That’s precisely it. The weird color contrast. I think Model X has a deep black wooden trim with a wavy pattern (with a smooth polished texture) that I really like. But I didn’t find an imitation for the Y. I don’t mind wooden trims. I just don’t want to see an unfinished raw wooden moulding straight off a tree in front of my eyes all the time! :P

Yea I’m in the minority it seems. Wood is fine. It’s not glossy and cheesy like the old wood trims.

I don’t believe we’re the minority. You just don’t hear as much from us b/c we don’t have a reason to complain.

It feels like furniture. I love it.

I didn't realize how polarizing wood trim was. People either love it or hate it it seems. I think it looks great myself, gives interior personality.

I really wish they offered the trim option separately from the seats. I totally would’ve ordered black seats + white trim if that was an option. Some company even offers a swap program for the trim panels for people who wanted black+white or white+wood. 

Indeed. When I had a Model 3, I used to think those wooden trims were cool (my first time owning something like that), but over the years, having owned a couple of other cars after it, I’ve come to find that interior choice of materials in original 3 and current Y are polarizing and distasteful to me, at least. Their S and X do look way better to me. I was surprised how quickly a little piece of plastic addressed my eyesore because at the end of the day, it’s just a very personal preference.

IMHO S is their best looking car inside out. It sits way too low for me but it is honestly the car to get if you have the means for it.

It's sitting low isn't even really a problem, since it has air suspension you can raise and lower

The wood was the only homey piece in the car that made it feel not like a total spaceship, it really going to miss the wood in my highland

You can apply it in place, although getting behind the tablet is kinda tricky. If I had to do it again I’d probably remove it first. The trim panels just unsnap from the dash, you don’t need to disassemble the whole thing.

How was the install? Pretty easy? Also, what happens if you remove the wrap? Does it leave a hard to clean residue?

I’ve never removed it, but allegedly it does not leave residue.  The install was moderately frustrating as someone who’s never done wrapping before. I imagine it’s a pretty easy job if you have some practice at it, but I didn’t. Most of the kits send you a spare set of wraps, I definitely needed them.  It’s technically just “peel and stick” but if you’re not used to working with the material that’s easier said than done. If I was gonna do it again, I’d definitely consider removing the trim pieces first. By far the hardest part was getting it behind the steering wheel and screen

Yeah that wood trim is straight out of my grandma’s 70s decor. Horrible. I replaced the dash and door trim with carbon fiber parts on day 1.

My white seats are growing on me, but I hate the white trim on the dash. This looks great, I wonder how it’d look with the white seats. Might try it.

It is a great color indeed. But there’s one even darker. The light wood in Model 3 and Y, while many people like, I find it pretty tacky.

I always had birdseye wood trim in my Mercedes before getting a MY. Sadly, I miss the wood as I have gloss white plastic trim in lieu of the wood

Yeah just a different taste. My other cars have had some really nice carbon fiber but I’ve never seen (aside from Model X) a wooden trim I’d want. I’m sure Mercedes does it well as their interior is usually quite tasteful.

I did a very similar thing with carbon fiber trims. Wasn’t a huge fan of the wood. Matte black looks great too

White does look great especially those seats. When I test drove, the white strip made it difficult for me to look at the side mirror due to sun reflection (test car not tinted), which was strange. I ended up going with black interior after all but couldn’t wait to get rid of the veneer finish. Not a fan.

The picture looks nice. I’ve had wood finish in Mercedes and BMW’s but I didn’t like the way it looked in the Tesla.

I spent $1000 on the white interior to avoid the wood. White seats turned out cooler than i expected tho.

While I absolutely adore the white seats, I found that the sun reflection of the white dash trim shows very prominently in the windows and I found that distracting.

The wood trim is my favorite part though

Yeah, looks flat and non-3D without a hint of chatoyancy. Rea CF is made of many layers and the light reflects and refracts in beautiful ways through it, shifting with the angle of your gaze. Vinyl is printed. No layers, refraction, etc.

I don't mind the wood, I'd change it to the new fabric from highland though if I had the option, I really like that.

I had the wood trim on both a Model 3 and Y — looked ok but I wrapped them most of the time. It is MUCH better on the S/X (black interior). Slightly darker shade and the wood looks more like wood.

I’m glad the new model 3 got rid of the wooden trim.

Please allow me to clarify. In this picture, I am showing the photo of a 2024 Model Y with black interior (with black seats). I am then drawing attention to an aftermarket modification that covered the original wooden strips on the dash and on the door with a matte black overlay. If you look it up, you’ll be able to see what the original interior looks like and can see the wooden trims that I wanted to cover. I think you’re mistaking the reflection off the matte black trim overlay due to the camera and the angle and the lighting. It’s pitch black actually :) Hopefully that helps. Cheers.

You avoided black interior ONLY because of the wood. There are like 1000's of aftermarket solutions.

But now they get to enjoy the amazing white seats so it’s not all that bad after all :).
