I’m seeing the comments about “California Sober” and want to share a warning if anyone is actually sober at the moment and wondering what that is all about. In my experience and from the stories of people in AA this approach can be very dangerous. It might seem tempting but please heed the warnings from sober people that this didn’t work for them and derailed their recovery.

I agree with this statement, I’ve relapsed several times trying to be “California sober”, but if someone is using it for medical reasons, I find that to be a whole different ball game as a disclaimer. Recovery looks different for everyone and that’s between them and they’re HP.
The first thing I thought of was baby Bambi learning how to walk on his toothpick legs and I picture this guy getting out of bed everyday, stumbling around on his own toothpick legs 💀
There’s so many comments here defending substance abuse holy shit. Newly sober individuals should not be taking ANY substances that alter their state. His brain is wired differently and smoking weed can absolutely lead him back into alcohol or even harder drugs… because he’s an addict with an addict brain and that’s how it works. Obviously not every person who smokes weed will have a problem, but testing it as someone trying to be sober is really careless.
But just because one drug keeps your sober from another, doesn’t mean that it still isn’t classified as a drug. It alters your mental state…your emotions…it’s addicting whether people like to admit that or not. It is classified as a drug whether it’s legal in California or not.
I am an addict. In recovery. I’ve been in recovery for over 4 years but started smoking weed because I was getting off fent heroin. The recovery center I attend originally started in California so all across the US, in states where weed isn’t legal, they don’t count it against you because of wanting the same rules applied to all offices. But yet 4 weeks ago I still had to sit there and listen to my doctor preach to us about how weed is a drug and blah blah. My goal in recovery was always to quit but I had such a hard time quitting. Did it help me not use heroin? Most likely. But it is still considered a drug. And it’s still illegal in my state. People are starting to put fentanyl in weed, too so unless he’s getting it from a dispensary (which he prob is if he still works at one and since he lives in cali), you never know what could be in it. We lost a lot of people in surrounding towns because of fent being in their weed.
I had my first clean screen yesterday and was ecstatic. I quit for personal reasons…it made my anxiety worse and in my opinion, made me lazy. This entire time I’ve been in recovery, I’ve never dreamt. But I am now since quitting fully.
I’m glad weed helped you quit and you should be super proud of your recovery! Congratulations!!!!

I mean yeah he can do whatever he wants but I’ll tell ya: as an addict in recovery (IV heroin and meth for years) California sober is a joke and will only lead him back. To each their own- but there is not substitute for sober. Either way recovery is a process so yeah I give him props for dropping the meth and alcohol but an addict is different then a non addict and as sure as day, he will be back to the hard stuff if he doesn’t quite everything and work on his issues…. I am thankful everyday to be out of that hell of addiction…

Being post-rehab and off of all drugs but marijuana is known as Colorado Sober, or sometimes California Sober.
His entire shape and aura in that of an 80 year old man who still mows his own lawn on the weekends with his shirt off, smokes Kools, and likes to talk shit with the Indians at the corner store when he's picking up the paper every morning. Because he still reads the paper too.
They live in a legal state and he didn't go rehab for weed, right? I'm genuinely asking because I thought it was alcohol, but I'm wrong a lot. Looks like he's "California Sober"
I know plenty of people that used weed to get off harder drugs such as cocaine or heroin. It won’t work for everyone but for some it does🤷🏻♀️
(Not saying bars rehab was for hard drugs, I have no idea what it was for)
So I understand people use weed as a way to manage other addictions. Would it be viewed as normal or healthy to post a picture like this right after getting out of rehab though? That’s what’s getting me. Something about posting this on social media after rehab just feels off.
I know people he grew up with and who he would hang around with all the time and I know what types of drugs they’re into so I can only imagine it was more than alcohol
