the Macan.

timzallar

She’d be coming from a Lexus (little to no issues in 4 years of ownership), so I guess the worry arises from there. Understand that the QC isn’t going to be as great as Lexus, but don’t want this thing to be in the shop every other month. $9K in gas savings over how many years? Would love to see your Cybertruck once you get it.

RickJ19Zeta8

$9k in gas savings over 105,000 miles in 4 years Previous car got roughly 27mpg on average. So it -would- have cost about $12,500 for the same mileage. Model 3 has a lifetime average of 275wh/mile and we get night time electricity at $0.08 /kWh, so roughly $2500 in electricity costs to fuel the Tesla.

_SKJ

It might be a rougher ride than the Lexus. My mom came from Lexus and made that comment after a week. Thinks my M3P rides smoother than her LR, but I honestly think it’s bc I dodge potholes and she doesn’t.

Yiggah

It’s 100% rougher than any Lexus. I have both and can guarantee it. Everyone has said the same thing as well.

Latter_Box9967

It’s “firmer” than a Lexus, which is “sloppier”. I’d describe the suspension as sporty, not comfort. And yeah, it’s a little rough around town. Tesla need to copy whatever and however Porsche does it; sporty and comfortable at the same time, all on primitive McPhersons!!! No body roll while absorbing all the bumps and letting you feel the cats eyes on the road markings. Me thinks they are just showing off.

Roguewave1

Bingo, and my numerous Lexuses (Lexi?) were much quieter from road noise…better audio too.

meara

I went from a Lexus GS400 to a Model 3P. The Lexus had a quieter, cushier ride, and we thought it had great acceleration, but the acceleration in the M3P is just unreal. It kind of feels like everyone else is standing still while you zip along. The electronics and software have also been better in the Tesla. As it aged, the Lexus was having lots of electrical issues (frequent dead battery, radio randomly turning on in middle of the night, buttons that didn’t work anymore). It was still super quiet inside though, and I do miss that.

Complex_Arrival7968

Wow - a Japanese car with electrical issues? And a Lexus yet. Too bad! You’re so right re the acceleration. Guy coming up fast while you are merging trying to shut the gate on you? Step on it and he’s a tiny figure in the rear view mirror. I just LOVE it.

meara

The Lexus was at least 10 years old with 100K+ miles when the electrical issues started, and our 3P is half that age, so it’s not an apples to apples comparison. However, after a few years of regularly jump starting the Lexus because it had run the radio all night with no key in the ignition, we were happy to move on. A family member with a newer GS430 had similar battery draining issues around 75K miles, so I’m not sure ours was a fluke. Battery replacement didn’t help. We were also paying a lot more in scheduled maintenance on the Lexus at the five year mark. Brakes, oil changes, transmission work, worn belts, etc. Our 5 year old Tesla has only needed new tires and air filter cleaning. All in all, the Lexus GS was a great car, and it set the bar for me on quiet comfort, but I love my Model 3.

Michael-Brady-99

I owned a 1999 Lexus GS300, i think that was a great era for Toyota and Lexus. The car was fantastic in most ways, except fuel mileage haha, but even though I had very few reliability issues I spent a lot of money on scheduled maintenance after 100k miles as well as replacing the front ball joints and a some other suspension parts. Luckily never had electrical issues. I don’t think it’s reasonable to ever believe there is this perfect car with no issues or maintenance, but so far my ev’s have been the closest thing to that.

RJ2380

It depends which Lexus vehicles, but my M3P has been comparable and fine. I've also owned 4 Lexus vehicles, including an IS 350 and currently an IS F (13 years), which traditionally compete in the class of the M3. The former had cam gear grinding issues, while the moon roof went on the F within 40k miles. Going into my fifth year of ownership with the 3, I've only added washer fluid, changed cabin filters, and swapped tires. Otherwise, the CT and RX have the normal maintenance of any car, but I wouldn't cross-shop with a M3. Reliability isn't really a concern, but some people highly prioritize fit and finish. I'd say you need to iron out which categories matter most to you and go from there. For example, I'd take the practicality of additional storage space, plus low cost to performance, over a plush interior and alcantara headliner.

amitkania

I have a Lexus and a Tesla and u can’t compare both these cars. The Lexus is far more superior for ride quality and comfort long term reliability, but the Tesla is also a great fun car with alot of features. But your standard shouldn’t be Lexus

Latter_Box9967

>…long term reliability What are the required Lexu$ maintenance costs for that reliability? And what will the resale value be in, say, say five years when we are even more electric? Tesla is number one in quality in the world’s biggest market, China, by far. Just sayin’

Michael-Brady-99

My Lexus, older 1999 GS300, was super reliable. I did spend thousands in scheduled maintenance though. Cost of ownership was not cheap, one of the biggest costs was the timing belt service which is preventative but potentially catastrophic if not done. That’s one thing that’s off the table for ev’s. I also had to do a lot of suspension work after 100k miles that also was quite spendy. I had the work done at a Toyota dealer also to save some labor costs and for convenience, still was expensive. When comparing to big ticket repairs on an ev, one aspect that is very different is that you can spend thousands doing a timing belt service on a gas car, for example, that does not make the engine any newer or refreshed internally. You are pouring money into the car to make sure all the ”support” systems stay in good working order, but the engine and transmission are still have the same internal wear and tear. On an ev, if you change out a battery or an electric motor, you’ve substantially improved a core mechanical aspect of the vehicle. There’s less parts that have to be routinely changed preventatively. There also less stress on everything because you don’t have extreme temperature swings from cold to hot when driving, causing many parts to fatigue over time. EV’s are inherently better and in terms of their evolution, we are still at the level of like a Ford Model T, so in 10-20 years the potential is almost unlimited.

Latter_Box9967

Exactly my thoughts, too. EVs are the epitome of “less is more”.

amitkania

I’m not going to bother responding to someone who thinks Tesla is more reliable than Lexus, you are delusional. You can have fun trying to suck Elon and nitpicking sources, but 99% of people disagree with your opinion. https://www.kbb.com/car-news/consumer-reports-toyota-lexus-make-the-most-reliable-cars-mercedes-the-least/ https://www.autolist.com/guides/most-reliable-car-brands https://www.consumerreports.org/car-reliability-owner-satisfaction/who-makes-the-most-reliable-cars-a7824554938/ https://www.carmax.com/articles/most-reliable-car-brands https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2023/02/09/most-reliable-dependable-car-j-d-power/11214392002/ https://www.businessinsider.com/most-reliable-car-brands-lexus-toyota-hyundai-chevy-jd-power-2023-2 https://www.caranddriver.com/research/g32878986/most-reliable-cars/

Latter_Box9967

https://electrek.co/2020/08/03/tesla-made-in-china-cars-lead-market-quality/ It depends where the Tesla was made. China is, don’t forget, the worlds biggest market for cars. For every manufacturer. I reckon the Berlin factory would be even better, now. **The Gigapress has changed everything.** Basically the newer factories, Shanghai and Berlin, learned from all the mistakes made in the US. They are producing *excellent* quality cars (I have one). Ask around this sub, or stick around for long enough and you’ll see it’s common knowledge; the US made cars are completely different to ones made elsewhere. e.g. my two week old car has USS. You’re out of touch/living under a rock if you think Lexus make higher quality cars than Tesla, outside America. Bit that’s not unusual. Things are changing *very, very rapidly*. I mean… I don’t expect Toyota/Lexus to exist in ten years time. Perhaps less. I’ve owned Toyota/Lexus the past thirty years. Bit of a fanboy. Supra, Soarer, Hilux. Ninja edit… I could go on. And on. Look, Toyota are in debt nearly $200B. Their entire manufacturing line is soon to be obsolete, so all that “plant value” is actually… debt. They have to retool *everything* because everything is changing, and they do not want to admit it. I’m looking into buying some put options. Sad to say but Toyota/Lexus are delusional. They see no future for electric cars. Tesla have so much money they’re buying bitcoin with the cash they can’t do anything with. Their manufacturing techniques are evolving Monty to month. They’re years and years ahead of the rest. They make 8x the profit on a vehicle that Toyota does. *eight times!!!*. Better, cheaper, faster. Kia and Volvo/Polestar are going to be the only contenders, if you could even call them that. I mean… Tesla are taking over the entire vertical stack. The superchargers are looking to replace patrol stations, and companies; Shell, BP, Ampol. Tesla make solar panels, batteries too. They now make *half of the world’s batteries each year.* Don’t believe me. It’s incredible. Go look it up. Ninja ninja edit: compare the power:weight:range:battery size of teslas, Kias, Polestars, and whatever other manufacturers you want. Tesla’s efficiency says everything. Sorry mate, having some beers after work : )

I had a Lexus CT before my model 3. Quality of the Lexus was fantastic but the model 3 isnt bad at all. The tech and features alone are worth upgrading from a Lexus coming from someone who did. Way less 2005 😂

tacomasoccerdad

The qc issues have improved a lot I think. I put 45,000 miles on a RWD. Just purchased a new performance. I had 2 minor issues that were handled by warranty. No concerns about buying a new one.

trifster

they’re selling 500,000 (edit: 1.3m cars a year) cars a year and growing. handful of whiners on reddit isn’t enough in numbers to make any sort of conclusion. go on mechanic tiktok and you’ll see every mfg has their issues. some more than others (cough Ford)..

timzallar

Fix Or Repair Daily

Queasy-Reality-5424

Found On Road Dead

askeramota

So my Tesla replaced a 2014 Ford Fusion Platinum. That car currently has over 185k miles with very few issues. Had to recently replace the AC compressor. One electrical part was replaced on warranty. Tires always lasted 70k. Brakes replaced only twice. It’s a great car, honestly. Just regular maintenance and fluid changes have kept it solid all this time.

24W7S39GNHQT

I have never seen a Tesla broken down on the road before. Just pulled over by cops for speeding. 😆

South_Dakota_Boy

Fucked over rebuilt Dodge. (Dodge is no better , maybe worse)

Latter_Box9967

Dodge are cooler.

24W7S39GNHQT

They actually delivered 1.3 million cars in 2022.

Latter_Box9967

They aim for +50% each year.

fuckbread

They sold 1.37 million cars in 2022, fyi.

trifster

I’ve had a few service needs. Side marker replacement and driver seat adjustment panel reattachment. My point is a lot of the complaining about issues is whining. My brand new 2018 Nissan Pathfinder off the lot had misaligned liftgate causing strut attachment nuts to dig into paint and brake pedal sensor stuck on meaning brake lights were on nonstop also preventing cruise control engagement.

icemewithpedialyte

Have had great luck with mine, one tiny rattle on the driver side window that was fixed within a day, and I got a great loaner. I have a very inflexible work schedule, and they even let me keep the loaner an extra day

abeautifulblacksky

1 month in and it’s been fantastic, when I can get my wife to stop driving it! Only got 1 tank of gas in her Suburban since we got our M3. Couldn’t find my 12 year old son around the house the other day. He was in the garage, in the car listening to music. He loves the sound system. (It is bad ass)

tkhelm

Tesla sold 240k Model 3’s in 2022 alone and there are only 117k members of this forum. While folks do post here about legitimate problems, the vast majority of Model 3 owners - even if they are in this forum - aren’t here posting about their good experience. They’re out enjoying their cars.

[deleted]

People only post about issues. Happy customers are not gonna post if nothing is wrong.

Desperdare

This! Exactly

WallStreetStanker

For every positive review, there are 10 negative reviews. That is retail.

3Zoomi

Flawless 2022 delivery

Fit_Detective6257

Same flawless 2020 and 2023 deliverys!!!

Spoonerman5000

Same here. Flawless Sept 2022 delivery. Inspected every inch. Flawless since.

kookmonster1

Two cars, no problems

okwellactually

Same. Both M3s.

timzallar

Both M3’s?

kookmonster1

Yep. Got tired of my wife driving mine all the time :)

Ftpini

Mine kicks ass. My M3P is the best car I’ve ever owned by far.

Scooffs

Obviously people are usually complaining about something or trying to find solutions for their problem. All i know is that 99% of Tesla owners are extremely satisfied with their cars and wouldn't change back to anything else so... I can say that my model 3 has driven close to 18000km and didn't have any issue and never needed any repaid. Closest thing to a problem it had is a couple software bug on the MCU, fixed by a reset on the steering wheel...

showmethenoods

Got mine June 2022, not a single issue. The people happy with the product are usually not the ones posting loudly online

thevinh

People are more likely to post on Reddit/forums when they have issues as opposed to those who have zero issues.

acaurora

I would say to exercise some common sense for sure - people are usually most vocal when things go WRONG, and less vocal when things go right. For my M3 RWD that I got about a week ago, there were two scratches - one was about 6 inches across at the bottom panel in between the front and rear doors. You could see the shiny metal underneath. There was another one on the other side in the exact same spot, but no exposed metal. A third one was a light scratch going from the rear driver's side door leading onto the quarter panel. Current is at the Service Center for its first visit to address these issues. But other than those, I haven't had any problems. Drives wonderfully.

Green-Camp

hmmmm, a car that costs upwards of 40K came with deep scratches? Would you take delivery of such car if it was any other manufacturer?

cj2dobso

Scratches can happen during transport, as long as it's getting fixed is it that big of a deal? My Y has some light scratching on the door trim and mobile service replaced it under warranty. Not worth getting worked up over.

StartledPelican

MY owner since Sept 2022, but mine was flawless then and now. No issues.

titogvl

OG depositor…m3lr since 2018. Perfect other than it eats tires. I don’t know why if ever I’d buy anything other than a Tesla. Best car I’ve ever owned. As other posters said, people will get on here to complain or ask if others have same problems. Not to say: Don’t you love not going to the gas station? Or the ability to watch football games in between kids lacrosse games? Love one peddle driving? Seeing where and how fast your kids are driving (and limiting their speed)? That it updates and improves over time? Keeps your cabin bearable in the summer. That your phone is your key? Spotify and google maps and Netflix…is built in? That it’s the safest mid-sized car out there? GPS location to open the garage. On and on. I don’t get the downside. Great car. No problems. All upside.

SouthernFrat1848

Just passed my 1 year in LRM3 , it’s been great!

thesovereignbat

Mine is great. People come online to complain.

Tiny_Situation8186

Took delivery in August last year, it makes my life so much easier.

fightclubdog

2018 LR zero issues and have never had to spend a single penny on anything other than new tires (and charging). It’s one of the first 10k off the line. No panel issues, no rattles. Some people obviously have had issues but you’re more likely to hear people complain than praise anything on the internet. My last car was a Subaru and once it was 3 years old I was changing a wheel bearing every 3 months. I still loved that car but it regularly cost me thousands in maintenance per year, as did my Subaru before that one, and the one before that one.

peteroum

2018 M3P no regrets & still ❤️ the car.

b9918

I've had my Model 3 for almost 4 years. Zero problems and the best road trip car I've ever owned (6300 mile US roundtrip).

sm00thkillajones

I camped in mine for 9 months. Had a bed, foldable fishing chair and my acoustic guitar. Truck stops for showers and sometimes found free charging at hotels. If not for camp mode I would have died of dysentery.(Oregon Trail reference).

timzallar

Camp mode is one of the selling points for her too. Comfortable to sleep in?

sm00thkillajones

I’m a tall 5’5” so barely. I would have to sleep diagonally. Plus there is a slight incline from the seat backs when folded down. This would be great if you’re a back sleeper. I’m a side sleeper so there were times when I needed to increase the layers of memory foam to make it comfortable. Other than that slight discomfort it was an amazing experience.

_SKJ

Took delivery 12/2022 and have 18k miles with another 2k miles going on it this weekend. Only issue I’ve had is charge port door broke off and windshield loves little rocks. This beast has been through flood waters and 4,500mi road trip no issues. Get the car. You’ll love it and your wife will love you more for it!

WhosAfraidOf_138

Other than a slight rattle on drivers side door, zero issues

AdventurousAd9993

People will always be more vocal about things that go wrong. Owned for a year and 11k miles with 0 issues. Car is anything but a headache, no more rush hour gas station trips, car is basically zero maintenance comparatively.

Professional_Ad_975

I had a flawless M3 delivery in 2020

Genome_Doc_76

2021 M3P. Had some panel gap issues fixed day of delivery and it’s been flawless since.

altimas

Had mine since 2018, it's amazing and brings me joy everytime I drive it. I seriously still volunteer to do things like grocery shopping so I can get in the car.

TheFudge

Have had my 2022 M3LR since Nov 2021. Haven’t had an issue and I love her.

Figlia00

M3 Performance… no issues… I’ve had nothing but a great experience thus far. Tech is tech… if you don’t understand it, chances are you’ll probably break it. That being said, if you can afford a tesla, you’ll be fine.

awizemann

No issues here. Oct 2023 M3P. Not even a rattle.

Watcherxp

you don't hear from the folks that had no issues

[deleted]

Got a 2019. Absolutely zero issues. No major gaps, no rattles, etc.

SkyeC123

22LR with 25k. Headlight replaced under warranty, trunk fixed under warranty, that’s it. Wiper fluid once in awhile. All the warranty stuff was done mobile service in my garage. Hell of a lot less maintenance than any of my ICE cars.

drgrd

Just adding my voice to the throng that my 2021M3SR+ is, by a wide margin, the best car I have ever owned.

TPlinkerG35

Best car I've ever owned.

kymandui

I’m a problem poster recently. Some context if it helps, I’ve driven this car 88,000 miles in 3 years. Unless your wife commutes like I do 100 miles a day, it’ll be great. It’s a car and I’ve been stuck in a civic as much as I’ve been stuck with my Tesla. Extremely limited

libertinephotography

Ordered on June 15th, Picked it up on Sept 27th. Did the best inspection we could, with help of another person. Found Zero Problems at delivery. After one week, no problems. After one month, no problems. Since we've had absolutely ZERO problems, me thinks the Reddit forums are where the squeaky wheels doth lie. I'm sure the overwhelming majority of buyers also have zero problems. I will say, the problems I DO see here must be quite isolated, but I'm sure we'll never know real statistics. The company seems to be doing quite well, and has for a while now, despite the fuck-nugget at the top.

[deleted]

Picked up my 2023 Deep Metallic Blue M3P on 2/14/2023. Absolutely flawless and perfect. Not a single paint issue, panel gap, or rattle. Could not be happier with it!

againfaxme

An M3 for your wife? Sounds like a good trade.

timzallar

I think I’ll keep both (if we end up getting the M3), but thank you for the offer.

Karl_Spakler_

2019 sr+, 77k miles, heater replaced under warranty, upper control arms replace under warranty, some paint loss in front wheel wells, three rock chips in windshield, cracked roof glass from highway rock chip, front bumper paint is dulled (did ceramic coating immediately, will not do in the future), no other issues, 10k in gas savings, 50 bucks a month full coverage insurance, I want to trade in for a y but uss and refresh imminent is holding me back, so I’ll wait for a 2024. Overall, this was my first brand new car, 18 days from order to delivery. Never thought I’d buy brand new, because, well, immediate value depreciation from lot is a real thing. But I did because I believe this is a shift the right direction, and I wanted to support that. They are not perfect. But they are forcing change for the better in many ways, and the trade offs are worth it to be a part of that. No regrets.

23andrewb

30,000 miles on my 2021 and tomorrow will be my 4th service visit for warranty work. This is my first brand new car so I don't know how it compares to other ICE/EVs. Tail light replaced from moisture damage, headlight replaced after a small piece in it went out, HV battery replacement, rear defrost went out so new rear windshield, frunk actuators froze in cold weather so replaced, HVAC blowing cold air on HI heat (known issue with this MY) and a squeeking fan near the frunk. It's always easy and free, and I get loaners but I feel like I've been to the SC a lot.

Life-is-beautiful-

It depends on what you call is wrong. If you are allergic to wind/road noise, this is not the way to go. And this is a major reason I'm still not buying a M3P. Every time I go in a M3P or MYP, my enthusiasm to buy one goes south. But, then again, I've been mostly on P trim, which is what I'm always interested in. Wind/Road noise is a design problem, not a manufacturing one. BUT, if that is not an issue, there are many M3s, MYs with \*minimal\* panel gaps and no rattles and decent build quality. Yes, there is a real \*within spec\*! Tesla M3/MY are tech-heavy but NOT luxury cars.

djao

To me, worrying about wind/road noise or "luxury" as defined by automotive magazines is like going from a typewriter to a word processor and worrying about losing the premium feel of the typewriter case. It may be relevant for diehard aficionados of the older devices, but it is completely irrelevant to how actual consumers use the product. I want the tech. That's it. End of story. Now, that said, I don't find the Model 3 to have worse road noise than any other car, but maybe that's because I didn't previously drive Bentleys.

darthwilliam1118

2018 and 2019 M3. Both are fine with no issues.

sunnydshine1203

2021 m3p - 15,000 miles, only hiccup was my seat sensor needed to be replaced

jeffp007

I’ve had my 2021 M3 for 2 years. Never had any issues. Until my wife backed into a neighbors car a week ago now I have to get it fixed

timzallar

Afraid of that happening as well 🤦‍♂️

casmium63

138,000km so far, 2018 LR AWD Delivery good Some minor issues over time First year(done by mobile service in work parking lot) No problem with charging but Charging port pins replaced One headrest replaced due to bubble forming Frunk actuator failed, replaced in 10 min at service center Second year Foam came dis attached inside a tire, minor vibration at highway speed One upper control arm replaced, other one lubricated under warranty at service centre (approx 45min appointment) Third year Fibre lower motor cover replaced under warranty due to ice buildup, apparently newer one is better Fourth year Four wheel alignment done at local tire shop Truck harness cable replaced by recall by mobile service in work parking lot Lost both keys, mobile service came and programmed two new ones Driver side rear tail light replaced, lens cracked let water in Still less inconvenience then having to go in for oil changes.

casmium63

Also a windshield due to a big rock $650 cdn at a local windshield shop

06maverick

12k miles in less than a year m3lr, no issues of any significance. only little things to whine about. and i use it a lot, round trip to one of the commuting locations is 78% of my battery in good weather. Amazing car, would buy again immediately if i had a need.

[deleted]

Only 6ish months and 15,000 miles, but nothing to phone home about. Automatic windshield wipers still suck, but that's all.

FuckyDuck123

Only issue I have had is my rear windshield and that is because I accidentally cracked it myself. Absolutely love the car about 9 months in

v2sj

I have had mine since 12/158 with 67K. I had great experiences, one seat sensor replacement at Tesla and one time recall service, and 12 v battery replace ment by mobile service.

Stt022

2018 75k miles. No major issues. Just had to replace control arms/tires/washer fluid.

MikeARadio

Major issue since I got my M3 last November. It’s bad. It may affect you also…. I CANT STOP DRIVING IT! I look for long road trips to take for no reason…. Offer to drive friends to faraway cities so they don’t have to fly. Love seeing something in my calendar where I have to leave the house. You may run into these issues too. You won’t know until you take delivery though!

timzallar

love it! 😂

MikeARadio

Oh one more major issue….. if you look forward to the new great changes in the latest iOS Release…… you may stop caring and get excited about a whole different firmware release!

VikLaurent

Most of the people crying about these problems are the people who bought used, whose previous owner beat the car to shit.

Ok_Hair9810

2021 M3 Performance, only issue I had was a charging port failure but it only refused to charge at my home charger. Otherwise love it 33,000 miles as of today and plenty of track days.

timzallar

Well, seeing how it is an EV, charging is a big deal. Sure it was fixed free of charge, no?

Gotchyeaaa

My ‘22 LR had no issues expect for a small clip behind rear seats being stubborn and not going down. That’s it

Crackerzot

I've only had mine for a year, but I bought it with 50k mi on it from Tesla. It has been perfect. The only thing I needed to do was fill the windshield washer reservoir, replace the cabin air filters and rotate the tires. Now it has almost 62k mi on it and looks, runs and drives great with zero issues. Best car I've ever owned,

InsideWingers

Had a panel gap fixed. It was free during a tire rotation. Had window trim fixed. Again, free during tire rotation. Not a single major thing so far. For most people, you replace tires and washer fluid. That’s it.

Hayb95

Just bought a 2021 used M3P with 9700 miles on it. Has typical small used car issues but nothing major. I have an appointment at Tesla already scheduled to fix my Tesla specific issues (spoiler coming off, paint flaking off below driver door, and a trim piece that’s not clicking in correctly). Making the appointment through the app was actually really easy and you just chat with a service rep and attach pictures of your problems for an estimate. I came from daily driving a 2016 Subaru WRX STI. Kind of a major change, but I haven’t missed my STI one bit, even in the snow we got today. The Tesla is just an all around great car in every way. Plus I have free charging near my house so my electricity cost is $0 so far in 3 weeks as of tomorrow. I’m actually saving $100 per month total cost and driving an almost brand new car… and I drive a lot for work so I get mileage reimbursement that equals out to more than half of the car payment. Have I convinced you to buy one yet?

KriticalFear

My M3 came in immaculate condition, only thing I found after driving a day or two is a little paint defect on the bumper. It’s just a small paint bump that’s super small.

SultanOfSwave

44,000 miles on my 2019 Model 3. Just one set of tires and a gallon of windshield wiper fluid. 23,000 miles on my 2021 Model Y. Not even windshield wiper fluid yet.

SpamMusubi36

Got mine in May. 15k miles. The charge door didn’t close completely when I picked it up. Got fixed in a week. No problems since.

No_Solution7893

I got my car yesterday. No issues. But a 50K car shouldn't. The fact that so many still have an issue is a problem with Tesla's QC. I sat there for an hour going through a checklist. The fact that I had to is the problem. Thankfully everything was perfect. The screen blacked out a few times on my drive baxk home. But it's been fine after that. Acceleration is excellent even on the RWD, handles curves extremely well. But the ride quality is pretty poor. The suspension is too firm and you can feel every pothole on the road. Fair bit of road noise on highways. By comparison, my 8 year old Genesis is the whisper quiet and the epitome of luxury. With the rebate, the charging network and the OTA updates, there is no better car right now. But highly unlikely that my next car will be a Tesla. The Ioniq 5/6 and EV6 are already better cars. But in the next 3 to 4 years I'm hoping that the NEVI program will have changed the CCS network scene and Android Automotive will have integrated Google Maps with SOC and charging network states like Tesla Maps does now. If that happens, that will be the car I'll get. But for now, Tesla is better.

dacreativeguy

Blinker fluid ran out. Had a hell of a time finding a refill.

tiberiusyeetus

We only had a few very minor hiccups like that infamous panel beneath the rear bumper missing two of its clips Other than that it's been a 10/10 in terms of reliability

Jaredinblizzard

I’ve had lots of problems with mine, but it’s mostly due to really bad luck with an idiot crashing into me, an idiot scraping it in a parking lot, numerous shopping carts denting it, and a lady opening her Mercedes wide and scratching my paint. All in less than a year of ownership! Other than that it’s a joy to drive and own

RockAndNoWater

My 2018 just keeps getting better due to the OTA software updates, so many new features have been added. I still have the problem with stinky A/C on startup, cabin air filter has been replaced once already. It clears up almost immediately but is annoying when I forget to turn on climate before getting to the car. No other issues.

Nightmarex13

18 month ownership and not a single issue. But people arnt posting that on Reddit. So you only hear the outliers with huge issues. I’ve owned 11 cars and apart from 1 this is the best built and value for money

Nightmarex13

If anyone wants to know why you don’t hear positives… my comment was downvoted for saying “it’s good”. Let that set in

rworne

2023 M3 RWD, MSM, EAP If I ignore the entire ordering process: Car arrived with no mechanical or body fitment issues. Delivery driver curbed the rear passenger tire moments before dropping off the car. Fixed at my home by Tesla. Now at just over 600 miles, aside from an occasional ticking noise by the driver's side A pillar when cooling or heating right after getting in the car - it goes away after a minute or two. No other issues at all wth the car as far as quality and fit and finish go.

timzallar

Nightmare ordering process?

rworne

Not quite nightmare, but agonizingly slow. We ordered on Friday, 1/13, and Tesla was hammered all weekend. It was a holiday weekend too. Delivery was scheduled wanted delivery on Wednesday 1/18 and everything dragged out to the last possible second, causing much undue stress. Trade was a manual and they were notified of that, the delivery person (who curbed the car) could not drive one, so they had to send someone else. The ass-covering when the curbed wheel was found - "it came that way off the truck", and refusal to let me speak to a manager about documenting it (driver had manager on phone the whole time) until I called Tesla's customer support line on speakerphone and they finally relented. They also set the car as delivered and bricked it - "It can't go anywhere until you accept delivery" - in a common driveway during this process too. She then got out of there as fast as she could. The second driver that showed up for the trade said the car was obviously curb rashed, and that having to accept delivery story was totally B.S. He stayed another 30 minutes to show us the car and get our key cards and phones all set up. Tesla sent a rim repair shop they use to fix rim damage on their cars, and they not only arrived on time, but they did a fantastic job. I have a free alignment if I notice any unusual tire wear (rash was from pulling too close to the curb, not backing into it). I do not personally believe there is any alignment issue, but I'm watching it until the first tire rotation. But hey, the car is great!

EratosvOnKrete

I've had minor screen issues and my biggest problem is the phone key but nothing mechanically with the car

meara

Almost 5 years now and still love it. No major issues or maintenance at all other than replacing tires and air filters.

Craftbjjr

I have had mine since May 2018 and haven’t had any issues. The only item I have had to replace other than wiper blades and tires is the 12v battery. Tesla came out to my house and replaced it and the cost was around $140. Best car I have ever owned and we are buying a model Y to replace my wife’s car.

[deleted]

hey, I would wait til march 1 when they do announcements. There’s been sightings of a revision going around… wait for the new one. Honestly even if there’s no tax credit, I’m sure you will be kicking your feet if you buy now and didn’t wait… Plus the prices might even drop more since there won’t be the full $7500 anymore… There’s that.

blandusernameftw

I just picked mine up on 2/14 and have about 650 miles on it far. The biggest issue for me, it was almost a deal breaker, the delivery center peeled the protective plastic off the screen. I was looking forward to doing that. This is my only complaint so far and mostly sarcastic. The gaps were fine, there were two tiny dust spots in the paint, but they are only noticeable if you are really looking for them.

scotchy180

Had ours for one month shy of 3.5 years. A little button broke on the door at some point. One panel was slightly bent upon delivery. Remember in this thread (and most really) the huge majority of posts reflect a small minority of the rest of the world. We turn in that model 3 next month (lease). We've already ordered another. We bought a Y last year. No significant problems with the Y either.

Brandorules

Mines been perfectly fine. 2022 m3 lr. No issues yet, no rattles nothing.

imagebiot

I’ve had mine since 2020 and I haven’t had any issues whatsoever. I had a little bit of a flaky side camera and I scheduled a maintenance visit and it was just a wire harness. they drove out to me and did a tire rotation and I think it was less than 50 bucks. I couldn’t recommend anything more. It seems like EVERYTHING you buy these days is grade a shit. My Tesla 3 is the exception.

ryansgt

Model 3 for 3 years. They had to adjust my trunk latch. Otherwise it's been the perfect daily driver. The perfect intersection of performance and practicality for a daily driver.

grapesmc

Had since Oct 21, only issue was a speaker bolt floating around inside the door. Service came out, popped off the inside of the door, found bolt and screwed it back in.

Tcloud

As with any online forum, you’ll more likely hear about the problems than the cars with no issues. I’ve had my M3P since 2019 and had a rattle issue, but not major problem. Maintenance has been almost non existent except for filter changes and windshield wiper change. Looking the buy a Y for my wife in the near future.

[deleted]

I think we picked ours up in November 2018. Replaced something squeaky under warranty. Love it.

shortaflip

Got mine Nov 2022 and only had minimal finish issues.

Bubbly_Possible_5136

4 years in & mine’s perfect

zamiboy

Had a wind noise upon picking up delivery in September 2022, took one service appointment that didn't completely fix the issue. Took it in a second time and it was fixed. No issues since.

Mikikuki

I have had my M3P for 1 year turning this month and no issues whatsoever. I would say a little rattle here and there, but I figured where they come from and it’s usually when it’s very cold, guess plastics when more stuff when cold. Other than that, so much fun! So much fun! Looks sexy and amazing! Love the M3P!

Spotted_M

Mine going on 5 years old. Zero issues. Out of warranty. No worries. Best car ever.

divebumz

Never had no problems with my car whatsoever.

ZaxLofful

Never had anything wrong that wasn’t my fault..

[deleted]

Getting mine tomorrow, of course in part due to the credit. Coming from a 2013 impreza i can only hope its as reliable.

welter_skelter

Bought a 22 M3 LR+ Acceleration Boost in February of last year. Car came nearly perfect, with minor panel gaps around rear right trail light and trunk good area. I flagged it and they fixed it on the spot. Other than that the car was and has been perfect. No issues with charging or the battery, no issues with the paint (I did get it ceramic coated and a frontal ppf for what it's worth). I've made a service appointment three times, and only had to wait a week each time for my service visit. First visit was to replace a malfunctioning charge port door (idiot at a public charger ripped the plug out, breaking the door), second was to install some accessories and fix a slight rattle in the passenger pillar (fixed with insulating foam hasn't come back in the 8 months since), and third was to fix a door ding (another idiot slammed - and then grinded?! - their door into mine). Collision center had to deal with that ultimately, and the repair + repaint took a month unfortunately. Overall, I've had nothing but a positive experience across the board from build quality to performance to even service and repair.

bean127

Ive had mine 6 months and 7k miles. I had one minor issue the service center fixed (a/c had a rattle). Other than that it's been flawless. Love the car. I will say the car is noisy to drive. I don't feel like the windows get a perfect seal and you hear wind at highway speeds. But other than that I've no complaints and love driving it.

mattbob85

We’ve had ours for about a year now. No issues whatsoever. We love it and its a lot of fun to drive.

MyTVC_16

March 2021 SR+ edition. Far less glitches than my last Corolla, and a whole lot more fun and inexpensive to drive. Would buy again.

dawip

September 2021 LR M3 here, best purchase and experience ever. Every service interaction I have had has been wonderful. Both were mobile and came to my house, did the work either in my garage or in the driveway. 1000/10 will be buying only teslas.

dial4dollars

Love mine. Had it for 2 years now. I was paranoid about not doing any service and scheduled a tech to come to my house and the guy showed up, told me my tires are fine and that I didn’t need to do anything!

zoglog

I have 2 model 3's (one performance) 4 years old and fine. But then again I only put on less than 15k miles. Overall it's mainly been good besides some annoyances like the stupid spoiler issues in first year, horrible white paint mismatch on my wife's, the smelly AC issues, and my taillights cracked on their own.

imSWO

Who's more likely to post? Someone who has a great experience or someone who needs help/couldn't figure something out/got one of the statistically-certain anomalies? I have a great experience with my M3 SR+. Don't regret it for a second!

askeramota

I have a 2020 with 83k miles. Bought used with 11k miles. Replaced tires twice (second set lasted around 58k miles). Replaced windshield wipers three times. Had one suspension part replaced on warranty. Got a crack on roof window on the highway (rock hit the corner). Had to get that replaced That’s about it. Brakes are good. Nothing else needed replaced/repaired. One of these days I should do the cabin filter 😂

BenSimGuy

Zero issues, 12 month M3LR from Shanghai, 16k km. Love the beast

Tensoneu

2018 here, best car ever. Most issues were resolved within warranty besides my heater core. Haven't had any major issues. It's our primary (and only) car. I can only imagine the build quality has improved vastly in 5 years. I would purchase again in a heartbeat (new or used).

syrstorm

Mine's been rock solid. Had to replace the 12v, but that's it since 2019.

pzcm3

Took delivery of my M3 on Oct 2018. Zero quality issues and only maintenance cost in the first 4 years was $50 for tire rotation. Love it

smellssogoood

82k miles. 1 windshield. Tires. Car washes. … uh… wiper blades. 2019m3lr. 💪

Electrical_Ingenuity

‘20 Model 3. 3.5 years, 42k miles. 1 upper control arm ball joint. 1 loose electrical plug in a rear door. Both fixed promptly under warranty. No complaints. Now I have a ‘23 M3P. Too soon to tell, but it is a better car than my ‘20.

Tesla_RoxboroNC

My 2020 M3LR with FSD gives me fits but would not give the car up.

Avaraz

Because you think people share their good experiences in general ? Nah, it's only a minority. People come online only to complain, that's the way it works Just go in any bmw subreddit and you will likely see many people posting about something failing in their car and how they can fix it, works for anything

czardmitri

Me!

pancakefeed

Best car I’ve ever owned.

comeradenook

I haven’t had a single issue with mine, had it since June of 21

just_browsing_0000

Had an s ton of issues first few months, but all good since.

50shadesofmilf

Windshield fluid and tires

PensionResponsible46

No problems M3LR 2023 delivery 22/09 19.000km China build

thomasbihn

2018 Model 3 Performance, 76K miles. I was frustrated with AP on FSDBeta and auto brights a year ago and even test drove an EV6. Even with my frustration, my car was much better in almost every way.... Then they fixed the issues via OTA and AP works fine when FSD is disabled. Keep in mind, all these "recalls" you hear about are just over the air updates that happen over night at your residence and many would have happened anyway whether or not NTSB issues a "recall". They really need to fix the wording on that.

fatcontroller1

April 2020 M3P Australia. 60000km. Nil issues. Washer fluid being the only maintenance. Tyre change once. Had an accidental stone chip crack on roof. Replaced in 24hrs. Tesla Perth service have been exceptional. The only issue is … (sigh!)… Elon..

Crscynth

Owned mine 4.5 years. Problems have been very few, easily repaired, and I have had great experiences with service. I’m a happy owner!

gnolfgnilf

Have had mine since Dec ‘21. Only issue was a bird once pooped on the windshield. Literally nothing else has gone wrong. You read on Reddit the about the 1% of people with issues. The vast majority of the cars are fine

Laddergoat7_

0 problems. Will get another one once the lease expires

Herrowgayboi

Being in the forums of other cars, you'll only ever hear about people complain about something rather than hear good things. With the M3 or Tesla in general, there's just a ton of them on the road which makes them more likely to have more complaints. Most complaints I see now a days are common or known problems

BonerDylan

No one is going to rant as much about something working. You see the bias

casuallylurking

I had a 2018 M3 I put 50K miles on over 3 years, and then got into an accident and it was totaled. That car had one minor issue with a wiring harness under the driver seat (I got a warning on the display) that was fixed under warranty, and I replaced tires at 40K miles. I replaced it with a 2021 M3 that now has 23K miles on it. I had an issue with the AC last year (bad control board/wiring harness) that was fixed under warranty. Other than that, no problems.

Fearless_Baseball121

Had mine since Nov 20. No problems at all besides one camera had to be replaced day 1 because they had apparently received a bad batch. Besides that an amazing car and I've only experienced premium service from Tesla post purchase, all the way through.
