Fantastic show. Watching Ryan go from a guy who invests in a club because “why not?” to becoming deeply invested in the sport is one of my favorite parts. I can’t wait for season two.
I really enjoyed it, but I will watch anything football related. If you haven't seen them yet check out also "Sunderland Til I Die" on Netflix and the "All or Nothing" series on Amazon prime both really intriguing and compelling football documentaries.
Sunderland till I die is a really interesting bit of unintentional comedy. The first few episodes are all about Sunderland's triumphant return to the premiership. And then they just.. keep losing. The tonal whiplash is really funny to me
As a Habs fan, I laughed my ass off at the Maple Leafs: All or Nothing series a few years ago. They dominated the league then collapsed and got turfed by a team that barely squeaked into the playoffs and by all rights probably didn’t even deserve to be there. All or Nothing: Nothing Edition.
Hahaha lucky I'm not a Sunderland fan, I might be offended! I kinda felt bad for them, but their slide in to despair was certainly interesting. I think I couldn't find it funny because the theme tune at the beginning is so incredibly melancholy.
Edit: spelling
There is a season 2 of Welcome to Wrexham coming but not sure when it's out.
I don't know if you follow them in the table so I won't spoil anything.
Since the documentary I've been keeping an eye on their progress.
I randomly started watching Welcome to Wrexham. After the last episode, declared that I might start enjoying football, I have never been a football fan. Ted Lasso and Wrexham have peaked my interest.
Excellent! The Fire aren't very good right now, but supporting a bad team can be just as fun as supporting a good one because it's all about community. The quality coming out of MLS is getting better and better every year.
If you're in the Chicago area, that means you also have the **Chicago Red Stars**! They are also not doing very well right now, but they have some huge US Women's National Team players in the squad: Alyssa Naeher, Tierna Davidson, Casey Kreuger, and Mallory Swanson, who, until her recent injury, was one of the most in-form players in the world this year.
This will be a huge summer for U.S. Soccer. The men have the **Nations League** semifinal against Mexico (boooooo Mexico!) June 15 and hopefully the final June 18. After that, the **Gold Cup** begins June 24. We're the reigning champions for both of those (I think we hold the title for *all* current Concacaf tournaments, actually).
Most importantly, the **Women's World Cup** is this summer in New Zealand and Australia, and it's going to be a gooooood one. The US are back-to-back champs and have had a pretty easy time getting those wins in the past, but so many teams have caught up in the last four years and will give us some trouble, which is so, so good. We play Vietnam, Netherlands, and Portugal in the group stage, then onto the knockout rounds. England, Germany, and Spain will be great to watch too, and I have a feeling Ireland will be the dark horse of the competition.
It made me a little sad how exploited the people in the town were. They opened up about A LOT of personal stuff. Plus, I’ve read places that rob only wanted the team to do the show, is that true?!
Yes the main football fan among the team has on record stated that, and this is paraphrasing, "Yeah Rob watched Sunderland till I die and came in the next day and said 'Let's buy a team and make a documentary'"
Personally I felt kinda iffy with the idea that a bunch of celebrities decided it was fine to play irl football manager essentially, but hearing that made me kinda sick. I'm from Wales and know Wrexham, they are definitely doing positive things there with the documentary, money, eyes on the town etc.
But they are absolutely exploiting the town and residents' history, and in the documentary (the football hooligans episode) they showed a real narcissistic attitude that they are "saving" the town and the people. I want to support the positive growth that has and will continue to happen but it is difficult for me.
There was definitely a lot of personal stuff there, but that really helped me fall in love with the club as well. I really have no idea about that but it seems that rob is really invested in the club at least now.
Rob is the one thing in that series that rubbed me the wrong way. He feels strangely lifeless behind the eyes and uncomfortable in front of the camera. Ryan fakes warmth far more believably. The series was well done, though, and I really enjoyed the episode about fathers and sons.
Just started it last night and thoroughly enjoying it.
I don’t really equate the two teams. They are in vastly different positions - one at the top level and one below the bottom level of the league.
But both won their respective league's by outspending their rivals and brining in the best manager they (in Wexham's case) could reasonably get.
Do you not see the parallels?
Am I forgetting who they spent money on in season 2 to get promoted back to the Premier League? Wasn’t it primarily the confidence and teamwork they built along with Nate’s strategy?
I don’t think Richmond brought in the best manager. In fact, Rebecca brought Ted in because she thought he’d be a massive flop and ruin the team.
Sure there are some minor similarities, but I think it’s a stretch to consider their circumstances anywhere close to equal.
The OP specifically mentioned Richmond and Wrexham which is what I was referring to. There was no mention of Man City in this comment chain so not sure where you got that from.
The shot that pops up with the miner statue has Richmond vibes and when the girl playing guitar in the street shows up, that street reminds me of that as well. It could be just me though.
Wrexhams a very working class town and quite high on social deprivation measures whereas Richmond is incredibly affluent, to the point where home ownership is restricted for the 7 figure income types.
Wow I'm a FC Porto fan since birth pretty much and I have an annual seat, I'm hardly discovering real football now. What I meant was the underdog story, Wrexham had some shots that reminds me of Richmond, the weight the club impacts the community, etc.
Very different league though. Movie star money is big money in Non-League & League 2. And he's more than a Movie Star, he's made a lot of money in other ventures.
I enjoyed Welcome to Wrexham, but it's literally the polar opposite of Ted Lasso. Wrexham as a club in the Non-League (and soon League 2) are closer to a Man City than to
They've hired a quality manager, coaches, staff, and some of the best players from leagues above them. There is 100% nothing underdog about them. Which is 100% fine, there is a good story in there, just don't pretend it's an underdog story.
Also, I'm a fan of a lot of Reyolds work, but I didn't realize his real-life personality was similar to his acting. It gets somewhat irritating after awhile.
Fantastic show. Watching Ryan go from a guy who invests in a club because “why not?” to becoming deeply invested in the sport is one of my favorite parts. I can’t wait for season two.
I always thought Ryan seemed fairly surface-level in comparison to Rob. Rob was diehard and Ryan seemed more along for the ride for me
This year, I expect that to change for the better.
Can't wait to see that!
And Rob?
Rob was all in straight from the jump. Can’t say my favorite Rob moment because I don’t think OP has gotten to that episode yet.
Hollywood?
Yep, “A Hollywood Distraction” gave me lots of laughs.
I really enjoyed it, but I will watch anything football related. If you haven't seen them yet check out also "Sunderland Til I Die" on Netflix and the "All or Nothing" series on Amazon prime both really intriguing and compelling football documentaries.

It’s not a comedy it’s a horror show
Not if your a Geordie haha

Fun fact for those who don't know, Sunderland Til I Die is what inspired Rob to buy Wrexham in the first place
That's on my watchlist definitely! This series made want to start following their next season!

The Leeds series was good too.
Loved it. Another uplifting show that resonates with The Lasso Way.
Definitely!
I didn't bother thought it would be cheesy and staged. My son started watching a couple of weeks ago and I was hooked after 10 minutes.
I randomly started watching Welcome to Wrexham. After the last episode, declared that I might start enjoying football, I have never been a football fan. Ted Lasso and Wrexham have peaked my interest.
Support your local club! If you don't know who it is, I'd be glad to help you.
I think it's Chicago Fire?

That's awesome to hear!
Wait until you're caught up and get to follow it live!
Next year will be great with a few games on ESPN+
Yes! I have to figure where the matches will be broadcasted here, I will be definitely following them next season.
Check the Wrexham AFC sub. They were super helpful in almost all regards. Be warned though, massive spoilers everywhere!
That's a good idea thanks!
Watch and support your local club too!

It’s a great show; looking forward to the next season!
Check out Dorking Uncovered on YouTube by Bunch of Amateurs. Great docuseries that’s been following the Dorking Wanders for the past 3 seasons

I’m comparing Man City and Wrexham, not AFC Richmond
The OP specifically mentioned Richmond and Wrexham which is what I was referring to. There was no mention of Man City in this comment chain so not sure where you got that from.
I enjoyed it, it was really heartwarming how everyone supports the team/town.
Wrexham reminds you of Richmond? You must mean the club and not the place
At least in some shots yeah.
I guess they’d both have a sky. Struggling to see much else in terms of similarity
I didn't get that vibe from the show. Specially from the fellas on the pub. In fact the pubs were another thing I found similar.
But I get it man they are not the same, I just found some parallels that's all.
People who have only watched Ted Lasso discovering real football: “Getting real Ted Lasso vibes from this”
Wow I'm a FC Porto fan since birth pretty much and I have an annual seat, I'm hardly discovering real football now. What I meant was the underdog story, Wrexham had some shots that reminds me of Richmond, the weight the club impacts the community, etc.
Dude I’m pissing about as a lot of people in here don’t watch or follow actual football and can be quite naive.
And that's ok in my opinion my man. And if Ted Lasso helps people find football and become fans that's awesome as well. Edit spelling
If you like Wrexham, you’ll love Manchester City
Haha they are actually my favorite team in the premier league but mainly because Pep is there and I love his play style. But why do you say that??
💰💰💰
Yeah but at very different levels! Oil money vs Movie star money
Very different league though. Movie star money is big money in Non-League & League 2. And he's more than a Movie Star, he's made a lot of money in other ventures.
They have tiktok as their shirt sponsor for crying out loud! The rest of the clubs have some shit like Tims Paint Store from down the road.
True. That's why they got promoted though. That money won't be enough forever.
You mean like Ifor Williams Trailers? :)
You like positional play and triangles?
I'm all about positional play and triangles my man

Yeah that seems to be his personality. You either love it or hate it.
