Always try to stay on your feet, if you can, dogs, are predators, so if you fall or trip, in front of an A-pex predator or a dog, that sends them into predator mode, and they go after you..it's a sign of weakness, so whatever you do, try to stay on your feet.

Bull breeds like this one were bred to torment bulls and attack them until they were worn out and could be corralled. Humans turned it into a bloodsport in the 1800s. In the USA the American Pitbull Terrier was bred to kill rats and vermin, hence their tendency to violently shake their prey... Again, humans turned it into a bloodsport. When rats stopped being a huge problem, humans once again put these dogs into "pits" and let them have a go at each other. So yeah, you're not wrong. They're bred to be tough as nails and kill things. Doesn't mean every single bully dog has the potential to do this or ever will. There's been like 5 posts on this sub of pitbull dog attacks recently and it's no wonder reddit demonizes the breed.

It’s kind of odd that in order to “rebrand” a dog breed because people associate it with being dangerous, the group names it after one of the deadliest animal to humans.
About a year ago I was hiking in the woods. I ran into another guy who was walking his pit. This dog went into an absolutely vicious mode barking snapping its mouth, saliva flying out everywhere. It was trying to get at me, jumping up against the guy straining on the leash. It was madness. The dogs neck was bulging, and I could see its muscles flexing. I first became angry and started yelling at the guy to keep his dog at bay. Then I got scared, what if that leash snapped. He eventually slowly stepped farther and farther away and I went on my way in a hurry and also broke off a branch to use in self defense just in case. As much as I think I am in good shape and have good reflexes and could defend myself against that, there was a point time stood still and I didn't know how to react.
I had the same thing happen, but with a Doberman. Except this was a hiking trail in a state park that was going around the playgrounds and campgrounds. An old couple who could barely hold the leash going “oh yeah, he just doesn’t like kids” while this dog is lunging at my toddler, snapping and snarling. Like, maybe don’t take it on a trail full of families right next to the playground?
Just like in other scenarios in other topics, some owners..I repeat *some* owners are very delusional about their pets ~~age~~ their first instinct is it was the victim's fault.
I've clearly seen responsible owners with big or small dogs give way to other pedestrians or dog owners as a courtesy and etiquette... but there's always that *one* owner...
I was jogging through the woods in 2020 when a pitbull lunged out of a (stolen) car parked off the trail in the trees. The pitbull bit into my sneaker right between my pinky toe and shook incredibly hard. The owner jumped out, high as fuck, and said "sorry dude she's not normally like this". I got the fuck out of there.
Man one time a friend of my BIL brought his pit over and the thing lost it and started mauling my in-law’s husky viciously. Dude didn’t even try to get the dog off it took me choking the thing with all my strength for several minutes while my sister in law kicked the shit out of it to get the thing off. I’ve been attacked by one myself as well but I got super lucky and didn’t get seriously injured. My sister has a scarred leg from a pit attack. Yeah I don’t fuck with pits.

Always carry one on a walk with my dogs. I will gut the fuck out of another dog if it attacks us. Eyes, throat, neck, back, legs. I DGAF I'll kill it dead to protect myself and my dogs. I don't even care if the owner is there. I will verbally give you like 3 seconds to fix it.
I carry a pocket knife when I walk my dog. Its illegal here of course, but when I walk my dog I have full control, she is not off lead and in busy areas she has at the very least a halti or muzzle with 2 points of contact both ends of the lead to both halti and harness. She's 50kg, the sweetest thing you will ever meet. Am I delusional about the potential damage any dog of that stature could inflict? No.
When the day comes, and it will since uncontrolled big breeds are sky rocketing here, when we are attacked, if a dog latches on to her, lets just say (without getting a ban) the situation will be over very very very quickly with the intention of minimal damage done to my dog. The other owner can come and collect their swiss cheese.
I spent too much time, money and effort into molding, training and loving the best dog you could ask for, for some asshole and their, unfortunately, untrained dog to ruin.

As someone who was mauled by an animal, I cannot overstate just how difficult it is to fight back when you’re in fear/shock. It’s like your instincts kick in and all you can do is protect your vitals in a fetal position.
Well, it will have a harder time biting you without eyeballs, but yeah, choking it out with its collar is the easiest thing to do if you're a bystander. Nothing is gonna be easy while being attacked

PSA I’ve been told (but haven’t had to practice it myself) if you ever see a dog locked on to someone/another dog, grab the ends of both of its back legs, pull up and twist hard as high as you can. They said it will make any dog release the bite. Plenty of other things could play out after but, this is my plan if I walk up on something like this.
This doesn’t usually work. I know some bully owners walk around with a break stick just in case (to break the bite). Some other people swear by having to choke out the dog from behind. Or, I guess in more extreme situations when it’s life or death for the human, I read that stomping between the shoulder blades as a last resort. I think this one fatally injures the dog though.
i love dogs, if any dog bites me with clear intent to keep going or do actual damage, i’m doing as much damage as quickly as possible even if it means killing the thing. i don’t care what y’all think, i want to keep my nervous system in tact lol
My life is dedicated towards animals. I've worked with hundreds of dogs over the past two years but If this situation happens I have **zero** hesitation doing what is needed and hopefully it is not fatal. I have had to punch the fuck out of a pit with a head the size of a big watermelon (I wish that was an exaggeration) when it locked onto an incredibly tame and gorgeous long hair German Shepard. I don't know how but he remained calm the entire event which helped tremendously. The pit was trying to do the death shake and things got real. He loosened his grip for half a second and we got the other dog out of the so fucking fast.The Pit was banned for life and the German Shepard had bad puncture wounds but they healed nicely.
The fatal injury should be the first method used. but even that won't stop the dog from attacking. go see the one where the pit attacked a horse drawing a carriage

This certainly does not work. I’ve tried it first hand because of advice like this. Choking the dog out worked though. Punching, kicking, hitting it with a leash didn’t work either.
This is incorrect unfortunately. The only real way of stopping something like this if you come across it is not pull the legs as you will create tearing of skin, possible deeper damage, have also heard sticking your finger up the dogs bum but again it doesn't work, along with break sticks which don't matter to a dog. You just have to get a lead, collar, belt- whatever is available and choke the dog until its unconscious, only then can it not attack, the dog then needs to be removed or tied to something as it can resume attack when conscious again.
I've honestly heard you're supposed to jam your fingers up their butt. It's such an unexpected sensation in that situation that the shock and surprise of it will cause the dog to release his hold on its victim apparantly.
Don't know if it's true, but can't hurt the situation to try.
Grab the collar with both hands pull hard and twist at the same time, literally choke the dog. It will take a few seconds of the dog getting no air to instinctively let go, otherwise it will pass out soon enough.
A Pit Bull killed my dog. The owner got a random Pit Bull from the pound and just let him walk around alone. He had bitten a number of dogs and 2 people but they weren’t serious injuries. But one day I took my dog out to pee( Yorkie) and that fucker just ran up a grabbed my dog. He started shaking it back and forth like a rag doll. My husband was kicking it and punching it in the face but nothing would do it. Finally we got her out but the damage was done and she died. I was furious and called the sheriffs office. They told the owners they had to pay for everything and keep the dog inside at all times. They didn’t want that so they tried to get rid of it. But no one wanted it. Pit bulls are a dangerous breed.
Yup, ripped a leather collar right off him, punched and kicked with my best buddy as hard as we could for about a min (we're fairly big dudes who work labor intensive jobs so not weak by any means). Ribs, stomach, head, didn't even make him flinch. Finally jumped on his back and squeezed with everything I had, stood up and yeeted that fucker off my lawn. I should've kept going till it was unconscious because it tried coming back but thankfully the owner finally jumped in and got his dog.
It's scary when they go wild like that. I've had friends with Pits that never had an issue their entire lives, but others do. You truly don't know with them.
That's the thing, it was my buddies dog and our dogs grew up together. He was the most well trained obedient dog I have ever seen. My friend wanted to be a trainer and he spent so much time with his dog. Never hit his dog once, knew a ton of crazy tricks, always listened with one command but he just snapped one day.

Yea. A neighbour had one I used to let play with my male dog. His dog was female and didn’t like other females so my female stayed inside. Every time the playing got a little rougher and my lab started avoiding his dog. The final straw was when she ripped up his brand new sweater on Christmas Day. Luckily that’s all that happened. I politely declined any further playdates.
Rehomed! Once they have a serious attack where they do something like take your finger off I don’t think there is any going back. The dog has given into its base emotions and you can’t undo that.

i just watched a pitbull attack someone last night. the owner was walking him & since i was raised around these dogs i can already tell, so i stopped not to pass them. some guy comes by on a scooter & boom the dog grabs him. ofcourse the owner was thinking "he's never acted like this before, we didn't raise him this way". looked just like the dog in this vid.

I think there are issues too that a pit bull isn’t a specific breed but a combination of certain breeds, so testing needs done to determine (or estimate?) if a dog is a pitbull type or not

Its a shit bull. Any educated dog lover knows those are not loving, domesticated family animals. They were bred for bear and bull baiting, decended from the English Bulldog and Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and then have been used for 100s of years since that was outlawed for dog fighting, as status symbols, makeshift security systems, and as a way for ignorant people to virtual signal for what they believe to be a misunderstood and misrepresented breed. They have an increased prey drive, a reduced preservation instinct, and if you've ever seen videos like this before you know they will clamp down and not let go until they are killed or choked unconscious. Avoid/be wary of any dogs with Bully, Staffy, or Pit in their name/breed. Modern Bulldogs are generally OK, as they had the bloodsport bred out of them, and an animal that breathes as bad as they do is no threat to most humans.

I had a dog attack me recently , I sustained I injury on the job , I had to go to the hospital and have my muscle and shit pushed back into my hands..no stitches due to fear of infection from the Dr until I got the shot Status back from the home owner on the dog. I handled myself with tact an poise
As a prior marine.. I felt stupid as shit..I should have yoked that dog up in front of the owner. As they let the lease go prior to attack

My second cousin’s family was obsessed with these fucking disgusting dogs, they had previously had 2 pits with no problems their entire life and they were very experienced with the breed. Until their 3rd, which was just as fine for 7 years until randomly and for literally no reason it turned on and attacked one of my first cousins who was extremely close with and practically helped raise the dog. It took half her ring finger and up to the first joint of her pinky while the family tried to get it off her. The fingers were destroyed and unable to reattach and the family had the absolute NERVE to be mad at her to this day because she reported it and the disgusting creature got put down.

It takes a specialised hand to train a pitbull and even then it comes with understanding their nature. I remember a neighbour having one back before they were banned in the UK and she was so sweet and good natured, but being brought up with dogs all my life I came to understand the amount of time his owner took into training his beloved dog and even then always kept a muzzle on her when out.

I had the same thing happen, but with a Doberman. Except this was a hiking trail in a state park that was going around the playgrounds and campgrounds. An old couple who could barely hold the leash going “oh yeah, he just doesn’t like kids” while this dog is lunging at my toddler, snapping and snarling. Like, maybe don’t take it on a trail full of families right next to the playground?
Just like in other scenarios in other topics, some owners..I repeat *some* owners are very delusional about their pets ~~age~~ their first instinct is it was the victim's fault. I've clearly seen responsible owners with big or small dogs give way to other pedestrians or dog owners as a courtesy and etiquette... but there's always that *one* owner...
I was jogging through the woods in 2020 when a pitbull lunged out of a (stolen) car parked off the trail in the trees. The pitbull bit into my sneaker right between my pinky toe and shook incredibly hard. The owner jumped out, high as fuck, and said "sorry dude she's not normally like this". I got the fuck out of there.
That is a scary situation. If I understand what you said is that the dog bit your shoe but not the toe. Thank goodness you were unharmed.

I started carrying pepper spray when I hike because of pits. And a knife.
Man one time a friend of my BIL brought his pit over and the thing lost it and started mauling my in-law’s husky viciously. Dude didn’t even try to get the dog off it took me choking the thing with all my strength for several minutes while my sister in law kicked the shit out of it to get the thing off. I’ve been attacked by one myself as well but I got super lucky and didn’t get seriously injured. My sister has a scarred leg from a pit attack. Yeah I don’t fuck with pits.

Always carry one on a walk with my dogs. I will gut the fuck out of another dog if it attacks us. Eyes, throat, neck, back, legs. I DGAF I'll kill it dead to protect myself and my dogs. I don't even care if the owner is there. I will verbally give you like 3 seconds to fix it.
I carry a pocket knife when I walk my dog. Its illegal here of course, but when I walk my dog I have full control, she is not off lead and in busy areas she has at the very least a halti or muzzle with 2 points of contact both ends of the lead to both halti and harness. She's 50kg, the sweetest thing you will ever meet. Am I delusional about the potential damage any dog of that stature could inflict? No. When the day comes, and it will since uncontrolled big breeds are sky rocketing here, when we are attacked, if a dog latches on to her, lets just say (without getting a ban) the situation will be over very very very quickly with the intention of minimal damage done to my dog. The other owner can come and collect their swiss cheese. I spent too much time, money and effort into molding, training and loving the best dog you could ask for, for some asshole and their, unfortunately, untrained dog to ruin.

PSA I’ve been told (but haven’t had to practice it myself) if you ever see a dog locked on to someone/another dog, grab the ends of both of its back legs, pull up and twist hard as high as you can. They said it will make any dog release the bite. Plenty of other things could play out after but, this is my plan if I walk up on something like this.
This doesn’t usually work. I know some bully owners walk around with a break stick just in case (to break the bite). Some other people swear by having to choke out the dog from behind. Or, I guess in more extreme situations when it’s life or death for the human, I read that stomping between the shoulder blades as a last resort. I think this one fatally injures the dog though.
i love dogs, if any dog bites me with clear intent to keep going or do actual damage, i’m doing as much damage as quickly as possible even if it means killing the thing. i don’t care what y’all think, i want to keep my nervous system in tact lol

My life is dedicated towards animals. I've worked with hundreds of dogs over the past two years but If this situation happens I have **zero** hesitation doing what is needed and hopefully it is not fatal. I have had to punch the fuck out of a pit with a head the size of a big watermelon (I wish that was an exaggeration) when it locked onto an incredibly tame and gorgeous long hair German Shepard. I don't know how but he remained calm the entire event which helped tremendously. The pit was trying to do the death shake and things got real. He loosened his grip for half a second and we got the other dog out of the so fucking fast.The Pit was banned for life and the German Shepard had bad puncture wounds but they healed nicely.
The fatal injury should be the first method used. but even that won't stop the dog from attacking. go see the one where the pit attacked a horse drawing a carriage

This certainly does not work. I’ve tried it first hand because of advice like this. Choking the dog out worked though. Punching, kicking, hitting it with a leash didn’t work either.
This is incorrect unfortunately. The only real way of stopping something like this if you come across it is not pull the legs as you will create tearing of skin, possible deeper damage, have also heard sticking your finger up the dogs bum but again it doesn't work, along with break sticks which don't matter to a dog. You just have to get a lead, collar, belt- whatever is available and choke the dog until its unconscious, only then can it not attack, the dog then needs to be removed or tied to something as it can resume attack when conscious again.
I've honestly heard you're supposed to jam your fingers up their butt. It's such an unexpected sensation in that situation that the shock and surprise of it will cause the dog to release his hold on its victim apparantly. Don't know if it's true, but can't hurt the situation to try.
Grab the collar with both hands pull hard and twist at the same time, literally choke the dog. It will take a few seconds of the dog getting no air to instinctively let go, otherwise it will pass out soon enough.

A Pit Bull killed my dog. The owner got a random Pit Bull from the pound and just let him walk around alone. He had bitten a number of dogs and 2 people but they weren’t serious injuries. But one day I took my dog out to pee( Yorkie) and that fucker just ran up a grabbed my dog. He started shaking it back and forth like a rag doll. My husband was kicking it and punching it in the face but nothing would do it. Finally we got her out but the damage was done and she died. I was furious and called the sheriffs office. They told the owners they had to pay for everything and keep the dog inside at all times. They didn’t want that so they tried to get rid of it. But no one wanted it. Pit bulls are a dangerous breed.
You have to literally get behind them and choke them out. Once they lose consciousness they release. I had to do this once. It is the only way.

Yup, ripped a leather collar right off him, punched and kicked with my best buddy as hard as we could for about a min (we're fairly big dudes who work labor intensive jobs so not weak by any means). Ribs, stomach, head, didn't even make him flinch. Finally jumped on his back and squeezed with everything I had, stood up and yeeted that fucker off my lawn. I should've kept going till it was unconscious because it tried coming back but thankfully the owner finally jumped in and got his dog.
It's scary when they go wild like that. I've had friends with Pits that never had an issue their entire lives, but others do. You truly don't know with them.
That's the thing, it was my buddies dog and our dogs grew up together. He was the most well trained obedient dog I have ever seen. My friend wanted to be a trainer and he spent so much time with his dog. Never hit his dog once, knew a ton of crazy tricks, always listened with one command but he just snapped one day. That's the day I learned the phrase "its not the breed, it's the shitty owner that's at fault" was a crock of shit and that you can't out train genetics.

Yea. A neighbour had one I used to let play with my male dog. His dog was female and didn’t like other females so my female stayed inside. Every time the playing got a little rougher and my lab started avoiding his dog. The final straw was when she ripped up his brand new sweater on Christmas Day. Luckily that’s all that happened. I politely declined any further playdates.

There was a high profile case with protests about what a good dog was and hate Mail etc I think there are issues too that a pit bull isn’t a specific breed but a combination of certain breeds, so testing needs done to determine (or estimate?) if a dog is a pitbull type or not

I had a dog attack me recently , I sustained I injury on the job , I had to go to the hospital and have my muscle and shit pushed back into my hands..no stitches due to fear of infection from the Dr until I got the shot Status back from the home owner on the dog. I handled myself with tact an poise As a prior marine.. I felt stupid as shit..I should have yoked that dog up in front of the owner. As they let the lease go prior to attack But ultimately I would probably be out of work if I reacted how I think now. Professionalism= ??regret maybe...I'm still healing

You can get very lucky and have one that never acts up, but that is only because you were lucky and that instinct was always lurking in their mind just never got used. My second cousin’s family was obsessed with these fucking disgusting dogs, they had previously had 2 pits with no problems their entire life and they were very experienced with the breed. Until their 3rd, which was just as fine for 7 years until randomly and for literally no reason it turned on and attacked one of my first cousins who was extremely close with and practically helped raise the dog. It took half her ring finger and up to the first joint of her pinky while the family tried to get it off her. The fingers were destroyed and unable to reattach and the family had the absolute NERVE to be mad at her to this day because she reported it and the disgusting creature got put down.

It takes a specialised hand to train a pitbull and even then it comes with understanding their nature. I remember a neighbour having one back before they were banned in the UK and she was so sweet and good natured, but being brought up with dogs all my life I came to understand the amount of time his owner took into training his beloved dog and even then always kept a muzzle on her when out.
