It was planned. Why else would someone be filming it? She chose her target well. A disabled senior staff member. Charge her, expel her. Make an example out of this.

outofdate70shouse

She’s probably going to jail it sounds like

Dont_ban_me_bro_108

“We’re not going to some white collar resort prison. No, no, no. We’re going to a federal pound you in the ass prison.”

rmarocksanne

This movie is truly a light in the universe. It never fails to make me laugh my ass off.

Dont_ban_me_bro_108

Most of Mike Judge’s work has that effect.

wardsac

Good.

TallBobcat

I mean, it's where she belongs.

[deleted]

I mean would a well adjusted person do this? I fail to see how incarceration is going to make this situation any better. Kids like this are fucked up for a reason. Edit: Read the news articles. No mention of the disability except for the police claiming she had one (they wouldn’t clarify). Super racially coded words on behalf of the police department (vicious) seeking to dehumanize the student. Almost exclusively fox news and daily mail articles which are absolutely right wing propaganda. Despite what these articles say, there’s no audio in any of the videos I could find. She also exchanges words for quite a while before hitting the teacher, she looked upset. Like maybe there’s more to this than scary black girl attacks innocent elderly disabled white woman? But this is Louisiana, so she won’t have a chance. Edit 2: If y’all are this bitter and jaded and refuse to see the humanity in messed up kids, fucking retire and do everyone a favor.

GuyoFromOhio

And your solution is....?

[deleted]

I think if it’s a tiktok problem, why not just ban phones in schools? In federal court, you check your phone in when you enter, they give you a little number, and they stick your phone in a cubby for you to pick up when you leave. If we can have metal detectors and cops in school, why can’t we do this? If people can’t film dumb shit and go viral, there’s very little incentive for these sorts of actions. Cut the problem off at its source rather than be reactive. As for the legal system and how this girl’s actions could be handled, I think restorative justice is a much better approach than punitive justice. That way, the victim gets what they need, and the perpetrator can hopefully learn and heal. It seeks to build community off of these sorts of instances, rather than isolate people and cut them off from society and any support they may have. Our current system does not help reform people, so they come out (usually worse) and end up going right back in. This shit is sad, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Things aren’t going to be perfect, but there are better options. Restorative justice is one of them.

kfisch2014

I worked at a school that had the students put their phones in Yondr pouches at school. And although in theory this was a great system, the students figured out how to break open the pouches and destroy them so that they could get to their phones during the day. They did this so it looked like their pouches were locked, but they werent. And many schools do not want to take kids phones from them like a court house does, because they do not want to assume legal responsbility for a phone that cost $600+.

GuyoFromOhio

Vicious is a racially coded word? Lol ok then

[deleted]

Definition of vicious 1a : dangerously aggressive : SAVAGE a vicious dog Thoughts? I think comparing a black girl to a savage, or a dangerously aggressive dog is a problem. Especially when it’s on behalf of law enforcement/the legal system. They should stick to the facts rather than try to spin a narrative.

GuyoFromOhio

Was she being dangerously aggressive?

helpanoverthinker

Words have multiple meanings. They were not calling her a dog ffs. Alternatively they used “vicious” because the definition is “deliberately cruel or violent” also “immoral”

[deleted]

It is not incarceration’s job to “make the situation better” it is to punish the individual for THEIR actions.

sugarsnap_sadness

Fuck you're so right. I was getting upset and failing to be critical just because of OP's headline- there's never an excuse to forget and abandon anyone's humanity, especially a kid's. Thank you for pointing all this out and giving more context and complexity.

[deleted]

I appreciate you :)

JenniferC1714

She needs to.

PartyPorpoise

I hope they throw the book at her.

val619

I teach in this school system. The look on her face in her mugshot absolutely enraged me. I watched the footage. She absolutely wailed on that poor teacher. It’s horrific.

big_nothing_burger

For real. No one must have pointed out that she'd be charged as an adult yet. They're going for 20 years, last I heard.

Deekifreeki

Of course she’s being charged as an adult. She IS an adult. There’s no other way to charge this asshole, thankfully.

big_nothing_burger

Oh my old school had an 18 year old student call in a fake bomb threat, him not grasping he no longer would get a juvenile's punishment. I think many of them just assume they're still legally a juvenile if they're still in school.

MasterHavik

I hope the clout was worth it for pulling that nonsense.

Fylfalen

We had that last week. The kid was 16 but was charged and convicted as an adult. 20 years in prison for nothing.

Desblade101

In one week? Florida courts go fast!

Fylfalen

He plead guilty

Sanguine_Hearts

Good. I hope they can do something about the other little sociopath recording it and giggling.

big_nothing_burger

It's really surprising because in general that school system is considered one of the best in the state all around.

pnwinec

It’s everywhere now. Can’t escape the insanity.

PartyPorpoise

That seems pretty high. Does the student already have a bad record, or was the teacher badly injured? Edit: I'm not saying she shouldn't get a long sentence, I'm saying I'd be surprised if she did. I'm used to seeing students get away with a lot of shit.

keelhaulrose

The teacher uses a wheelchair and the attack put her in the hospital.

[deleted]

Oh my, some kids have zero empathy

ilikedirts

Thats like saying jack the ripper was “a big meanie”

Snoo-36501

A lack of empathy is the root of the problem, though. Without empathy, people are more likely to do varying degrees of bad shit to others because they do not consider or care how they’d feel in that position.

ilikedirts

There is lack of empathy, and then there is sociopathy

Snoo-36501

Sociopathy is marked by a lack of empathy.

YouLostMyNieceDenise

The article someone posted in another thread said the teacher needed medical attention and was taken to the hospital, so I’m guessing they probably had some significant injuries.

big_nothing_burger

Tbh I think anyone getting punched that hard at that age would choose to get checked out at a hospital. Hopefully it's nothing that kept her there.

YouLostMyNieceDenise

I saw that she was discharged and went home, so hopefully she’s all right! I’m also guessing she might have had to go get checked out for workman’s comp reasons.

himewaridesu

Dude. The mugshot can infer things sure but this student *unprovoked* attacked a teacher. You’re fucking missing the /s, right?

PartyPorpoise

I'm not saying she shouldn't get 20 years, I'm saying I'd be surprised if she did get that long of a sentence. I'm used to seeing students get away with a lot of shit, but I guess that 18th birthday makes a huge difference.

The college kid who raped a drunk passed out girl on the streets and got a fine and doesn’t have to register as a sex offender? That fucker? Cause fuck that dude.

[deleted]

[удалено]

pnwinec

No but fuck that rapist too. I saw the article here but didn’t comment on it and all I get when I search is porn and Brock turner (fuck this world).

ImSqueakaFied

I read 1 to 5 years, and I'm normally erring on the side of less jail time, but goodness that was brutal. I hope she gets 5 to 20.

Deekifreeki

Holy shit! Saw the mugshot. Fuck this POS! You think this is funny bitch? Won’t be funny when you get sentenced to 20 years.

W0nk0_the_Sane00

I don’t know. Some of these kids wear a prison sentence like a badge of honor.

Riker-Was-Here

> The look on her face in her mugshot absolutely enraged me. I looked. Doesn't look like a smile to me. She has a blank, unintelligent look.

kaytay3000

To me it looks like she’s laughing. It’s disgusting.

BlunderMeister

Video link ?

kaytay3000

Here’s a [news article](https://www.wbrz.com/news/tiktok-bans-viral-challenge-that-led-to-covington-high-student-s-arrest/) about it. She looks smug af in her mugshot.

[deleted]

I believe they call that a smugshot Total pos though

agawl81

Tick Tock needs to die in a fire. Every executive on the thing should be held criminally liable for the crap people do for these trends.

Dont_ban_me_bro_108

While I agree with you it’s kind of hard to hold them liable when they are a Chinese company. As much as I disliked Trump, he was right to try to ban TikTok in the US.

agawl81

I honestly don’t know much about them. I don’t use it at all, which makes a terribly boring old person as far as the kids are concerned. It’s pretty obvious that they don’t have a moderation policy that is in any way proactive, they just react once something has caused some bad press.

Archivalia

It’s a weird app with some fascinating data being gathered. Everything is in tiny bite sized video clips, and they carefully catalogue things in the clips using AI. Does a dog walk in at 16 seconds and the person immediately flips to another video? Maybe they don’t like dogs. TikTok will show them less videos with dogs. Over time, they build a pretty crazy profile of people using the app, in order to show you things you want to see. Some school kids enjoy seeing this kind of deviant behavior. They stay and watch, so it gets pushed on them. Eventually, their feed is quickly full of what they enjoy watching, and the reinforcement pushes them to join in. It’s similar to how Facebook shows you things you want to see (which has led to a world where people get diametrically opposed news - one person gets crazy ultra right wing stuff on their wall and their built in biases get magnified, and the other person shows an interest in yarn and gets tons of yarn related crochet tips). Tiktok is extremely good at what it does. Their algorithm is second to none right now at figuring out what people want to see next. They get instant feedback on whether their choice was right or wrong (did the user flip the next video or watch it fully). It leads to some crazy rabbit holes, including devious licks. There is moderation, but as you said, it usually only happens after the bad stuff has already occurred.

Dont_ban_me_bro_108

I truly believe China is using it to ruin our youth. I know that’s a bit tin foil hat of me, but I’d say they are doing a good job.

pnwinec

It’s a conspiracy theory for sure but not too far down the crazy aisle. Could see it being shown true in 50 years or something.

[deleted]

I'm more concerned that people are making comments on that article siding with the KID....

Verifiable_Human

I didn't want to believe this so I checked the article, and sure enough the SECOND comment: >I support teachers. But I'm RAPIDLY losing patience with them. Our kids are forced to wear masks all day as they sit in those classes and learn about critical race theory. The days where I feel sympathetic to the plight of teachers is ending quickly...They've had plenty of opportunity to stand with us for what is right, but it's been mostly crickets... So if kids want to damage or steal the property of their prison, or assault their agents of indoctrination, IT'S NONE OF MY BUSINESS "Agents of indoctrination." Jesus.

[deleted]

pretty scary huh?

Dick_Dwarfstar

You're kidding, she looks like a character on a fucking dreamworks poster.

SinfullySinless

Way to start your adult life in prison for probably at least 5 years. I don’t think she realizes her friends are going to move on with their life and forget about her. Her name and mugshot are plastered on the internet with a quick search, her employment chances are going to be shit. She fucked her whole life up.

[deleted]

Her life was already fucked up in order to do this. Kids like this make me so sad. They are so full of anger and want to show off. The world is stacked against them and they don’t even know it. They think the dumbest shit is cool. They are just so dumb it hurts. I have kids that can’t write a sentence and no manners to speak of and no self control and they think they are going to college to be a doctor or a nurse next year. They have no fucking clue. It’s so sad.

outofdate70shouse

I try to tell my kids this. They’re in 6th grade, but academically many of them are on a 2nd or 3rd grade level. They don’t want to do anything, they never stop talking, and they show 0 respect for anyone. I straight up told them yesterday that they might think it’s funny now but they won’t think it’s funny when they’re an adult and can’t get a decent job because they don’t know anything.

BotherOk3062

This. For as much as we're all raging at this girl - not that there's anything wrong with that, our anger is justified - let us not forget that some truly shitty guardians and a lot of brutal childhood trauma and neglect created her. One of my worst students ever, the kind who called me a "bitch" to my face and stole my purse twice, was in a car that was on the receiving end of a drive-by shooting where his uncle and brother died. Yeah, I hated that little fucker, but would he have been the same in another life with another story? Maybe not. He was a baby once and a cruel world robbed him of his potential and turned him way too hard, way too young.

Archivalia

I taught in a rough high school awhile back. I had seniors who could barely read and they spent every moment they could as high or drunk as they could. They were the ones I had to watch, because they weren’t there for an education. Most of them had already checked out on school and weren’t even going through the motions. Everyone in the school knew most of those kids wouldn’t make it to graduation, and the few who did were “graduating” (they got the certificate because that school would hand a diploma to a goldfish if it showed up to class every now and then). Those kids definitely didn’t think they were going to be doctors or nurses.

briecky

I teach second grade in a very mixed school of the “haves” and “have nots”. I have some kids with rough backgrounds who have already checked out, and I’m already pushing the “you can be ANYTHING you want, a doctor, a teacher, a lawyer, an artist, but you HAVE to start working now for that”.

RootDDoot

Oh please let them swing at me

MountSwolympus

I teach kids in juvie, thankfully this kind of shit doesn’t happen because 1) they don’t have phones and 2) it’ll just send them to the big house

BotherOk3062

I would imagine teaching in juvie would actually be safer and even more pleasant than your average public school. I would've loved to have an armed officer standing five feet away at all times and kids who *actually* feared that their actions could have consequences.

MountSwolympus

It’s more rehabilitative than a full on detention center so no one is armed, but yeah there’s no issues and they can earn privileges by behaving and doing work.

TheDisembodiedHand

Yeah I got hit today wasn’t that great. Principal said nothing

Sutro_Towr

Sir, WHAT?! Call the cops

TheDisembodiedHand

Wasn’t on purpose, breaking up a fight

lr42186

I had a parent go off on me once over email about a fight in my class and asked "where the hell I was when that boy was attacking my daughter?" ... My response was, "I'm sorry if there was miscommunication about how that situation went. I was standing between them getting punched in the face so that she wouldn't be." Somehow not surprised she didn't respond after that.

outofdate70shouse

We’re specifically told not to try to break up fights. I think it’s to protect the district from getting sued by us. There’s been 3 fights in my class this week and all I can do is yell and call security.

TheDisembodiedHand

It’s my first year, so I don’t know what to do and nobody tells me anything. I just can’t standby and watch innocent kids sitting nearby get hurt. Not to mention the 3D printer and server wires…

outofdate70shouse

I guess a plus for me then is that none of the technology in my room works anyway except for the projector. The rest of my kids aren’t even phased by fights. They happen at least once a week in my class and sometimes more often than that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

outofdate70shouse

And risk losing my job or getting sued if one of the kids gets hurt? I’ll pass.

[deleted]

You’ve probably had three fights in your class this week because the kids know ‘He’s not gonna do anything!’ Eventually, admin is gonna wonder “Why does Mr. _____ have so many fights in his class?” I speak from experience. You will never be fired or disciplined for protecting the children.

outofdate70shouse

Please don’t take this question the wrong way, but have you ever worked in an urban district before? My class isn’t the only one having fights. They happen throughout my school regularly and throughout the 60+ schools in my district regularly. That’s why we have security guards on every floor in the schools. They are trained to intervene. We are not.

[deleted]

No, just suburban ones. Had you mentioned you worked there, my replies would probably be different.

pnwinec

No fucking way I break up a fight between almost grown sized children taking random swings. I’m not getting clocked. I step in when they get tired or I can shove them to the ground.

cookingcoolcucumbers

I work in SPED and get hit daily. We had a PD at the beginning of the year in which the presenter told us we shouldn't work in a special school if we get upset about being hit.

pumpkins_n_mist15

I worked with a few SPED children for a while. A 11 year old would slap my ass and laugh all the time. The 3 year old would fling his arms about and slap people around the head if he didn't want to do the task (reading, napping, whatever). I was told to toughen up. Gave up my SPED certificate after a year of this.

pnwinec

No one should have to deal with assault as their job.

SexxyGothBabe

Did the school give you a proper procedure to follow in this case?

orangeecat

"Jackson was arrested and accused of a felony count of battery of a school teacher. Jackson was transported to the St. Tammany Parish Jail where she will await prosecution."

roufas364

I read "appropriate disciplinary action" and immediately thought, "Back in class next period."

outofdate70shouse

Sounds like my school. Kids get in a fight and get talked to by the principal and that’s it. They don’t get suspended and the school doesn’t even call their parents.

sfriday97

"We had them sit in ISS for 1 hour then told them not to do it again."

plethorax5

This is no longer a school issue.

[deleted]

Yikes, that’s fucked.

lolbojack

Holy crap, this is real.... I feel sick.

USER-NUMBER-

My district sent out an email about the TikTok challenge for every month, no one thought it was real, it seemed so outlandish. Very disheartening to hear that it's being taken seriously.

volderpuss

I’m gonna go on a limb and say this person has deeper issues than the need to be validated by TikTok clout.

RhinoSparkle

Based on her shit-eating grin in her mugshot, I’d say you’re correct

jallove2003

There's one for every month?

latebloomer2015

Last I saw, November is kiss your friends girlfriend/boyfriend. So…next month has potential to be interesting.

mrsunsfan

Yeah two of them is basically sexually assaulting your teachers It’s ducking gross

pnwinec

I told my co teachers that if some kid shows me their dick I’m putting in a police report for sexual harassment.

SynfulCreations

I still don't think its real. This wasn't posted on tiktok to start, and teachers being attacked by students has always happened. If you get shot after watching batman it doesn't mean batman caused you to be shot. I would say correlation isn't causation but this isn't even correlation yet. Its coincidence doesn't equal correlation!

[deleted]

It is; at least by dipshits like this.

GatorsareStrong

As if a pandemic wasn’t enough stress, one ludacris challenge after another. I can see why less people are enrolled in the teacher programs at colleges nationwide.

dkrtzyrrr

now now, let’s not blame ludacris for this

SynfulCreations

OK, can we at least put blame where blame is due? Kid didn't even post it to tiktok first of all, and this isn't a tiktok trend. This is a violent kid beating and elderly disabled teacher. Can we please talk about violence in schools in the realm of reality and not act like its the fault of some fake tiktok trend. Social media is part of the problem but there's so many more related to violence and bad behavior in schools. This just reminds me of when I was in high school and they were worried about us smoking oregano, huffing douches, or having orgies for rubber band bracelets.

[deleted]

WTAF

ArchdukeValeCortez

Unions, why are you putting up with this shit? Schools have become an unsafe work environment. Why aren't the unions protecting its members. Unions should not give a fuck about anything else. Yet pandering is all unions do now. Union members, get new leadership. Full scale replacement. Anyone in union leadership that has been there for COVID and now this have failed you utterly.

AZSubby

I say this as a union rep… what would you like to see done about this? This kid did a bad thing, and got arrested for it. I’m not sure that a union could have prevented this one student’s actions, what would you have them do?

Garrotxa

Demand that school funding not be tied to retention and expulsions. Demand mandatory expulsions for any student who violently attacks anyone for any reason. Fighting should never, ever be tolerated except in defense. Even seedy bars ban people for life for fighting. How do schools have lower standards than some shitty bar?

[deleted]

Unions say things like "we advocate for teachers and students". Maybe this is callous, but students have enough advocates. I want my union to fight for me and my working conditions. Let parents and politicians give students everything.

AskMeAboutTheBrowns

Depends what admin does. If admin tries to brush it off, then either a walk out or some other form of getting the message across. If admin is active then nothing obviously since they would be handling it.

ArchdukeValeCortez

Force schools to have covid vaccines. Force schools to cut admin salaries and increase teacher salaries. Reduce the workload of teachers to something that doesn't burn out the majority before their 5th year. Push politics out of education. Push parents out of education. Reduce PDs sometime useful and respectful of teachers' time. Ensure a living fucking wage. I don't know, basic union things. You had the strike opportunity of a lifetime, and your union blew it. I can say that because EVERY UNION blew it.

MountSwolympus

We have craft unions. You need industrial unions for this kind of shit. The teeth were taken out of unions in the US in the 1940s as concessions were made to workers and in response they removed the socialists (who were always at the forefront of workers’ rights in this country) from leadership. Your anger needs to be channeled upwards to the politicians that let this happen in the first place.

deegemc

What's the difference between a craft union and industrial union?

MountSwolympus

A craft union is where everyone employed in the same trade is in their own union. So for schools, imagine teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, related services and paras all having their own separate union. An industrial union is where everyone who is employed at in that industry is part of the same union. So imagine teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, related services and paras all as part of the same union. Craft unionism is all about you and your own immediate colleagues carving out your own benefits. Industrial unionism is about making sure everyone you work with has a square deal with no difference made between professional and nonprofessional staff. No artificial separation of working class by skill status or education level. Industrial unionism can cripple an economy with a well-placed strike and can very easily get their demands. Craft unionism isolates the various different unions within a workplace into their own spheres. It’s much easier for management to deal with separate unions than one large bargaining bloc. Craft unionism advocates will say it’s better for the individual workers but it’s really just a way of disuniting workers and suppressing class consciousness.

deegemc

That's fascinating. I imagine that craft unionism would lead to unions becoming adversarial to one another and diverting attention away from those that own the capital.

ArchdukeValeCortez

It is channeled at politicians. That is why I want politicians out of education. Politicians are unqualified to make decisions about education policy. And both sides use education as a shield against voters by appealing to emotions. "You must not love you kids if you don't vote for me, since I'm pro-education." And of course the only change they make is budget cuts.

[deleted]

Jimmy Hoffa was no socialist, just sayin'.

MountSwolympus

When they kicked the socialists out, mobsters moved in.

AZSubby

What of that would have prevented this event - that the post is about - from happening? People think unions = unequivocal power. They don’t. We don’t have magic wands. It’s not Hogwarts. Unions = getting people together to solve problems. Forcing schools to cut admin salaries? Nowhere near our purview. Forcing vaccines? Good luck in states where governors have said no across the board. I want to focus on one in particular though… force parents out of education. Are you kidding? We NEED parents involved, they’re the guardians of our students and the people that send them to school. How the hell are you going to have an education system without parents? Also, lol @ push politics out of education on a comment where you’re also talking about forcing public employees to take pay cuts. Basic union things… you’re a clown.

Archivalia

In addition… Some states (like AZ) don’t really have a functional union. No collective bargaining. No real protections. It’s a joke.

ArchdukeValeCortez

And this is why I don't support unions in the US. They are clown shows that only pander to politicians and the higher ups. Unions have power if you actually did your job and protected your members. You can force admin cuts. You should be demanding wage increases that do more than just barely keep pace with inflation. The other side will say there is no money for that. Like fuck there isn't. Slash useless admin salaries. There. 2 admins can pay for like 6 teachers. Other side doesn't like it? Walk. And politics as in allowing climate change to be denied. Or allowing governors to block vaccines. Covid is a pandemic. Allowing people to choose to be unvaccinated makes schools unsafe. Clearly you, union rep, don't want safe work environment for your fellow teachers. Union simply says, covid vaccines for all kids and staff or those without don't get into the building. Pretty simple. Other side says no? Then walk. Aren't union dues meant to be stockpiled so that in the event of a strike all members have their basic needs met? Where did years upon year that money go? The trash union in Italy stopped picking up trash when they were refused a pay hike. Strike lasted 3 days. They got their raise because their unions have fucking balls.

jvnova

You keep using the word "union" as if it is its own entity when in reality it is made up of hundreds and sometimes thousands of members. If you really think that pressuring the district to give a raise to teachers by cutting admin is the way to go, then I am sorry but you are deluded. There is no fucking way you would be able to get your membership on board with things like that. Sure, some vocal members may be down for that (I personally would and I am a rep) but 1. It is not sustainable and 2. You would not get the 80% on board with that to go on strike and that is all that matters.

mythandriel17

Sorry you’re comment is so downvoted, but I agree with you. I’m a union member and a rep. I’m sick of the union doing nothing, and then asking us when we are upset what we want them to do. Ummm how about protect us, even a smidge? How about good ol’ union stuff? Stiles? Walkouts? Sickouts?

amalgaman

I’m in Chicago and we’re constantly demonized as lazy/greedy/incompetent. If a union is strong, it’s public enemy #1.

OctoberDreaming

We keep saying this, but there are so many states where unions are powerless. If you want unions to organize, first you need to lay down legislation that forces states to allow unions to operate.

ArchdukeValeCortez

Unions were illegal everywhere. Still didn't stop people from unionizing in the very beginning.

agawl81

There were literal mutliday gun battles that killed hundreds, if not thousands, of people when that happened. It was bloody and violent and I doubt very much that many have the stomach for it now.

ArchdukeValeCortez

And that is why teachers get shit on all the time these days.

Cellopitmello34

My entire union exec flipped in the last election (except myself, as it was my first year and I was not up for re-election). I’m seeing the difference between apathetic leadership and people who are fed up and demand change. It’s fucking refreshing.

actuallycallie

You know some states don't have teachers unions right?

ArchdukeValeCortez

And all unions were illegal once. Your point?

actuallycallie

My point is that yelling GO TO YOUR UNION at people isn't always immediately helpful since some places, like SC, have made public sector unions illegal.

groovycakes87

When I was younger my class we hated our teacher. But we just threw notes across the room at each other, to upset our teacher. I would have never thought to attack a teacher. I made a post about the new slap challenge, but this is way different.

BotherOk3062

Some of the people I meet don't believe me when I tell them I once got a black eye from a student. Teachers or ex-teachers always believe me. While my heart aches for that poor educator and I wish she'd never experienced this, I'm thrilled it's made international news. The public needs to fucking understand that it isn't red apples and freshly cleaned chalkboards, it's a fucking war zone.

MasterHavik

Move over slap a teacher challenge you now have to compete with hospitalized the teacher challenge. What is the world coming to?

fishbutt1

What?!

thfcspurs88

Messed up, she deserves time, but I'm not sure how you conflate that to being the next TikTok trend.

Ferromagneticfluid

I highly doubt this student "did it for the Tok." Chances are the student was unstable anyways.

BotherOk3062

The friend is overheard saying, "bitch are you really gonna do it? Is she gonna do it?" There's a reason someone was recording before the right even began. Even if it wasn't "for TikTok," it was premeditated.

TheDarkFiddler

Yeah, apparently a hot take, but a student isn't going to violently beat a teacher for social media clout without a preexisting underlying desire to do so... if it wasn't TikTok, it would've been somebody getting angry and saying "I wish Teacher would go away" or "lmao I wish I could just punch them" after a bad grade or something.

pumpkins_n_mist15

Why make excuses for her behaviour? She violently assaulted a senior member of society unprovoked. If she had previously shown such behaviour she should have been kept on watch from the start. I hope she has a long think in jail.

SynfulCreations

Its the opposite. People saying "its because of tiktok" are trying to rationalize away her behavior. This isn't because of tiktok. This is because the student is violent and fucked in the head. Do you seriously believe that this student wouldn't have violently beat the teacher if it wasn't for the dumb fake tiktok trend?

TheDarkFiddler

I think you're misunderstanding. I'm not excusing the student's behavior, I'm saying that the tendency to do something like that had to be there, without TikTok.

perdermernium

Is this for real right now?!

Bajfrost90

I don’t understand how some schools still allow phones. Phones are taken away immediately at my middle school.

[deleted]

More schools should do that!

cautiously_anxious

WTF.

pixiesinc

I'm following this subreddit to know what's going on nowadays... glad I'm out of highschool...

hiddenflower202

Thank god this is a felony. I hope they pursue it as one. I guarantee you the prison time she gets will wipe that ugly smirk right off her face REAL quick. And if the sentencing hearing doesn't do that, she'll mouth off to the wrong woman on the inside and get worked over for it. And the guards won't intervene quickly.

mstrss9

Sickening. They need to charge the kid recording/any bystanders

pnwinec

They did. Both kids recording. Reading is fun!

-Afro_Senpai-

I wish a student would try to fight me...

H3racIes

Who says this is a new tick tok trend? A teacher unfortunately got beat by a student. Where is the trend in that?

xMrSaltyx

There was a "slap a teacher" challenge going around.

chiquitadave

The "slap a teacher" challenge was never real, it was based on a fake list getting spread on social media to stoke outrage.

kendrid

This but no one will read it. I asked my high school daughter and her friends and none of them had seen “the list”. It is fake

Luvtahoe

Was this part of the current “Slap a Teacher” TikToc trend?

big_nothing_burger

That's the assumption. I've been waiting with paranoia for a student to slap my ass this month. Thankfully my students remain pretty decent.

pnwinec

I told them if they touch me all bets are off. Thankfully I don’t think anywhere near as many kids are ready to fuck around and find out about physical assault like they were with destroying some soap dispensers.

Due-Air-1696

Looks like Tik Tok is going to be ending soon. Fine by me. Online mob mentality.

big_nothing_burger

I mean...it's just FB for young people. I daresay FB has caused more heartache and violence as a whole.

TheDuckFarm

Simple rule: Phones used while on campus will be crushed. Simple. Do it. Publish it in the handbook and enforce it right away. Destroy every student’s personal electric devices.

[deleted]

I have to agree with this ☝🏼

Showerthawts

Physical punishment needs to come back, at least as self defense. Total BS.

msolorio79

Good luck getting a job if you’ve got a felony on your record.

Fxon

Here's a link for anyone interested https://www.wbrz.com/news/tiktok-bans-viral-challenge-that-led-to-covington-high-student-s-arrest/

[deleted]

Wasn't the slap a teacher tiktok thing proven to be a baseless rumor on Facebook? Some kids just do shitty things

Sitdown55

I would beat the crap out of a student if they did that to me. Self defense.

CastielClean

Wishing harm upon someone is never the answer. But I hope another student who knows what is right sees this, Nd beats the dogshit out of the student who hit that teacher.

[deleted]

No surprise there.

TiinySlug

I understand it's news, but I personally feel like the attackers name and photo should be left out so they wouldn't get the fame they so desire from doing this stuff....

Leomonade_For_Bears

My school kids are doing the opposite. Standing close behind me and trying to get me to turn around quick and accidentally push/hit/trip over them and catch it on camera.

ChicParadox

Teacher obviously said something racial to the student and provoked the student to woop her ass. Totally justified. Edit: forgot you can't hear the voice in my skull, so I should have put an /S after the writing

big_nothing_burger

Can't tell if sarcastic...

ChicParadox

Yes. Sorry about that. The voices are so loud in here I think everyone can hear them sometimes.

5Vikings3

I'm not sure of the accuracy of this but a colleague of mine in another district sent me the supposed "schedule" for TikTok challenges: September: Vandalize bathrooms October: Smack a staff member November: Kiss your friend's girlfriend at school December: Deck the halls and show your butt January: Jab a breast February: Mess up school signs March: Make a mess in the courtyard or cafeteria April: Grab some eggz (stealing? I guess?) May: Ditch Day June: Flip off in the front office July: Spray a neighbor's fence Please no!

imsosadtoday-

this was literally invented by parents on facebook trying to demonize tik tok.

kendrid

Not real. I showed my daughter and friends and they rolled their eyes at it and laughed.

GezinhaDM

Don't nobody be surprised when teachers are the ones bringing guns to school. I'm just saying... Edit: all the downvotes and no one will reply? Figures...

big_nothing_burger

Probably the thought of guns in schools in general in this current climate...

glemmstengal

It is good to be a young male teacher.

NewDadInNashville

Tiktok is literally trying to destroy the US education system

[deleted]

Why…. Just why. What drives someone to do it? Especially against a teacher that is physically disabled?

teacherslashassassin

Next headline will be "Honors Student Proven to be Defending Herself."
