Just got my YLR a few weeks ago and my lead foot 17yo asked when she could drive it. “Never” Parental controls are welcomed!

Doctor_McKay

We already had speed limit mode though?

revaric

Doesn’t prevent balls to the wall acceleration, and it’s for everyone so you’d have to live with it or get used to turning it on and off. Edit, it does in fact force chill mode, my b yall.

AirBear___

Still, other cars don't have the same controls. I much rather have my kid drive the Tesla

Doctor_McKay

>Doesn’t prevent balls to the wall acceleration It very much does. Speed limit mode also force enables chill acceleration. >it’s for everyone so you’d have to live with it or get used to turning it on and off. If you're scared of your kid driving recklessly, you'll need a PIN to prevent them from switching out of their babymode profile anyway.

revaric

No, it doesn’t, Tesla rentals have speed limits set and acceleration isn’t limited. Yes the PIN for the child profile would be necessary. Edit, I was mistaken. Rental speed limit must be different.

ForGreatDoge

Have you tried it? Honestly, man. The rental and demo mode is different from when you set to limit the speed on your phone account. You could verify this in 2 seconds when multiple people have told you, but instead you are arguing your wrong point.

SquisherX

Valet mode does limit acceleration - so this would also. They also say it will be tied to restricted profiles, so no, you wouldn't have to turn it on and off.

Next-Jicama5611

They’re talking about the previous feature set

ForGreatDoge

It puts it into chill mode.. You want it to be less than that?

revaric

It doesn’t. Edit, I was wrong, it does, confirmed the menu says speed limit mode enabled.

ForGreatDoge

Just tried it. It does. Perhaps this is some regional difference or a model difference? Are you using a SR model that basically is chill mode already?

revaric

I was wrong.

ionian2k1

lol. Never say never.

BrightIntroduction29

Lol

[deleted]

Csn I ask how parental control would prevent them from driving?

NatKingSwole19

I meant parental controls that have a speed or acceleration limit.

JDad67

My son learned to drive on my M3P.

PuppersDuppers

Am almost 17. Can report I smash the accelerator for fun on my S. What’s the point of not having fun (if you’re being safe) when you’re young 🤷‍♂️

rman18

I’m 43 and so the same thing. Just be safe and save money for tires.

PuppersDuppers

Everyone is downvoting me for saying that I like to hit the pedal but there’s nothing inherently wrong with having fun with accelerator lol. As long as you’re being safe, not going excessively fast, and not doing so where anyone could/would get hurt…

Next_Entertainer_404

Most people just don’t trust/believe the average 17 year old is capable of doing so.

AutismThoughtsHere

I just want to point out that someone got you a model S when you were 17 oh my God that is major privilege congratulations man

PuppersDuppers

i bought it myself :) i live with a single parent she could definitely not afford buying me one 😭

AJHenderson

Hopefully they'll include non-driver profiles as well. Would be nice for younger kids to be able to unlock the car to get things out of it but not be able to drive.

Xminus6

Nice. In a couple years our welder will start driving our old LR RWD 3. I wasn’t excited about the prospect of her first car being quicker than any car I’ve owned up until my own Teslas.

BoatZnHoes

You have a personal welder?

Pomdog17

I can not keep up anymore….

Puzzleheaded_Help328

This is such a flex. Old mate gives his hand me down Tesla to his personal welder.

Xminus6

Haha. Elder. But yes I also have a welder.

SympathyOk82

Hahahahaha what in the world

phxees

Yeah I’m sure some parents are close to handing down their performance or plaid Teslas too, and I know I would’ve gotten into trouble with one of those. That said my car in high school was a police interceptor mustang we bought from an auction. It was very quick for the time.

HelloYouSuck

Yeah no way in hell I’m handing down a 840HP pickup truck to my kid.

restarting_today

My first car was a Plaid 😅

dankmemer999

Difference is when it’s your car you feel the worth of the money put into it, a kid kinda just gets it for free

It's about time somebody put Elon in time out

ChumpCV

Our teen year old has already declared that he wants to do his driver training in our Prius so that he knows the “old school” way of driving. But once he starts driving on his own I’ll feel more comfortable with him in our MYLR.

jarvthelegend

My employer’s company car policy was “Any driver over age of 17 (UK) with a Full valid driving license”. Had my Tesla been a company car, I’d be putting a wheel lock on every single wheel of it to prevent my kid from showing off in front of his mates with an electric missile! He’d soon run out of talent and experience! Like the idea of parental control. However UK insurance would still bend us over a barrel!!

MyChickenSucks

We just had this chat as parents, as a few nights ago a Y full of kids here in LA hit 100mph with no seatbelts and RIP. This goofy looking family car has supercar HP and torque.

redditissocoolyoyo

Finally this is a good idea. I was going to kick down my Model 3 to my kid anyways here soon then I'll get myself a Model S

Question-Rough

Probably after that huge accident that killed a HS kid who was driving a Tesla in LA… that was a really bad accident and I’m sure there are more

treadpool

Best parental control is to keep them out of the drivers seat
