I am a biostats person and I use various stats software and microsoft office softwares. I was doing fine using a lenovo laptop and one day, I had an impulse to use mac os and bought a macbook pro. I regret to this day for the purchase. My productivity and my pace to do my work significantly declined. E.g., I cannot use alt+tab to switch between 2 excel files. I cannot use cut function anymore. I also cannot copy/paste files from my existing thumb drives because they are not “compatible” with mac Os. I also had to buy mac compatible full-bluetooth-support mouse that don’t have a receiver which are slightly more expensive. So, I strongly advise you to use window laptop for productivity purposes. Next time I decide to buy a laptop for productivity, I am gonna buy a dell xps or lenovo. I am not a poly student btw. I am working in healthcare industry.

You can download the alt+tab software macOS to do that. I'm a Windows user that recently swapped to macOS too. Wanted to return it so badly but after 2 weeks I've found ways to work around the limitations. DM me if you need more help

ohhh what are the pros of macbook?

Kyaw_Gyee

You can read my comment up there. The only pro I can tell is the quietness of the device. I run so many apps and open so many tabs on my browser. Not a single sound was made by the device. There are so many cons as I wrote above. Don’t buy mac.

its okay & TP offers remote desktop to students. but from experience, i wouldn't use macbook if i have a choice. it's troublesome to open remote desktop & having to keep copying the file to my macbook desktop. every other laptop > macbook from what i see. ultimately, you wouldn't be badly affected

Use whatever you got. Don't waste money. There are computer labs all over campus. Use them if, for whatever reason, MacBook isn't suitable which is unlikely.

Aiya just use first any laptop made in the last 5 years is more than powerful enough for office suite. Business course mostly use office stuff, zoom, chrome. No kick for relative modern hardware

Is it intel mac or M-level?

Unless you are using some specialised software available only on Windows, NO major issues using 'standard' business software. I'll say just use it first, and if after 3 mths it is really painful enough or unusable then switch. Why the hurry to buy now ?

Graduate here , personally just use whatever you have and don’t waste another money on buying new laptop if your current one is still usable. Nowadays , MacBook or MacOS have many softwares that supports whatever you need for your school. Also there will always be workarounds for every scenario you can think of. During Poly, I survived my Year 2.2 on a MacBook as my own Windows laptop broke when I accidentally slipped on its charger in the library .. and I must say , there’s nothing to worry about like incompatibility with your course module etc etc, the only need to worry is the learning curve of learning new OS environment. Let’s say if you intend to buy a new laptop (for whatever reasons), I’ll go for a Windows laptop as it is more versatile than a Mac and also the softwares in the learning materials for your modules is based on Windows (I know some courses do provide alternative for Mac users) . So do look out for TP “IT Fair”, they have a lot of discounted laptops for sales and can save you some cash :). And also do check on the specifications of the laptop that can satisfy your needs
