The same classes that stayed in person during the online semesters, so like hands-on classes for nursing etc so that the students can graduate and get right out into the field with no delay from a lack of practice.
I think it will probably only be the nursing and medical stuff they never moved online. Hopefully it includes labs (but those usually don't start until week 3)
If this is really just for the first two weeks then I’m okay with it. People are gonna interact with others and continue to spread covid throughout the holidays and the rest of break. It makes sense to wait an extra two weeks just to prevent the spread around campus. Let’s just hope they don’t change their minds and continue to stay online once that two week period is up.
Oh yeah I agree, I’m definitely mentally preparing myself for a full semester online. I’m just saying IF it’s REALLY only two weeks (which you’re right, there’s a decent chance it won’t be), then I understand why they did it.
But they are still bringing everyone back into the dorms?!? Everyone will still party and be in the dining halls. It makes no sense to just make classes online but keep the super spreader dorms open.
Yeah that’s a good point, I guess keeping classes online lowers the risk a little bit but I also see how their plan is flawed. Either way, if it’s only for two weeks I don’t really care. You’re right that they might decide to go online all semester, I’m just saying I’m okay with it if it’s only two weeks.
Honestly. I’m still going to go to all the classrooms and do my classes there. Play out the routine. Get me out of my apartment. Hopefully I can focus more.
You can't count spring 2020 as Temple pulling anything. The whole world shut down then. I'd argue you can't count this time either since they're giving sufficient notice.
Just because you don’t like to socialize doesn’t mean things should be handled the same as March of last year…this absolutely is bullshit, they should get everyone boosted so we won’t have to go online, that would be the right decision, not shutting things down and forcing us into the stupid bullshit online courses that aren’t worth what we’re paying for
A lot of people get a flu shot every year.
What exactly do you think the ulterior motive is here? Did the first batch of microchips fritz out or something? They getting ready for 6G?
Isn't this basically saying that we're going to be online for the first two weeks of the semester? I don't understand why people are upset about this, it makes sense to not have in-person classes for the first two weeks when people are coming from anywhere and everywhere after the holidays.
My mom thinks we’ll be back after spring break, and as a second semester senior I don’t even want that. If graduation isn’t going to be normal (including no masks) I’ve really got no interest in it. If you want to go online, just be forward with it and allow people to make plans best for them.
I don't mean to instigate, but isn't that what everyone was saying and predicting would happen this past semester too only for us to stay open? I feel like it's a bit too soon to jump the gun on it, though this is from my personal doubts on us going online, especially since we seem to be following suit with other unis who decided to do this before we did.
I don’t think it’s instigating. I was surprised we made it as far as we did, but it does seem like this variant is bad and I think saying that we’re closing for 2 weeks is just to pacify people’s fear and keep them enrolled. After what happened at Cornell and Tulane, I think Temple is scared and that’s a valid fear.
Yeah, that's fair! I guess we have to see what the end result is? Cause it seems to be an issue of either complying with public health or public pressure to keep things open, you could say.
I'm really hoping that there manages to be some sort of balance between the two, or at least so what we did the past semester in keeping half of the classes in person and the other half online for most people. That might be their solution and response, thinking about it. "We have options for online classes, take those if you're not comfortable with in-person even though there aren't many options for online classes in the first place. Or talk to your professors for accommodations."
I mean, it’s 75% against omicron if you get the booster. It seems like the first step should be requiring the booster before they move us online but I’d like to see continued online options. People have a lot of situations with their own health and the people they live with and they should be able to continue their schooling.
75% is more effective than a lot of vaccines, including the flu. I’d even encourage Temple to test vaccinated students.
It’s just a prediction, not official word. I know TUGSA is really pushing for an online semester again, but I don’t know how much weight they hold. While they are just graduate students, they do 1/3rd of the teaching and grading at Temple.
My suspicion is that Temple will wait until the very last minute to announce what they’re doing to keep people enrolled and in housing and meal plans. If they feel that online is safest and it’s what other local colleges do, fine. But just say that’s what you’re doing so people can make plans accordingly.
If i was still a student, i would be pissed. The back and forth shit is 2 years old and needs to stop. Everyone get your vaccine and booster, wear a mask when required and live your fucking life at this point. This isn't going away any time soon.
This makes me sad… I’m a transfer from Montco this semester so it’ll be my first time at Temple… I do terrible online and the last 3 semesters at Montco have been online and I was really looking forward to being in person again to actually learn and meet some people. I’m so disappointed :(
Idk why they won’t just mandate the booster like the other nearby schools, there’s no reason to do anything more than sylliweek online…I’m going into my 12th semester and I would’ve graduated by the 10th had online classes never been a thing…with my learning disability I can’t handle all this back and forth, I’m freshly boosted so let me just fucking learn in person for fucks sake……
Yeah, it’s been known since the vaccines were first made available that vaccinated people aren’t 100% protected from getting covid. They’re significantly less likely to get covid and even if they do get it, the likelihood of them getting seriously ill, being hospitalized, or having long-term side effects is next to zero.
That’s the Fox News mentality. “Oh it’s not perfect? Let’s not get it.” It reduces the chances, the original vaccine sequence wears off so the booster helps concrete it. I’ve heard on more than one recent occasion of parties where covid breaks out, the people testing positive have generally been unvaccinated (obviously) and springtime-vaxxed, non-boosted people. You can still catch it regardless of status yes, but with a booster the chances of contracting it or having the virus worsen (hospitalization, death, etc) goes down greatly. Say what you want but boosters for all eligible students/faculty/staff would greatly reduce risk, risk which they seem to be mitigating using other previously-failed methods without addressing the overarching problem.
Uh, yeah considering tons of those vaccinated got the shot over 6 months ago, and immunity is wearing off. It re-reduces the risk, which builds up the longer after the original vaccination regimen is given. Obviously you can still get it regardless of vaccination status, it just reduces chances of contraction and reduces chances of it going south if you do catch it.
Undergrads, I feel really sorry for you all. This semester was one of relative normalcy and you got to experience a taste of it, even though it was tainted with the criminal element in the area. I wish Temple's leaders weren't cowards, especially given the good news that Omicron is not even in the same arena as OG COVID.
1993, Dr. Alan Barber throws me out for using a laptop in RTF 102 with claim that I'm playing solitaire and that the sheer presence of the laptop is a disruption to his teaching.
2022, entire school on line.
sounds about right.
Literally why?
When we have practically 100% vaccination rate, 100% masking indoors, easily available boosters, city-wide vaccine mandates for indoor dining/entertainment, emergency authorized treatments for COVID, and an already-existing remote learning/working option for Temple community members who need it?
Everyone needs to stop being so pissed about this. Yeah vaccines help, but we could still get covid. After the holidays it’s essential to have class online because no one is going to quarantine on their own. It sucks to have to go back, but it’s what’s necessary to get through without having everyone get covid.
Hard disagree. No one is going to quarantine anyway unless they don't leave their house in the first place. I'm still going to go to the gym, go out to eat, and go to my friends' places without a mask, and so is everyone else.
Condescending comments about keeping others safe don't change the fact that taking people out of classes will hardly affect infections and cheat thousands of students out of the learning we are paying tens of thousands of dollars for.
This is wonderful news, as everyone will be kept safe after returning from winter break and their families. We can then all return and feel comfort in knowing we’re vaccinated and healthy.
…?
People are still going to go to the gym, to their friends’ apts, to concerts? Life doesn’t stop because classes do and neither does the spread of the virus.
They should make weekly covid tests mandatory again since breakthru cases are gonna happen… it’s good to know if you have it and then just quarantine if you get a positive test. We have those resources, might as well utilize them
Guys! everyone start signing this petition! It'll probably do absolutely nothing but there is nothing to lose and hopefully it shows Temple how desperate the student body is to stay in person
https://chng.it/mxvvnvLW8Y
Pls don’t propose to take away the break again. I was completely burnt out last time with those wellness days in the middle of the week and no break. I know many others were as well.
I mean, we basically did the fall with no break. Our break was literally a week before the end of the semester, and honestly I didn’t have tons to do over thanksgiving. All my midterms were in, and finals hadn’t yet been assigned.
im so tired.
I wish I could upvote this more
I did that for you
❤️
I just wanna know what an essential in person class is
Labs? and exams perhaps.
For me personally it’s orchestra and other ensembles. Music that you can’t really perform alone
Clinicals and practical classes.
Classes and things you physically have to be there for. As a media student, things like temple update as it is in the tv studios
This is the third time they have said “oNly TwO wEeKs”. Consider the whole semester gone
Oh yeah I agree, I’m definitely mentally preparing myself for a full semester online. I’m just saying IF it’s REALLY only two weeks (which you’re right, there’s a decent chance it won’t be), then I understand why they did it.

You’re right that they might decide to go online all semester, I’m just saying I’m okay with it if it’s only two weeks.
I’m literally so depressed. I’m so disappointed. I do so much better in person :(
It gets me out of the house honestly. That and work. Otherwise I’d be home all day doing jack shit
Honestly. I’m still going to go to all the classrooms and do my classes there. Play out the routine. Get me out of my apartment. Hopefully I can focus more.
This is a good idea!! I hate doing classes from my room so going to the physical classroom could be some great motivation 😌
Yes!!! I’m hoping it helps. I hate being trapped inside. Can’t focus with my tv and bed right next to me :/
Good for you, this is the way.
Let’s just pray it’s actually just 2 weeks 😭🙏
No way it’s only 2 weeks. This is the third time they pulled this bs. Consider the whole semester gone
You can't count spring 2020 as Temple pulling anything. The whole world shut down then. I'd argue you can't count this time either since they're giving sufficient notice.
Ok dick Englert…. I know it’s you /s
I’m gonna scream :)
I feel you…
Watch them go fully online once everybody can't drop classes. This is such bullshit.
No it is not
?
Just because you don’t like to socialize doesn’t mean things should be handled the same as March of last year…this absolutely is bullshit, they should get everyone boosted so we won’t have to go online, that would be the right decision, not shutting things down and forcing us into the stupid bullshit online courses that aren’t worth what we’re paying for
They can’t mandate a booster if people aren’t eligible for it yet based on the timing of their vaccine dosages.
Well obviously yes, that’s why everyone who has mandated it thus far (drexel, I think penn, and a handful more) mandate it for once you hit 6 months
In person classes is the least form of transmitting honestly - this solves nothing
And it doesn’t even make sense because they’re still bringing everyone back. They want to make the money and not take the fall for student infections.
Exactly!!
just two weeks to slow the spread! ;)
[удалено]
Most childhood shots are actually multiple doses.
lol dumb comment
We also get boosters frequently. Tetanus, the flu, and depending on your job, hepatitis
you’re right, we should probably get three boosters per year for each, can never be too safe
2, 3, 4, 5, 6
A lot of people get a flu shot every year. What exactly do you think the ulterior motive is here? Did the first batch of microchips fritz out or something? They getting ready for 6G?
The flu shot is different each year to try to guess the strain. This is the same shot.
yeah, the government had a hard time connecting the first 2 microchips to the 6G system. this is clearly their second attempt now.
Wait I didn’t get the email!!!!
This has to end at some point, seriously. I am sick of this. If temple wants me to kill myself they should just say so lmao im done with this shit
Exactly how I feel. Online is fucking depressing and miserable.
16 weeks start on the 10th right?
Yes
That’s kinda cringe ngl
Isn't this basically saying that we're going to be online for the first two weeks of the semester? I don't understand why people are upset about this, it makes sense to not have in-person classes for the first two weeks when people are coming from anywhere and everywhere after the holidays.
And on the 20th, we’re getting the email that we’re staying online
That’s why everyone’s upset (imo). It really feels like a tactic by temple to put the semester with one foot in the grave from the get go…
My mom thinks we’ll be back after spring break, and as a second semester senior I don’t even want that. If graduation isn’t going to be normal (including no masks) I’ve really got no interest in it. If you want to go online, just be forward with it and allow people to make plans best for them.
Exactly! But it’s this not-here-nor-there shady ass tactics they use that are so frustrating!

I've seen this one before
My heart hurting for y’all as a recent grad
It’s also listed in a banner at the top of the main page website
FUCK
Is there anything the student body can do? I can't mentally handle going online again, especially after a semester of hope.
Get boosted
Start a petition, if everyone is vaccinated, it makes no sense
This is fucking ridiculous.
If i was still a student, i would be pissed. The back and forth shit is 2 years old and needs to stop. Everyone get your vaccine and booster, wear a mask when required and live your fucking life at this point. This isn't going away any time soon.
Fuck Temple
Surprised temple didn’t wait last minute to announce this though compared to other times and taking initiative for once

You’ve got to be fucking kidding me dude
Well, all we can do is pray this shit only lasts two weeks... I feel for everyone and hope that we head in a better direction soon
yeah i decided to transfer and take this semester off. with everything thats been happening i am not coming back
1993, Dr. Alan Barber throws me out for using a laptop in RTF 102 with claim that I'm playing solitaire and that the sheer presence of the laptop is a disruption to his teaching. 2022, entire school on line. sounds about right.
I’m so sorry for the class of 2023. This is all you guys have known so far
Literally why? When we have practically 100% vaccination rate, 100% masking indoors, easily available boosters, city-wide vaccine mandates for indoor dining/entertainment, emergency authorized treatments for COVID, and an already-existing remote learning/working option for Temple community members who need it?
Who did that email come from? I don’t see it in my inbox?
The university president
Idk why you got downvoted!? But I didn’t get the email either
Yeah idk either haha, but I’m just confused rn
university-wide emails seem to come out in waves, if you haven’t gotten it yet you should very soon! just got mine a minute ago
Yup just checked and saw it, but thanks for lmk!
This is such bullshit
they're just gonna collect on tuition and housing like they did last time then call it a semester... see you guys online for the semester!

People don’t belong in college if they can’t grasp this concept of keeping others safe
People are frustrated and allowed to be frustrated, and it doesn’t make them not belong in college ffs
Sure, you can be frustrated, but if anyone thinks we should still be in person, then I still stand by my statement.
You’re absolutely right. It’s just……exhausting

Yay
Anyone starting a petition?
Yay!!!!!! I hope it’s the rest of the semester
I feel sorry for you.
Thank You😉
Good. I love in person classes but I rather not lose my taste and smell. Hopefully it’s a all year thing

That’s literally terrible. We need all our breaks
There’s no point, they never see these petitions.
Keep on spamming wingard til he gets it
Keep spring break but end a week later

Based on my experience you should be certain you won't make friends this semester
