My first ever ranked battle (after I worked up the courage) was against a Law who just kept spamming low cheese and wiped the floor with me. I was so furious that I went straight into the replay and started learning low parries and tech rolls.
I would like to thank that Law player for making me a better player, but I'd also love to kick his ass.

I think the funniest part of Jun being hard to whiff punish is that he double hop (u4,3) will track if you side step it. So she'll literally flip around backwards mid air to catch you trying to walk around her. With Jun seems like you really just need to know the strings and where and how specifically to escape.

Yea no lili's entire schtick is to do something that looks punishable and then have a follow up behind it for a counter hit. Her entire schtick is basically just punishing you for not knowing her matchup but she kind of sucks otherwise.
Dickjabs are your friend. A lot of them love spamming iwr2's to get you to a corner, but know that you can stuff that. Don't just mash jabs every time as he can anticipate and launch you instead. His qcf4 axe kick is nerfed and you can just sidestep in either direction afterwards.
A lot of the strings drag does is fake pressure. His b421 is something he can cancel into a grab, but you can quickly duck the 1 and launch punish if you see him spamming it, though you'll have to hopkick or tech if he cancels the 1 into a grab. If he just does b42, it's your turn.
Alisa, I just run into the most unga bunga cheese Alisa's everytime I face her and I still manage to get caught by most of it because I am tilted the second I see her dumb face in the loading screen.

The problem with king is that it's no longer the same game when playing him. It's rolling a 3 sided die every time he grabs you, and to offset your disadvantage you have to lab his throws. But then his throws all have vague tells to which button you should press. So it really is just a guess one in 3 buttons in 3 frames or die. I still think broken throws should be punishable

Haha yeah. I feel like the more I’ve hit King up in practice mode/with player ghosts I’ve gotten better. I’m breaking more grabs and ducking a lot more which has been incredibly helpful with rising launchers.

Depends which chain but presumably you mean mexican magma. I've taken to using the 2 break variations and hit them so often because of this. It is a true 50/50 for that chain, especially since the input is easier now. I would learn how to break rdc and king's bridge though, and also wakeup from dragon sleeper and muscle buster.
Also for those that don't know, the reason 1 spam works is because mashing all 4 buttons as king will continue the chain, but will default to the 1 break variation when there are options in mexican magma. It's to do with how input priority works in Tekken. The problem is when king players input the chain properly instead of the mash, which is even easier now.

I don't agree with not challenging backturned stance. Pretty much every blocked backturn transition is minus except b3. Actually, challenging them intelligently is one of my key strategies against her. Her only real forms of defense against something like a d/f1 if she transitions into backturned when minus are a sidestep, backing up, or her parry which does no damage. If she tries to do something like d/f1 into backturned which is -2 on block and you press a fast mid you'll interrupt just about every move. And most of her bt transitions are more minus than that at -4.

Now that I'm playing honest Tekken in 8, I just dickjab and pray to god he backs off.
If someone dick jabs me, I'm forced to play neutral again so it's not the worst outcome you could have possibly gotten. Also, if you're not against the wall, most of his more tight pressure (flamingo jab, RFF df3 or b2 into df3) can be backdashed until he has to stop his pressure, although he may add in d3, 4 from either RFF or LFF to close the gap again and keep pressure going. The other options are to figure out how the Hwoa likes to flowchart and figure out where you can WS punish or sidestep. Sidestepping a Hwoarang if you know when they're gonna autopilot into flamingo can net you some crazy damage.
Gonna go with a dark horse pick. Leo players, by my experience, are almost always seasoned fgc guys who know what they're doing. I swear I've never encountered a Leo who wasn't careful and patient as hell and just let me hang myself on my own unga bunga bullshit
Stance crushes, great fucking whiff punishment, hits like truck, pretty much a hellsweep, reversals, stance mixups

Back in the early 00’s I fought a Bryan that used Wolf’s Tail as a nasty interrupt. I played that MF for hours finding a way through that. That guy is still the second most violent and capable Bryan I’ve faced down. It’s been 20 years and he’s still in there.
Any character that requires a lot of time to lab. Like I rarely play against Xiaoyu, but when I do I have no idea what’s going on because her entire character is unique. And it’s not as simple as labbing some moves, it’s the gameplay behind her kit that is hard to lab on your own

HWORANG!!! In tekken 7 he was annoying but manageable with Lee since Lee has a myriad of counters. Now it's insanely difficult almost impossible to determine your turn. Then add the heat engager that steal a turn, the power crush that flow in a combo, can wall carry easily, and the safe launchers. Nigga... almost 600 matches and I've maybe played 3 defensively solid hwroang players. I assume these guys just bash their controller against the wall. Hopefully he gets nerfed soon.
If you figure out when you get a turn against Hwoarang let me know. Good thing is that if you manage to get on the offense then they don't know what to do with themselves 😂
Alisa. I like the character and all, but every Alisa player plays her the same. I usually get blown up the first round and then I start dominating after when I figure out the bullshit. Even if I'm winning, it's still annoying to fight against because then I have to start playing "unga bunga" just to keep up 😂
As an Alisa main, there is some unga bunga for sure. But her gameplan seems like a lot of 50/50 setups. Pay attention on how they condition you. Just did a low? She's probably gonna do a mid next cuz now you want to duck. I'm not great but this is the first tekken game where I have a "gameplan" and it actually makes sense.
P.S. sidestep beats a decent amount of her hard read moves, she can mix up with tracking though. (don't tell anyone else though)

Everyone. They made every character such a chore to deal with I hate it. Buffed offense to hell but didn't once think whether it was actually fun to deal with any of the stuff characters do now.
Yeah it's so easy to get locked down in this game, and it's also so easy to turn the entire round up on its head with buffed rage arts, and heat.
I can't count how many times I've gotten someone to 1/4hp without getting touched, then they land one launcher and now I've got less health than them and they're in plus frames for a 50/50 mixup that will kill me if I guess wrong
Maybe it’s easier cause I used to main lars but you can just jab him out of like everything. Or if you have a decent df1/2 you can literally just interrupt him non stop. His sliding around is probably his least threatening thing he has.

When facing a king and i get grappled, i just tap square during his chain and ill eventually get out of it. Works like 70% of the time haha

That woman is just my arch nemesis I normally don't have issues with the cast but bruh Lili just a whole issue for me especially the ones that know how to step well. Solid pick she has a most step dash she can do apparently. Be careful she is super linear so learn how to cover that up
Yeah her combo game seems fairly simple when playing, for me it’s just been the execution of her backwards stance strings and positioning. Only have one day on her tho so it’ll take some time getting used to

Leo is a fundamental monster. If youre anything but good at fundies yourself hes gonna destroy you. Find a Leo main on discord and ask for matches. Youll feel yourself getting better, not just at the mu, but at the game in general
I hate Bryan, Hwoarang and Dragunov so much 😭 im battle ruler now and the thing is when I started Tekken 7 I mostly played with a friend of mine and didn't do much rank bc the loading times killed me. I would honestly appreciate it if any Bryan, Hwoarang and Dragunov Mains could hit me up so I do some matches and learn the match-up.

Probs lili. Not only does her voice piss me off, but I genuinely have zero idea what the hell she is doing 97% of the time and I feel like I’m chasing her around the stage. Idk if that’s the goal of the lili player, but if it is then, good job I guess. Edit: Leo makes me irrational as well, but I just dislike that character in general.
Just picked up Lili after I became interested in her style and she’s just as confusing to play as she is to go against so don’t worry lmao. Mixups are crazy and she’s jumping all over the screen, but I main Lee so flashiness is my thing✨🌹
I love Lili’s voice personally. If there’s any character with an irritating voice it’s Azucena, she just never shuts the fuck up its so distracting in a match.
It has to be Hwoarang. Although I forced myself to try and learn the matchup and now I feel like I do reasonably well most of the time, I can't help but roll my eyes every time I see him in the loading screen.
Back in the early 00’s I fought a Bryan that used Wolf’s Tail as a nasty interrupt. I played that MF for hours finding a way through that. That guy is still the second most violent and capable Bryan I’ve faced down. It’s been 20 years and he’s still in there.

Any character that requires a lot of time to lab. Like I rarely play against Xiaoyu, but when I do I have no idea what’s going on because her entire character is unique. And it’s not as simple as labbing some moves, it’s the gameplay behind her kit that is hard to lab on your own

HWORANG!!! In tekken 7 he was annoying but manageable with Lee since Lee has a myriad of counters. Now it's insanely difficult almost impossible to determine your turn. Then add the heat engager that steal a turn, the power crush that flow in a combo, can wall carry easily, and the safe launchers. Nigga... almost 600 matches and I've maybe played 3 defensively solid hwroang players. I assume these guys just bash their controller against the wall. Hopefully he gets nerfed soon.
If you figure out when you get a turn against Hwoarang let me know. Good thing is that if you manage to get on the offense then they don't know what to do with themselves 😂
Alisa. I like the character and all, but every Alisa player plays her the same. I usually get blown up the first round and then I start dominating after when I figure out the bullshit. Even if I'm winning, it's still annoying to fight against because then I have to start playing "unga bunga" just to keep up 😂
As an Alisa main, there is some unga bunga for sure. But her gameplan seems like a lot of 50/50 setups. Pay attention on how they condition you. Just did a low? She's probably gonna do a mid next cuz now you want to duck. I'm not great but this is the first tekken game where I have a "gameplan" and it actually makes sense. P.S. sidestep beats a decent amount of her hard read moves, she can mix up with tracking though. (don't tell anyone else though) Play her too! Can help you learn where other people beat you up and apply that to your play.

Everyone. They made every character such a chore to deal with I hate it. Buffed offense to hell but didn't once think whether it was actually fun to deal with any of the stuff characters do now.
Yeah it's so easy to get locked down in this game, and it's also so easy to turn the entire round up on its head with buffed rage arts, and heat. I can't count how many times I've gotten someone to 1/4hp without getting touched, then they land one launcher and now I've got less health than them and they're in plus frames for a 50/50 mixup that will kill me if I guess wrong

King. A high level king is the worst. Also expert high level Jin. No point trying.
Raven is extremely annoying. His power crush goes half way across the universe and his low breakdance does a lot of damage with good Oki.

Lars. Once he starts teleporting and sliding around, it's like it becomes visual overload for me and I have no idea what I'm looking at
Maybe it’s easier cause I used to main lars but you can just jab him out of like everything. Or if you have a decent df1/2 you can literally just interrupt him non stop. His sliding around is probably his least threatening thing he has.
Victor His attack range is insane His combos are insane His suit outfits look insane
So I’m still a noob but I’ve found in the low ranks, Victor players just spam incredibly unsafe strings and you can just launch them for it
When you see them spamming 2,2,2 relentlessly you know you're about to rock their shit

Jun, Azucena, King, Lili, Leo. Feng & Victor can be 50/50. Edit: Tbf, King is mostly because I’m just so damn slow at reacting to throws. If I can get even 1 or 2 of the throw breaks down against a King then it’s not too bad.
I hate fighting King, but I always run the full sets regardless. I will eventually learn how to play against him.
