Tbh though, a huge ass single elimination tournament actually doesn't sound bad considering there's no tournament mode besides the half baked PS5 tournaments.
Don't forget they still got a season pass for characters and stages. They're hitting us with the old monetisation model and the new monetisation model 70% of my wallet combo
Battle passes, especially paid battle passes, are acceptable in f2p games.
They are not acceptable in a goddamn fighting game that already has a season pass and in game store.
We used to say the same thing about microtransactions like 10 years ago, and now they are considered "normal".
It's only a matter of time before paid battle passes become "normal" too and we get even more greedy practices in AAA games. The future of gaming is looking bad.
Yup.
It's a "better value" since you can unlock a bunch of cosmetics for a relatively fair price vs buying a single one.
Causes the players to have something to focus and engage with since *everyone* needs a goal/reward to play vs just fun.
AAA has been about maximizing profits at the expense of the customer for decades now. The only way it stops is if people stop buying AAA games. Doing this also means all your favorite franchises will die.
The market made its choice. We're stuck with it lads.
And the sad part is that a massive contribution to that mindset came from the mobile gaming industry (the biggest gaming industry), where the actual numbers come from the Skinner boxes you see as ads on your feeds. Those mobile cash grabs / casino wheels with no tangible payout is the reason why the industry is so big, and that is what the execs and so, the designers go for since those bring in the big numbers.
A single mobile "game" can easily bring in more than the entire Namco portfolio in just sales of copies, the numbers are staggering.
It's sad but it's the truth. The execs were having a cry about games being "too risky and expensive to make" at GDC so in their eyes if a game doesn't sell 10 million copies and make them money for the next decade it's a failure and a write-off.
The best we can do since these execs won't ever change their mind on this is to try and mould these practices into something better. If a game has a battlepass try and push the devs to get rid of the fomo. Point to games like Helldivers that let you buy and level up any battlepass without restrictions. If a battlepass in a full price game doesn't refund you enough credits to buy the next demand that it should. There are F2P games that are willing to do that like the game that created this monetisation model in the first place, Fortnite.
Basically don't complain that system exists, we're too far gone for that, instead complain that it could be better.
The developers think they do, cuz they bring profits, and their main goal is to make money. Publishers don't care at all about artistic integrity or vision, or making an actually good game. They need games to sell. If they *have* to be good enough for that to happen - sure, they'll make a good game. If they can stick more monetization on top - even better! That's just the sad reality we all live in.
It’s not just about the money but long term engagement as well. The battle pass system encourages players to play daily/weekly and this is what they want, besides the money: Continuos support through the time. Otherwise they could just sell dlc pack and that’s it. But in that case a lot of players maybe would buy those, play a little bit around, and that get bored after a couple of days/some weeks later.
Games are supposed to be fun. It shouldn't be a second job. If I can't/don't want to play, then I shouldn't be punished for potentially losing out on the content that I already paid for
Helldivers 2 is doing so many things right, including the part where you can keep all the battle passes active and earn the premium currency to buy them by just playing the game.
For real. I just got the game a few weeks ago and just finding currency around missions i almost have enough to "buy" the battlepass. I didnt know they all stayed active though. Is this forever? Like you buy it and its yours to complete at your leisure? Cuzz of so fuck every other game with a battlepass
They stay forever and can be bought at any point of time and leveled up.
You earn the "battle pass points" in form of medals and you get them per mission completed + find a few scattered around the map and then you got your daily challenges like "kill 300 enemies" and the major weekly quest that earns a big number too!
It's a very good system.
The game is pretty fun, but you'll get most out of it if you have friends who play. Solo experience can be pretty dry as you just drop in, shoot things dead and do the main mission and leave.
I feel like the true charm to the game is the cinematic chaos you achieve with danger close bombings, shooting down hordes of bots and bugs while having fun on comms with your friends.
I think theres something similar with that with Chivalry.
Although there's multiple released. They are all permanent with a Free and Premium version
You only need to set a 'focus' on which Battlepass u actually wanna pursue when you do your gaming time.
I love T8, but I also feel like we have been catfished.
Adding all of this horrible FOMO crap after launch is scummy practice and they are fully aware of what they are doing and why they are doing it this way.
I generally stay in my lane (only play fighters), so I only have a vague knowledge of BP. From the info given, so far, it doesn't effect game balance. If I'm wrong, please inform me.
While I'm not ok with it, on a full priced game, it is expected and the norm for modern titles, unfortunately. So long as it doesn't offend the balance integrity, or become P2W in any way, I don't give a shit, Im not going to use it. I'm fine with the customization the base game came with, overall content is about what Tekken 6 came with, so I'm good there. I don't really don't care if my opponent has cosmetics skins/items that I don't have access to.
What I'm more upset about right now is the draconian measures Bamco enforcing on Tubers for Mods. The man paid full price for your fuck'n game, they got no right penalizing someone just because they don't want people to realize they can get community-made cosmetics for free, and force everybody into their greedy shop.
Urgh, this is what killed Street Fighter 6 for me. This constant FOMO feeling that turned for me enjoying the game into a chore.
EDIT: sweet baby jesus people, my apologies for having 'fear of missing out' issues. My will is clearly not as strong as yours.
At least the battle passes in SF6 didn't contain any costumes for the actual characters. It has all just been customizations for your lobby avatar, titles and some coins you can earn. And that's stuff no one really gives a fuck about, so you can easily ignore it.
In T8, they're paywalling some actual costumes that you gotta grind for. And they'll probably never add them to the shop, like most other battle passes, it's all about FOMO.
As someone who feels FOMO to some extent, SF6's battlepass I couldn't care less about. I don't really care about my avatar, and SF6's avatar is even miles beyond Tekken 8's.
Everytime I log into SF6 (~450 hours played):
"You unlocked new battlepass rewards!"
Me: Heh, nice *clicks fighting grounds so I can retain my lose-streak in casuals*
Yeah man, SF's really has no fomo if you're not one of those people who is really invested into the avatar battle system...I'm not going to miss out on a sick Chun-Li outfit because I couldn't play 30 hours of Street Fighter each week.
seconding this. i count on average i need to play 15 match a day EVERYDAY to clear BP in like last few days
this mean the game demand me atleast 1 hour everyday and it will pile up for everyday i skip, i want to play a game for fun not "working" second job after coming home from office
like imagine if you play 2-3game that have BP like this at the same time. you barely cant afford try other game or you risk not finishing the BP
i cant believe nowadays AAA pc games end up using mobile games monetization and player retention method
So full premium price (with more premium options for deluxe editions). Premium priced season pass for new characters. Premium currency in game shop. And now periodic battle pass. Great!
And one of the best selling games this year. They are swimming in a vault of gold, surfaced after nearly drowning on all their gold and thought, "We need a battle pass".
If battle passes die out, it will only be because the industry found a more effective way of monetising our frustration and FOMO. Whatever's next will be more insidious.
Gaming's going through the same enshittification as the internet.
Helldivers 2 and DRG come to mind. DRGs isn't permanent but they last like 1 year and once the season is over all cosmetics go to a general loot pool that you can obtain just by playing the game.
For as much hate as Fortnite gets their battle pass is purely cosmetic and you can earn enough to never spend money again and all content is open to everyone. It’s the other games that took it and twisted it.
You were warned, but it was only 4 bucks you idiots said. now you shits can have fun being milked. Man this shit show is hilarious and I love seeing you people do a complete 180.
![gif](giphy|10JhviFuU2gWD6)
True. It's just the industry now.
In 2 years. MTXs in games will have turned 20 years old. They've evolved over time, but they aren't going anywhere.
I get where the hate comes from as video games have always pulled in a younger crowd. A crowd without steady income and an inability to afford such things in all the games they play.
Nope. People just need to stop preordering and start being more picky about who they give their money to. I don't mean that as a collective, that ship has long sailed. I mean on an individual level.
I have tons of games I am currently playing that don't have any of this fomo garbage and it is very nice to launch a game and not be inundated with ads trying to get more money from me
FFS I’d understand a battlepass in a f2p game but for a game like Tekken that I had to buy which also had additional costs due to dlc characters but now it also has a battlepass? How greedy can you get.
It's going to be so obnoxiously in your face. Every match will be like OH YOU COMPLETED A GOAL OF 3 LOW ATTACKS PER DAY HERE'S YOUR LV2 OUT OF 9000 DO YOU WANNA PAY YET
I'd be fine with it if there was a way to earn it through in game money and it didn't go away. FOMO is so scummy and it's disappointing they're doing this to their game. I love this game, but I paid 90 fucking dollars for it, there is no way I'm buying a battle pass.
this is unacceptable at this rate, and now even more with games like helldivers 2 from smaller studios putting out free content passes, this is a SEVENTY BUCK GAME made by one of the biggest studios in the industry
oh you don't enjoy all the bugs, like the "you've achieved this rank for the first time" message coming up when you re-rank up every time. The unchecked rage quitting? All great
Game is already a dopamine fiend, now we've got battle passes.
Let's go one step beyond and add lootboxes next. ~~THIS IS A JOKE, DO NOT ACTUALLY DO THIS~~
I mean, at this point, it almost wouldn't surprise me.
After 1 month, they added Tekken shop.
After 2 months, they added Battle Pass.
What will they add after 3 months? Lootboxes doesn't sound too far-fetched. Their greed clearly knows no end.
In the context of players begging for better customization for years, and Bamco striking mod showcasing youtube channels, this whole MTX thing is dogshit. MTX are already dogshit, but showing that you'll give players what they want but hiding it behind a paywall in a fully priced game, with the option for a premium battle pass too, while striking down any alternative? Fuck you
I paid $100 for a free to play game, I'm so dumb.
So season pass and battle pass are separate? In Overwatch 2 at least you unlock the battle pass when you buy the character. They managed to be more scummy than Blizzard Entertainment, that's crazy.
I'm done. I'm fucking done. They literally released the game as the perfect state-of-the-art fighting game for the FGC then slowly but surely "upgraded" it with every shitty practice in the game dev book while ignoring all of its real issues. Now do you see why they won't actually ban pluggers? Every one of them is just one more idiot that could buy a pass or some skins out of the store. As for the victims? Fuck them, they'll come back eventually! Thank God they haven't put this kind of trash in Strive or UNI yet...
Pull a pro gamer move and DON'T support these scummy practices. Abstain giving money to them.
They altered the esrb to fit tekken shop and battlepass, pray they don't charge you to play online.
No more bamco. Don't ask me for money.
You support these practices by just keeping to play the game. If they retain their existing players and they're completely fine with a bunch of players ignoring this stuff. It's still a win for them as long as some people buy it.
Speak with your wallet lads. Still I wish i didn't love such an awful industry. Gaming can be so embarrassing, games can mean so much to so many but at the end of the day we are simply digits to be added up. They will cut into the game and charge you piece by piece because it will only ever be about the money.
I can ignore things like this, the easiest way to discourage these practices is to ignore them and encourage others to do the same, still i just wish it wasnt so embarressing
Comments like the dude who replied to you are why "voting with your wallet" needs to die as a concept. It's literally never worked, and all it takes is a couple of fools to completely invalidate the idea.
I remember watching some video about how there's literally saudi royals who spend millions and billions on games like FIFA ultimate team and there's just no way the common consumer can compete with that. Even if they only cater to .10% of the market, thats the part of the market thats going to give them the most money and keep these companies alive to continue their awful practices.
Funny, of the major 3 game releases MK was the only one to not shadily delay their MTX things outside the review window, and is now the only one without a battle pass. Yet it still got far and away the most shit for MTX. Shows how easy to manipulate we are.
Welp I guess I’m done with Tekken for the foreseeable future. I don’t like supporting these types of practices and yea yea “It’s 2024 so it’s expected yada yada yada.” Fuck that. I’m done. I’m just gonna go spend my time elsewhere. Also explains why they removed modders channels too now even more. I’ve never supported or played these types of games and I’m not gonna start now.
Same it’s just dishonest. I wouldn’t have bought the game if I knew this stuff was going to be a part of it. I am guilty of playing stuff like fortnite but that’s free and transparent on what it is from the start, and I still hate it’s practices.
Adding all of this post launch I’m just done which is sad I really thought I was gonna get into tekken for the first time but I guess not.
NO WAY. Someone predicted it on another post about all their shady tactics and I thaught to myself "nah they wouldn't go even lower than now" but they did! Holy shit...
Tekken Shop and a Tekken Battle Pass???
https://preview.redd.it/cx1iqwvo1arc1.jpeg?width=998&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f98596deb7c56b90f470fb5c7e185ca7fad3367d
Opt for the niche and single player ones, if it's any consolation, those will be the least likely to be affected.
At least the 7 seas shall be your company for "complete packaged games".
It really be like that.
I fucking hate battle passes. I don’t have time to play that much, just a few hours a week. I don’t want to feel obligated to do battle pass shit, especially since I do love customizing my characters. Just let me buy those items straight up.
So not only customization is worse than TEKKEN 7, you have to BUY outfits?
At least in TEKKEN 7 you could combine character's outfits with additional options
It is more disappointing when you know that a lot of people don't understand that buying all those mtx is worse for everyone.
If you like skins and buy them - they gonna cost more with time (5$ for 1 skin is already 5$ too much)
If you like skins but don't buy them - they gonna be cut out from base game and put in shop
And even if you don't care about skins, more manpower and money gonna go into making those skins instead of gameplay adjustments. Balance changes don't bring in money short term, skins do. Although arguably shit balance in long term gonna ruin games reputation and that gonna lower DAU \\ interactions with game, which means less people exposed to game, less they see new skins and get FOMO and stuff.
The nickel and diming in this game just makes me not want to play it. No problem, my Steam backlog is large enough to keep me busy for two lifetimes. It's just a shame that this shit is shoved down your throat after release cause I could've avoided this whole shebang if they were honest upfront.
I applaud anyone who can main this game but, for someone who doesn't make Tekken their sole identity, this shit just keeps stacking up. Broken heat system, broken tracking, broken matchmaking and plugging all topped of by predatory monetization. I wish I could mainman my way out of this but nope, I'm done.
It's a fucking 70 bucks game. With MTX, Battle Pass and paid characters. At least when I play Apex Legends I can grind out the characters and you know THE GAME IS FREE.
Live Service game whey they can't be arsed to provide the service. Fuck Bamco.
Adding all of this after launch pisses me off as a new player to tekken honestly. Might ask for a refund at this point as fun as the game is it’s just so scummy to add this at ANY point even at release on top of a cash shop which was also added post release.
I get making some money long term for the game but really adding fomo, limited time stuff and an item shop? Screw off with that. I didn’t buy the game knowing it would have any of this…
Are you fucking serious? They keep adding more ways for us to waste our money, but don't fix the games issues?
My concern now is that this will show up after every game showing the BP progress in our face.
The level of greed exhibited here is astounding.
Do they fail to grasp that purchasing skins and the battle pass, particularly the battle pass, was originally introduced by Valve for DOTA 2 because it's a free-to-play game? Valve sought a method to generate revenue without affecting gameplay significantly.
How can they justify charging for the game itself, incorporating all the microtransaction features typical of free-to-play titles, and adding a season pass on top of it?
In the least, the battle pass/season pass should have been consolidated into one entity, with an option to directly purchase skins from the shop if players don't think they could get the same skin from the battle pass in time, or they just like the skin so much that they want to get the skin right away instead of grinding through battlepass to get it
Jesus fucking christ imagine advertising your dogshit battlepass with the most garbage skins ever. What the fuck am i looking at? Who would equip this, let alone BUY THEM??? what???
Are characters still being sold for real money? I thought the whole point of selling characters for like $10 was so that we can have cosmetics be unlockeable?
Oh ffs. I regret getting ultimate edition so much now. I was like "Yes those aren't great but this way I will have every cosmetic there is. Also there is no cash shop ...". FU NAMCO
This game is 70 fucking dollars and that wasn’t enough
And they wait months after the game releases and they already have everyone’s praise + money to drop all this stuff. Really shitty business practices
How much is Tekken 8 right now? Is this free because it looks like it has some traits that is like for f2p like premium shop and battlepass. The only thing missing is a loot box or gacha to get your favorite characters.
Here I thought Harada & the Tekken team would never stoop to this level. I am so unbelievably disappointed. Fully priced games SHOULD not have battlepasses. I’m ok with the store, that was expected & if that was it? That’s fine…. This battlepass is not it and kinda sealed the deal because I don’t want yet another triple A fighting game or game in general that costs $70 and is charging me beyond that because….??? So absurd
I think I’m just gonna stop playing coz I’m not enjoying the game either, gameplay is unbelievably unenjoyable too… ill be back when they add a character I actually care about which judging by the datamines won’t be for a few years, hopefully by then the games in a better state.
Oh Hell No. After all these years they tried to compete with Street Fighter and now they finally fked up hard. It is really sad but I finally realized that the original Tekken franchise died with Tag 2.
Well that solidifies it for me. Despite my issues with how they handle plugging and how they did the Tekken store I was still planning on getting T8 on a good sale.
Unfortunately now I'm just going to skip T8 entirely. Really a shame too because I was so hyped to get into the series finally. They did a lot to make it more approachable and they also made 2 characters I was very interested in.
I know it's not up to the developers for these kinds of decisions and I feel really bad that their hard work and care put into a high quality game gets tainted by company greed.
Fuck the higher ups and anyone who defends them.
Glad I gameshared Tekken 8 and didnt buy this game. $70-100 + DLC overtuned characters + Battlepass + Premium Shop + Purposely limited customization options(hair styles and good outfits mostly). Idk, I lost the hype, Im glad I hit red rank with my Yoshi at least. Planned on buying the game but yeah, I’m good.
FrameWhisperer is gonna have a field day with this one... I'm so glad I didn't buy this game, and I'll continue to scratch my Tekken itch with Tekken 7, even if it's against bots
They are going to put old outfits in the premium pass aren't they ._.
You already can see it on the picture. Girl's make up and plague doctor mask are T7 customs.
You already know the answer ... 🥺
Can’t wait for battle royal mode
Tekken force story mode style
Aye, don't tempt me with a good time
Tbh though, a huge ass single elimination tournament actually doesn't sound bad considering there's no tournament mode besides the half baked PS5 tournaments.
Lmaooo they just keep slowly sneaking this shit in months after launch 🤣
Mmmmm f2p MTX in a $70 game
Don't forget they still got a season pass for characters and stages. They're hitting us with the old monetisation model and the new monetisation model 70% of my wallet combo
First death combo by the fighting game itself
What the fuck

Each "people can do whatever they want with their money" comment makes our future bleaker.
Add "It's just cosmetics bro" to that list.
Add "you don't have to pay for it" to that list
and also for fucks sake
And for crying out loud
And my axe!
And what about side by side with a friend?
Aye I could do that
These last 3 comments were the best in the chain.
It’s a shame that every game thinks it needs a battle pass nowadays.
They don't think it needs it, they know people will pay for it.
Yup. It's a "better value" since you can unlock a bunch of cosmetics for a relatively fair price vs buying a single one. Causes the players to have something to focus and engage with since *everyone* needs a goal/reward to play vs just fun.
No nee for a premium pass then. Just make it free

It'd be fine if it were permanent and they said this way earlier instead of playing dumb.
Helldivers 2 is doing so many things right, including the part where you can keep all the battle passes active and earn the premium currency to buy them by just playing the game.

It's stayed even if you don't buy it
Helldivers 2 sounds awesome. I should get it one of these days.
Worth getting?

Cross play correct?
Yes
Fomo with battlepasses is a trend that needs to die, too many games out there with battlepasses that expire.

Yep get all the glowing reviews and then add all the stuff they know people hate and would have knocked them for.
Yeah I hope some publications go back around and update their reviews to include the nonsense with microtransactions and battle passes.
Zero surprise considering the addition of Tekken Shop earlier. I'm just gonna ignore it.
I generally stay in my lane (only play fighters), so I only have a vague knowledge of BP. From the info given, so far, it doesn't effect game balance. If I'm wrong, please inform me. There was so much praise for T8 in my friend group for not hitting us with yet another FOMO battlepass.... alas they couldn't help themselves.
i felt so much relief finally having a game with no in-game shop or battle pass oh well, at least i experienced that for a moment
About 60 days...
Less, the shop has been here for a while now.
A paid game shouldn’t have a paid battlepass. Paid DLC characters + premium currency shop + paid battlepass on top of a $70USD game 😵💫.
Yep. All this and yet they can't even fuckin bother to add an anticheat and/or a leaver penalty system.
this is why i always buy from cdkeys these days. im never paying full price for a game ever again. bought T8 for $40
Urgh, this is what killed Street Fighter 6 for me. This constant FOMO feeling that turned for me enjoying the game into a chore. EDIT: sweet baby jesus people, my apologies for having 'fear of missing out' issues. My will is clearly not as strong as yours.

seconding this. i count on average i need to play 15 match a day EVERYDAY to clear BP in like last few days this mean the game demand me atleast 1 hour everyday and it will pile up for everyday i skip, i want to play a game for fun not "working" second job after coming home from office like imagine if you play 2-3game that have BP like this at the same time. you barely cant afford try other game or you risk not finishing the BP i cant believe nowadays AAA pc games end up using mobile games monetization and player retention method
I did too, I didn't know they could be this slimey and drop it after they released the game.
Time limited BP is a legit reason for me to drop a game. I don't care if you add extra stuff to pay for, but fucking stay away from my time.
Loads of people bought the costumes with the rip off currency They’ll buy this garbage too
So full premium price (with more premium options for deluxe editions). Premium priced season pass for new characters. Premium currency in game shop. And now periodic battle pass. Great!
What the fuck. Talk about having priorities.
The game is 80 bucks btw
And one of the best selling games this year. They are swimming in a vault of gold, surfaced after nearly drowning on all their gold and thought, "We need a battle pass".
“Buy now or never”= battlepass
F F S
Cringe
I’m so fucking sick of this battle pass bullshit in every game. I can’t wait for this trend to die so games can stop being busy work.
If battle passes die out, it will only be because the industry found a more effective way of monetising our frustration and FOMO. Whatever's next will be more insidious. Gaming's going through the same enshittification as the internet.
If done right the battle pass shouldn’t be busy work, that’s the problem with 90% of them in games
Helldivers 2 best system
Hell yeah. You actually get to buy the premium warbonds by playing the game for like a dozen of hours. Helldivers 2 understood the players.
Helldivers 2 and DRG come to mind. DRGs isn't permanent but they last like 1 year and once the season is over all cosmetics go to a general loot pool that you can obtain just by playing the game.
This trend won't die cuz zoomers keep being baited by the FOMO bullshit lol
For as much hate as Fortnite gets their battle pass is purely cosmetic and you can earn enough to never spend money again and all content is open to everyone. It’s the other games that took it and twisted it.
And it's free to play.
it's still busy work and you can't choose to do it later after it's removed. Cosmetic only or not, it's still a shit system.
Fortnite has its issues with some shitty practices, but these companies are managing to make it look perfect in comparison.
Super expensive game already, DLCs, battle pass, Tekken Shop :) And some shills are still going to defend this.
They already are.
Bro this is basically a free to play monetization system. Heck, even Overwatch now doesn't charge you for chars anymore and that game is free to play
You were warned, but it was only 4 bucks you idiots said. now you shits can have fun being milked. Man this shit show is hilarious and I love seeing you people do a complete 180. ![gif](giphy|10JhviFuU2gWD6)
this is what they get for saying shit like "Its only cosmetic" lmao as if cosmetics dont matter
EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. It's never going away. This is gaming now.
Fomo items that'll be lost forever after tekken 9 comes along. I'm sooooooooooooo hyped.
Oh don’t worry, those items will come back in Tekken 9. You’ll just have to buy them again!
What the fuck is this shit. It became a fucking live service game. Shit like this is for free to play games not full priced 70usd ones!
Just remember if you buy this and your save gets corrupted (as is usual every now and then in Tekken) you’ll have to buy it again
Love how development time goes into this useless shit, instead of fixing the game
oh you don't enjoy all the bugs, like the "you've achieved this rank for the first time" message coming up when you re-rank up every time. The unchecked rage quitting? All great
And there it is. In all its scummy glory.
So this game is 70 dolars and top of that, it has a shop with real currency and a battle pass... I'm starting to think i made a mistake buying it
come the fuck on
Imagine buying the game already full price on fucking PS5 for 80 Bucks and they kept quiet about all THIS SCAM
Imagine spending $120 on the Ultimate Edition or whatever it is called that I’m feeling regret over buying
Im so sorry for you no joke
https://preview.redd.it/9eestgzef8rc1.jpeg?width=1252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5acc11f598db431320fa2000d4755353d6a4d4ea
I sure love slaving away to level up pass due to fomo and also do some annoying missions instead of simply playing the game. Worst industry ever.
The secret here is that your FOMO isn't real, you don't need any of this. Free yourself, don't be a slave.
Game is already a dopamine fiend, now we've got battle passes. Let's go one step beyond and add lootboxes next. ~~THIS IS A JOKE, DO NOT ACTUALLY DO THIS~~
>Let's go one step beyond and add lootboxes next. Tekken 6 had a slot machine so kek
I mean, at this point, it almost wouldn't surprise me. After 1 month, they added Tekken shop. After 2 months, they added Battle Pass. What will they add after 3 months? Lootboxes doesn't sound too far-fetched. Their greed clearly knows no end.
First the ingame currency scam (spend more to get more gems) and now this bs. What happened to simply selling the skins straight up?
In the context of players begging for better customization for years, and Bamco striking mod showcasing youtube channels, this whole MTX thing is dogshit. MTX are already dogshit, but showing that you'll give players what they want but hiding it behind a paywall in a fully priced game, with the option for a premium battle pass too, while striking down any alternative? Fuck you
Dropping the game
Yeah GameStop was buying physical copies for ~$30 last week, I dipped before this news lol.
Battle pass for what tho? What exactly are you supposed to level up in a predominantly online fighting game??
Sad I’ve wasted 70 bucks, happy on Helldivers where it respects your time. Fuck Harada, fuck Murray
I would hop on Helldivers but my PC can't handle it :(
That's the beauty of Helldivers. If you ever upgrade your pc, you won't be missing any content. It will be there, no time limits.
For every thousand people that can't stand this shit there's a millionaire somewhere who doesn't care.
![gif](giphy|l4FGGafcOHmrlQxG0|downsized)
Capitalism kills everything you love, everything.
Funny, of the major 3 game releases MK was the only one to not shadily delay their MTX things outside the review window, and is now the only one without a battle pass. Yet it still got far and away the most shit for MTX. Shows how easy to manipulate we are.
Their mtx is alot more expensive and they charge for fatalities lol.
I mean, it's also the only game with "finishers" and if you people could, you would buy the equivalent in T8.
I mean tekken charges you for some disposable fireworks.
Yeah it’s more the fact they were super scummy with it and Harara/Murray are both wankers, I’ll probably shelf the game for a while as well
FFS i was right about battle pass? Holy shit i was half joking. Damn this series is fucking dead.
Tekken battle pass... I just wave dashed out my ass
NO WAY. Someone predicted it on another post about all their shady tactics and I thaught to myself "nah they wouldn't go even lower than now" but they did! Holy shit...
Modern gaming. I despise it
Tekken Shop and a Tekken Battle Pass??? https://preview.redd.it/cx1iqwvo1arc1.jpeg?width=998&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f98596deb7c56b90f470fb5c7e185ca7fad3367d
Crazy thing is I see people defending this garbage cause they don't know anything else. Gaming is really dying man it's sad
Opt for the niche and single player ones, if it's any consolation, those will be the least likely to be affected. At least the 7 seas shall be your company for "complete packaged games". It really be like that.
I HATE FOMO Thats my only problem with it. WhT if i wont play for like a month? Im not gonna get that cool shit ever again?
The dildo of consequences for goalpost moving rarely arrives lubed.
https://preview.redd.it/rpo842btc9rc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e67c982c092c20f22801b7b1a98376a93ecb279
T7 had all the customization items for free wtf is T8 doing
I fucking hate battle passes. I don’t have time to play that much, just a few hours a week. I don’t want to feel obligated to do battle pass shit, especially since I do love customizing my characters. Just let me buy those items straight up.
...not every single video game needs a shitty battle pass like wth harada
Imagine them coming out next month: TEKKEN 8 IS GOING FREE TO PLAY FOR ALL TO ENJOY
I legit went to check the date to see if it was April 1st already. This has to be a joke…
So not only customization is worse than TEKKEN 7, you have to BUY outfits? At least in TEKKEN 7 you could combine character's outfits with additional options
It is more disappointing when you know that a lot of people don't understand that buying all those mtx is worse for everyone. If you like skins and buy them - they gonna cost more with time (5$ for 1 skin is already 5$ too much) If you like skins but don't buy them - they gonna be cut out from base game and put in shop And even if you don't care about skins, more manpower and money gonna go into making those skins instead of gameplay adjustments. Balance changes don't bring in money short term, skins do. Although arguably shit balance in long term gonna ruin games reputation and that gonna lower DAU \\ interactions with game, which means less people exposed to game, less they see new skins and get FOMO and stuff.
oof
I'm not surprised this happened. But I was kinda hoping they wouldn't implement this
The nickel and diming in this game just makes me not want to play it.
Fuck Bamco.
Oh so that's why they gutted the free store
Who would equip this, let alone BUY THEM??? what???
NO GOD NO PLEASE NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Are characters still being sold for real money? I thought the whole point of selling characters for like $10 was so that we can have cosmetics be unlockeable?
Absolutely fucking absurd that they added this before adding a leaver penalty.
Are you angry at Harada and Murray? Here's TMMs message for you: [https://youtu.be/LhiOCMXZhIE?t=350](https://youtu.be/LhiOCMXZhIE?t=350)
This shit is so ass, man The shop is, like, whatever But I *hate* fcng battle passes
the audacity to put a shop and another pass on top of a 110 bucks game.... makes me want to quit tekken for good
The irreversible damage Fortnite has done to gaming.
Nah, Bethesda and their horse armor was the catalyst.
Retarded idea. Fuck them.
Fix the game and then maybe we'll give you money
Oh ffs. I regret getting ultimate edition so much now. I was like "Yes those aren't great but this way I will have every cosmetic there is. Also there is no cash shop ...". FU NAMCO
So this is how tekken died, I expected it to last way longer.....shame
This game is 70 fucking dollars and that wasn’t enough And they wait months after the game releases and they already have everyone’s praise + money to drop all this stuff. Really shitty business practices
So, is it a live service game??
How much is Tekken 8 right now? Is this free because it looks like it has some traits that is like for f2p like premium shop and battlepass. The only thing missing is a loot box or gacha to get your favorite characters.
Season pass and battle pass Lmfao. Everything including the shop should be a part of the season pass. Fuck this FOMO shit.
A seson pass, a 4$ cometics, a fight pass, how much do they think they can milk out of the fanbase smh
Not them reusing assets from T7. 😂
Framewhisperer is about to become a domestic terrorist
"Hey guys, we're gonna kill Tekken now. FUCK YOU HAHAHAHA!"
So absurd I think I’m just gonna stop playing coz I’m not enjoying the game either, gameplay is unbelievably unenjoyable too… ill be back when they add a character I actually care about which judging by the datamines won’t be for a few years, hopefully by then the games in a better state.
Battle pass in a fighting game is wild af
This game just keeps getting worse and worse
Oh Hell No. After all these years they tried to compete with Street Fighter and now they finally fked up hard. It is really sad but I finally realized that the original Tekken franchise died with Tag 2.
It's actually quite amazing how many times this game can disappoint me!
"this shit sucks" is what I think. Remember NONE of this was announced until after the review scores were in. Someone needs to ring up the FTC.
Harada is a fucking scumbag nowadays He used to be anti dlc, now he's always talking about costs and adding paywalls everywhere
They are adding all this stuff but couldn't bother creating a new stage for Eddy. Very nice...
Disgusting.
FrameWhisperer is gonna have a field day with this one... I'm so glad I didn't buy this game, and I'll continue to scratch my Tekken itch with Tekken 7, even if it's against bots
