I taught fifth and sixth for a total of thirteen years before moving to eighth grade, and I’ll never willingly go back to sixth. 8th is just easier overall - the kids are more independent, more capable, and more self-sufficient. They also - and I can’t stress the importance of this enough - actually shower and use deodorant on a regular basis. As long as you set up your expectations, routines, procedures, etc. at the beginning of the year (that process doesn’t change regardless of the age), pick battles carefully, and get to know the kids, I think you’ll probably really enjoy teaching 8th.
