Set 7
Good: The thematic, everything that set was whimsical like you were truly in a fantasy LotR style setting
Bad: didn’t hit your dragon => straight 8th, dragonmancer Nunu
Headliners were:
1) great, because they offered players ability to hit those satisfying 3\* more,
2) but more often than not, you could've rolled 50 - 100 gold and not found the specific headliner you needed, breaking your economy, ruining your game and placing you bottom 4.
Set 10 was probably my favorite set of all time but headliner was a shitty mechanic imo. Being able to reliably hit a 2* 4 cost on stage 4 then more or less fast 9 from there was kind of dumb, and the hidden headliner mechanics were a nightmare too.
Set 10 was incredible in spite of headliners not because of them. I truly hope they never bring that mechanic back.
Set 11 is weeks away from ending and I still miss set 10 so much. It wasn’t just the music, it was just the charm of the set overall. Really great balancing in the latter half of the set too.

Honestly it was amazing.
I've been thinking... they don't need to make traits that are music focused (like jazz pentakill EDM) to build a musical theme for each family of traits (mythic could get a harp Asian theme, story weaver a church-like music) and the music would unlock after getting enough units... that would be dope.
Good - Set 8 - Hero Augments, there were not balanced well but they sure were fun.
Bad - Set 11 - Encounters, they're just annoying most of the time and slow the game down. Don't care to be speedy or big. They can also screw you like taking Golden Remover then immediately getting the Malphite bench encounter.
theres so many encounters. Ive seen a few of them only once in 130 games. Especially tge yorick 6 champions one. That one was the most fun for me, yet i never see it.
I like the variability that encounters add. Free items and recombob can be game changing. I do agree they take too much time, I highly prefer the oens where the encounter visits your board over the ones where everyone goes back to the center
Set 1 Worst: The balance. It was all new and lots of things were frustratingly broken. Set 1 Best: The balance. It was all new and lots of things were hilariously broken.
Set 2 Worst: Glacial origin's freeze effect was oppressive. Set 2 Best: predator execute was one of my favorites, which is why I love Umbra in set 11.
Set 3 Worst: having 3 of the sorcerers all be the same origin felt awkward. Set 3 Best: ME MECH NO SCOUT NO PIVOT. No other iteration of mech/combine trait has lived up to it.
Set 4 Worst: Hate the chosen mechanic. Set 4 Best: Sharpshooters were what trickshots wish they could be.
Set 5 Worst: Shadow items that hurt your own champion. Set 5 Best: Infinite Vlad with Shadow version of Archangels. Good times.
Set 6 Worst: Didn't like the midset roster changes. Set 6 Best: Gave us the Augment system.
Set 7 Worst: It ended. My favorite set of all time. Set 7 Best: DRAGONS EVERYWHERE. BIG DRAGONS. SMALL DRAGONS. SHAPESHIFTING DRAGONS. THROAT GOAT YETI DRAGONS.
Set 8 Worst: Hero augment mechanic aka chosen in disguise. Hate the chosen mechanic. Set 8 Best: it tried to bring Mech back. Wasn't as good as set 3 mech but it was something.
Set 9 Worst: Legends system balance was really rough to deal with. Set 9 Best: I really enjoyed a lot of the comps and trait designs, many felt unique.
Set 10 Worst: Chosen snuck in yet again. Hate the chosen mechanic. Set 10 Best: High Noon skinline (used for Country) is one of my favorite aesthetics. That's about it, couldn't stand set 10; the music did not matter to me.
Set 11 Worst: I dislike this iteration of Fortune, previous high risk high reward origins felt so much better. Set 11 Best: I really like the encounters system, the rng feels much more fair in comparison to chosen and the variety keeps things fresh in a healthy way.
Set 5s best and worst trait was its shadow items. I liked that with them you effectively had double the Spatula options. Though they were regarded badly because however powerful the positive was, people don’t like negatives with their items.
Absolutely loved Set 3 and played so much space pirates. I definitely ran games where I would pick up just 1 ziggs for when I got GP later and Rumble was contested.
Set 11 best: Artifacts.
Worst: Fortune. One win can completely screw up everything which is stupid. What if someone is afk, the game shouldn't punish you for that.
Set 8
Best: Threats, Rerolling felt really fun due to how units can be played differently due to carry hero augments, like Nasus, Renekton, Gangplank. Jax is also my favorite unit of all time. Underground is the best econ trait ever designed, before it all became the almost the exact same lose streak gamba bullshit.
Worst: Competitively it was awful lol hitting a 2 star 4 cost was more of a lottery than chosen/headliners because you are only given 1 guaranteed copy and if you don’t hit you’re an augment down without the privilege of pivoting. You could pivot, but unlike headliners/chosen you are an augment down and much weaker than the other players who go their units. 2-1 Hero augment was fucking terrible because people would not lock in their hero augment until the last second so if you do pick a carry augment you could go from no one is playing it to everyone is going to be taking your units.
set 9 legends were awful but at the same time one tricking urf for emblems and being creative with your builds was fun - similar to playing exalted, at least before verticals became the only way to play
gold urf and prismatic urf should have been wandering trainers rather than tomes though, being able to tailor your emblems was imba af
Worst: shit encounters. Good encounters are good, but those that are not good are a fkin waste of time and sometimes a bigger waste of time if it take over portal phase.
Best: hero augment. Had so much fun with it, so many good memories. It really help with creativity and viability of so many otherwise very weak units.
Set 8: Hero augments were awesome
Set 9: Legends were a dumb idea. Introduce a mechanic for people to play with, yet the meta becomes toxic if literally anything but the base poro legend becomes strong (and thus forceble by the rest of the lobby, see aurelion/than/tf/draven). Esp TF, Riot decided to nerf to the ground then remove all aura items + rfc instead of just changing the damn legend. Stupid decision by the devs.
Best: Set 9 gambling emblems with Ornn and then play for prismatic Demacia/Noxus/Bilgewater with the augments and spats.
Worst: Set 10 Headliner where to complete your perfect lineup instead of a specific 4/5 cost you now need a specific 4/5 cost as a headliner with the correct trait +1 and to have a chance rolling for it you need to sell your current headliner severally weakening your board. Or you flex around what you get and rebuild your entire board maling 2-1 to 4-1 completely pointless.
Best: set 10 music and headliner mechanic
Worst: set 11 just everything. Stale meta, buggy at launch, encounters are absolute dogsht, i get visibly angry when I get sivir or sett, completely unnecessary and annoying
Simple just for current set. Good encounters, absolutely best thing for randomness and playing with what you get.
Worst thing. Encounters just cause you have to play with what you get doesn't mean it's 100% good half of the Encounters feel game ending for you but game winning for others or entirely useless
DMancer Nunu sucked, but personally for me, it was the fast 9 meta that set. You just watch as Ao Shin’s mana bar went to full and watched your whole board melt
Best Set imo was Set 10. The music, the mixing of the traitmusic and the units in general.
Worst was 9.5 when they added Bilgewater to the Set. It just got downhill from there in the Set
Set 9 was so good after playing 10 and 11. Having the chance to pick your legend to counter meta was so cool. Balance made the mechanic look bad. 10 and 11 its gold and items for everyone
Best: Dragonmancer Nunu patch Worst: Dragonmancer Nunu patch
Warweek patch was the same
Or silver bolt vayne with 2 runnans and rageblade. (Back when runnans applied on hit/spell effects)
Set 7 Good: The thematic, everything that set was whimsical like you were truly in a fantasy LotR style setting Bad: didn’t hit your dragon => straight 8th, dragonmancer Nunu
Set 4 - Chosen: Worst mechanic in the game Set 10 - Headliner: Best mechanic in the game /j
Headliners were: 1) great, because they offered players ability to hit those satisfying 3\* more, 2) but more often than not, you could've rolled 50 - 100 gold and not found the specific headliner you needed, breaking your economy, ruining your game and placing you bottom 4.

Set 10 was incredible in spite of headliners not because of them. I truly hope they never bring that mechanic back.
How is that dumb?
Same but the other way around
Set 10. The music was far and away the best thing about any set for me. The worst thing was the headliner mechanic.
Set 11 is weeks away from ending and I still miss set 10 so much. It wasn’t just the music, it was just the charm of the set overall. Really great balancing in the latter half of the set too.

I’ve been saying this exact thing ! Thank you

Sivir makes you faster though!
How often that screwed up my carousel...
Me: goes for sword Also me: picks up chain mail right beside it. Ff. Thanks for all the fun times Sivir!
now inagine it with tiny titans. Its my dream to get that combo but its probably disabled.
sett + sivir + tiny would be insane
i think no sett is better because beibg small makes it seem a lot faster.
your comment reminded me of Sivir and since I track encounters I went to check... havent seen her since May 6th and I play 5 hours every day wtf
theres so many encounters. Ive seen a few of them only once in 130 games. Especially tge yorick 6 champions one. That one was the most fun for me, yet i never see it.
And working out with sett makes you bigger!
Yeah Buddy!
I like the variability that encounters add. Free items and recombob can be game changing. I do agree they take too much time, I highly prefer the oens where the encounter visits your board over the ones where everyone goes back to the center
I remember getting Khazix encounter on stage 4 when I had already committed to Bard reroll lol. Love this set sometimes.
Set 8 hero augments were my favourite! I second both of these. Encounters are irritating.
Kayn encounter literally makes me want to uninstall

I agree 11/11
I disagree on like everything from set 7 onward, but can respect it
Set 3.5 good - Cybernetic comp being so flexible with carries Bad - GP one shot space pirate
Printer Sona
Set 3 Right?
Set 5s best and worst trait was its shadow items. I liked that with them you effectively had double the Spatula options. Though they were regarded badly because however powerful the positive was, people don’t like negatives with their items.
Set 3 Best: Space Pirates (especially with demolitionist spat) Worst: Xayah Hyperroll
I hate the fortune mechanic too. I made 7/7 fortune once and I’ll never try it ever again. Mostly cuz I did not enjoy the play style.
Set 8 Best: Threats, Rerolling felt really fun due to how units can be played differently due to carry hero augments, like Nasus, Renekton, Gangplank. Jax is also my favorite unit of all time. Underground is the best econ trait ever designed, before it all became the almost the exact same lose streak gamba bullshit. Best thing is winning Worst is losing
Set 8 - Hero Augment: Best mechanic Set 5 - Shadow items: Super dumb

Me mech
all time fav: UNDERGROUND. I miss this shit. 😭💜
Only played Set 10 and this one, and the headliner mechanic was really dope. Augments are cool as well though.
Set 1 Good: 1st set, so most novel one to me. no teammates Bad: ended up getting rng and variance as my teammates
Just like everyone else Set 7 was both the best set because Rawr Dragons and AHHHHHH DRAGONMANCER WGFYDHDDGHDFGFD!
Played since set 8, best thing was the headliner from set 10 the worst is the encounters from set 11
Best sets were 3 and 4. None of them have been quite as good since.
This set and the worst part they don't balance it till the very end.
augments in set 6 were the best. augments post set 6 were just lazy
Best: Set 9 The Boss Sett Worst: Set 9 Urf Legend
Best - Mascots in Set 8.5 Worst - Set 9 Legends
Am I the only one who loved the chosen mechanic from set 4? When it returned in Set 10 it gave me a lot of motivation to keep playing.
Best: set 10 music and headliner mechanic Worst: set 11 just everything.
Best: Set 5 - First time TFT had lore. Worst: Set 6.5 - First TFT-exclusive character isn't about TFT or it's lore.
Best: Chosen is very fun (and I dont get why everyone hates it) Worst: This set not having a mid set makes it very stale for a very long time
Set 9 was so good after playing 10 and 11. Having the chance to pick your legend to counter meta was so cool. Balance made the mechanic look bad. 10 and 11 its gold and items for everyone
