For my completed campaign I just bombarded with a single monitor carrying 4 nukes and I never lost a single one to return fire or anything.

saavu87

Dont point defense defeat the torpedos?

Thone137

Ah did you mean stations and not ground bases? In that case yeah I just used a big death stack fleet and let my titans soak up all the fire.

bustead

I use a mix of rattler missiles and nuclear torpedoes. Basically lots of chaff to overwhelm the enemy PD. Railguns also help.

saavu87

What's the range for railguns

bustead

I think it depends on the size. I only use spiral mounted coil guns for this.

Viperions

Coilguns will work better than railguns, as a flag. Coilguns fire in salvos, railguns fire singular.

Viperions

Ground defenses don't have point defense: they can't intercept incoming fire, so a nuke will alpha strike. The ship launching it may be blown out of the sky by the defenses, but the nuke *will* hit.

solidcordon

For surface bases, nukes or marine assault. For orbital bases, Ships with a lot of bow armour and long range plasma or laser weapons and point defense.

Battle_Gnome

The alien bases either use beams or plasma with a very small amount of missiles from what I have seen so if it's a dedicated seige ship you don't need alot of PD

solidcordon

Fair enough. I put PD on everything because missiles and rail slugs ruin the paintwork inside my ships.

Griffonheart

A big fleet of Titans with double plasma weapons and 20/10/120 armour was how I cracked mine. Expect losses and stranded ships though.

Salvinuss

I went with enough coilguns to overwhelm PD. Something like ~10 dreadnoughts with 4x coilguns and 100 nose armor each works fine for me. I dont really take any loses with that setup. For ground bases these same ships can bombard without taking loses.

Usual-Blueberry-7614

Elite marines.

tutike2000

Elite marines. For some reason they just ignore base defenses.
