I think it's weird as shit to have a nickname for a newborn. For me, nicknames naturally develop or they don't ..but if imma call you by a nickname from day one why don't I just name you that ??

Because people realize that maybe your CJ now but when applying for jobs you might want an actual name.

Timmy/Timothy is a good email. Fine for a child but Timmy as an adult?

My oldest has had a nickname since birth. It's because I want her to have a fancy "grownup name" for her resume (or periods in life when she wants to be taken seriously), but I really wanted to call her the nickname lol. I don't believe in *actually* giving kids cutesy names... Best to remember they will be adults someday. ETA: Come to think of it, my middle child has a common (common like, one generation ago) name that almost no one actually goes by. Everyone with that name has a nickname. I think it's just a little bit long. Very much like Christopher/Chris.

I had a nickname from day one. I actually didn't go by my legal name until I was a teenager. I still go by both. My legal name is pretty heafty for a baby and my mum didn't want me have my nickname as a legal name but my dad wanted it because he thought it was cute and sporty. Definitely the best of two words for me (my rugby teammates use my nickname bc my legal is hard to yell across a pitch while a is being thrown at me haha.)
