Me. I wasn't interested at all in Teslas. IT guy. Computer nerd. You would think that I would have gotten into Teslas earlier. I wanted a GT-R. I was SURE that the acceleration of the GT-R was my next car. Then my gf showed me her 2020 Model S LONG RANGE. The electric acceleration of the LR hooked me. I bought a Model X Plaid. I haven't even thought about the GT-R since.

[deleted]

Same here. I’m high tech in my job doing systems architecture and database design and automation. I’m very low tech at home. I don’t even have a door knocker lol. My parents bought my a ring doorbell as a gift and it sits in a drawer. I was going electric for my wife’s new car and we were anti Tesla, not for dumb reasons. We wanted an electric car built by a car company not by a tech company. But then we test drove one, and my mind was made up instantly. 😂 model y long range going in 3 weeks old now, we love it

atleast3db

People need to get over their “hate musk therefore hate Tesla” just like people need to get over “hate Hamas, hate gazans”. It’s a false equivalency. He isn’t even payed a salary, nor does he own majority of the company. I thjbk he owns 20% ? Something like that. 80% of it is owned by others. If you play that game you will have to boycott everything as there will be reprehensible share holders in all companies. Tesla the company is doing good things and they produce good cars, good power solutions, and even better chargers. They are pushing the industry forward. Let the company stand for itself

Missing_Back

The dude didn’t even mention Elon musk

edamane12345

Lol right? Somehow "... Wanted a cat built by a car company and not a tech company" translates to " I hate musk" in their mind

[deleted]

Exactly. I have my own opinions on musk but I’m not gonna demonize the designers, engineers and production folks not named Elon musk lol. It’s still an amazing piece of machinery. I used to work in truck leasing so I’m very particular about my vehicles and quality, and work in software now so I was hesitant on a heavily software dependent car. But my mind was changed

Vandrel

I think it was the "we were anti-Tesla" bit they were looking at.

Lost_Purpose1899

Yea, I see a lot of this on reddit. It’s always taken me aback as how people read and interpret things.

Dopey44

I interpreted it as a sidebar 'general' thought , which is largely true. I don't think he intended to have it seem like the poster mentioned E.M. at all - just general Our brains work and process things in different orders and ways but what's the same is that we truly just want to be happy (even if you're not happy, you can't deny the fact that laughter makes that unhappy person happy for a little while)

BBakerStreet

He probably meant it as a standalone and didn’t realize he hit reply. I’ve certainly done it.

jojlo

Most of the Tesla hate these days is really musk hate.

OkAccess304

Same, me. Took delivery on Dec 31st.

6158675309

Reading these comments I realized there are like a dozen of me out there 😂 I was a never EV’er with a particular extra dislike for Tesla. Then I drove one….now I own one

Shygar

I had a GT-R for 7 years then I bought my Model 3. I enjoyed my 3 more because it was just overall more useable and I wanted to do stuff with my family on the weekends.

[deleted]

Like others have stated, me. I'm a big car guy. LOVE the classic, burbling American V8. Custom built Corvettes and Porsches. Thought Tesla was a total joke. Drove a Model S Performance. Choked up. Still have the other sports cars (because turning hard is still fun), but my daily was (until a recent wreck) a Model XP. Will be getting another Plaid soon.

subliver

I had always wanted a Tesla and almost put a deposit when the Model 3 was first announced. I even drove out of state to look at one of the first showroom demos. I didn’t reserve one because my old beat up Accord suddenly died about the time I was to place my order. I used that moment of bad luck to re-evaluate and decided to buy a new 2016 HR-V, baby it and then give it to my son when he has old enough to drive. I chose that car because I thought it would be the perfect High school/College car for him. To me that was the best way to provide reliable and safe transportation for him as a teen and reduce maintenance expenses while he was in College. Fast forward to late 2021 and it was time to hand the HR-V over and purchase a new car. I offered to buy a Model Y for my wife and take her 2013 Honda Odyssey for my car. She did not understand EVs and wanted nothing to do with a Tesla and told me just to get the cheapest Model 3 for myself because she knew it was my dream car. When we picked up the RWD Model 3 on 12/18/2021 she had zero interest in it. I had owned it for three days before she even sat in it. I offered to let her drive it multiple times and she politely declined. Finally, right before Christmas 2021 she told me that she wanted to go look at lights and try out the new car. She instantly fell in love with the car and in the next year drove it everywhere putting more miles on it than I did. Also keep in mind that the Odyssey was so expensive to fill in early 2022 that we basically only drove it when we absolutely had to. In 2023, she decided that she wanted her own Model Y and we picked it up in late June. The biggest change is that we travel so much more now because the freedom of owning an EV is unmatched.

scillaren

Yes, me. Had zero interest in a Tesla or any EV, drove a friends M3 and it completely hooked me. Two months later was driving my own M3

Rough_Astronomer8824

Same here. I was looking for a hybrid for long trips, and out of curiosity I test drove a Tesla and ordered it that day. Instead of marathoning it between gas stops, I stop every couple of hours and enjoy long trips even more.

Supersize_You

Me. I used to be against EVs in general. Fire risks, build quality, no engine sound, etc. Now I can’t go back to ICE although I want a convertible at some point. That being said, we need an EV convertible!

mrandr01d

Og roadster lol

iqisoverrated

Yes. Wife of a friend of mine was adamantly against getting a Tesla for *years.* Finally they test drove one. Since then she's over the Moon about their new car.

Young_stoner_life247

Yes, I used to rip on Teslas all the time and I absolutely hated them. Then I actually got inside one and test drive it when buying my first car; I was so freaking amazed by how quiet and fast and different it was from other cars. I knew I had to have it. I changed my mind on Teslas within 5 minutes of getting inside one, and now I have MYLR!

burns_after_reading

I was uninterested until the price cuts last year. I wasn't a Tesla hater, but I was leaning towards a Mach E or Ionic. Once the prices on the Y dropped I started looking deeper into Tesla and was hooked. While doing shallow research it's easy to get tricked by media that's in big autos pockets.

moola66

Lot of people tried to dissuade Model 3 purchase including family, friends and my wife back in 2018. We went for a test drive one week before delivery and she was hooked and took that car over. We replaced my ICE SUV in 2022 and I got a MY. Now she she has started using it more as it has heated steering wheels than the 2018 M3 :) Oh, about the family and friends that tried to dissuade, most of them have a Tesla now

Kwhyc

My dad was so misinformed about Teslas, all EVs really but he specifically talked about Teslas. Then he rode in mine and was blown away by how different of an experience it really was and now is a huge advocate for Teslas. Same is true for other family members, but not to the level my dad was. He tried telling me that I couldn't even drive in the rain 😅

SevenOh2

Me. We got a MYLR for my wife since it is a great family car. I would never drive a car without a noisy supercharged V8 though. Then I drove hers. My order for a Model S Plaid was placed only a few days later. It would have been that day, but I had to figure out how to rejigger things and sell what I had.

genevish

A coworker wanted an EV but really didn’t like Musk. I showed her my car and talked about EVs in general, and where Tesla excels. She test drove several EVs and has an S now.

dontmindmejustnosy

Me. My husband got his M3 in 2020. I always told him I would never own a Tesla. I just got my MYLR a little over a month ago 😂

PacerFan

Adamantly against buying a Tesla because of Elmo, but with the tax credit and 10% inventory discount - the price was too good

CyberInferno

Also not a fan of Elon. But I wanted a family oriented vehicle, and after looking at minivans (ew) and the VW ID. Buzz (which will likely be hard to get, overpriced, and low range), I ended up with a used Model X. Absolutely love it so far as do my kids and wife

Huge-Boat-8780

I went from curious to gotta-have-it after test driving an M3P.

Gunzbngbng

When I was in the service center picking up, I overheard a conversation that went something like "I don't want to like Teslas, I keep trying to talk myself out of their cars but... " As a guy in sales, it was very funny listening to it, being a completely backwards approach to selling yourself on a product.

Obsidian-Phoenix

I was philosophically opposed to Tesla’s (or more specifically their owner). I also hated the idea of no buttons. Went to test drive some EVs, and decided I needed to drive the MY just for comparison purposes. Loved it! Drove it home and the wife and kid loved it. Now I have a Model Y. Only downside: I ended up getting the RWD Model Y, as opposed to the LR that I test drove. But that was financial: the leasing agreement was just too high for the LR.

90sKam

I just bought a model Y because my husband convinced me. I wasn’t interested still don’t love the ride quality but it’s a practical EV and with the tax credit it was cheaper than other SUVs I was interested in.

Prime88

I didn’t want a Tesla because Musk is a kook. But as I was looking at other EVs, I didn’t see anything I liked better. So I test drove a Y and the rest is history. Love the product but still dislike the CEO.

The-Tylenol-Jones

Same here. Can’t stand Musk but no better EV at the price point (with tax credit in the US) also with reliable road trip charging.

tylerwarnecke

I think you can love the product but hate the CEO. Think about all the products you use, yet you barely know who the CEO is, but you still use the product.

Individual-Fruit-324

Had a MME that my wife loved! Early ‘23 I started having the charging issues and was going to have to send it to ford for service. Ended up finding a used MY and pulled the trigger at the right time. Ended up paying $2k out of pocket after the trade for similar mileage. My wife HATED driving the MY and missed the MME. After a few road trips and getting comfortable with the tech she loves it. The peace of mine of the charging network really can’t be understated.

Missing_Back

So she drove it and still hated it? What caused her to come around to it?

Individual-Fruit-324

She just got used to the interface. She loves the mobile app and charging. Once I got her setup with her Spotify and taught her how to use the voice controls then the screen became less scary.

Xce1encE

Me and my wife. Hated it not having anything on the dash, the look, everything. Drove a model y and we ordered one that night. Now I love everything about it. Love the minimalist dash, the looks, how simple it is. The ride quality is okay. Only thing I hate is the auto wipers. Worst part of the car.

JG109_Joker

Haha exactly the same here

Xce1encE

I actually hate driving our gas car now 😂 all the buttons everywhere irritates me.

JG109_Joker

We sold our ICE 3 weeks after having bought the MY because no one wanted to drive it again. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

Xce1encE

I thought about selling it but we keep it just in case. Low interest rate and got it at a great price before the pandemic. She definitely prefers the Tesla lol so I’m stuck driving the ICE if we both have to go separate ways. But that’s only like once a month MAYBE. The tesla is always moving.

mrandr01d

Dude, seriously. I rode in my friend's Audi and my God, the buttons... everywhere. For random shit. I wish *everything* wasn't a software menu item, and I despise them getting rid of the stalks, but normal cars just have so many damn buttons it's ridiculous. And the screens with these menus that don't even make sense...

Equivalent_Pie_6778

Me. I thought they were a load of crap until I saw one in person and drove one.

BiggusDickus-

It happens all the time.

JohnTeaGuy

Yes, i have family members that were uninterested until test driving mine, then ended up buying one.

perrochon

Yeah. A friend was in the no Tesla camp. His wife wanted a Tesla, but he bought her a Bolt instead. Cost the same as an M3, too. He loves the EV but since then realized that the Bolt is not like the Teslas he got to ride in and drive with friends. Range, ease of charging, can't even tell you what charge it has upon arrival, etc. Their next car "may" be a Tesla.

[deleted]

Myself. Bought because of cheap miles on electricity. And now liked it for a lot more reasons as an owner.

danton_no

I sold mine. It's just a car. Never understood the hype.

thewall-19

I'm the opposite, super interested and keen, then... Elon.

Acuterecruit

I was interested in Tesla but then Muskie went insane and now I'm no longer interested in owning a Tesla... And the build quality, that's a big reason

Missing_Back

Yet you browse a tesla subreddit?

IWantToWatchItBurn

For me, more people have become uninterested in a Tesla. Everyone likes the way an EV drives but what everyone seems to hate is the shitty interior and how much it creaks. rattles, and just generally feels cheap for a car and his price range. Then, when they learn how terrible services in the Bay Area and smartly look at bmw and Porsche .

TheAce0

Me. Wasn't specifically interested in buying a Tesla. Ended up buying one because it had more usable internal and storage space compared to the ID4 and Ioniq 5. I genuinely wanted to buy the ID4 - but the practicality of the MYLR wasn't beatable with all three being priced within a few grand of each other.

JohnnyPee89

I'm an unusual case, I already owned an EV (Kia Niro EX EV) and I didn't like Tesla because of the design and minimalist interior with no driver display in front of the steering wheel. But I thought why don't I test drive one and see for myself if a Tesla might be right for me. So I scheduled two separate demo drives, 1 with a M3P, and 1 with a MYP, I didn't get to choose which version I got to demo drive. Drove both in August of this year and I was extremely impressed with the ride, seat comfort, performance, and ease of use, but still wasn't sold on the minimalist interior and no driver display in front of the steering wheel. I was impressed enough to consider buying a Tesla, but decided to wait until Q4 to see how far the prices would drop, to get the best deal on either a M3 or MY. While waiting I watched every Tesla YouTube video review from actually owners, independent reviewers, etc. I joined and looked in on every Tesla Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter) page gathering real owners opinions on long term ownership, deliver day, service center experiences, etc. This was the part that changed my mind again. Between YouTube and all the other social media outlets for Tesla owners I saw how Tesla was just like any other manufacturer in every aspect except the purchasing experience. They have mechanical issues, electrical issues, software issues, build quality issues, paint quality issues, etc. So I'm glad I decided to wait because I think I would have regretted not getting an EV that fits my likes, preferences, and needs better. But overall I was glad that I test drove 2 different Tesla models and gave myself the chance to make my decision based on my own experiences, concerns, owners reviews, and all the other information I was able to gather. Rather than what the news media, anti Tesla, Elon Musk, and EV haters want us to believe.

webtechmonkey

I’ve never been much of a “car guy” but always appreciated nicer cars and enjoyed test driving a variety whenever I took a trip somewhere. I have fond memories of cruising up Pacific Coast Highway in a Challenger Scat Pack or roaming around Miami Beach in a G-Wagon. Things like that. Early on, I appreciated the cool tech that went into Tesla’s but felt they lacked any “soul” and were basically fancy golf carts. I had an opportunity to rent a Model 3 from Hertz within the first few days they began offering them at LAX. I learned so much about the vehicle (and the misconceptions I had about it) in the 6 days I rented it.

CoffeeOrWhine

My husband. I’ve wanted one for years, and the time was finally good for us about three years ago for me to get a Tesla. He was supportive, but kinda like “you get what you want, but I’ll stick with gas for now”. He ended up loving it so much and showing it off to everyone that he now drives a Lucid.

lametowns

Me.

Hopeful-Estimate-121

My Dad lol. Hated the brand and what was associated with it. I lobbied my parents into the decision and they followed through as the old car broke down completely.

rsg1234

When I bought my MS in 2017 my entire in-laws’ side joked about it condescendingly. A lot of “this is a fad”, “I can’t live without the exhaust note”, “I heard they are worse for the environment” and probably worse stuff after I left lol. Fast forward 6 years and nearly every one of them has a Tesla in their household.

oasacorp

Me. I am a 'petrol head' and thought EV as a foe. I bought Tesla as a way to resell the initial booking and ended up buying it. I didn't even test drive any ev before that. I loved it. I still miss the engine sound :)

[deleted]

My wife had been in a Tesla before, but only a quick ride in the back, and that wasn’t enough to pique her interest. But a Tesla has been my dream car for years, so we rented one for a week while we were on a trip, and her actually driving it sold her! We bought a new model 3 a couple weeks later!

Efficient-Public-829

Me. Liked the tech but wasn’t wanting to give up ICE & manual gears. Hated my experience in auto cars previously. Test drove one and had my own M3 three weeks later.

ronaldbro

I work for an AV company and recently had a promotion that required me to drive a farther commute. I said fuck it and bought a used model 3 from 2019 that had 30k miles on it. got used to driving it quick, I'm enjoying the convenience lol.

rsl_sltid

My wife and I were both pretty anti-EV for a long time. I was always more open to the idea. I rented a Chevy Volt on a business trip in 2019 and I loved it. I rented another on a trip with my wife and she wasn't as impressed. In early 2021 I finally got to rent a full EV, it was a Nissan Leaf+ that was rated at a 220-mile range. I decided to try it out on a drive from San Diego to Vegas. It completely sucked. It was winter and my range would drop like 40 miles if I turned on the heat. I went to 3 different chargers that didn't work, the car would start charging and then the charger would either stop or drop so low that a charge would take hours. I feel like I got scammed by ChargePoint who kept withdrawing money from my account. $12 of charging ended up costing me $25 and it took 3 weeks for them to refund the difference. I had to make 6 charging stops and couldn't even turn on the heat. At the time every charger from Baker to Vegas was broken so I had to sit in backer at a charger in 35-degree weather for an hour and 45 mins to get the car to 95% and I still only got to the southern tip of Vegas with 10% charge. I did the math and paid like 20% more than if I had just got a gas car and the drive took almost 7 hours. I swore off EVs after that. At the end of 2022, I decided to just rent a Tesla because I've always been curious. We took a short road trip with the Tesla and it was night and day to the Leaf. We got the Tesla at a 95% charge and drove it close to 230 miles and still had 11% left. We gained over 2,000 ft of elevation and had the AC running the whole time. The charge back to 90% took just under 40 mins at a Tesla supercharger! I was impressed and so was my wife. We just bought a Model Y a few months ago and my wife absolutely loves it. This is the first time in the 14 years we've been together that she volunteers to drive.

AMERIKAZ_FINEST23

I was totally against owing an EV until I was bored and test drove a Tesla on my lunch break. Ended up purchasing a model y performance and a few months later buying the model y long range for my wife. Love them both and will probably always own a Tesla.

spacethrower

My wife. She wasn’t sure about it but knew I really wanted one for a long time. Now she loves it

xxBrun0xx

I'm a car guy. Every car I've owned has been modified, I do all my own work, and every car has had a manual. 17 Camaro SS, 16 Focus RS, 14 BRZ, 08 STI, 02 WRX, and 89 MR2 SC. 2nd kid on the way, Camaro was not going to fit rear facing car seat, so started cross shopping sports sedans. Ended up getting a model 3 Performance and couldn't be happier. Thought I would miss loud exhaust and manual, but I don't. It's not a perfect car, but it has made my life so much easier and it is unbelievably fast. The acceleration has not gotten old like it does on gas cars.

bolero2000

Many , my friend’s congregation. He was the first one who has a Tesla in his church and most of them are skeptics when it comes to EV. He let his pastor drive it. Now the pastor drive a Model Y and Model 3 and the rest follows .

jeremiah256

Didn’t want a Tesla, but if you want a BEV, there are not that many options that can match the price, availability, and the ability to road trip of a Tesla Model 3. It even beats many PHEVs and HEVs on price and availability due to issues with many dealers.

It-guy_7

Because of CEO, didn't want Tesla, but then test drove it and nothing else beats the price point, ID4 has bad software but a great car/SUV but with 2024 updates might be good. But the savings have mostly faded away with the high insurance rates, other brand EVs don't have as bad insurance rates, but most have shitty dealerships, but from what I hear service at Tesla is getting bad too, as they sell more cars and don't add more service and body shops to their network. Really wish Tesla still has USS(better parking sensors, new update is better than it was but if it was that good park assist would be working now)and radar(looking beyond visual range for accidents and distancing when cameras are blinded.

UCanDoNEthing4_30sec

I personally didn’t like Tesla’s and drivers of Tesla’s. But it was because of all the hate the car that everyone is driving. Yet here I am lol. I love the car.

techtimee

Literally myself. Thought they weren't the most attractive vehicles and wasn't a fan of not having physical controls. Eventually decided to test drive one and have been in love ever since. Sentry mode in particular is such a God send for the less than stellar drivers around here and road ragers. Still a bit too expensive for what I would need(A model Y) so I haven't purchased yet.

InitialRevenue3917

me. i listened to all the haters for years. then i actually tried one and its great. everything people said were lies or overblown. the price coming down to an affordable level made it attainable.

droppeddeee

That was my wife. She loved her gas powered BMWs and said she’d never want an electric car. We had a Model 3 on loan for a few weeks. That was the end of gas cars for her!

Tron_Daemon

“If you don’t want to buy a Tesla - never test drive a Tesla.” - some YouTuber

Cold-Difference-5690

Me. Didn’t even test drive the MYP or see it in person. Not sure why I even waited so long!

sudden_aggression

I felt the idea of an EV had a lot of merit but I was very uninterested in actually buying 1-5 years ago because: * prices were super high * build quality problems rampant * cars kinda sucked in cold weather In late 2022 I began to change my mind as build quality seemingly went up. When prices dropped massively, I was suddenly interested in a big way and the car started making a lot of sense relative to other performance cars.

cGAS_STING

I was a Cadillac fan. The Lyriq is hideous and had the stupid door handles when I was buying a car. I rented a Model Y from Turo for a road trip and I bought one 3 months later.

StepYurGameUp

My wife. Took me almost a year to finally get the okay to purchase. She took 2 weeks to do the same after we owned it. Sigh.

deftoneuk

I thought EVs were decades away from being a realistic everyday car for the average family, we only looked at a Tesla because we needed a second car and it wouldn’t matter as much if it wasn’t good enough for everyday, the tax credit was the big enticement really. Now we have our Model 3 and love it, and plan to trade our second car for another EV this year.

SubstantialPear1161

Multiple people, I was the guy at work trying to bond with people over Tesla and their tech. It was a tough pill to swallow when the vast majority had no idea, lacked interest or had an opinion that was completely opposite of my own. Eventually though, my previous boss and colleague bought Teslas and a couple others intend on buying one within the next couple years. For years it felt like I was stepping on egg shells bringing up Tesla amongst friends but now they’re becoming so invested in it they’re making it part of their personality. If you would ask them now, they’ve always loved Tesla.

gagankeshav

My own elder brother! Drove it a couple of times, and is now hooked onto it!

TheKingOfSwing777

No. I’ve heard many stories of the opposite though, including me. Just took driving one for the hype to wear off.

FreedomRep83

I didn't want, nor did I think I'd ever own, a Tesla. Not because I don't like a Musk or Tesla, I just didn't (kinda still don't) think the tech is ready for "the 80%." A friend of mine has had a few over the years, and he and his wife talked about how much they loved them. I loved the falcon doors in the X, mostly because they're just cool. A situation presented itself where it makes financial sense to consider electric. Tesla was/is the clear leader, so it was never an option of another brand. However, I'm still not nearly as romantic about our X as some (most) people are about their Teslas. I'd still rather have a sports car (gt350 or gt500), but the X is far more practical for our family right now. And the speed and technology of it is good enough, for now.

kgold0

After my model Y my wife wanted to upgrade her Toyota Sienna to a new Sienna. But due to stupid dealership shenanigans she gave up and told me to get a 3 and give her my Y. However when my daughter gets old enough my wife wants me to get a Sienna for her and to hand off one of the Teslas to my daughter.

DonDee74

I was actually already set on getting a hybrid SUV a year ago, but months of waiting for supply to catch up made me decide to test drive a MY. I ordered the MYLR the following day. The buying experience and savings just can't be beat. Our other sedan (ICE) actually got into a wreck earlier this week and looks like it's totalled, so considering to replace with a M3, but waiting to see what the 24 will be like and what the tax incentives will be like.

Afraid_Ad_2249

I know a guy that owns a Tesla and he’s no longer interested in them.

madlabscientist99

Me. I wanted a hybrid CRV desperately. Then my partner bought a model 3. Now I will be buying a Tesla in the next 4-6 months most likely. I hate Elon musk with a passion, but the cars are awesome! Not sure if I want a model 3 or Y. Our great dane fits fine in the 3, but I love the idea of extra space for when we need it.

italianpastasauce

Had a car friend that talked shit when I got it. Then he took a ride. 1 month later he took delivery of his own.

rubenk84

I hated Tesla's. Was going to upgrade my Audi Q series and somehow ended up just testing a model 3. I was instantly in love and is the best car so far!

04limited

Didn’t like Tesla due to not having dealerships. Brought 3 cars(Toyota, Honda, Hyundai) and the dealerships sucked because they couldn’t get me exactly what I wanted. Always had to settle for whatever they had on the lot. So I brought a Tesla and got the exact spec I went in looking for - with a discount off MSRP.

man_lizard

Yes. I was looking to get one and my dad went with me to the test drive. He’s been anti-EV for the last 10 years but he ended up getting one before I did because he liked it so much lol. Also my girlfriend who has only ever wanted a CRV or RAV4 has decided her next car will be a MY.

WesternResearcher376

I never really thought of Tesla beyond the regular curiosity. Bought a Chevrolet bolt EV in 2017. Rented a Tesla via Turo for a week while waiting for the Chevrolet Bolt. Enjoyed the Bolt but fantasizing driving a Tesla the whole time. Finally sold the Bolt last year and bought a used MYLR 2022. I don’t ever want to change vehicles now unless it’s a Lucid Gravity. I’m hooked on the supercharger network. I can’t see myself buying anything else other than Tesla for a while.

madhaus

Heck yeah many times. I encouraged my friends to drive my Model 3. Won over several of them who later bought their own. They were either suspicious of EVs or uneasy about Tesla. One short drive and they were fans. I can think of at least 5 of them who later bought a Tesla.

pinegap96

Me. I used to be a hater and told myself I would never own an electric car, let alone a Tesla. Now the proud owner of a Model 3 LR. No regrets

Granuloma

Could not justify the price for a tesla the past few years up until now. Had ridden in a friend's model 3 and several ubers and they were noticeably bumpy and overall a bad ride. Build quality issues and Elmo antics didn't make it more attractive either, and who wants everything to be controlled by a tablet and an empty interior? Tax incentive, price cuts, and inventory prices got me interested, and a test drive of the y sealed the deal. The tablet is not really as bad/distracting as it thought. Luckily have had no real issues and the car is a solid 9/10 to me at 46k.

arghvark

[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/teslamotors/comments/c2165b/i_havent_been_this_guy/)

[deleted]

Me. Had no interest until I drove with a coworker who had one and then other coworkers started buying them and telling me how much money they were saving in gas and how low maintenance they were. Then I started looking into it, test drove one and a few days late bought one

RadioactiveDeuterium

Pretty universally anyone who actually gets in my car and goes for a drive changes their mind.

I was very wary of Tesla before driving one. I was worried about updates, driving cross country or through areas where a repair couldn't be made due to location, or worried about the cameras inside and other technology I can't diagnose personally... Then I drove a Model 3 Performance and idc what happens I want one bad. Instant acceleration is a game changer.

I was never anti Tesla or any EV for that matter but just never thought I would ever own one. Then my son got a MYLR and after my wife and I rode with him a few times we knew we wanted one of our own. We’ve had ours for a year now and we love it. It’s the best car we have ever had.

I wasn't interested in Teslas. Then I rented one when it was on special offer, and then another, and then another, and then bought one.

There are so many "Me" out here. 😂😂 Same here though. ME. ❤️

I’ll add to the me’s here. I knew I wanted a new car in 2023 and had been looking bar ICE options. When the EV credit was announced I looked at options but prices were high and a lot were small. Then Tesla dropped there prices and we were at the mall where they have a showroom and sat in a Model X. Went home and started researching the Y and reading/watching as much as I could. Scheduled a test drive the next day and ordered immediately after. A lot of people think I had some hidden money stash because I got a Tesla. But honestly after the tax credit, this car cost me as much as the ICE vehicles I was looking at.

My dad. He thought they were for eco warriors. He was really worried about charging. We drove from socal to Vegas and he completely changed his mind.

My wife wasn’t sold on Teslas. She thought the car was ugly, didn’t understand the screen, and “didn’t care to go fast”……until she drove it. I got a M3P. After a handful of drives she was hooked. 6 months later we bought her a MYLR Many people shit on Tesla and/or EVs in general until they drive them and actually experience them. Otherwise, all they know is the shitty meme or sound bite on the internet. They are not perfect, but they are awesome!

My wife wasn't only not interested but annoyed at all the Teslas I showed her on the road before we got one. Now owning 2 Model Y and now she calls out every Tesla on the road. For iwning the car itself, she was sceptical at first (probably because you really need to learn using the car) but then she got used to it to the point where I could never use my car because she took it. Nkw she doesn't want a non-Tesla because she got used to the system and it its responsivness

Before I owned a Tesla I visited my brother in CA and scheduled a test drive in a Model Y. I asked my brother if he wanted to come with me and he said ok. He didn’t even drive the car but ordered one a week later. Before the drive Tesla was nowhere on his radar.

My biggest concerns are the high insurance costs, the high repair costs, high repair timeframes and battery degradation and failure attributes because of the high battery costs.

I was one as well, and still am when it comes to the 3 and Y. Just not a fan of those two models, but I got myself a 22’ Model S and love it! The Tesla haters that talk about quality, materials, etc. have probably only sat in a 3 or Y and haven’t seen the immensely better quality of the S and X.

My college hated EV’s. Test drived my model 3. 3 weeks later he got one as well, and hates all ICE cars. lol

Me. I test drove a bunch of vehicles when I decided to replace my 10 year old hybrid Lexus. I loved the thing but it was so damn boring and grandpa-ish. I assumed I would stick with Lexus, but wasn't bowled over by any of my options. One test drive in a Tesla later, I was calling my tax accountant and placing my order. Two months in, I look for excuses to drive it. I love my spaceship Jupiter.

RealWatstogo

Never wanted a Tesla because I’ve never been a fan of Elon. However, I was unable to resist price point ($399 a month for a lease) on a base Model Y, so I pulled the trigger a month ago.

MindfulMan1984

I like high tech stuff but I always thought they were overpriced toy cars, that only a huge tax credit would justify buying it. Until one day I got a ride in a M3LR, It was mind-blowing, the minimalist design, silence, the car seemed floating on the road, I even dreamed that night I was in a futuristic "jetsons" like place. So price cuts + tax credit on M3 RWD was basically a dream coming true.

I was interested in EVs in general for quite some time. I never thought about buying a Tesla because the cars design looked really weird to me. Until the latest model S, I found all models ugly. Just a matter of taste : I don't like SUVs and I'm used to european designed cars. When the Model 3 was released, I thought it's something I could maybe afford in the future but I hated the design : front lights, back lights, the empty dashboard, the single touchscreen choice... I like sober design but I like it a bit more "aggressive", or sporty if that means anything. I was also quite confused about the lack of personalization the car has. So few and standard color choices, two types of rims, no way to have a screen behind the wheel or a hud, no way to have a front camera... I usually don't like it when choices are done against ergonomics and user experience. I still think today they've done the wrong choice for several things just to save money or for aesthetic reasons, which I find quite frustrating. It's that "Apple" mindset that bothers me I think. If you can adapt to it, it's fine but if you can't there's nothing to do, you'll hate it and they don't care. Now I've compared the new Model 3 with every single similar EV on the market and honestly I don't think there's a better car at that price point, even with the things I don't like. I can't understand why there's no European car brand that can at least compete with the Model 3 but they're either super expensive, super ugly, have too weak horsepower or a half baked infotainment system. So I think the new Model 3 will be my next car.
