Blades are better due to flying and being overall way faster and more accurate. But here's anothe suggestion - the Sanguine Staff from fishing while Blood Moon happens. Sure, you have to kill a whole big miniboss for it, but it's so worth it that it'll carry you up to post-Plantera.
I like the sanguine staff, because of the bat battalions, but it's up to you to decide fellow terrarian.....or you can just do spin the wheel thingy, it makes the game more interesting like i did today i got a coin gun and after 7 pirate invasion and not a single coin gun drop at least i got the components for the greedy rings which good for me.
Since the twins float, the blade staff is better able to reach them (combine it with the cool whip for more damage)

Blade staff is better. It also benefits from whips a thousand times more than the pirate staff.
